Koetter Defends Jameis

October 15th, 2018

Head coach talks about his QB.

It was almost as if Bucs coach Dirk Koetter knew it was coming.

Joe has seen his Twitter timeline and read the comments on this here website. Bucs fans, many, are beside themselves after yesterday’s loss. They don’t blame the kicker, though that was a big issue. They don’t blame the defense, even though it was a complete sieve in the first half and painted the Bucs in a corner they couldn’t escape from.

No, they blame America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, even though he threw for nearly 400 yards and completed 73 percent of his passes.

So when Koetter was asked about Jameis in his postgame pressure, he came to his quarterback’s defense.

“Jameis, you know, he does so many good things out there. He does so many good things,” Koetter said. “He has composure, he can make all the good throws, he runs the team, he scrambles, he’s tough, but there are a couple of balls you’d like to have back. And that’s every quarterback in the league. You know, that’s playing quarterback in the NFL. So I think Jameis played well for a good percentage of the game.”

When Koetter was asked about Jameis’ two picks, one was a fluke because it bounced off Chris Godwin’s helmet, Koetter wasn’t going to take the bait.

“I know what he saw,” Koetter said. “I don’t need to talk to him.”

Koetter did scold Jameis a bit for the turnover on his crazy interception in the red zone.

“You can’t turn it over,” Koetter said. “You lose the turnover battle two to zero today, it’s tough to win.”

Yes, you lose the turnover battle and have a potential brutal defense for the ages, it’s hard to win. Yet the Bucs were on the doorstep of doing so thanks to Jameis.

Here comes the mike glennon mob sorry correction fitz mob can we just call them the mob of idiots who don’t know the game of football

  3. NJBucsFan Says:

Hmmm…Koetter also defends Mike Smith…so I’m not sure this is a good comparison to continue the Winston is a franchise QB agenda.

  4. NewTampaChris Says:

The one that bounced off the helmet was thrown into quadruple coverage. 1st and goal at the two, and no points. Then later, the sack in the red zone. You just can’t take those. And very inaccurate on his deep balls, especially versus what we saw in Weeks 1 and 2; THOSE were accurate deep balls. Not saying Fitz should be starting. Just saying the savior is not on this roster. I’m reaffirming my 6-10 preseason prediction.

  5. ERIC Says:

To all the butt hurt Mariota lovers…. he was SACKED 11 TIMES…..11 TIMES that is not a typo….. NO POINTS, NO POINTS! That is not a typo.

  6. Wausa Says:

Jamies had 426 yards combined passing and rushing and had a QB rating of 115.4

QB is the least of our worries

  7. D-Rome Says:

Same old Jay-Miss. The stats are not relevant when he:

    1. Continues to turn the ball over in the red zone.
    2. Still can’t connect on the deep ball.

There are turnovers and then there are costly turnovers. Jay-Miss’s turnovers are, more often than not, costly.

  8. JackBuc Says:

The Godwin INT is a presnap decision. Its a LB on a WR. You expect your guy to win that 1 on 1 matchup. Again it probably doesn’t happen if we don’t get a false start.

  9. richbucsfan Says:

He sounds like a college coach protecting the feelings of his amateur QB. Smh

  10. Buc4evr Says:

The reason we lost was the kicker….lol. It wasn’t Smitty and his stellar defense or Jameis’s boneheaded interceptions. Let’s face it, Koetter simply isn’t a good coach and the majority of our players are backups on other teams. The excuses are getting old.

  11. Andrew Says:

If we turn it over once we lose the turnover battle. Our defense doesn’t force any team into forced errors. All unforced errors and being lucky.

I’ve been a GMC supporter but he is well over the hill. A sudden fall off. He does NOTHING

  12. Andrew Says:

Oh and mike Evans you are supposed to be a leader. Get out of bounds when we have no timeouts!! Burned over 15 seconds

  13. LocalJoker Says:

NewTampaChris I suppose you wanted Marcus Mariota who lost 21-0 to the Raven, went 10-15 for 117 yards and was sacked 11 times. #stfu

  14. Wombat Says:

@Eric, newsflash!!! Mariota and Jameis both suck!! We got the 2.0 version of Vince Young and Matt Leinhart….

