Continuity

November 9th, 2018

ESPN offers case to return in 2019.

The Bucs have the second-best offense in the NFL, just a dog’s whisker below the Rams’.

It is for this reason Jenna Laine of ESPN believes even if the Bucs finish with a(nother) losing record, it may make sense for Bucs Bit-O-Honey-snacking coach Dirk Koetter to be brought back for 2019.

If the Bucs part ways with Koetter, they’d be disrupting what they’ve been building the past four years on offense. Keeping Koetter might not sit well with the fans if this winds up being another losing season, but he is their fourth head coach since Jon Gruden was fired after the 2008 season. Being in a state of constant change has held this organization back, and it might just be easier to bring in a new defensive coordinator.

There is some logic to this. Look, Joe is not anti-Koetter but history suggests Koetter is doomed if the Bucs don’t at least have a .500 record. Team Glazer has only kept one coach who had consecutive losing seasons, and that guy won a Super Bowl for them.

To the best of Joe’s knowledge, Koetter doesn’t have that sort of street cred.

If Koetter finishes with a losing record, certain questions must be answered if Team Glazer plans on bringing him back. The first is, can Koetter fix America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston? There is no question that Koetter was hired to develop Jameis. By benching him two weeks ago, Koetter effectively announced he failed with Jameis.

The next question is, who will be his defensive coordinator? The defense simply needs to be nuked and rebuilt from scratch with only two or three holdovers from this season. What defensive coordinator (and position coaches) is going to come in with Koetter’s job status dangling by a thread with the task of rebuilding an entire defense in one season? Yeah, sure, it can only get better when you hit rock bottom.

Another question is, who will be the running back? Right now the team simply cannot trust the front office to draft a running back. That’s failed three times in five years. So the team will either have to trade for one (or two?) or sign a couple in free agency.

Finally, who are the clubhouse lawyers poisoning the locker room? In the players’ season-exit interviews, Koetter should simply ask, “Do you want to play for the Bucs in 2019?” If the answers are anything but an unconditional “yes,” then they should be shipped out for whatever the team can get for them.

There are a helluva lot of questions that require salient, direct answers from Koetter in order for him to survive another losing season. If the Bucs have a losing season.

  1. cw_buc_crazy Says:

ironic though, how you can have the best offence (not merit of JW),and in the same time have one of the worst team on NFL.
JL, DK not HC just OC, that may be the solution…

  2. miken Says:

He’d have to go 8-8 to even be considered to stick around. I say time to move on but we will see.

  3. Buccernutter Says:

100% agree with keeping koetter and Jenna Laine. Best offense by far we’ve ever had. We need continuity there and I think Jameis rebounds.

A legit DC hire could vault us into immediate contention.

Wish more fans agreed with retaining Dirk.

  4. Hawk Says:

The other side of the ‘continuity’ sword, is that the Bucs (under Koetter) have developed the worst defense in the league… EVER.
Maybe, without a ‘buddy’ to whom he might feel he owes a favor, he will be more objective in hiring a new DC.

  5. Lord Cornelius Says:

    Winston/
    Mike Evans
    Chris Godwin
    Adam Humphries
    Justin Watson
    OJ Howard
    Cameron Brate
    Donavon Smith
    Ali Marpet

Pretty sure when we fire Koetter these guys don’t have to go with him. That’s the entire young nucleus of skill players our new HC can work with. That’s the only success of Licht after 5 years of draft picks and undrafted pickups.

IMO we are under-achieving on offense if anything. We should be top 5 in scoring if we are moving the ball this much. Yet all those teams average like an extra TD per game than us; and have been in games where they don’t need to score as much as we’ve had to due to lopsided scoreboards. a lot of our stats absolutely are garbage imo

It’s not like firing Koetter = the offense will suck lol. We will still be loaded and should be more efficient with better scheme / run game.

  6. Ateonetree Says:

Licht should approach the defensive coordinator hire as a head coaching search. Get a proven or up and coming defensive guru and promise him the head coaching job if Koetter fails the following season as some added job security and pay him like mike smith was paid. Only way that would work

  7. miken Says:

He has to keep moken to have any chance to stay too

  8. Rod Munch Says:

Bucs has the #1 offense under Winston.

    Just saying.

  9. Season Is Over Says:

This team has continually embarrassed its own fan base and the chickens are coming home to roost.

