Roster Cuts (Open Thread)

September 1st, 2018

Bucs GM Jason Licht.

[Updated: 4:28 p.m.] The worst part of the calendar year for shot-callers of any NFL team has begun.

Per Greg Auman of The Athletic, the first shoe to drop as the Bucs begin to whittle their roster down to 53 players by 4 p.m. Saturday is a no-brainer. It is fourth-string quarterback Austin Allen.

Feel free to comment below on cuts through Saturday as Joe updates this post frequently.

[Updated: 12:58 p.m.] And the misplaced Calgary Stampeder, wide receiver Donteea Dye, has been released per Greg Auman of The Athletic. Dye has come and gone from the Bucs roster so often the past two years, the double-doors to the players’ parking lot have a plaque with his name on it.

[Updated: 7:36 p.m.] It seems Bucs linebacker Devante Bond will begin the season on the injured reserve list per Jenna Laine of ESPN.

[Updated: 10:08 a.m.]Per Shaun Wilson’s Instagram stories feature, the running back from Duke has made the team. Greg Auman of The Athletic caught it.

[Updated: 10:17 a.m.] This is a surprise. Per the Twitter feed of Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, Keith Tandy has been cut. Joe didn’t see this one coming. Consummate pro. Dedicated worker.

[Updated: 10:21 a.m.]The Bucs have waved goodbye to one of if not their best special teams player Josh Robinson. Listed as a defensive back, Robinson rarely played on defense. Adam Schefter with the news.

[Updated: 11:54 a.m.] Bye, bye Bobo (for now). It seems receiver Bobo Wilson’s shaky training camp, where he was hurt, doomed him. For now. Jenna Laine of ESPN Twitters that Bobo has been cut. Bucs do like him to return on the practice squad but that’s if another team doesn’t pick him. Bobo’s solid fourth preseason game wasn’t good enough, however, to land him on the 53-man squad.

[Updated: 1:08 p.m.] The man who had 11 percent of the sacks last season, defensive end Will Clarke, will make the 53-man roster Twitters Greg Auman of The Athletic. He had a nice training camp.

[Updated: 1:14 p.m.] Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports Jack Cichy and Cameron Lynch both made the 53.

[Updated: 1:16 p.m.] Cornerback Javien Elliott has also been cut, per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.

[Updated: 3:41 p.m.] Rookie wide receiver Justin Watson has made the team. That’s what Jenna Laine of BSPN Twittered.

[Updated: 3:45 p.m.]  St. Petersburg native Bernard Reedy did not make the cut. Per Greg Auman of The Athletic, Reedy was released today.

[Updated: 3:45 p.m.]  Riley Bullough is headed to the injured reserve list. That comes by way of Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.

[Updated: 3:50 p.m.] Stroud also Twitters that rookie safety Jordan Whitehead has made the squad.

[Updated: 3:57 p.m.] There is dancing in the streets of Vero Beach. Per Jenna Laine of ESPN, the crooner of the velvet-lined lounge of the Space Coast’s Ramada Inn has survived.

[Updated: 4:07 p.m.] Say hello to Mike Liedtke. Per his agent, he made the Bucs’ 53-man roster. Helped that he looked strong in his first appearance on an NFL field at left tackle and handled Ziggy Ansah.

[Update: 4:28] Per Greg Auman of The Athletic, the Bucs cut both of their long-snappers. So that is a position Jason Licht will have to add in the coming days.

Pre Greg Auman also cut where
    RB Redding
TE Matt weiser and De Nat bazata

  7. Lamarcus Says:

    Switfy

Bond and Spence should be not on the roster. Demote both to the practice squad

  8. Tom S. Says:

How dumb are Bucs fans to think that a dude sporting a 22-42 record with Madden style roster construction is someone to defend.

Sure, the o-line is hot garbage, the d-line and db’s are mediocre at best, the number one overall pick at QB is about to miss 3 games due to his second sexual assault allegation before he turned 23 and the best RB on the roster is an undrafted free agent from Auburn but MAN have you seen those WR’s?!

  9. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Who are we gonna replace them with Lamarcus? Bullough isn’t even close to the player bond is, and we don’t have any other pass rushers worthy of a spot after Will Clarke.

  10. Casual Observer Says:

I think (and hope) that they cut down to 51. So they can add a couple of cuts from other teams. Maybe at OT plus another.

  11. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Buc Believer right on, we seem to be the minority on this site but is on record 3 years in a row the #1 & 2 pick are not playing or near that level

  12. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

Somebody needs to break one of Rojo’s toenails so he goes on IR until he learns to play in the NFL and make room for a veteran RB.

  13. JabooBuc Says:

So many dummies on this site. Jason had to build a team. We were the worst which is why we picked first. Remember??? This team had so many holes. This is the make or break year. They have built this team mostly thru the draft and it should be better.

  14. jmarkbuc Says:

    Didn’t Lovie hire JL?

  15. Kobe Faker Says:

“Drafting is like a box of chocalate, You never know which Bust I will pick”

  16. Tom S. Says:

The dummy JabooBuc is the person who forgot that Jason Licht BUILT the 2014 team that went 2-14 and defends a GM who by has been in the NFC South Basement 3 of his 4 years and missed the playoffs all 4 years with his 5th year likely the same.