  15. DB55 Says:

The ball bounced off the helmet bc Godwin tried to catch the ball with his chest instead of his hands. See Funchess in Carolina who made the exact same play. He simply grabbed the ball off the defenders back with his hands bc you can’t make that play by catching it with your chest. In fact you should never catch the ball with your chest. Ball was thrown too low and Godwin didn’t extend for it. –Joe

  16. Darin Says:

Koetter defends himself too. Going for 2 with 11 and a half minutes left when the other team is scoring tds at will? A qb run from the 21 with 7 seconds left? Not many play calls from tbe 20 he says. Wtf??? Players will make plays and mistakes every game, always have always will. Its a coaches job to not make any mistakes in game, and to make calls to cover up players mistakes. The guy is effing lost. Take smith with ya and get!!!!

  17. NJBucsFan Says:

I’m not sure how Mariota has anything to do with this, but since you brought it up, it goes to show that this is a team sport and stats are individual achievements. Making the playoffs is a team accomplishment that is achieved when the team has a leader. In today’s game just about any QB that plays 16 games has a chance to hit the “coveted” 4,000 yard mark…it’s only 250 yards a game.

Here’s a list of some QBs that have at least one 4,000 yard season. Also note that some played when defenses were allowed to play and passing was not as coming.

    Mark Brunell
    Marc Bulger
    Lynn Dickey
    Andy Dalton
    Blake Bortles
    Steve Beurlein
    Elvis Grbac
    Bill Kenney
    Matt Schuab
    Jon Kitna

The list goes on and on. The thing is there is no progress with Winston. Everyone wants to praise him for working with recently cut and retired players. Here’s the thing. He put himself in the position to have to do that. Why?? Because he lacks the leadership qualities it takes to get the team into the playoffs. He showed this when he was suspended for a game at FSU and still dressed for warm ups. It is all about him and because he’s a QB it is perceived as work ethic and leadership.

The same bad throws, the same inaccuracies and the same turnovers. Game after game, drive after drive.

  18. Blame the Glazers Says:

Everyone wants to point the finger at Jameis, but compare him to Mariotta’s game on Sunday who never even showed up. Titans were scoreless. Or Bottles who scored only one touchdown to Dallas’ 40. Or Derek Carr who didn’t throw a single touchdown. You can’t blame Jameis for our putrid defense!

  19. AlteredEgo Says:

Jameis is a bonehead and inaccurate….a bad combination for a “franchise” QB auditioning for a HUGE CAP commitment from the franchise…his is not much different today than when he took the filed in his first year…the same criticism on and off the field apply today as they did pre draft…better draft a QB in the first round 2019..I am tired of watching this endless video loop of Jameis dropping back

  22. i like gunslingers Says:

jameis is not playing defense, and is it not a coincidence that in the fourth quarter in every big game, when needed the most that the batman breaks a wing, suffers an injury, get’s butt hurt, has to leave the game, for three and a half quarters of any game go back and look joe, he can be seen yucking it up smiling and whatever with his team mates, instead of getting nasty pissed like our new defensive end jpp thank god for him, fire sale get rid of the losers for what you can get out of them, fire smith, if u have too fire koetter, because he won’t do it, elevate monken to head coach interim, david, kwon, mccoy, up for trade or picks, go all defense upcoming draft, and get the best o- line right gaurd tackle in free agency

I 100% agree with this comment.

  25. Tampabaybucfan Says:

An objective football fan would not blame Jameis for the loss…..if you simply don’t like JW…..then you would blame him.

There are multiple reasons for the loss:

    Missed Extra point
    Two Turnovers
    Failure in the red zone
    No pass rush
    No pass coverage
    Poor 3rd down defense
ME not getting out of bounds
Penalty on 3rd down stop resulting in TD for Atl
    Last play failure by Djax

Sure, Jameis was part of it……so, what else is new.

  26. Bucsfanman Says:

We’re not going to win many games if our QB doesn’t play turnover-free and we continue to play scared defense.

Just out of morbid curiosity, what does Marcus Mariota have to do with 11 sacks?! Talk about a mockery of an offensive line! NO QB is going to do well if he’s sacked ELEVEN times! Why is this relevant to THIS conversation anyway?!

Oh, that’s right! Criticize Jameis=Mariota fan! Got it.