  10. Kansas95Buc Says:

bring him back….really? what good is it being a top offense if as a TEAM we cant win games?!?!

  11. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

Koetter sucks at most actual coaching decisions. Cut him, keep Monken as OC, and bring in a defensive-minded head coach

  12. JimmyJack Says:

Sorry Jenna Laine but only a total a$$hole would entertain the idea of bringing this guy back.

  13. Getaclue Says:

Could easily bring in Rex Ryan and retain Monken

  14. JimmyJack Says:

It is the best offense we have had but it still is not all that good.

As proven we can only score vs prevent defenses. And good forbid we ever get into a game that requires some rushing production…. We may as well not even bother showing up.

    Overrated offense.

  15. Rod Munch Says:

Fun fact: Bucs score more points per game when Jameis starts.

  16. LakeLand Says:

    In terms of Total Yards

The Bucs had the 5th best offense
    10th best defense in 2015

    And they fired Lovie Smith

When has stats been more important than wins in Tampa?

  17. JimmyJack Says:

And only in Tampa would we defend a coach because of success in one phase of the game……while the other three phases(4if counting ST) are the worst in football and gotten worse each year.

But I guess only in Tampa would we hire a guy to coach one player in the first place…….And I guess only in Tampa we keep a failure of a HC for the sake of continunity.

  18. ufour20 Says:

“By benching him two weeks ago, Koetter effectively announced he failed with Jameis.”

Maybe, just maybe, Winston is overrated and not that good?!

  19. JimmyJack Says:

If Winston ain’t that good then it’s just another endictment and misevaluation on the coaching staff.

Top ten pick with 4-5 potential franchise QBs avialable. If Dirk wants to move on from Winston he’s a year too late.

  20. D-Rome Says:

Fun fact: Bucs score more points per game when Jameis starts.

Fun fact: Opponents score more points per game when Jay-Miss starts, thanks to his turnovers and INTs.

As for Jenna’s take, I can agree with that point of view. If the Bucs breaks all sorts of offensive records it will be hard to justify firing Dirk Koetter. It won’t be nearly as hard to justify firing Jason Licht if the Bucs end up with a losing record.

  21. Belligerentbuc Says:

We need to bring Todd Bowles or John Harbaugh..they both have great defenses but crappy Franchis QB’s.

Give this offense a medicine defense and they will dominate!

  22. Kansas95Buc Says:

    @D-Rome
ok so if Winston is a trash qb like you say, who do you suggest we replace him with? and please don’t say a 35 y/o journyman backup qb who cant hold on to a starting job

  23. JimmyJack Says:

This team has gotten waxed in 5 out of 8 games this year.

On no planet should the HC of this team be getting any praise. I will just chalk this up to it being Tampa and us fans hardly even know what solid NFL Football is supposed to look like.

  24. JimmyJack Says:

    Kansas
….If your QB is trash why should it matter who you replace him with? Aren’t you supposed to at least try to do better then trash.

I’m not calling Winston trash. The logic behind your question is just confusing me.

  25. BigMacAttack Says:

Licht is much bigger problem than Koetter. Probably 80% of their issues are a direct result of Licht’s bad decisions. I would no way ship off players that can’t say 100% Bucs in 2019’. Their answers should be conditional upon changes in the Organizational structure. Players don’t win to lose, so fix it. There are some really bad coaches n this team who can’t produce results. Cut them loose. There are scouts on this team who are not doing a good job. Pro personnel with free agents is not doing a good job. Jason Licht has proven to be a horrible talent evaluator. Licht could have made hard plays for some great D line free agents or trade for others. We’ve seen how they helped other teams. Licht made no trades before deadline. McCoy is still here and his value has diminished. Licht has had tons of cap money to work with yet keeps signing mediocre players like Curry and Allen. I want to blame Koetter but his problems are some of his coaches and definitely players. Koetter is a symptom of the problem, which is 100% Jason Licht. Get to the root and you’ll start to solve it.

  26. BigMacAttack Says:

Haven’t they sent away enough good players with nothing in return? It’s one thing to trade for another player or good pick, but the Bucs’ GM’s always get squat.

  27. miken Says:

    bruce please

  28. Jaywill Says:

D Rome opponents score more points when Fitz start.

