Survey Says …

Channeling Steve Harvey

A couple of weeks ago, Gerald McCoy appeared on a very special episode of the Family Feud.

And McCoy served up one heck of an answer. Asked about the size of a loincloth most wives said their husband’s would wear if men wore loincloths, McCoy answered, “3X.”

It was easily the most compelling moment of the episode and it drew a lot of laughs.

Joe thought of that today because Dirk Koetter confided in media at One Buc Palace this morning and revealed he surveyed his players before the bye week. Koetter was looking for answers, feedback on what’s working and what’s not in certain areas.

“I’m not going to tell you the areas, but just some areas that I felt like I wanted to see,” Koetter said. “When you’re a college coach and guys aren’t leaving town, you from time-to-time meet with every guy on your team. Well, I didn’t have time with everybody leaving last Tuesday for six days to meet with every guy. I put together just a very short thing that I asked the guys to give me some feedback and they did an awesome job. I really appreciate their honesty because sometimes honesty can be self-defeating – make yourself look bad – but I appreciate their honesty. The communication I think both ways – player-coach, coach-player – was good.”

Joe likes the move by Koetter. It was a wise psychological and practical tactic — whether he uses the information or not.

Man, Joe would love to see how guys like Brent Grimes, Lavonte David and Ryan Fitzpatrick responded.

Just a hunch, but Joe suspects coaches will respond eagerly to the feedback on the defensive side of the ball. And as a result, Joe already expects a more aggressive defense than usual against Matt Ryan and the Falcons.

Below is a clip of McCoy’s appearance on “The Feud.”

That’s nice GMC let’s go on a game show instead of studying your craft during the season. Come to think of it that is how your entire career has been just one big game show and joke right Batman?

  2. Chuckstutz Says:

I think they need to reevaluate their evaluation process. 3 years of it and sos. What a joke. Ain’t buying it. Hit the road smitty.

  3. unbelievable Says:

You know what would have been better?

Not giving them 6 days off after that pathetic, atrocious, insulting performance in Chicago.

You make them come to work, and work there tails off, in an effort to fix that horrendous showing.

  4. Joel Says:

This is great news. Wont mean anything when we get blown out on Sunday.

  5. Reach87 Says:

Believer, you are talking out your a$$. You don’t have a clue about when he appeared, how much he studies, how much anyone else in the NFL studies, or what it means to be a fan. Pitiful. For just one thread, why don’t you try (you know how to try, right?) check yourself. Go study your craft. Go Bucs!

  6. Reach87 Says:

And change your name while you’re at it, cause it’s obvious you don’t believe in anything about the Bucs. Again, Go Bucs!

  7. Darin Says:

It cant get less aggressive. I just dont think after so many years Smitty will change his philoshophy. Calling plays is about unpredictability and deception. If they know whats coming its alot easier to beat. Of course he wil be more aggressive next game, he has to be. Its the games following that one too. That would require a change in philoshophy. I just dont see it. I’ll pray for turnovers cuz this thing is far from over

  8. Buc believer Says:

@Reach I guess that is what you have to do to yourself since you can’t get a woman to do it for you…. without paying for it probably.

  9. BigMacAttack Says:

G killed it. If he could only play that well

  10. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @buc believer

That show was recorded 6 months ago idiot. There were a bunch of other players. Smh, it never shocks me how stupid some people can be.

  11. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @unbelievable,

They can’t do that. It’s against CBA rules. They have to have 6 days off on a bye week. P

  12. Buc1987 Says:

What’s the one thing Gerald McCoy does the best?

Survey says : Jump off sides was the number one answer….

  13. unbelievable Says:

    lol 87

Him and Gholston each have 1 so far this season…

  14. Rod Munch Says:

The GMC haters are very triggered by an image of McCoy smiling, very triggered.