The dummy is the person who forgets that “protege” Jon Robinson has already built a playoff team in Tennessee in half the time while the Bucs have the second longest playoff drought in a 32 team league to the Browns.

The dummy is the one who ignores every fact so they can wax poetic about a player or two they like from an 8 person draft. The person who forgets that every team has successes and failures in the draft but that the record is the one thing you cannot argue about.

Don’t be a dummy, cut the #22-42 GM with the sterling record in the 2nd round (ASJ, Noah Spence, Roberto Aguayo, RoJo) only exceeded by his ineptitude in free agency (Ghost Johnson, Anthony Collins, Sackless George Johnson, Swaggy Baker, “Floppy Hat”Sweezy, Nick Folk, TJ Ward)

  17. AlabamaBucFan Says:

@Lamarcus – Spence was tested in pre-season as both a run blocker and pass rusher. He most likely will not be used in run support this year unless there are multiple injuries at DE. I think he will be better as a situational speed rusher to close the game. It would not surprise me if he ended up with 6-8 sacks this year. Cutting him at this point seems premature.

  18. voiceofreason Says:

gonna go out on a limb and say quizzy doesnt make the cut. i like him ok, but i think the two FA rookies have more to offer.

  19. Mariner2929 Says:

With the depth we have at WR & TE, wouldn’t be surprised if a trade giving DJax for a proven OL comes around.

  20. Bucsalltheway Says:

Last year we could have had Adrian peterson we thought he was washed up until we played the cards…so much for the bucs front office. Instead we resigned and let go of Charles break my own ankles sims III lol

  21. Buc believer Says:

@Duthsty… it truly is amazing if anyone else performed at their job wether it by fireman bagboy or you name the job the way Licht performs they would have been ship canned a while back.

  22. miken Says:

@bucsalltheway… ap is washed up played great against us then the next week then 6 weeks of crap. Theres a reason no one signed him. If Guice (the guy we should have drafted) doesnt tear his acl, then he’s still on the street

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I bet Bobo Wilson gets waived.

  24. Radsy Says:

Well this thread has devolved quickly. What darkness has befallen the Sunshine State that you goons cant have any damn hope?

Does Ali Marpet not count as a second round success for Licht? It was f’n Home Run ho.

There’s no reason to disbelieve in the Jones II, Stewart, and Davis second round picks as well.

Jason Licht has learned in his position admirably after inheriting an absolute trash heap of an organization.

  25. mark2001 Says:

Schwifty…looks pretty close to me. Gives Spence a little more time to prove he belongs here..and likely another LB cut if we don’t lose another guy on IR. After Beckwith and Jameis are back, his days might be short if he doesn’t make an impact.

  26. PLEX Says:

@ Tom S, you make some good points. Especially about free agency. The only way the problem isnt our GM is if it was the head coach (lovie). This year will determine it all. They’ve known Jane is would be put the first 3 games for a long time. A good coach knows how to win with what they have ( bellicheat and garropolo). Theres not excuse for going 3-0. Isbits is right if they start of 3-0 it’s over licht is gone, koetters Gone, and it’s just us bucs fans left here never having a team we can be proud of. But make that 3-0 and then it was coaching that was the problem all along bruckner better get them boys hungry for some sacks.

  27. mark2001 Says:

    Bobo? We will see.

  28. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Bobo is far more dynamic and electric than Martino and deserves a spot after last nights performance.

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Here’s how I look at the Ronald Jones situation:

Even if he turns out to be a bust, no big deal. He is 1 of 3 2nd rounders and Jason Licht struck gold on the other two.

People forget that Jones was not a first round pick…he was a second round one. Expecting him to produce like a first rounder is silly, at least not right away.

We have Barber and Rodgers ahead of him on the depth chart. Jones is the third string RB at best right now. Again, expecting him to produce right away is silly. We have time to let him develop…so give him that time.

And finally, stop counting Chris Sims as a bust. He wasn’t. He came in to serve a purpose and he served it well enough to stay on the roster. He’s gone now because of an injury, and it is likely that he will be back at some point this season if needed.

  30. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

TYPO: I mean Charles Sims, not Chris Sims, lol.

  31. Radsy Says:

Bonzai, the book is open on all three second rounders. The positive signs from Stewart and Davis mean just as little as Jones struggles.

Also, Charles Sims was released with injury settlement.

  32. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    SchwiftyBuc Says
“Bobo is far more dynamic and electric than Martino and deserves a spot after last nights performance.”

Let’s look at this from an unbiased perspective:

    • Freddie Martino has 13 career receptions for 238 yards, which is an average of 18.3 yards per catch. Last year, he averaged 19.2 yards per catch, which is an improvement of 1.4 yards per catch.

Clearly, Martino is still improving and has not reached the higher range of his abilities. He’s only been here 2 years.

Yes, he has the occasional dropped pass, but so does every other receiver. He;s reliable enough that Winston likes throwing to him…trusts him.

At 26, he is in his prime and about to start his third year (his first year was one game for the falcons, and he had zero plays). This is the year when he should take a step forward.

And finally, Martino did not play in the last Preseason Game. Those who did not were either injured or the Bucs already considered them to make the team. This tells us he is the 5th WR, not the 6th.

    • Bob Wilson is 23. He had 1 reception for 18 yards last year. Just one. In last night’s Preseason game, he was playing against 3rd-5th stringers. He is still eligible for the Practice Squad (Martino is not). Throughout this preseason, Wilson has only played against 3rd stringers or worse, so of course he looked good.