  27. Bucsfanman Says:

Doug- Wrong thread there buddy! The GMC sucks article is below. See “Dance Fever”!!!

fitzie is a smart guy – i bet he’s glad he’s sitting on the bench during this fiasco and downward spiral…safest place for him to be is riding the pine

  30. Darin Says:

He does know its coming. He is supposed to go up there and take the blame for Jameis. But he doesnt. So he has to defend him. This staff is beyond lost. I thought they turned the corner after the first 2 weeks. Now it appears they caught teams at the right time. Now we get to see Baker Mayfield throw for over 300 and 3 tds after sucking yesterday. Bears had 0 points in miami yesterday at half btw, with an extra week to prepare. Miamis d must game plan. Bucs are a joke Glazers!! Fire the staff!! Season isnt lost yet!!

  31. pelbuc Says:

That “fluke ” interception was a forced throw in quadruple coverage when Humphries was wide open in the flat. JW will ALWAYS throw bonehead picks and he’s lucky he only had 2 picks yesterday. All I know is that the Bucs are 0-2 since he walked back into the building. JW and GMC know one thing quite well and that is losing.

  32. NewTampaChris Says:

Why are there so many that are bringing up Mariota’s shutout yesterday? Who cares? It doesn’t make Jameis any better or worse. Those were going to be the top 2 guys that year. And no matter what else, GMC was locked in at #3 his year by every draft expert. Those were not Aguayo-like mistakes.

  33. lambchop Says:

    @TampabayBucFan,

The last play is DJax’s fault? Did you see the crappy throw to the turf? That was a lame duck throw unfortunately. Blame the play call. With 7 seconds left, throw to your damn trees in the soft zone in front of the endzone instead of having Jameis scramble and pitch it back for a low percentage play. Those kinds of plays only work with luck. When you suck, you don’t get luck.

  34. lambchop Says:

    *unless you’re the Colts.

  35. Robert Says:

    fluff, plain and simple

if JW does it again next week he will be traded quickly cause they aint givin him 100 mill

  36. NJBucsFan Says:

@Local is it because you lack the intelligence to comprehend a thought that doesn’t agree with your opinion? I simplify it for you:

    Stats = individual success

    Wins = team success

Anyone defending Winston’s performance with stats is a fanboy who only cares about his success.

And I’m not sure how solid facts are BS, but again I’ll just assume you lack any capability to develop a deep thought.

  37. adam from ny Says:

jameis is not great at leading receivers in stride…it’s just something he doesn’t do too well…the shorter the distance the better the chance…on longer distance shots it’s more difficult for him…and hitting djax on the uber long ball is problematic to the point that it’s already ingrained in his head that he simply can’t do it…

also he definitely get’s tight in and near the red zone…

  38. Anonymous Says:

JW had a great game, our defense was bad, our DB’s suck even Grimes, he haven’t been good. We need him to be that dude. Offense is good just the defense.

  39. pelbuc Says:

Been a fan since 76, and there’s just no defending this team. It’s quite evident the players, once again, have tuned out the coaches, there is no pride in these players and coaches and the whole damn organization is totally devoid of any leadership. Smith should have been fired the evening of the Bears loss just to shake things up. Koetter is dead man walking and the Glazers should force Licht to trade GMC, Kwonand, Spence and Hargraves for draft picks for our next GM. Seeing GMC and Kwon and others dancing on the sidelines down by 2 scores was the final straw. Blow it up and start over.

  40. adam from ny Says:

    otherwise he’s pretty darn good

  41. Oneilbucs Says:

That was the first turnover for Winston in the red zone since 2015 so I don’t know about he turns over the ball in the red zone. But I get it blame Winston for this team lost . It was 26 seconds left for the half the defense gave up 46 yards in 3 plays they kicked a field goal on our defense. So blame Winston this just shows the hate y’all got for him. When it was fizpatrick y’all still gave him credit for it and blame the defense so we know y’all hate Winston.

  42. adam from ny Says:

jpp is losing his mind – and will flip out soon – he has never experienced being on a team run like this…he almost had a meltdown with buckner on the sidelines yesterday….he is a very real, hard working and emotional guy that wears his heart on his sleeve…this team is starting to eat away at him…

    just a thought

  43. Bucsfanman Says:

pelbuc- The dance-off and that mickey-mouse playcall at the end of the game really put a bad taste in my mouth. And believe me, I tried to chase it away with copious amounts of bourbon.
What PRO team calls THAT play on the opponents 20 with the WRs we have?!