Believer you’re doing great. Most high school freshmen can’t speak up for themselves. You did that with an attack on my love life, another thing you don’t have a clue about. Good for you! Horay! Keep improving and you’ll stop talking out your a$$ and be more than the NFL wannabe you’re acting like. Try this, “yeah I really don’t have a clue about this game show thread, but I get so frustrated with the team and want them to win so bad, I sometimes just spout out BS.” That’s acceptable (and much better than a weak a$$ personal attack on someone who called you out for talking out your a$&). 😊 This is still a Bucs site…Go Bucs!

  16. Buc50 Says:

Can’t believe all the flack GMC gets. The guy is a very good football player and on top of it, he’s a great family man.

  17. Cometowin Says:

So tired of all the criticism piled onto Gerald. We probably won’t be able to keep him in the future after we try to resign Jameis, Ali, Kwon and Donovan Smith. Then you’ll be complaining about his replacement. Yes, he’s fallen a little short of Sapp on the field. Couldn’t be prouder of Gerald off the field. But you all know better than all the players and coaches that have to constantly game plan for him, right??? Later morons!!!

  18. Bucsfan77 Says:

I find it hard that everyone btches about McCoy, Winston, the defense, the offensive line. .ect..ect..ect.. ffs I’ve been a Bucs fan my whole life, they are Luke family, regardless of how they are doing our what kind of person they are you still should love and support them.

GO BUCS, all you fake fans go root for A CFL team.

  19. BigMacAttack Says:

I love and support the heck out of them on Sundays. But that doesn’t mean I can’t talk $#!t about them the rest of the week, especially when they get curb stomped on the field. I think Gerald is good guy that delivers mediocre results. He’s been an underachiever since he got here. We’ve seen this year how Khalil Mack can literally take over a game almost single handed. Mack is elite, a game changer, alone man wrecking crew. McCoy has never done that and he’s a seasoned vet. McCoy still has big value on the trade market. Cash those chips in and draft the next Mack. I’ll give Winston one more shot this weekend before calling for his scalp too. I think those two guys would net some high value picks and players. Maybe thecan do better elsewhere

  20. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @BigMac,

You’re seriously one of my favorite posters. We go way back, and I totally respect your opinion, even when I disagree (which is pretty rare). I get your frustration, but it’s being directed the wrong way. Gerald isn’t the reason we’ve been so bad for so long. And you can’t compare him to a guy like Mack. Mack is a once in a generation player. He may end up being the best defensive player of all time. Is Gerald that? Of course not, but there’s no shame in just being really good. He’s been on some terrible teams with some terrible coaches. He, like any player, is going to be limited as a result. If Warren Sapp was on these same teams, we still wouldn’t be any good. In fact, I would guess he would have been Keyshawned pretty quickly.

McCoy has been a consistently very good player on a bunch of terrible teams. That’s not his fault, and he shouldn’t be blamed for it. Blame ownership for hiring the wrong guys. Blame the GM’s for not drafting well, or bringing in good free agents. Blame the coaching for not scheming to the skills of our players. Blame the other players that only play here for a check. Contrary to what a lot of idiots say, that’s not McCoy. Dude played with a torn bicep on a lost season. That’s heart. Nobody in the world would have blamed him if he packed it in, but he kept fighting. He’s one of the few bright spots on an otherwise terrible era of Bucs football.

  21. Tampaspicer Says:

Some of this anti-McCoy hate needs to be redirected at Kwon. Kwon is playing like garbage this season. Can’t cover anyone, misses way to many tackles, and takes wrong angles/wrong gaps.

  22. ATLBuc Says:

Why direct hate at any of our players? Because they don’t meet our expectations? Our players are who they are. What if they read these posts. Do you think Criticism and hate are good motivational tools. Why not support and encourage our guys. Who would want to play their hearts out for Ann unappreciative fan base

  23. Anonymous Says:

The first out-of-the-gate response comment is so typical of the Gerald haters…. complaining about him being on the show instead of studying, when the show was recorded months and months before training camp even started. MORONIC.
