Working The Phones

October 27th, 2018

“Jason, since you are texting all the GMs trying to swing a trade, why don’t you see if someone will take that coat of yours, too.”

Could the Bucs add a new player, preferably a starter, in the coming days? Don’t be shocked if they do.

That is sort of the word from Dirk Koetter. While Koetter is not predicting Jason Licht will swing a deal by Tuesday’s trade deadline, he spoke last night about how Licht has consulted him about targets Licht may go after.

Of course, Koetter discussed this earlier in the week when Joe asked him about his involvement in trades. Koetter discussed this subject again last night on SiriusXM NFL Radio with co-hosts Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt.

The annual NFL trade deadline is Tuesday.

You can hear Koetter talking about a potential trade below.

TRADE GMC FOR A THIRD RD PICK’

    or a productive CB

  2. Kobe Faker Says:

“We know GMC is soft but it seems he isnt stupid…

isnt it funny GMC has this “injury” right before trade deadline…

no team is going to be interested in trading for an injured player

  3. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    ^ LOL

LIke I said in the past, you can set your watch for accuracy to GMC being injured every season or him missing games or playing time.

It always seems like he’ll be out or Limping off the field by game 7.

Then when he comes back………he’ll do what he has always done every Sunday.

    – Be invisible on the field
    – Be non impactful
    – Show emotions of the filed on injuries (gotta get that close-up camera NFL!!)
    – Then get garbage sacks to pad his stats after the game is outta reach

GMC IS CANCER………………..get rid of him

  4. stpetebucsfan Says:

This is not exactly news and for me it really doesn’t matter what Jason or DK say.

EVERY team in the league is scouting rosters before the trade deadline. It’s required due diligence and I do not see a “perfect” team anywhere in the league. ALL teams can always use help.
Or as Koetter likes to say…you can never have too many good players.

To me this talk…and I understand it we gotta have something for the fans…it about like saying what you’d do if you hit Lotto.

At least I think the odds are better for NFL GM’s than lotto but it’s still a crap shoot. You have to be able to find some trade bait on your own team…or sacrifice valuable draft picks…and then find a player who fills YOUR needs and won’t destroy team chemistry like a Swaggy. It’s not like those kind of guys are just falling off of NFL trees waiting to be harvested.

OF COURSE Jason is working the phones hard as are 31 other GM’s… not doing this due diligence would be NFL malpractice!

  5. ben Says:

trade Winston and let Fits play out rest of year …Bucs have the worst qb in their own division so move on.

  6. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ ben

As much as I dislike Winston………that would be extremely stupid on this Franchise’s part.

The Bucs have to find out what they have in him and listen

If he players average to sucky, then the Bucs can offer him alot less or “prove it” contract and use him a bridge QB until they get they can find suitable replacement.

    I love Fitz………….but he’s not the future

  7. SchwiftyBuc Says:

I wouldn’t be against trading 93 but no one is going to trade for a 30 year old DT that’s currently injured.

  8. LakeLand Says:

They can trade DJax to the Texans to replace Will Fuller

DeShaun to DeSean, what a combination

The Bucs are wasting his talents

Let the man go somewhere, where he can play in January

The Bucs will be holding their annual Madden tournament in January

  9. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ Lakeland

    LOL

  10. Guzzie Says:

Our GM sucks, what studs has he drafted other than Evans and OJ the 5 years he’s been here, go ahead I’ll wait….Marpet is above average, Kwon has fizzled out and borderline injury prone, Donovan is average, how QBS after the Bucs got Winston are already better than Winston, definitely Watson, Goff, Wentz, and Mahomes, future looks bright for Darnold and Baker, that’s 6QBs, time to

  11. Noles Says:

Lakeland – DJax & DeShaun would be lethal opposite of D Hop…. I would like Landon collins to be a BUC.. he is a hard hitting SS that would look good w Justin Evans.. if Shady McCoy is available he would be a nice pick up as lomg as they feel he won’t have any legal troubles from that incident w his Ex.

