“Jason Has Talked To Me About A Couple Guys”

October 25th, 2018

“Dirk, you ready to go all-in?”

The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday and your beloved Buccaneers could use an upgrade.

What team couldn’t?

Trades have been increasing in recent years and one could say Bucs general manager Jason Licht helped get the ball rolling. He made plenty of deals early in career at the deadline, including dumping 2012 first-round pick Mark Barron for fourth- and sixth-round picks in the 2015 NFL Draft.

There were others and, of course, Licht’s best deal likely came in March, when he plucked Jason Pierre-Paul from the Giants for a third-round pick.

Today at One Buc Palace, Joe asked Dirk Koetter if he personally is in on process of considering potential trades as the deadline approaches.

Koetter said he’s largely hands-off on the process though acknowledged “Jason has talked to me about a couple guys.”

Make a deal, Jason. Make a deal!

“I can assure you that Jason’s looking into all avenues and, you know, it’s his job to make decisions that are best for the Bucs. And I trust him to make those decisions because he’s good at that,” Koetter said.

Joe is confident Licht won’t made any deals until after Sunday’s game. The result, including potential Bucs injuries and those around the league, will have a huge impact on any decision.

Procrastination will get you nowhere. Some other team will get the player we need!

  4. Bucsn1 Says:

Procrastination will get you nowhere! Beat the other teams to the deal!!

  5. OneBucPerson Says:

I’ll be an okay-ish RG with a smile on my face, I say okay because even that level of play would be a massive improvement over Evan Smith and Turnstile Benenoch.

  6. El_Buc941 Says:

Please let it he Leveon Bell or Patrick Peterson he’s looking into acquiring.

  7. Lunchbox Says:

Patrick Peterson or Karl Joseph please

  8. Lunchbox Says:

    Or a new RG

  9. Wausa Says:

    I’m with Lunchbox….Peterson or Joseph.

  10. buddy Says:

#KLUELESSKOETTER better be begging Jason to get him a job with the Titans after the new year when they are both fired here. Cause Jason going to have to ask JRob for a job with them also.

  11. Dewey Selmon Says:

If we win Sunday I might think a move is possible. If we lose, DJax might have played his last game in pewter.

  12. Easy Says:

Gabe Jackson would be an ideal addition to replace Benenoch.

  13. Jason Says:

Please, Jason, some decent offensive lineman. Those aren’t sexy trades, but the Bucs are going nowhere fast without an OL that can keep Jameis upright.

  14. TheDailyCoroner Says:

    Gerald McCoy for Patrick Peterson.

  15. Kobe Faker Says:

    “No Money, No Honey”

    Kobe Faker

  16. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Trade all the future first and second round picks since Licht sucks in those rounds.

  17. WyldKat Says:

Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.

  18. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Trade DJax. Get him outta town and bring up a guy from the practice squad to replace him.

  19. John Says:

    Get shady from buffalo

  20. passthebuc Says:

it is not prudent to trade JW today. Let’s wait until draft day.

  21. Kalind Says:

A second and Hargreaves should get us Peterson. Then throw Gruden a 4th for Joseph and we’re all set

  22. Dexfields Says:

How about drafting better!!!!!!!!Every year we look to sign free agents in March and then make trade during the season. But still yet Jason is a genius because he go out and cover up his bad drafting. What a joke!

  23. Aceofaerospace Says:

Koetter is hands off on the defense, hands off on the kicker, hands off on personnel moves. I’m sorry, you may claim to be hands off but your finger print will be all over it if this team collapses and you will be fired. What exactly are you hands on? If you’re just an offensive coordinator, then we need a head coach.

  24. Dre Says:

Outcome of Sunday’s game will determine if we are buyers or sellers … smart move

  25. Dre Says:

KAlind did you not read that Peterson himself said he’s not leaving Arizona?

  26. Dooshlarue Says:

    Dewey

I agree with you about DJax.
Would love to see Softie go bye bye too.

  27. Dewey Selmon Says:

Yeah Doos, Djax has been the consummate professional not to lose his sheet because the QB can’t get him the ball.

  28. Dewey Selmon Says:

Read somewhere Fitz to the Jags and he receives another big payday next year. lol.

  29. TBTeddy Says:

Djax kinda seems like a luxury now unless you use him on returns again. But I doubt you could trade him for instant help but who knows. We need someone who can come in and make a difference ASAP!

  30. Pryda...sec 147 Says:

    Trade Fitz…

  31. Buc4evr Says:

Peterson or Joseph please. Trade a second round for them, can’t be any worse then what you have done in the last two years. Lol.

  32. BucEmUp Says:

Trade Desean to Cleveland for Duke Johnson

  33. Architek Says:

Trade away GMC please; should’ve signed Snacks. He’s a better more physical presence in the middle

  34. teacherman777 Says:

    Raid the Raiders!

    OG Osewele?

    We need a real RG!!

  35. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Jameis Almighty! Says
“Trade DJax. Get him outta town and bring up a guy from the practice squad to replace him. ”

    /signed!