  29. Kansas95Buc Says:

    @JimmyJack
what im saying is that people like to complain about Winston and this guy is literally the best QB we’ve had as a franchise. Sure he has his hang ups but to constantly complain about a guy who is clearly in a terrible offensive scheme is backwards. People can be so quick to run a player out of town but never adjust the scheme to fit the players strengths, that’s why so many players leave here and have a nice career

  30. Bucsfanman Says:

Those stats are a “house of cards”. We’re putting up numbers trying to play catch-up more than it’s a well-oiled offense. And pardon me for being pessimistic but as we are watching these games, is there anything in anyone’s mind that tells them that this is a “top 5” offense? Don’t look at the stats. Watch the game. It’s all or nothing, we stutter and stop more than we should with the talent we have. We literally make almost everything look difficult! It’s mind-boggling!
What does that even mean when you’re 3-5? And they are an ugly 3-5. Oh, “but we have a top 5 offense!” Well whoopity-do! Last time I checked Koetter is the HEAD coach, the “top dog” which means he runs the show, all of it! If the TEAM does not go 9-7 EVERYONE HAS to be fired. There is really nothing else to say.

  31. El Buco Realisto Says:

The huge problem is that it would not be fair for the new GM to come in and not be able to bring in his “guys”!!!!!!

Like I said two days ago, logic would suggest that Head Coach Koetter out of the GM, QB is the only one that deserves to stay!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. JimmyJack Says:

Kansas…..fair enough. I tend to be on your side of the fence and still support Winston but I can’t really blame anybody that is pointing g a finger at the QB.

This team was been downright awful for the last two seasons and when a NFL team is losing fans are always going to put some blame on the QB……..I don’t know what to tell ya. That’s just the way the league works. It’s always been that way and always will.

If you are an NFL QB with a losing record theirs gonna be u rest within the fanbase.

This isn’t a Tampa/Winston thing. It’s an NFL thing……….At the Endo of the day fans are tired of losing. They care about the team and are looking for somebody to blame. I got my scapegoat. Whose yours?

  33. Bucsfanman Says:

    ^In my opinion, of course!

  34. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Sorry 5.5 wins per year does not equal a reason to be asked back for anything

  35. JimmyJack Says:

No Bucsfanman…….According to some Dirk only needs to be judged on our passing game. Nothing else matters if we have a league leading passing game. Dirk’s only responsibility to the team is to create a passing attack……..even if that passing attack is only effective vs prevent defenses it’s ok……..so long as our team name is on top of a few stat sheet.

I don’t know whose responsible for the other phases but it doesn’t effeect Dirk…… According to the fans

  36. Db Says:

The offense is mostly stagnant in the first half and gets a majority of its yards after the game is over in the second half. Theres alot if talent on this team but they cant seem to jell and play well as a team. With exception of the first two games, they dont look like they “want” to play. I dont think it matters who the coach is, they players need to accept responsibilty for bad play.

  37. BigMacAttack Says:

I’d keep Monken, Bajakian and Buckner (deserves more time). Skyler Fulton is the receivers coach. Hard to say that he’s not doing a good job. He stays. Paul Spicer works with Buckner. Spicer was a beast when he played. If Buck and Spicer can’t make this D line work, you have a serious player issue. Curry, Allen, GMC, Spence, possibly Vea, all suck. That’s a Jason Licht problem.

  38. Lord Cornelius Says:

The huge problem is that it would not be fair for the new GM to come in and not be able to bring in his “guys”!!!!!!”

He doesn’t need his “guys” on offense. Not like Sean McVay wanted to ship Todd Gurley out for “his RB” when he took over for the Rams. I’m pretty sure if it’s an offensive minded coach he would love to come in and work with these chess pieces.

The next GM/Coach will hopefully be rebuilding the defense. I hope it’s by cutting McCoy and moving to a 3-4.

    IMO Fire the entire staff

Hire a research firm to decide on a new operational direction. Whether that be hiring a president of operations to run the big picture; or finding the right coach/GM combo; whatever it is – the Glazers should not be the ones who make that decision. Hire the best people you can to make it for you.

Get whatever compensation you can for Gerald McCoy, Lavonte David, Desean Jackson, Vinny Curry, and Cameron Brate.