His one chance was to be a returner, but with Charles Sims injured and released, it opened the door for Shaun Wilson, who can do the returns.

On top of that? There is no way Watson clears waivers if cut, so the Bucs cannot release him. He’s the 6th guy, like it or not.

Bobo never really had a real chance to make the final roster for the first game.

The good news is that he will likely clear waivers and make it to the Practice Squad again, and with injuries could be promoted to the roster later.

  33. Bucsfanman Says:

Bonzai- Chris Simms was a bust! He busted his spleen!!! OH! 🙂

  34. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Bobo’s 1 catch last year was for a touchdown. Oh by the way, Watson is 5th on my depth chart. Bobo is 6th. Martino is 7th.

  35. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Bob Wilson = Bobo Wilson, obviously.

  36. SchwiftyBuc Says:

And is 1 catch versus 13 really that big of a difference in sample size? No, it isn’t. And Martino has had several bad drops this preseason.

  37. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Anyway, it’s inconsequential who the 6th WR is because who ever it is will more than likely end up getting cut when Jameis and Kendell Beckwith return.

  38. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

SchwiftyBuc, except that your depth chart does not matter. Neither does mine. It’s what the Bucs feel, and they obviously feel he is better than Watson, Bobo, Reedy, etc.

    It’s clear as day.

Look, I understand a lot of fans like Wilson. He is the underdog. He puts on a great show in preseason games. Also, Martino also has a touchdown.

  39. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

SchwiftyBuc, they won’t cut the 6th WR. They’ll keep 6 all year, unless they decide to go with 7 (then Bobo will make the team).

    6 is the norm.

More likely, Ryan Smith will get released when Winston comes back. He’s the most expendable with the new additions.

  40. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Assuming Smith even makes the team.

  41. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Explain how in the world you know what the Bucs obviously feel? And 6 may be the norm, but when you have 2 phenomenal receiving TE’s you don’t need to keep 6 WR’s.

But ok bud keep thinking that you’re Nostradamus.

  42. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

SchwiftyBuc, I’m really not trying to be difficult. I like Bobo Wilson too. But I disagree with the belief that he is better than Martino at present. It just does not prove out (yet).

That’s not just my opinion, it is factual. Data proves it.

But that doesn’t mean Bobo is a bust. He will get better and better, and in the end he might prove out to have a better career than Martino. Maybe. There is just no way to know for sure yet, and since he is young and qualifies for the Practice Squad, and would probably clear waivers, the smart move is to waive him.

  43. SchwiftyBuc Says:

You still didn’t explain how you know what the Bucs “obviously feel.”

  44. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Okay, SchwiftyBuc, there’s no point in arguing over it. We’ll know in the next day or so.

“Explain how in the world you know what the Bucs obviously feel?”

As I stated above, Martino is not injured and they did not play him in the last game. If there was a real competition there, they would have let them battle it out.

    It is VERY obvious.

  45. SchwiftyBuc Says:

He may very well make the team, I don’t think he should because he has a problem dropping the ball. But I know for a fact that the Bucs are not going to go with 4 Corner’s in order to accommodate a 6th wide receiver.

  46. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

But I’m done debating it with you. We’ll find out soon enough. I can’t fault anyone for having a favored player. At least it shows you are engaged with the team, unlike the trolls around here.

For that, you have my respect.

  47. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Keep in mind they kept 5 Tight Ends last year. Johnson is now 29, so they will probably release him now because he just isn’t producing enough.

    That creates one extra spot.

  48. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Oh and I just realized that I forgot to include Josh Robinson who will also more than likely make the roster along with Ryan Smith due to their status as elite gunners on ST.

That means we either take one less D-line or O-line, maybe even just go with 5 Wide-outs. In which case there should be no way in hell that we keep Martino over Justin Watson. I’ll riot in the streets if they do that.

  49. SchwiftyBuc Says:

They will keep 4 TE’s/H-backs so Johnson doesn’t even enter the equation.

  50. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

According to Greg Auman, Bucs have released:

    WR Donteea Dye
    RB Devine Redding
    TE Matt Weiser
    DT Nathan Bazata
    QB Austin Allen

  51. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Greg Auman also stated on twitter that the Bucs held out 10 DBs from last night’s game because they’ve already made their decisions there on who to keep.

  52. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

SchwiftyBuc, I agree about the 4 Tight Ends.

    • Cameron Brate
    • O.J. Howard
    • Alan Cross
    • Antony Auclair

  53. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Bet you 50 Bucs I can name the 10 they will keep.

    Brent Grimes
    Justin Evans
    Vernon Hargreaves
    Chris Conte
    Carlton Davis
    MJ Stewart
    Keith Tandy
    Jordan Whitehead
    Ryan Smith
    Josh Robinson

  54. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    PER TWITTER JUST NOW:

    Greg Auman @gregauman
    7m7 minutes ago
Bucs held Martino out last night, so that bodes well for him as 6th WR. Wilson would likely be next but might come back on practice squad.

  55. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    SchwiftyBuc Says
    “Bet you 50 Bucs…”

LOL, I don’t actually gamble. Anytime I say bet, substitute the word with ‘believe’.

Besides, I agree with most of your names.

I think Keith Tandy might get the boot, and I think Ryan Smith and Josh Robinson are a toss up. One or the other probably.