With the way he played with Fitz, he raised his value.

Some people here need to grasp reality. Jon Gruden is trading defensive players because he is an offensive guy (in more ways than one). He won’t give up his own offensive players unless they are no good, and if we go after any of his players, you can just double the price you think is fair.

That said, he would probably give a first rounder for DJax, because DJax is perfect for his style of offense.

If Kwon had not gotten injured and Beckwith was healthy, I would say to trade Lavante David. He’s quickly approaching his late years. Trade while we can get more before his value plummets.

No one will trade for McCoy right now. He’s injured. So you haters may as well move on.

  36. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Kevin Minter was signed. MLB. Pure run stuffer.

Is bully still getting the start? I hope so. Half the defensive starters are rookies at this point. May as well continue the trend! I suspect the experience these rookies are getting will pay huge dividends later.

  37. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Trading Fitz is a great idea too. Someone out there must need a QB.

  38. Defense Rules Says:

Jameis Almighty … “Trade DJax. Get him outta town and bring up a guy from the practice squad to replace him.” There’s something ironic about ‘Jameis Almighty’ wanting to get DJax “outta town and bring up a guy from the practice squad to replace him.” That would be the same DJax who caught 9-for-9 passes from Fitz in the first 2 games to start the season & was probably the biggest story in BOTH of those wins.

Just for the record Jameis: Fitz was QB for the first 3.5 games. He targeted DJax 19 times in those games … DJax caught 16 of those passes (almost 85% completion rate) for a total of 419 yds. Obviously a LOT of those were deep passes (averages OVER 25 YPC) … Scored 3 TDs to go along with those 16 receptions.

Jameis has been the QB for the last 2.5 games. He targeted DJax 17 times in those games … DJax caught 7 of those passes (barely a 40% completion rate) for 107 yds and 0 TDs. The answer to that differential is apparently obvious to you: Trade DJax; it has to be his fault. Ya, that’s the ticket to a winning season. Let the numbers sink in Jameis and see if MAYBE there might be a different possible answer.

  39. Buc4life24 Says:

Trade Fitz to Jax for picks and trade those picks to get…insert Safety, LB, RG here!

  40. Buc4life24 Says:

I’m also in the trade DJax group…since we can’t connect or use him properly.

  41. CAeric@ Says:

gotta kick the tires on Carr, seems like he’s got one foot out the door in Oakland, both himself and Gruden are iffy on his future there. Get Peterson for sure, he would be the most glaring need to fill right now….

  42. LakeLand Says:

DeSean Jackson is the 4th ranked WR at PFF
    87.7 grade

  43. LakeLand Says:

They benched the guy with the 2nd highest grade among QB at PFF

Now the fanbase want the team to trade the WR with the 4th highest grade

    You gotta love these Bucs

  44. Cobraboy Says:

    MLB, LG, CB

  45. Gobucs Says:

Might as well trade djax because we have an idiot QB that can’t hit the broad side of a barn more than 15 yards away.

What’s the point of having a speed receiver if the QB can’t throw an accurate deep ball?

  46. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Defense rules.. the QB is the most important position on the field. DJax isn’t good enough of a receiver to connect with Jameis. So, get rid of him.

  47. Gobucs Says:

It’s not djax that’s the problem.

But you stupid idiot moron FSU homers will blame djax instead of the QB that’s throwing to him.

    Figures.

  48. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Go Bucs. Jameis isn’t an idiot, u just don’t like him. Go root for another tean

  49. LUVMYBUCS Says:

  50. feelthepewterpower Says:

Shady McCoy has had recent off the field issues…..and I think is dealing with an ankle injury of some sort.

  51. Defense Rules Says:

Jameis Almighty … the QB is the most important position on the field. DJax isn’t good enough of a receiver to connect with Jameis. So, get rid of him.” LMAO. To be honest, I wouldn’t have expected any other response from someone with the handle ‘Jameis Almighty’.

  52. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Trade Fitzpatrick. May get something out of him useful like a linebacker. Fitz is of no use anymore and needs to go too.

  53. joestang Says:

As long as Licht is picking players this team will suck. How about trading Licht and Ron Jones and Vita Vea to the canadian football league.

  54. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Defense rules… defense wins championships. Jameis does too. DJax should be returning kicks, but he’s a concussion away from being done. He can’t run correct routes and that why jameis and him can’t connect. Worse route runner in football. Since you are so smart Trade him. Trade Fitz. package deal. Get em both out of town.

  55. Defense Rules Says:

@LUVMYBUCS … “A few available options.” Nice list. You do realize I’m sure that NONE of those will wear a Bucs uniform this year. Jason Licht’s preference for near-trade-deadline FA deals is to scrape the bottom of the barrel & find a has-been bargain. Does TJ Ward come to mind per chance?

  56. Brad Says:

RG and McCoy from Buffalo. and get rid of the other McCoy if at all possible

  57. BringBucsBack Says:

Thank you D.Rules! Especially your first post was spot-on!