  12. Kobe Faker Says:

    “Hey Lake,

If we had a competent GM, We can have a Houston vs Philly bidding war for DJAX

Houston will give a 2nd rounder for DJAX

We need draft picks for our new GM next year

  13. TheDailyAutopsy Says:

    GMC for Patrick Peterson

  14. Owlykat Says:

You can’t compare Jameis to other NFL QBs with competent OLs and much better OL Coaches as long as we keep disfunctional Warhop. Even Young looked so bad behind another sorry Buc OL that we canned him and he went on to Star in Multiple Superbowls for the Forty Niners!
If we could get a decent draft choice for McCoy I would say deal him. Our OL is better without him. He is a liability in our efforts to stop the run.

  15. Mike in MO Says:

I agree with ben. The Bucs know what they have in Winston after four years. Another 10 games will not make a difference. It’s time to cut bait and move on. Trade him now and get something for him.

  16. Not there yet Says:

Man you guys kinda sound dumb, the way you talk about Winston what makes you think he’s worth anything in a trade. Same people apparently thinking that going into next year with a old journeyman quarterback and a late round drafted rookie qb is the best way to go to have a better shot at playoffs next year

It’s just not fair to talk about Winston when you crazy people discard all common sense with pathetic Trade Winston talk with no credible options for avoiding another horrible season with no qb

  17. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Jesus every poster on this thread is an idiot troll. Seriously idiot fans in Tampa. Trade a good QB so we can have the likes of Glennon and McCown again and trade a quality D tackle because he “only produces in garbage time.” You know who drove the Bucs into field goal range and has had multiple late 4th quarter drives the last two years to put the Bucs ahead only to have the defense or kickers piss it away??? That would be Winston. He threw the ball over 50 times last week because the line sucks and there is no running game. He made plays both with his feet and his arm and was the primary reason the Bucs eaked out a win of the Browns. Yet all you fools ignore all of that and are laser focused on two mistakes. Any QB asked throw that often and with that shtty line and running game is going to have a few miscues. All you “dump Winston” guys are morons. MORONS!

  18. K2 Says:

TheBucsAnthem Says.. to trade GMC for a 3rd round pick. Other great ideas he might want to consider…we can probably get a 4th for Mike Evan and 5th for L. David.

  19. LakeLand Says:

    Kobe

The Houston Texans has 8 draft picks in the 2019 draft
    Including two 2nd round picks

They are looking at trading for DeSean Jackson as their first option
    Second option Dez Bryant

  20. LakeLand Says:

They want a speedy deep threat similar to Will Fuller
    DeSean Jackson fits the bill

  21. cmurda Says:

Thank goodness for TDTB. Finally some voice of reason. I still say JW has to be able to hit the open receivers on the deep balls but let’s not act like he is garbage. I still have hope that JW will figure out his deep throw problems. He did put this team on his back in 2 drives against a pretty decent CLE defense. He put the kicker in position for virtually a chip shot FG and he blew it. Later on definitely redeemed himself but don’t forget a missed XP and that 40 yarder. Those are free points that can’t be missed.

    @Lakeland.

I think D Jax to Hou makes sense. The Texans are in need. The question is what do you take? I would be very happy with a late 2nd but D Jax has more value to us right now unless the price is right.

  22. Defense Rules Says:

How about INSTEAD of dumping Jameis or GMC the Bucs focus on filling some REAL needs via trades right now.

Start with the right side of the OLine. Dotson is serviceable for the time being (he keeps circling the injury list if anyone’s noticed), but Benenoch simply isn’t getting the job done. So if I were Jason Licht, I’d be looking HARD for a RG replacement. If a RT happened to fall into our laps, hey that’s fine too.

Next I’d be turning over every rock trying to find a starting corner; one with future potential (not another 35 yrs old please Jason). I’d also have my head on a swivel looking for a starting safety AND a starting MLB (not sure how far along Beckwith REALLY is, and right now our LB corps is NOT very deep).