  44. Tony LA Says:

Anyone who blames Jameis for yesterday’s loss is just shining a bright spotlight on their football ignorance.

Carry on so we can know whose opinions are invalid from this point forward.

  45. webster Says:

    @ bucfan

Simple. Mariota’s pocket presence sucks. There were sacks where he could have gotten the ball out but he didnt. He folded like a cheap suit or he tried to run or held on to the ball to long ie suck. Where is all this speed he was suppose to have? Oh but that is right, blame jameis for every one of his sacks but for you, mariota has a bad oline. Mariota has 3 pro bowl olinemen. His line does not suck. The bucs last pro bowl lineman was davin joseph. And mariota hasnt just had one bad game. He has 2 tds 5ints and 1 or 2 fumbles in 5 games this year. Thats on the hills of throwing 12 tds and 15 ints. The point is butt hurt mariota lovers, jameis was obviously the right pick so this continued bashing fest means you are a complete idiot ie butt hurt mariota lovers or you dont like jameis period. Your defense has 1 int in 5 games. 1!!!!! Your defense had 1 pass defensed last game and it was by a d-end. 1!!!!!! Matt ryan was sacked alot the last few games. Again the bucs got 1 sack yesterday. 1!!!!!!! Its not jameis fault. Great fitz had no turnovers against the saints but the defense gave up 4O. If the only way the bucs team can win is if the qb plays perfectly, then you wont win many games because no qb or any olayer can play perfectly every game. I am amazed at the stupidity of this base.

  46. webster Says:

The idiots on this thread dont even know what quadruple coverage is. Godwin was one on one with his defender. The ball hit the back of the defenders head and shot way up in the air which allowed time for three players to try to run under the ball. You lying quadruple idiots do realize the bucs were on the 6 yard line so the players would not be that far from a ball that shot way up in the air? But i get, you lying idiots are team alternative facts ie truth isnt truth. Gtfooh

  47. Troy Says:

This was a TEAM LOSS. Defense was terrible….again. Kicking game was inconsistent….again. Winston throws two horrible pics…..again. It’s like groundhogs day. Over and Over and Over again. What’s the definition of insanity??? Watching this team with this coaching staff and thinking we’re going to see something different.

And Joe, please enlighten me on what other team is sitting their QB right now for Jameis? I count exactly ONE. One freakin team, so get over the America’s quarterback nonsense. He’s a good player that would start for one other team in the league at the moment. Meanwhile, I can name 12 QBs that I’m benching Winston for that are playing in this league right now. Drew, Brady, Ryan, Mahomes, Rivers, Rogers, Goff, Wentz, Big Ben, Newton, Stafford, Cousins. He’s a middle of the pack QB PERIOD!

  48. jjuice 32 Says:

    Tony:
Well said, anyone who knows anything about football knows what the reason for this teams demise is. Mahomes had equal stats to Jameis last night, guess he sucks to. FIRE SMITTY

  49. Kgh4life Says:

Be careful what you wish for. Jameis is not perfect, however,he’s all the Bucs got right now and believe it or not he gives the Bucs the best chance to win. We’ve seen former Bucs players get released or traded to other teams and do well, I’m afraid that will happen to Jameis, many Buc fans will get their wish.

  50. Architek Says:

Ten years from now the same mediocrity will still be accepted and every aspect of this team is mediocre including the defense leaders and quarterback

  51. LocalJoker Says:

NJBucsFan, you talk about team wins but you go back to individual success in your last sentence. Who’s the idiot here? Come out of the closet. Haterz gon hate. #sheesh

  52. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Tony

Obviously it’s not ALL JW’s fault..The Defense in the first half was just as horrendous as ever. The second half was much better, but they still made plenty of mistakes at critical times, Ryan running for that first down, the RB nobody picked up out of the backfield etc etc. you saw the game.

JW is not absolved of guilt.

The INT where he just chucked it down the field? The one in the end zone? Missing Djax in the end zone? JW didn’t look any different than he ever has. Those are rookie, bad rookie decisions…

For me he has established his ceiling. Seems like a Geno Smith to me. That wasn’t exactly the 85 Bears he was going against yesterday

Grimes ? For the most part, he just watched the game like the rest of us..it’s time to hang ’em up Brent.

Benenoch doesn’t belong on the field. His man was making tackles on running plays THAT WERE RUN TO THE OTHER SIDE. How does that happen?