You can read all of my predictions by clicking my name, which leads to my facebook page. Feel free to chime in, but keep it friendly. I block unfriendly commenters. You may just like the other articles too. I’m just a fan though, so don’t expect JBF quality.

  56. mark2001 Says:

Just have to say, Bonzai…if you think Cichy will make the practice squad, you missed the boat. He is either on the 53 or he is gone. And just because a player didn’t pay in the game last night doesn’t mean he is “in”. In fact, they may think he is already out no matter what he did in that game, and just haven’t pulled the trigger on releasing him yet.

  57. miken Says:

guys that were held out last night could be gone too. If they didn’t play, maybe their mind was already made up.

  58. mark2001 Says:

Exactly miken…. They wouldn’t want a guy they plan to cut or think they have trade value out there and get hurt. Then they have injury settlement or an untradable guy.

  59. Tc Says:

Capps goes to the practice squad. Spence is on thin ice. Jones has to step it up, big time.

  60. Dewey Selmon Says:

Can Spence be moved to LB full time? And what spot would it be?

  61. CalBucsFan Says:

@DSelmon I’m in agreement with that, I believe he should have been moved to LB right out of college, he’s fast but way too small for the line.

  62. JimmyJack Says:

Not a big Spence fan ….the guy is just a after thought to me. But I don’t think they cut him.

For one we have nobody special at end after Vin Curry. For two the guy still does have potential at a low cost. For three they might have some splainin to do why they cut the only young End we got………if they can’t figure out how to get Spence going maybe that on them. Maybe a shiny new HC could make Spence sing.

  63. Mike Says:

Light should one day have a bust in Canton for having had the most busts in NFL History

    Simple as that

  64. JabooBuc Says:

Tom S – You think Jon Robinson built something in Tennessee? It’s the worst division in the NFL with two of the teams, Indy and Houston, missing their starting QB’s for most of the season. With all that they were 9-7 and got a wild card sport. Hardly impressive.

On top of that, they have a QB that blows and not much else that scares anyone. As you said, they all hit and miss on players. Nobody talks about all of the players that NE regularly misses on because they have the best QB in the league and the best coach in the league.

He was here when we had a 9-7 season so I guess he was awesome that year and now can’t find his ass? Again, he had to build from the ground up. I believe they were incredibly unlucky last year. JW got hurt and the FA’s they brought in as a band aid didn’t work out. I suppose you have it all figured out as to how these players will react once they get a fat paycheck. I like where this team is headed as i see a lot of talent that was not here over the past few years.

  65. JimmyJack Says:

Say what you want about Licht. The dudes calling the shots. He gonna bring in a few new faces for y’all too before we get started.

And that little 22-44 thing you spout is worth as much as dirty toilet paper. And ya know why? That’s cause Licuts in charge baby…..And anybody worth a lick knows the NFL is a ‘what have you done for me lately’ league.

You can take your little uneducated draft knowledge and unnecessary critic and stuff it straight up your ass cause if we win our home opener nobody’s gonna give a flying bleep about your nonsense.

  66. Gambelero Says:

Jenna Lane of BSPN saying, “I am told…” instead of citing GA. Really unprofessional. If she had it out first, GA would absolutely give her credit—100% of the time.

  67. JimmyJack Says:

Keep touting 22-44 and talk about it til your heart’s content.

But any fan that knows anything about the NFL knows that record is past tense, thusby meaningless.

We are getting ready to start a season here and all that matters is how many wins we get this year.

If you think for a second anbodys going to give a bleep about 22-44 if we win our home opener then you must be touched in the head.

Go ahead and talk about 22-44 while you can and have your fun. You will likely be irrevalant in about 8 days.

  68. JimmyJack Says:

  71. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Jaboo…Robinson has picked an All-Pro RT, a good corner in Adoree, a Pro Bowler in Byard, a damn good runner in Henry. Davis has been hurt and we’ll see how this year’s picks do (I like Landry). I love how you scoff at a playoff appearance considering the Bucs history.

  72. JabooBuc Says:

Christopher- you do realize that just a couple of years ago the Bucs also had a 9-7 record in what is arguably the toughest division in the NFL?

  73. JabooBuc Says:

Also, when you say damn good runner in Henry, based on what? Your perception of him out of Bama? So far he hasn’t done a hell of a lot. Jason has selected a pro bowl QB, a book end LT (harder to come by than a RT) pro bowl LB, and pro bowl Guard. Oh yeah, and pro bowl WR and what may soon to be another pro bowl receiver in Godwin.

  74. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Am I alone when I don’t find funny “future UPS drivers, Junior College Philosophy Professors, Mattress Movers, Insurance Claims Adjusters and all the other supposed occupations awaiting these would be NFL players.
Players who will have their life-long dreams shattered….not everyone is fortunate enough to make it….
But….I find at least some empathy for these guys and I wish them well and I’m hoping their education prepared them for something other than football.

  75. mark2001 Says:

Well said Tbbf.. hope they were able to use that scholarship to get a degree that will help them get a job outside of the NFL. For these guy that won’t make it to the 53 or practice squad, and especially for those that have been hammering it for years in various cities, and time is running out, God bless.

  76. joestang Says:

cut spence now, we gave him plenty of chances. everyone said how good he physically looked in camp, however looking good doesn’t equate to playing good.