Emphasize a complete front 7 rebuild on the defense next year in the draft (possibly moving to a 3-4 depending on the talent pool and coaching staff). Draft literally nothing but defensive front 7 and O-line. Use FA to sign the best proven CBs and safeties you can as a stop gap while we build this the RIGHT way; which is from the lines out and not the other way around.

Do the same thing again the following draft. O-line / missing D pieces.

2018 draft could have been a difference maker instead of the sh1t hole it’s been. Still have hope for Vea since DTs take a few years; but I said at the time I’m going to judge that pick against Marcus Davenport & Daron Payne more than Derwin James. So far we look like we got the worst of those 3 D-lineman.

Hell just imagine Payne or Davenport + Guice + Donte Jackson + Carlton Davis. Could have saved this staff.

  39. JimmyJack Says:

The saddest thing about all of it is reading articles like the one Joe wrote about lack of effort by the team. I agree with Joe that is one step away from quitting. I also think the team has already quit out their……..the lack of effort BS goes back to Dirk’s 1st season here from my perspective.

For the life of me I can’t figure what people are watching and how they can concock such an unfounded opion like in this article giving reasons to keep this coach.

  40. BigMacAttack Says:

The problem with this offense, which is small in comparison to the defense, is the Offensive line is mediocre and can’t run block and your only decent back is Barber. Oh and he’s hurt. Jones is complete bust.

  41. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Just keep Monken. Why is this so difficult.

  42. Jmarkbuc Says:

The Head Coach of your football team cannot be a wuss…

Halftime at Chicago :” I have nothing to say to them (the Team)

After Carolina: “I don’t know how to fix it”

    “We don’t really game plan”

“if I’m here next year” (2017) (does somebody need a hug?)

Jameis will be here when I’m long gone 2018

    GROW A SET DUDE.

  43. ben Says:

Licht should go and take most of his failed draft pics with him, including Winston!

  44. JimmyJack Says:

Ive watched this team quit on this guy for three straight seasons. At first I figured they just came out flat…….year two figured they just laid an egg for a few games. By now any sane fan should see and know that these players don’t care about this coach or this team or even us stupid fans who waste our time on them. They have been quitting for three years.

The whole premise of this article makes me sick to my stomach.

  45. JimmyJack Says:

Jmark…..WTF……”I don’t know how to fix it” who said that? You can’t tell me our f***in leader said that……..please tell me you left out a word or two from that quote.

  46. Kansas95Buc Says:

    @JimmyJack
one let me thank you for being one of the critical thinkers of the fan base. what you said is correct but we gotta look at the man in charge of getting our players ready for each and every game. We have a HC who refuses to touch the weak link of the team and refuses to make any halftime adjustments and doesn’t have any answers as to how to get the stench of losing off the team

  47. JimmyJack Says:

“We don’t really game plan” WTF……….this can’t be real.

  48. Alanbucsfan Says:

You can keep Monken, but not Koetter.
You can’t bring in a new head coach and keep the old head coach, especially one who allows such a soft mentality as this one does.
Defense needs some upgrades in talent- the main problem with defense is coaches and scheme.

  49. JimmyJack Says:

Kansas I totally argee with you. I think coaching/leadership is the biggest problem.

I know our fanbase seems like it fights with each other a lot(and we do) but I think a lot of it is just boiled over frustration. Things would be a lot easier if one team was at least respectful…,…….as I said on here earlier. I told somebody today that I was a Buccaneers fan and he laughed right in my face …………No fan deserves that. No fan especially deserves it for two decades.

  50. BigMacAttack Says:

How though does this suck defense give up 28-35 points in the first half of games and then play like a real team in the second half? Then at the end when they have to make stops to win, they revert back to their first half garbage mentality. That is both a coaching and player problem. This team just sucks in its current state. I don’t know how else to describe it.

  51. JimmyJack Says:

Alan that makes me wonder if Monken could wind up sticking at OC after this season.

I don’t think he has a big circle within the NFL coaching ranks(maybe I’m wrong).

Any decent HC is going to want some power to come here and will want his own coaching staff…….then again Monken may be well reguarded and part of being a good coach is surrounding yourself with talent and making it work as a solid team.

  52. LakeLand Says:

It seems like the Yucs quit in week 4 against Chicago
After Jameis Winston came back from his suspension

And they have been laying eggs ever since

  53. Kansas95Buc Says:

    @JimmyJack
being a Bucs fan is tough. Like I wanna quit being a fan but my loyalty wont allow me lol. If the team had actually quit, we gotta let go of the coaching staff and all players that quit. What happen to personal pride? Is the team ok with being on the worst defense of all time? Who on the team really want to win?