On the bright side Chris Spielman is great calling our games. Tells it like it is. Scratching his head on the victory dance..right at the same time I was.

Compare Klueless and Smitty to any of the other 31 HC/DC tandems. Are they better than any of them? Is it even close?

  53. NJBucsFan Says:

@Local if you have any concept of debating with intelligence, you would understand my comments are in response to the individuals that throw our 395 yards and 4 TD’s as a trophy the fan base should be hanging their hat on. It is also in response to the Mariotta comment that he had 0 TDs and was sacked 11 times. The fact it the game is a team sport and individual stats are hollow when the team loses. I’d rather have Winston throw for 150 yards a game and a TD with a win than 400 yards and 4 TD with a loss. And yes I said Winston, not once did I hate on Winston, I just called out the facts. He’s out on a pedestal for accomplishing individual goals that to be honest should be expected from the number 1 pick in an era of football that had seen the likes of Dalton, Tannehill, and Bortles all have 4,000 yard seasons. His stats place him around 15th which in the NFL is average. The team’s win/loss record places them near the bottom of the league.

  54. Vivian Says:

JW did well. Every QB throws picks. Bucs don’t have a run game. On the 2 yard line, OL should have given more push and holes for Barber to run through. OL giving up sacks. Defense is HORRIBLE. So much confusion. This is not a communication issue. This is a coaching issue. They had two weeks to get the defense together. They are wasting good player development with poor coaching.

  55. SteveK Says:

    Webster,

The deflection INT to Godwin in the end zone: badly placed ball. Why not hit Humphries underneath who was wide open.

  56. PolkFan Says:

It hurts being a fan of this team when there’s so much incompetence with the fan base. Defense is on record breaking pace to be one of the worst and there’s people saying “ same old Jameis “ when he throws 4tds and combines for 400+ yards , avoids sacks, the deep bomb to d-Jax Desmond trufant held him at the end. Pretty accurate yesterday imo

  57. webster Says:

Njbuc is another lying jameis hater. If jameis threw for 15O yrds and 1 td and 1 int and the bucs won 9-6 like with mariota, he would be the first one saying that the game should not come down to this. Ie the offense should be scoring more. He would be calling out all the young qbs who put up yards and pints ie mahomes, goeff, wentz. Yes, wins and loses is a team stat but that does not mean you cant see who deserves the blame etc. Because njbuc was the main guy praising fitz when the bucs lost to pittsburg but now all of a sudden want to downplay winston. Njbuc is lying through his teeth. There is no team in the nfl that is winning a lot when the qb throws for 15O yrds and 1 td. So no, you wont be happy. Stop lying.

  58. Destinjohnny Says:

Jameis isn’t awful. He is middle of the road.
We won’t win a championship with him
Our secondary after 5 Jason drafts is awful
Our d line as one guy who can rush
Our o line is average at best
I do think we are now a 7-9 team though

  59. ou812 Says:

It’s all the Defense ??? Yet three and out by Offence for three and have Quarters!!!
Then when Atlanta goes to prevent Jabo pads his stats and we lose!!! Seen this before??? 2-1 Fitz. Jabo 0-2 same defense and against stronger teams.!!! Just some facts!!!

  60. DB55 Says:

Ball was thrown too low and Godwin didn’t extend for it. –Joe
    ————
Agreed and that’s my point. That’s why some receivers are paid 13 mil a yr, to make plays. See Hill’s TD catch last night, the pass was high and behind him. Guess what, he adjusted and made a play. We can’t possibly expect every pass to be perfect. WRs need to make plays worth 13 mil a yr.

  61. jmarkbuc Says:

    Polk

Like I said, that was an injury riddled Atlanta Defense, not the 85 Bears. Not even the 2018 Bears.

There is no excuse for chucking the first INT, and the second was ridiculous. If he eats it and just kicks the field goal we might have had enough points to win.

If he throws the deep ball to Djax more toward the boundary than inside, it’s a TD. He’s been in the league 3+ years now..He just doesn’t have that kind of touch.

It’s not all JW’s fault, but he still plays just well enough to get you beat.

  62. jmarkbuc Says:

Didn’t the INT in the endzone hit an ATL defender in the back?

  63. Buccfan37 Says:

I wanna puke when Mariota is brought up in discussion here.