  77. Lamarcus Says:

  78. Lamarcus Says:

I agree we Mark001 on all his post

  79. JabooBuc Says:

Gotta love this site. TBBF and Mark2001 make sincere comments about the what is the reality for many of these players chasing a dream and then comes joestang with “cut him he’s had a enough chances” comment.

  80. buc15 Says:

I am with you TBBF. These guys all have worked most of their lives only to watch the dream fade away. Wish more people thought about this rather than try to be keyboard jackasses.

  81. Jim Says:

Can we also discard the term “camp meat”, while we’re at it?

  82. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Buccaneer Bonzai you need to quit hitting that bong, it’s making you stupid. They aren’t going to boot Tandy!!! He’s eventually going to take Contes spot whe n Smith quits being stupid like you!!! LOL

  83. Kord Says:

Can’t….. a person just get excited for some Buc football? Hope most of the guys cut end up on other teams for another shot or on our preactice squad. Also thankful nobody commenting on this sight is in danger of becoming a Buc gm.

  84. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Tampabaybucfan Says
    “Am I alone… ”

Nope, you are not alone. That’s the reason I’m in favor of keeping the 4 preseason games. Tons of talent is already slipping through the cracks, can you imagine how many good players would never be discovered?

Tom Brady is a prime example of how a late round QB can still be good. And we’re always seeing undrafted guys turn out good. Peyton Barber for example.

Until the NFL gets a developmental league, we need those games.

But they should be free to fans.

  85. FairMinded Says:

    @Schwifty – solid 53

  86. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I won’t fault you for being a Tandy fan, but you are wrong about him replacing Conte. Jordan Whitehead was brought in to replace Conte.

Keith Tandy has only proven that he can’t make the best of opportunities when given the chance.

  88. Trench War Says:

I wish we had a definitive number on how many they will keep per position. like 6, 7, 8, wr’s? how many d&o lineman? how many lb’s, and rb’s? how many db’s, and specialist? That makes it so much easier to recognize who the bubble players will be. We already know after the QB position there are only 50 spots. I just hope they get it right and keep the best 50.

  89. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

You may be right. Whitehead Tandy either would be an upgrade instead of Conte. Think Whitehead would be a great understudy and would benefit immensely learning this season from Tandy…..Just saying!! GO BUCS!!! Lets get this Buc Party Started in Orleans.

  90. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

‘Camp Meat’ is staying as a term.

It refers to the players brought in, not to compete, but the meet the 90 man roster requirement. Players who simply do not try hard enough or do not have enough ability or talent.

They get their chance to prove they deserve to be considered. If they don’t, they are meat…although a more accurate term would be ‘Camp Fat’.

Let’s not have the political correct, lets not offend anyone nonsense creep into training camp too.

  91. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“I wish we had a definitive number on how many they will keep per position. ”

Those numbers do exist, but each team has the ability to sacrifice one spot for another.

Traditionally, a team keeps four tight ends, for example. But last year, the Bucs kept five. I don’t think they will do that this year.

If any position on the team needs an extra roster spot, I would say it is wide receiver. Traditionally, six are kept. This year, there is so much talent that seven could be justified.

  92. Trench War Says:

    @SchwiftyBuc

your 53 looks very feasible but I would make 2 changes, stash DL Will Clarke on ps and add wr Freddie Martino. Stash LB Devonte Bond on ps add DB Josh Robinson who I’m sure Licht will use as his drop and add player spot. Besides a minor difference in position spots I think you are spot on! Good job!

  93. Trench War Says:

Uh thanks for the lesson there “The BonZ” lol but those few differences make a huge difference on who stays and who goes. I guess I could use their strategy from last year but that cuts out some pretty good talent.

  94. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Jaboo—-I didn’t know the discussion was Licht vs Robinson. I think they’re both good GMs. But it’s tough to give Licht “wins” vs Robinson when Robinson was here for some of those picks.

  95. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Kobe Faker and Mike very funny about Licht!

  96. firethecannons Says:

CUT Devante Bond, Ryan Smith, Noah Spence, Javien Elliot
don’t look back, these four have NOT helped Bucs get better despite multiple years on the roster.

  97. Tom S. Says:

I love that there a Bucs fans who think the record of people who are in charge of the roster and hiring the coaches are meaningless. I guess Ron Wolf, Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick and Bill Polian being in control of rosters who won championships and annually competed in the playoffs was secondary to the fact that they were really cool people. Because in sports isn’t that what matters? If you have to defend someone by ignoring the reason they are actually paid to do their job, you should really think about why you are defending them in the first place.

Regarding Bonzai, who is very good about being wrong about things, Alvin Kamara won the ROY last year as a third round pick. Dalvin Cook led the league in rushing last year before his ACL injury, as a second round pick. LeVeon Bell and LeSean McCoy are second round picks. David Johnson and Kareem Hunt were 3rd round picks. DeVonte Freeman (who Licht passed on to take Charles Sims) was a 4th round pick. Jordan Howard was a 5th round pick. The majority of top RB’s in the league are players taken after the first round. Licht managed to snag RoJo at a higher draft spot (38) than Cook, Kamara (67) and Hunt (86) last year. While RoJo would be cut if it wasn’t for his draft status, following in the immortal footsteps of Roberto Aguayo.