  54. JimmyJack Says:

Make keeping Monken a barometer for the next coaching hire. If they don’t consider Monken(on their own volition) in any capacity tahen realize they don’t have an eye for talent.

  55. JimmyJack Says:

Lakeland…….Pittsburg humiliated the Bucs the Monday night prior to Chicago. Your probably right and they quit after getting abused at home in primetime.

It’s the same exact situation as Dirk’s first season. Dallas humiliated us then we quit the next week in N.O.(it was f***ing ugly) and our season was basically over.

  56. Kansas95Buc Says:

the Glazers might as well ask all 53 players who wants to play for the Bucs and release those who don’t, that should be a start lol

  57. BigMacAttack Says:

One reason I said a few weeks ago to fire Koetter now, is that you’d have the rest of the season to evaluate Monken on his own merits without Koetter. This can still happen but the Glazers are known for being slow to make much needed decisions. It always costs them in the coaching searches. Leftover Bucs.

  58. Aceofaerospace Says:

The majority of my anti Koetter rhetoric has revolved around his failure to fire is BFF, at least twice. At the end of last season and the bye week. And, we still don’t even know if that was his call. Maybe he only did it because he was forced to. That being said, if this team hasn’t/doesn’t completely quit on him, I could accept him being given another year. I just don’t trust a man to hire a great, not “ok” defensive coordinator when he professes to be hands off on the defense. Do you even know what you’re looking for?

  59. JimmyJack Says:

Kansas I’m a die-hard and don’t think I’d ever give up on my team but,I’ll tell ya, this team trys me.

I have always went to at least a game a year and quit wasting my time doing that last year.
This year I have quit watching the games once their over in the first quarter. I’ll do work or come here and cry while the game is just background noice.

I do t care about miracle comebacks………Sure they are fun but that is the lowest possible % way to win a football team. You’re not a good team if the only way you can win is a miracle comeback.

  60. Larry woods Says:

Honesty, I wouldn’t be surprised if they brought him back. I think firing smith will be his first excuse

  61. JimmyJack Says:

Just move this team to London and get them out of my face already. They are getting so bad it’s making me hate my own city.

  62. Seminole Bill Says:

I thought the head coach was responsible for the entire team, not just the offense.

  63. LakeLand Says:

    JimmyJack

I think Pittsburgh just manhandled the Bucs
They did the same to Atlanta and Carolina

But the Bucs just outright QUIT against the Bears

And they have been quitting ever since

  64. doolnutts Says:

What I LOVE about all the speculation is that a lot of people look back at Dungy at being just a complete and total success. Fact is Koetter has a chance to match Dungy’s win count through his first 3 years which was only 24-24. I assume ownership of the bucs noticed that the defense was playing lights out and thus kept with Dungy to improve on that. Our offense isn’t just Top 10 we are top 3 and anyone saying Koetter doesn’t get credit for that is just void of their opinion making publically.

To me this team even today is at least an 11-5 team if we have a middle of the pack defense. The entire staff short of Buckner should be fired at the conclusion of the season. I do not want to see a total rebuild.

  65. Kansas95Buc Says:

    @Seminole Bill
that part of the reason he should be fired asap. no boxes or anything, just throw all his stuff out in the front lawn

  66. JimmyJack Says:

After Pittsburgh made us look like the b**ches we are the team was demoralized. I think they decided it was just easier to stop trying against the Bears.

I don’t think we have practiced since, at least not at full speed.

  67. JimmyJack Says:

Doolnutts……Dungys defense never started a game and got the piss kicked out of them for the entire first half………….Lakeland……cue the halftime scores.

  68. Kansas95Buc Says:

    @JimmyJack
I actually tried to leave the team…I just felt dirty and cheap lol. God I just want my team to be winners

  69. Kobe Faker Says:

“Where was CONTINUITY when i was here?”

    Lovie Smith

“Koetter was the white man for the job”

    Buc Sheep nation

  70. Not there yet Says:

Shut the hell up I’m tired of the asrsewards logic.