  64. NJBucsFan Says:

Webster, continue to pound your chest for stats in lieu of wins. If I said I would be happy with Winston throwing 150 yards and 1 TD (not sure where you got 1 TD and 1 INT from other than your lack of reading comprehension) and the team winning that’s exactly what I mean. Wins are greater than indivial stats in any true fans eyes. Not some fanboy that will continually drool over stats and absolve any player of blame regardless of the facts.

On a side note, Alex Smith just best the Panthers with 163 yards and 2 TDs with 0 INTs. If Winston did that every game and won, the true fans would be happy.

  65. Bucsfanman Says:

webster- What are you even talking about?! It’s like you just want to pick a fight over nothing. Try re-reading what I posted. I’ll dumb it down for you so you can follow along:
Name of article: “Koetter Defends Jameis”
How does any other QB not named Jameis have any relevance to this story whatsoever?! Here’s a hint, NONE! Which is exactly what I was pointing out!
I could care less about Marcus Mariota, that’s the funny part! You’re too stupid to even recognize that.
Get a grip dude and read before you post.
BTW, thank you for cementing my totally absurd comment about Mariota fans! You’re so hell-bent on defending Jameis that you told on yourself.
Go find something to do and let the adults talk now!

  66. pick6 Says:

anybody who saw that game and walked away thinking the bucs need to find a new QB is crazy. Jameis has had one season out of 4 of a not-league-worst running game (2015) and one season of a not-league-worst defense (2016). Jameis has received less support from his defense and his backfield than every rookie QB drafted since him. Wentz, Dak, Goff, mahomes, mariota, trubisky, Deshaun Watson – all have had either a stronger defense and a better running attack to lean on, and most have had both.

All this stuff will just make Winston a better QB in time, i’m just glad he has the mental toughness to shoulder the blame for a deeply flawed team right now

  67. NJBucsFan Says:

Not sure how not drooling over individual stats in lieu of wins mkes me a hater. A hater would have said they would rather have any other QB playing with those stats. I’ve said I wanted Winston to do it. He’s the QB of the team at this point and there is no point in hating players on your own team, but that doesn’t absolve him from being part of the problem. Any player responsible for a TO is part of the problem. Any player blowing a coverage or missing a tackle is part of the problem.

  68. Bucsfanman Says:

webster- Cool your jets fanboy! Mariota’s 11 sacks have nothing to do with Jameis Winston. Absolutely NOTHING!
Get some new material while you’re at it.

  69. Blake Says:

NJBucsFan hates FSU or hates African Americans. End of discussion.

  70. SKBucsfan Says:

The Bucs are not going to get rid of Winston. They have too many other holes to fix without having to worry about finding a new quarterback. Besides I like watching America’s ADHD quarterback. He doesn’t always, or often for that matter , make the right choice, but it is fun to watch him scramble. I also enjoy the long bombs. Seeing him launch it down the field where there is maybe a 10% chance (based on his poor accuracy) of hitting the receiver makes it exciting. Watching the best receiving team in the NFL make shoe-top catches, climbing the ladder or contorting their bodies to catch an inaccurate pass is a testament to their skill. Unless it is a curl route you can almost guarantee the pass is going to be inaccurate.

Now before all the JW fanboys get too excited, I have to let you know I am being sincere. I do enjoy watching our offense play. I have no false expectations. You can’t win with the worst defense so I might as well enjoy the offensive show. And we will be fine on offense, as long as Winston takes his Ritalin BEFORE the game and not at half-time like he usually seems to do.

    Go Bucs!

“Bucs defense making the near-impossible possible: Since 1940 and entering today’s games, teams with 100+ rushing yards, 395+ pass yards, 4+ pass TDs were 51-1-1 all-time. Bucs lost with those stats today in 34-29 loss to Falcons.”

  73. SKBucsfan Says:

I believe he is average. He struggles with the long pass, or when the receiver is in stride, but with the best receiving core and a good offensive line we can win. The problem isn’t the offense.

  74. Pryda...sec 147 Says:

Need to remove Mike Smith ASAP maybe not fire him but he cannot be allowed to call plays on defense !!!

  75. NJBucsFan Says:

Comparing his career states to the averages of the NFL during that same year is the best way to show if he is average. When comparing them, it shows he is slightly above average in most categories. The problem is our WR corp for the past two years is well above average. Can we win with him, yes. The Bucs will be great if he was a true franchise QB and not average. He’s Andy Dalton and Ryan Tannehill.