Meanwhile Josh Jackson was first round talent at CB was passed on at 38 and when Bonzai thinks that the Bucs CB’s in the second are steals he obviously doesn’t know that Jackson was the highest rated corner in preseason in the NFL and had 2 pick 6’s (with one called back due to penalty).

  98. Bucs3 Says:

Who the hell is Mr 22-42?

  99. Bucs3 Says:

Nvm lol just read more dumbass quotes from dumbass people that aren’t satisfied with our GM if he misses on any draft picks

  100. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

On real nfl rosters camp meat is exactly that on the bucs roster camp meat equals starter

  101. Joe Says:

I wish we had a definitive number on how many they will keep per position. like 6, 7, 8, wr’s? how many d&o lineman? how many lb’s, and rb’s? how many db’s, and specialist?

That’s all fluid because offensive line and linebackers are beat up.

  102. Rod Munch Says:

Austin was never ever ever going to make it in the NFL, made zero sense to even bring him in, his college tape is terrible, the guy can’t throw the ball and doesn’t have anything close to the physical abilities to be an NFL QB.

Meanwhile Quinton Flowers literally has the skills of a RB and a B to B+ arm and couldn’t even get an invite from anyone to even be in camp as a QB. Makes no sense to me. The Bucs literally would have sold a few more thousand preseason tickets for game 4 if they had Flowers and then said he’d play at least the 2nd half of that game. Meanwhile Flowers has to go to Cinny as a RB to even have a look. Not saying Flowers IS an NFL QB, but I mean BJ Daniels got to play QB for a couple of years in the NFL and he’s about 1/50th the player that Flowers is.

  103. Tom S. Says:

People who root for a team that misses the playoffs for 10 straight years but fully support the GM who is in his 5th year running the team are the real winners here. Not in real life though. Because actual wins don’t matter apparently #specialfans

  104. Ed Kerber Says:

Here’s my Fanboy Dream. Trade 2019 2nd plus 2020 1st and 3rd pick AND Noah Spence and Adam Humpries to Oakland for Khalil Mack. Solves WR log jam and significantly upgrades Bucs D-love me.

  105. Trench War Says:

    @Tom S

If you don’t understand how people can still be a fan of a team that has an ugly history of losing then may I suggest you support another team. The Patriots, Eagles, Steelers would probably be more down to your shallow bandwagoneer personality. Why beat yourself up? Why ridicule fans that have developed rhino skin? I’m a Buc fan through and through, and I will not be deterred. If we win I get all excited, if we lose I moan and groan. The real Buc fans understand we live in a market that’s riddled with transplanters. I’ve been to games where the opposition outnumbered the real fans. Don’t tell us how we should be your concept of what a fan is. Yes Jason Licht has been here 5 years and has been trying to bring in talent all through the drafts because Tampa doesn’t draw big name free agents. When we do sign a free agent they just take a boatload of cash, end up in the floppy hat or play mediocre for a season or two and then move on.

  106. Tom S. Says:

Trench War my dear reading challenged friend, you can support the TEAM by hoping to flush the incompetent GM so that a new one who has a clue comes in. Jason Licht is NOT the Buccaneers, dear special fan. He’s the man who currently occupies the GM role and has done so to the tune of 22-42. I know, it’s really hard for you to understand how one can see a problem for a team and rather than want it to continue to plague the franchise you want it removed but let me give you, special fan that you are, an example:

While Josh McCown was trying his hardest I should have rooted for him to stay in Tampa? I should have rooted for more years of Roberto Aguayo to stick around? Should I have rooted for a another 4 year extension for Doug Martin? No, I should and do root for competent players to take their spots. For the same reason I root for a competent GM to run this team.

It’s really hard to get the distinction that you want your team to succeed by filling it with competence and winners but I hope maybe you understand the point, if only a little.

  107. Tom S. Says:

It amazes me that fans and writers can look at a player who does poorly and openly criticize them (Charles Sims, Doug Martin, Chris Baker). They can look at a head coach and immediately see their flaws and want them fired (Koetter, Smith). But the GM who signed/drafted those players and hired those coaches? Nah, criticizing them is a bridge too far because apparently the GM is the team, he doesn’t work for it. #specialfans

  108. DislocatedBucsFan Says:

Tom good point. Outside of on here there really isn’t much criticism towards GM’s other than if they’re on the hot seat, hired or fired.

  109. DislocatedBucsFan Says:

Ed that’s a lot of bang for a non scheme fit OLB. Granted I don’t know nor watch a loT of Mack. I imagine he could be coached up.

  110. JabooBuc Says:

Tom S- you are missing the point. This team was void of talent when Jason took over. His job is to get talent to Tampa. This team now has a lot of talent. You act as though there is no process to this. BIll Bellichik had one winning season in Cleveland out of 4. He needed talent and that took time.

Parcels needed talent. In NY he had it, in Dallas, not so much. If you can sit here and say with all honesty that this team is not more talented than when Jason got here then I’d like to know what you’re smoking.

  111. Tom S. Says:

So you’re saying that because you “believe” there is more subjective “talent” on the roster that it should trump results? Isn’t the point of having talent winning games? Shouldnt these talented players be selected to Pro Bowl or All Pro rosters?

At one point Justin Gilbert, Johnny Manziel, Trent Richardson, Corey Coleman, Danny Shelton, Noah Spence, ASJ, Aguayo, VHIII had a label as “talented” as they were first and second round picks of the Bucs and Browns. Did their talent amount to anything? Have they gone to the Pro Bowl? Helped a team to the playoffs? When does a subjective idea of “talent” turn into something?