HE SHOULD HAVE CHANGED THE COORDINATOR LAST YEAR. Yes all he did last year was change the d line coach. It’s fault for being dumb enough to continue trying to build his team around cornerstone losers like Geraldine and Lavonte. Nope should have changed Mike Smith out last year he didn’t so your burnt toast. Just as happy to get rid of him as I was Lovie. Here we go again with the continuity excuse, thought we used that one last year

  71. Season Is Over Says:

Schiano knows more about running the football than Dirk “We were done before Halloween” Koetter. Koetter honestly thought he was only going to ride Winston’s arm to glory? How did that work out? He has completely abandoned the rest of the team and sucked coaching up Winston. How does anyone know if the receivers success is because of Koetter and not the assistants? He gets no benefit of the doubt because the team is a laughing stock. Koetter has proven to be a decent OC and a terrible head coach. He inspires me to barely watch the team I have watched since 1993. Will he take a demotion to stay on for one more year as OC to see if Mr. Magoo is a total failure? Too much pride for that I”m sure. After four years do you think those two can actually figure out how to win a first half?

  72. NO FEAR... Says:

KOETTER NEEDS TO STAY WITH THE BUC’S WE JUST NEED A GREAT DEFENSE COACH AND STAFF……AND SPECIAL TEAM COACH !!!

  73. JimmyJack Says:

Kansas hahaha……You tryed to jump ship cause you thought that open water looked so beautiful didn’t you?……Didn’t realize how Scarry it would get out there, right?

All good man, we would jump in there and save you if we had to. I do appreciate you being man enough to swim back to the lifesaver without asking for help. We really didn’t wanna get wet……but we would of.

  74. adam from ny Says:

    #JennaAsHeadCoach2019 🙂

  75. JimmyJack Says:

Halloween will never be the same for a Buccaneers fan. For the rest of my life that holiday will haunt me thanks to Dirk.

BTW I can’t even say “GOO BUCS” anymore. It makes me feel bad.

  76. Kansas95Buc Says:

    @JimmyJack
lmao I did then realized it wasn’t what I bargained for

  77. GhostofSchiano Says:

By benching him two weeks ago, Koetter effectively announced he failed with Jameis.

The next question is, who will be his defensive coordinator? The defense simply needs to be nuked and rebuilt from scratch with only two or three holdovers from this season.

Koetter should simply ask, “Do you want to play for the Bucs in 2019?” If the answers are anything but an unconditional “yes,” then they should be shipped out for whatever the team can get for them.
    —————————————————————————————-
    AMEN Joe, AMEN!!!!

  78. Bucko40 Says:

Only reason Bucs have the #2 offense is because Fitzpatrick has started 5 of the 7 games this season.

  79. GhostofSchiano Says:

Koetter should simply ask, “Do you want to play for the Bucs in 2019?”

“or are you just here for the sweet easy Glazer loot?”

  80. JimmyJack Says:

Dirk should simply ask, “Do you want to play for the Bucs in 2019?”

Well hotdammit Earl!!!!!!!!!! Was that all we had to do? Just ask all Dem players if they wanna actually play? We got it figured now y’all!! SB 2019!!!!!

  81. Bucsfanman Says:

JimmyJack- People just get enamored with these useless statistics. We were 5-11 last year and to hear some fans talk about the top 5 passing attack, you would’ve thought we won a Super Bowl or something. Maybe that means something in FANTASY football, it means absolutely d!ck in the NFL. Win games, simple as that.
It’s sad that we’re halfway through the season and the hope has withered to a wafer thin mint!

  82. LakeLand Says:

The Bucs has the #2 offense in yards
Because they have to throw the ball, when down by 4 scores in the 2nd quarter

  83. LakeLand Says:

    The Bucs are ranked 15th
    In OFFENSE EFFICIENCY RATINGS
They are ranked 10th in passing
    25th in Rushing
    At Football Outsiders

Bucsfanman………..Yep, some of these fans see a 400 yard 4 TD game with two highlight reel plays and their nuts swell.

Seemingly they lose all conscious thought and don’t even realize we could have prevented 3 scores the other way if we could just make a fundamental tackle.

They didn’t see that the biggest plays in the game were actually for just one little yard and we didn’t just get stuffed but manhandled.

After all why should we worry about things like missed blocks when we made it onto Sports Center?

The worst thing that fans overlook is that we have had the same set of problems for the past three years.