  76. NJBucsFan Says:

When comparing his stats to the NFL average during his career it shows he is average to slightly above average. Take a look at pro football refence. You can compare Winston to the NFL average and he is only slightly above the numbers. Basically he’s Andy Dalton or Ryan Tannehill. The problem is our WR Corp is well above average.

Can we win with hi, yes. Would we be great with a true franchise QB, yes.

  77. webster Says:

All these idiots talking about hitting players in stride etc. Was humphries not in stride? Was oj catches not in stride? 73% says acurate. And stevek, dont let the commentator put alternative facts in your head to try to spew as facts. Adam was not open. If jameis had of thrown it there, he would have been tackled as soon as he caught it or worst a pick six. The only reason people think adam was open is because the defender peeled of adam once he saw the pass was made but he was not open in the flat.

  78. Bucsfanman Says:

I guess webster’s off the hook! My comments have escaped into the ethereal. Too bad.
webster- I’m a Bucs-fan-man which means that I root for all things Buccaneer. I have ZERO interest in players not on the roster nor pine for them. YOU, however, are a little over the top with your obvious favorite player.
Rumor has it that Jameis missed the flight back so he spread his wings and glided home under the starlit sky! True story!

  79. webster Says:

    Njbuc

Again, you are a lying jameis hater. Jameis 1st 2 years in the league, he only had 1 target in evans. Brate, martino, adam, reedy were all green undrafted free agents. Vjax and asj were injuried or unreliable. Last year, jameis played all season with a bum shoulder when he finally got weapons. Remember, it was called weapons for winston. After he sat for 3 games, he came back performing like a top 5 qb the last 5 or 6 games. Yesterday he threw for 4OO yds, 4 tds, 73% completion and 115 quarterback rating. Not average.

  80. Bucsfanman Says:

’87- That might NOT be the craziest stat we break this year. And that’s saying something!

  81. webster Says:

    @ bucfan

Ive read your post. You are fooling no one. You ask why is someone bringing up mariota then you quickly decided to defend his 11 sacks by blaming his oline. If you did not care, you would not have tried to defend the poor pocket presense qb. I love how you tried to throw in the “i am a buc fan line” but never defend jameis. I and many others can see threw that smokescreen and i will call you out on your blatant hypocrisy and stupidity. That goes for all you butt hurt mariota lovers. Do you hear me now?

  82. Architek Says:

No you cannot win a chip with the current coaching staff defense, leaders, and maybe not the qb. Still don’t know about the quarterback position.

  83. webster Says:

    @ njbuc

Oh. And you brought up alex smith’s “win” with 163 yards and 2 tds. What did you leave out? That the defense held the panthers to 17 pts. The bucs defense gave up 24 in the 1st half. See how that works genius? If you had a defense, there would be no need for your qb to be perfect. If alex smith could put up 3OO – 4OO yards consistently, he would still be in kansas city with all those weapons but he cant and andy reid got rid of him. You dont get it genius. Jameis does not have the luxury of just putting up 163 yards because his defense sucks. What do you not understand about that? Btw…your offense scores 29 -3O pts a game, thats more than enough to win most games if you had an “average” defense.

  84. NJBucsFan Says:

@webster and now you’re seeing my point that this is a team sport. The entire point is in response to the post about Mariota being sacked 11 times. It also calls out that I would be happy with the W if it wasn’t all on Winston. Take a moment to change out of your Winston is Superman under-Roos and understand what the point of the discussion is. The point is the TEAM needs to win. Not the Winston stats are better than Mariota stats.

See how reading comprehension works when you’re not jumping down someone’s throat because they said something you may not agree with. Just stop riding one player’s jock and look at it as a team sport.

  85. Bucsfanman Says:

webster- You got me dude! Wow! I almost feel relieved!
    Hilarious!
Your new material was calling but the line was busy! Wonder why.

  86. NJBucsFan Says:

Webster not once did I blame his oline, nor have I defended Mariota. Continue reading what’s not there. All I said is it’s a team sport but you’re too dense to even comprehend my shorter posts let alone read the in depth ones.

  87. T REX Says:

    Defense sucks.

Winston has the SECOND most turnovers since entering the league behind Blake Bortles. You will not win many games with that stat. Sorry Winston slobberers…he is America’s Great Turnover Machine. Do not sign this guy long term. We’ll be stuck in mediocrity for years. It’s in his DNA. He’s careless with the football.