Who do we have to trade? I love DJax but we’re VERY deep in receivers & at his age/salary he’s the most likely to trade. I love Fitz too, but he’s another possibility to trade (Bucs do have 3 QBs in case anyone forgot). Beyond those two, Bucs realistically don’t have much to bargain with … except $$$$$.

  23. Mike Johnson Says:

Like your thinking here Defense Rules. But..we won’t. Why? Because we don’t actively pursue players that will truly help us during the season. Not like the Pats, Saints or a few other teams. They actually get better via trades during the regular season. Not us, we are afraid to give up draft picks. Thats why I’ve always said, this franchise is not serious about creating a Winning culture for years to come. We just are not aggressive enough in player aquisitions. We are only quick..to bring back players who could not initially make our rosters . You know, like..Joe Dirt.

  24. Dre Says:

Lol touchdown tampabay says jameis is a good qb… if jameis was getting wins and not turning the ball over so much per game then yeah he would be a good qb but that’s not the case … if we win tomorrow it will be because of the defense … expect jameis to turn the ball over twice tomorrow… close game 24-20 bengals is my pick and we lose because of joes favorite “America’s qb jameis winston

  25. Dre Says:

Defense rules our real need is to find someone who can play DT … someone who is available when the game is close … not a GMC who gets hurt every year and misses games … when was the last time Gerald played a full season? Someone in this thread said it correct he gets hurt in key moments and he gets his numbers in garbage time … waste of 16 million a year … watch tomorrow how better our defensive line plays without McCoy and the next time Gerald plays I want you Gerald lovers to watch McCoy every play he is in the game without being a homer and just watch him , you will see what is “ McCoy haters “ as you call us are talking about unless your too naive to think otherwise of your own beliefs

  26. Defense Rules Says:

Dre … It’s fashionable on JBF to be a ‘McCoy hater’ (your choice of words, not mine), BUT at least get your facts straight instead of just parroting what other lazy posters spew as FACT. GMC is hardly impoverished, but he’s not making $16 mil a year … try $12,250 plus a prorated $500,000 signing bonus. Next year BTW he’s due to make $13 mil … but no dead money (making his CAP hit … $13 mil). And BTW, you can find all those little FACTS on spotrac.com .

And if you waltz over to pro-football-reference.com you can plug in Gerald McCoy’s name and voila … GMC’s entire history. And what you’ll see is that GMC doesn’t miss nearly as many games as some would have you believe. He got injured early in 2011 and thus missed 10 games then, but in the other 7 complete seasons he’s AVERAGED 14.7 games per season. For a DT who plays as many snaps as GMC does, that’s actually VERY good.

And ya know, if you REALLY want to dig into FACTS (it’s tedious but it does give you a better appreciation for what each player is actually contributing) then you can stay on that same site, select ‘Tampa” and ‘2017’ then scroll down to ‘Defense & Fumbles’. And IF you do, you MIGHT gain a new appreciation for what GMC contributed just last year. Key on the DTs & DEs and you’ll notice that GMC led the DLINE in virtually every category: Sacks (6.0); Tackles (47); ‘QB Hits (24); TFLs (13) … even in Games Started (15). And if that’s not enough detail for ya, wander on over to footballoutsiders.com/stats/snapcounts and you’ll notice that GMC’s snap counts are well up there year after year (mid-70’s percent, some years higher).

Not saying I’d keep him next year BTW (too big a CAP hit IMO for a 31-year-old DT, especially since the 2019 DLine draft is supposed to be very robust). BUT … just saying that folks shouldn’t denigrate someone & spew falsehoods about them just because they don’t like him. We get enough of that in today’s politics.

  27. stpetebucsfan Says:

    DailyAutopsy

    “GMC for Patrick Peterson”

I like your idea and I’m NOT a GMC hater. I still think he can play but I was NEVER expecting the next Warren Sapp…just an NFL starter who can…say…make the pro bowl multiple times.

But Patrick Peterson is 27-28 years old…several years younger than GMC at a position that can last until their mid 30’s. IE in his prime. Is GMC even if you respect him in his prime?