  58. Gobucs Says:

    Lmao

Well Fitz had no problem hitting djax in stride. But Winston can’t and your stupid as s says it’s djax fault?

Jameisalmighty you are a total idiot with blinders on.

Get off his nuts 🥜. Moron. Lmao. What an idiot

  59. Mike Johnson Says:

Ohhh don’t worry. Other teams have already Beat the Bucs to great deals in trades. You see, some teams actually Know they have a shot. They are actually trying to improve their clubs for a run. Us? We wait..wishin, and ah hopin..somebody falls into our lap. Thats been our problem guys. We don’t chase greatness. We don’t want to be great. We want to..just get by. You gotta go get greatness. You gotta scheme it and fight for it. It does not come to you. I use Bellacheat and the Saints as my examples.

  60. TheDailyAutopsy Says:

    LuvMyBucss
Mark Barron! Should have drafted Luke Kuechely.

  61. BigMacAttack Says:

I ain’t saying nothing. Just win baby!

  62. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Gobucs Says
“Might as well trade djax because we have an idiot QB that can’t hit the broad side of a barn more than 15 yards away. ”

Amazing how he connects to EVERYONE ELSE.

  63. Bobby M. Says:

Kind of agree with procrastination comments….Contenders can be patient…Pretenders have to act fast.

  64. B-Rad Says:

Trade Winston, Humphries, & Brate to the Giants for a 1st Round Pick & Jenkins. Start Fitz and you get to see 400 yards with TDs to D-Jax & Evans again with some wins. Draft an accurate down field passing QB… Will Grier?

  65. Dave Says:

    1. All you can just stop saying let’s get Patrick Peterson. He is not being traded.
    2. If they can get a cornerback, do it.
    3. A RB, do it

  66. Maddognavy Says:

    B-Rad

Sounds good to me, go big or go home!

  67. Bucko40 Says:

Bucs can’t afford Petersen and Bell without making a personnel move. I highly doubt Licht makes a move. Most players aren’t going to want to play for a losing franchise.

  68. Jameis Almighty! Says:

@go Bucs… I’ll stop rooting for Jameis when you stop sniffing Fitz and DJax jock straps.

  69. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Just to let you know. Jameis is the franchise. It hurts some of you so dearly. Thats a problem. Not mine tho! Famous Jameis is the best young qb not named Mahomes.

  70. LakeLand Says:

The Bucs will suck as usual
No SANE player want to play for them

  71. T REX Says:

Only Winston knob slobberers are saying get rid of DJAX because their Jesus can’t throw a long ball to save his career. I can’t wait till that turnover machine is gone from Tampa so we can start winning again. I hope that all those fsu fans go back to Tally as well when Winston leaves.

But he’s the best QB we’ve ever had? If that’s the bar I am embarrassed for you.

  72. Firrrreee Licht Says:

How about receivers run correct routes and the Bucs get him a running game so he doesn’t have to throw every down…

  73. Firrrreee Licht Says:

How about receivers run correct routes and the Bucs get him a running game so he doesn’t have to throw every down. Jason Licht picks the players. RB isn’t that hard to find. Even Cleveland had extras. Licht do it right and get Fitz and DJax out. Jameis doesn’t need dJax to throw to. He can make a practice squad player a star. He’s that good.

  74. Firrrreee Licht Says:

I think Jameis is the best QB Tampa will develop and keep as a star.

  75. Destinjohnny Says:

The 19 draft is sooooo deep with d linemen
Please don’t make a trade. We are a 6-10 team don’t mortgage the future

  76. Destinjohnny Says:

Also let’s start getting extra picks to trade up for tua

  77. LakeLand Says:

Tua will be available for the 2020 draft
    He’s a true sophomore

  78. Guzzie Says:

I bet Philly will try to trade for DJax

  79. adam from ny Says:

trade winston for andrew luck now…as per la canfora

  80. Bucsalltheway Says:

Give up something for Landon Collins please!!!

  81. The Buc Realist Says:

Why would team Glazer allow licht to trade the next year’ GM resources???????

  82. Issaic haggins Says:

Do not trade D Jax , he really is a great route runner and has been awesome since he’s been a Buc . Winston throwsthe ball to receivers he just needs to learn thtyou throw the ball to an area far far away and let D Jax go to it !!! On Ball over20 the D Jax Winston must have room to get his feet right , shoulders right and let d jax go get it !!! Winston relies on arm strength and a Med release button the d Jax all’s it more mechanics , longer motion, lil more air and his mechanics fotthat throw suck and always hv . No Coaching ??

  83. Kaptain Morgan Says:

Offer a 1st round pick for Justin Tucker.

  84. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    @adam from ny

No offense man, and you are entitled to your opinion.

I would never in a million years take Andrew Luck over Jameis. — Andrew throws even more interceptions and is older with more experience. I will take my chances with #3. — If he goes down in flames, then he does. But I don’t think he will.

  85. TOM Says:

Although the Bucs could use a lot of help at different positions I feel the biggest need right now is RG.