If you’re counting at home each team in the NFL should average out 3 Pro Bowlers based on the Pro Bowl roster and invites given out divided by teams. How many Bucs were invited to the Pro Bowl last year?

Answer: Two, Gerald McCoy, who was a Dominik selection and Kwon Alexander. Meaning talent scouring Jason Licht managed to acquire 1 player invited to the 2018 Pro Bowl while Dominik who no one considers a great manager of talent(except Joe) had 3 players at the event, McCoy, Michael Bennet and Donald Penn (whom Licht cut upon his arrival). Hell Bruce Allen still has Aquib Talib making an annual trek to the all-star event.

If you are trying to tell someone 5 years into their term they still need more time to build a roster because they haven’t managed to do it so far then why isn’t everyone up on arms over the calls to fire Greg Schiano, Lovie Smith, Dirk Koetter two years into their own careers? Don’t you miss Lovie Jaboo?

Maybe you’ve forgotten but do you remember all the “Rockstar” Dominik acolytes like Joe praising the talent he acquired through the draft? Mark Barron, Lavonte David, Doug Martin and Gerald McCoy. Joe still hopelessly drools over Mark Barron LA Rams film as he wistfully thinks of the times that Dominik selected Adrian Clayborn over Cameron Jordan or Arrelious Benn over Golden Tate. Ask Joe today and he’ll still defend the guy. But there are a lot less people defending the “Rockstar” now because his perceived “talent” beared no fruit. The same has happened to Licht for the past 4 years running. .

  112. Buc4evr Says:

Spence proves every game he is not a DE; with Beckwith out the guy should have been moved to MLB in the preseason. As it is now, looks like they will be carrying him at DE which is a waste of a roster space. Maybe he could have helped our poor linebacking corps.

  113. Pickgrin Says:

    JabooBuc Says:
“Tom S – If you can sit here and say with all honesty that this team is not more talented than when Jason got here then I’d like to know what you’re smoking.”

    More like “sniffing”.

“Looks like Tom S. picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue…”

  114. adam from ny Says:

chucky for one, looks old now that he’s on the sidelines again…and not done up with make up in the booth…he seems a little lost in vegas between the slot machine and hookers…let’s see how he pans out – raider brass played 10 card monte with the little chuckaneer

  115. Ndog Says:

I love how people name the players Licht picked they don’t like but forget to mention Mike Evans (best WR in our history), Brate, OJ (will probaby be one of the best TE in the league) Kwon, Marpet, Winston (best QB in our history) Grimes, Godwin, Barber, Justin Evans, D Smith, JPP, Jensen, Fitz, and is not even talking about what Vea, Jones, Stewart, Davis and Whitehead might become.

  116. BucEmUp Says:

I was going to engage….but I’m to hungover to deal with some of you idiots. wow….

  117. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

People, people…Tom S is obviously a fan of a division rival team. His goal is not to see the team do better, but to see it remain in the gutter.,

So if Jason Licht were really that bad, he would want him to remain. The fact that he wants him gone means he fears for his own team so long as Licht is here.

    The life of a troll.

  118. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

adam from ny, have you noticed he’s already begun trying to dismantle the best parts of the Raiders? Just like he did here.

I predict he will bench his starting QB at some point this year or next.

  119. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Here’s a bit of irony for everyone. Roberto Aguayo was perfect for the chargers in the preseason. Wouldn’t it be something if he made the team and became an elite kicker?

  120. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Who was the best NFL quarterback in the preseason?

  121. Buc1987 Says:

    Good points Tom…

Take this for what it’s worth…

Rich Mckay went 7-9 then 6-10 then 3rd season 10-6 then back to 8-8 in his first 4 years as GM of the Bucs. Not defending Licht just saying…

Bonzai…trolls don’t go to this much length.

  122. JabooBuc Says:

Tom S- why don’t you recognize that the team was in basic shambles when Jason came in? Offense sucked, defense sucked, special teams sucked. It’s the reason they picked first and grabbed JW. They have had to literally build both sides of the ball.

It’s extremely rare that that happens overnight. I will grant you that he has missed on some picks and some FA’s but that happens to every GM. My take is that he has built up this team enough around JW to now win in the NFC South. It’s one of the reasons I am so disappointed in JW because I believe this team is poised to when now and his suspension really hampers this teams progress. There were not enough pieces in place last year which made them fragile as a total team. JW got hurt, kicking game was still subpar and the defense needed more pieces.

I contend that if the defense can just be average this year this team will win more than it loses. End of the day, if that doesn’t happen this year then I’m with you and it may be time to find someone else.

  123. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Damn Keith Tandy just got the axe. Did not expect that one. I guess Tandyman is gonna be sad.

  124. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Khalil Mack traded to the Bears. I can already hear the pessimists slithering…

    0-4?

  125. Batman Wood Says:

For those of you who always bring up how great a GM Jon Robinson has been compared to Jason Licht I have 2 words “Kevin Dodd”. Robinson took him with the 1st pick of the 2nd round in 2016. Dodd went on to register 12 tackles in 3 years, didn’t report to OTA’s this year and was released when he didn’t report to training camp. That’s one huge Bust. Also, Jack Conklin only cost the Titans a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick. He should be a Pro Bowler for that price. Not that impressed with Robinson or the Titans. They won’t be in the playoffs this year. And Jack Conklin will start the season on the PUP list after tearing his ACL in the playoffs.