Patrick Peterson is an exceptional physical freak over six feet two hundred pounds. A long CB with size, incredible athleticism..can return kicks if necessary who btw runs a 4.3 40.

So my only question Autopsy and others who have suggested this trade is why would the Cards trade a perhaps generational player at his position for a guy who is simply good at his position?

Perhaps some of you are willing to toss in draft picks along with GMC…or another player like DJAX. Tell me how much? I’ll listen because I believe Peterson is an impact player who can change games and fills a need that would improve our defense instantly.

  28. Destinjohnny Says:

If I bought the team I would fire Jason so fast it would make your head spin

  29. donuts Says:

Winston in his last 10 road games is 0-10 (straight up).

Amazing. Its not all on him but he has had chances to win some of these road games and did not get it done.

This team needs to rally around Winston and show it in all phases. I think this franchise has reached a pinnacle with him as their long term plan at QB. Its truly a show it moment these next 5 games for the Bucs.

Ouch Whitehead tagged for $26K fine on Mayfield helmet hit.

  30. Reach87 Says:

We have some truly moronic posters on this site. Go Bucs!

  31. SOEbuc Says:

    @Guzzie

Wow you’re dumb. JL is a great college scout. They can’t all be A+ picks every round.

    Good players he’s drafted:
    -CAM BRATE (UDFA)
    -ADAM HUMPHRIES (UDFA)
    -CHRIS GODWIN
    -KENDELL BECKWITH
    -JUSTIN EVANS
-(R) CARLTON DAVIS III (continues to be getting better and better every week and he’s looking good).
-(R) JORDAN WHITEHEAD (has shown he has the abilities to possibly finally fix safety situation.

  32. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Yeah Defense this is part of the reason I say we have such a dumb fan base. These are Bucs fans who have created this myth about GMC and injuries. FFS most NFL players suffer injuries and miss time. A starting defensive tackle averaging 14.7 games per year equates to very durable. The morons/haters though don’t seem to have any clue though.

  33. Jeagan1999 Says:

Trade for Janoris Jenkins and Patrick Peterson to shore up the secondary! Sign RB Ryan Nall off the Bears practice squad. And call Jon Gruden and see what he would take for a Tackle or Guard to give us some depth on the OL!

  34. PriMech54 Says:

Am I crazy to suggest a trade package to the Houston Texans involving Desean Jackson, a first rounder and either a conditional pick or another (role) player for Jadeveon Clowney? I mean, sh!@, he’s not Khalil Mack. Him being oft-injured will drive down the asking price from the range of Mack’s as well. They could bite…

  35. Dexfields Says:

I once suggested better drafting but that would make way to much sense so we’re better off making trades and signing free agents

  36. Dre Says:

Dude your stats are way off and no McCoy has never finished a full season and your numbers on his contract are false

  37. Buc4evr Says:

We need CB’s, a Safety, OG, and an MLB for draft picks. Any talk about trading away Winston is nuts.

  38. Rod Munch Says:

Bucs should have traded for Bell weeks ago as it’s impossible to fix the defense, there are way too many holes. As I’ve said forever, the best defense is an offense that scores 40.

  39. PriMech54 Says:

    @Dre
C’mon bro my man came stocked with a full write up with numbers and cited sources. You can’t just blanket it “nu-uh, bro” with out coming prepared with your own argument. Wtf is that? It’s this kind of garbage that makes Buc fans less than credible.

  40. Dave Says:

Guard listening to all of you armchair quarterbacks who think Licht sucks and Winston sucks and GMC sucks….

Ignorant football fans. For some reason this town, or just this website, is filled with them. It’s effing pathetic

  41. VegasBuc Says:

If I bought the Bucs, the first thing I would do is make a list of the trolls and butt hurt Bucs fans who never have anything good to say and ban em’ from all things Bucs. Seriously, you fart smellin fans suck.

  42. 1sparkybuc Says:

    They’re not fans. They’re trolls.