  85. Dapostman Says:

    Winning culture vs Losing culture:

1992: Jimmy Johnson cuts RB Curvin Richards after two 4th quarter fumbles

2015: Mike McCarthy cuts TE Brandon Bostic after he fumbles the onside kick in NFC Championship game. Bostic was supposed to block for Jordy Nelson to recover.

2018: Dirk Koetter elevates backup S Isiah Johnson to starter after Johnson holds 50 yards away from the DJax punt return for a TD on a Monday Night vs Pittsburgh.

All 3 of these guys were fringe players not core guys. Fringe players are replaceable except in Dirk Koetters world where if you screw up you get promoted.

  86. JimmyJack Says:

Lakeland the problem with our #1 offense is that most of it has all been generated vs prevent defenses.

I don’t know how we can ever expect to win when we have no ability to matchup vs base defenses.

  87. JimmyJack Says:

    Dapostman……….

Dirk Koetter 2017: He plays TJ Ward on his defense who missed assignments and gets caught loafing constantly and Dirk decides to keep him on the field game after game.

  88. Rod Munch Says:

    “D-Rome Says:

Fun fact: Opponents score more points per game when Jay-Miss starts, thanks to his turnovers and INTs.”

    You are fake news.

Opponents average when Fitz starts: 36.2
Opponents average when Jameis starts: 31.3

Like all the anti-Winston idiots – you literally don’t know what you’re talking about.

  89. Bob in Valrico Says:

The NFL has us 9 th in points and with a 28.6 average and 229 points.
    Individual stats show :
    Fitz :108 points 18 TD’s
    Cost…zo 53 points 10 FG’s 23 XPoints
    Jameis 36 points 6 TD’s
    Barber 36 points 6 td’s
    Rojo 6 points 1 TD
Individual stats also taken from NFL stats with a total of 239 points,if correct
then we would have 29.87 points a game

  90. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Continuity is only worth what the mean results are. If you choose to retain Koetter for continuity’s sake, that means retaining the guaranteed 3-5 start to the season regardless of how red hot the beginning of the season is.

I like Dirk the guy, I really do. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more loyal, affable, respectful and entertaining guy to have as a friend or co-worker. But he is a lousy head coach.

And in this league, success is the only thing that matters. And success in the NFL is defined by winning Superbowls. Dirk Koetter, will never, ever, ever, ever, ever… I repeat EVER! Win the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a SB. I knew that after last season when the roster got better yet the team played much, much worse.

It’s time to move on. And when we lose to the dilapidated, injury riddled Redskins like I fully expect us to on Sunday, were I the G’s, I’d fire him right then and there.

  91. BringBucsBack Says:

    Koetter= Possibly. Slight chance.
Licht= No way, please. Just NO!

Sadly Licht is more likely to return because, the owners only know how do it wrong. He is already signed through next year, right?

  92. BringBucsBack Says:

    *how to do it wrong.

  93. jjbucfan Says:

    Dapostman- Don’t forget this one…

Dirk Koetter makes Desaun Jackson Captain, 1 week after he asks for a trade!!

  94. BucEmUp Says:

No bring in Bruce Arians, Jason Licht has worked with him, Buckner has worked with him and he is a winning successful NFL coach who can give Jameis the defense and support to be a winning qb

  95. SOEbuc Says:

Dirk Koetter is an OC. Not a HC.

Trade Brate, LVD, DJax. Drop GMC and save $13 mill next year. DO NOT OVERPAY AN AVERAGE DONOVAN SMITH! May have to say goodbye to Kwon if we can’t agree after a season ending contract.

Open vault: HC (if the price is high enough, no one will say no), Trade/FA top end RB (after you’ve taken care of the RG and RT spots which are by far the biggest priority on the offense).

Draft: Round 1 options- CB Andreaz Williams (LSU), LB Devin White (LSU), OT Greg Little (Ole Miss) S Deionte Thompson (Alabama), DT Quennen Williams (Alabama), CB Deandre Baker (UGA)

  96. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Bucemup

Jason Licht should be fired too after this most recent stinker of a draft.

  97. bucanation Says:

this is the same talk as last year you keep dirt as your sex slave

  98. Tc Says:

Koetter has proven he can get top 10 production out of the offense. I would get a first rate defensive coordinator, a new kicker and get rid of Licht.