  88. ATrain Says:

Hey Webster if we look at numbers

Ryan won with the same numbers and same crap defense
    Oh wait no INT

Fitz had same numbers and won two games
But you wanted him bench with his INT

    So stop with the EXCUSES
Winston has to win and he could have won this game at two different times but crap throws stop it

  89. D the Bucs fan Says:

Man how is 73% completion percentage inaccurate man we bucs don’t get the calls other teams do djax was bumped off his route 30 yards down the field on the long int. No call. The team consistently put them selves in bad situations if auclair didn’t jump off sides at the one there might not be an int in the Redzone. We can play the what If game all day. But simple fact is our coaching sucks. Watch any playoff team or competent coach and you could easily tell the difference.

  90. Bucsfanman Says:

webster- I was just commenting on another thread and thought I’d check back in. As it turns out, I haven’t seen any comments from you in non-Jameis articles. How can that be? Surely with your depth of knowledge you have SOMETHING to share outside of QB play, no?
I guess we’ll just have to keep returning here for your in-depth analysis and wisdom! LOL!
    Your BUS size is showing!

  91. Buc4Life Says:

the Godwin pick was PI all the way…have no freaking idea why they didn’t throw a flag there!!! The defender had Godwin wrapped up b4 the ball got there AND wasn’t looking in the direction of the ball. Textbook PI. Except in this game. SMFH
There’s some ref crews that flag everything and some that throw minimal flags, we got the minimal crew. I counted 3 PI’s that should’ve been called for us, and a couple of key holding calls on Atlanta that they “missed”, including one on their first 3rd down conversion when they were trying to run out the clock, the same play with the questionable spot. Should’ve been 3rd and 18 or whatever but no, they got a cheap 1st down. AAARRRGGGHHH!

  92. NJBucsFan Says:

again the lack of comprehension is astonishing. Plus putting works in my mouth????

I never defended Mariota or their OLINE. The point I was making is that it is a team sport. The only time I brought up Mariota was in response to an out of the blue comment about the sacks to pass completions and the correlation to it being a team sport…but please continue to spin what is written to fit your agenda.

The point is you need to stop riding Winston’s jock if his stats are not correlating to wins. And yes Alex Smith won because the D held the team to 17 points. That is the point I am making. It shouldn’t be on Winston to win the game since it is a team sport.

    ———–
Omg Rex how in the world did they make it to the playoffs last year? How did they manage to win games with Bortles turning the ball over so much? How how how?

  95. Oneilbucs Says:

Yes we can win a championship with Jamies. They won with Nick foles so yes . Can Tom Brady win a super bowl with this defense no can anybody win with this defense is the question? But we know y’all hate Winston and that’s cool . I wish y’all would just go for another team. And just leave cause 1 Y’all don’t know football 2 y’all rather lose with fizpatrick cause Y’all know what he is, 3 Jamies is 24 years old he still need time to grow in the NFL it takes time especially when you on a 32 rank defense 4 Y’all realy want a white quarterback. And that’s the real truth.

  96. Armando Says:

Remember when throwing for 400 yards, 70% completion rate, 4 TD’s with a couple of INT’s was considered a great game for a QB.

  97. Buc1987 Says:

Should’ve had 5 TD’s Jameis…. if Godwin wasn’t mugged in the end zone that led to another pick.

    400 yards 4 possibly 5 TD’s….and yeah they can’t win with that loser….

    Idiots.

  98. Buc1987 Says:

Armando…..NOT to Bucs fans….they want QB’s like Glennon and McCown back.

Snowy white ,squeeky clean, blonde haired blue eyes….

    Ya know the type….

  99. BucFamous Says:

Anybody complaining about Jameis either didn’t watch the game or doesn’t understand the game.

Both of the interceptions had interference on them, and the one in the end zone was a fluke and not his fault.

Some of y’all are just chasing windmills…

  100. The_Rockstar Says:

Defense……Defense …….. Defense…. I am all about Defense. But I have none for Winston. His accuracy has always been lacking. He stares down his targets. His awareness deficiency was glaring when he missed a wide open Adam Humphries and tried to thread a needle to Godwin which after a tipped ball ended in an costly inception. Wanna keep Winston, fine get a RUNNING GAME.