  126. Joe Says:

    Batman Wood:

    Love your username!

  127. stpetebucsfan Says:

Mack got at least two first round picks for the Raiders.

Mack is a great talent but at some point the numbers game starts adding up. I wouldn’t have wanted to trade TWO first round picks for anybody.

When the Bear players were called together for an in house announcement of the deal one player joked from the back…let us guess…you’ve just traded all of us for Khalil Mack. LOL

What will his salary do to their cap? As D.R. likes to point out football is still a team sport. That’s placing an incredibly heavy bet on ONE player. If he should blow his knee out the Bears are hosed.

  131. Bucs4Life Says:

Bernard Reedy should make that spot he is explosive and fast the Bucs let him go last year for what reason idk he was a great returner and he’s a consistent receiver and pretty much catch every thing he has the best game Thursday night but if Bucs let him go it will be they lost again he has the potential to be even better than Humpries in the slot I’m a witness and just as fast Desean Jackson speed kills

  132. Easy Says:

Josh Robinson cut must mean they like Justin Watson as a gunner and don’t wanna pay him. And not surprised Tandy was cut

  134. NJBucsFan Says:

    stpetebucsfan Says:

I wouldn’t have wanted to trade TWO first round picks for anybody.

The Glazers traded two #1’s and 2 #2’s for Jon Gruden

The Bucs took a decade to recover from that talent drain.

  138. Tom S. Says:

Jaboo if you’re theory was correct that the team was in shambles and Licht had any abilit to evaluate this prior to signing to be the GM, Licht 1. Wouldn’t have traded a 4th round pick for Logan Mankins in training camp of 2014 (which became the second pick in that round and netted the Patriots their top edge rusher in Trey Flowers) 2. Licht wouldn’t have talked about the playoffs at his press conference 3. He wouldn’t have even taken the job as he was a top contender for the Dolphins whom he had just interviewed with and had other potential suitors lined up.

If Jason Licht knew the spin that posters here spout then the dude doesn’t take the job in the first place and bides his time for a roster he can successfully build kicker first.

  139. Bob in Valrico Says:

I like Tandy ,but his injuries have gotten in the way of his progress at times.

Who had the most receptions? Watson….by far… 12.

    Best KO return ave… S. Wilson…26.5

    RB yard ave. Barber… 5.8, Wilson 4.7

That said, a dealio between the Bucs & Wilson like “we cut you, you reject any PS offer, go work with Jameis and we’ll bring you back on the PS at Big $$$ to make up for lost cheese” would be viewed harshly by Goodell and his clown car.

Also for those that care it also has a very large legit hurricane in the Atlantic late next weak, they generally turn out to sea but the model keeps pushing it further west on each pass. A very long ways out but never to early to panic.

    That is all.

  157. Hodad Says:

In reality the Bears are only giving up one first round pick, because they’re getting a player,Mack in the trade. JPP is making half of what Mack is making, but at this stage of his career isn’t half the player Mack is. Tell me you wouldn’t trade JPP, Curry, Urein, and Spence for Mack. Throw in D Jax salary, and we could’ve easily paid Mack.

  173. Rod Munch Says:

Hey Joe, if you think it’s worthy to do so you should ask if people like this current cut format or preferred the old format of cutting guys in waves. For me, it’s clear, I liked the multiple weeks of cuts. Additionally when you had to get the roster size down before week 4 it meant week 4 wasn’t 5th and 6th stringers in by the end of the game, they had to play guys that would actually one day play in the NFL.

Anywho I wonder if that’s just me or if people like this all at once stuff more.

In any case I have a feeling that 18 game season with 2 preseason games format is here very very soon so I guess it won’t matter.

Then look at what Auman just said…

“Big winners so far today in Bucs roster cutdowns: RB Shaun Wilson, S Isaiah Johnson, LBs Jack Cichy and Cameron Lynch, WR Freddie Martino. Still a few spots on bubble left to be decided.”

    Any similarities?

  175. Bobby M. Says:

Bobo is talented enough but you get the impression he doesn’t fit the mold of professionalism the team is trying to establish.

  176. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

    Bobby M

Bucs need to figure out talent and winners. They need to stop requiring every player to be a career losing heartless choirboy like gmc that experiment has failed

  177. Rod Munch Says:

If Dirk is still trying to establish professionalism in year 3 of his reign then the team has a lot bigger issues than Bobo being a j/o.

  178. j dubb Says:

G Jonathon Cooper was cut from the 49ers, I tend to think he is better than any of our in house options for right guard….that would be a great pick up imo

  179. orlbucfan Says:

Any receivers like Bobo cut by the Bucs will get snatched up quick. This is the most talented offense this team has had. Not sure why they cut Robinson. He is a great ST’s player as well as being the ST captain. Monken will help DK in the regular season. Koetter has to have an OC he trusts. The HC is a heavy stress position. Monken will relieve it for DK. Good cos I still don’t care for Mike Smith. Sure hope I will be proven wrong in NO. Bucs just need a competent defense. Time will tell.

  184. Frank Says:

Can we sign Jonathan Cooper please!!! Like now!

  185. BigMacAttack Says:

I don’t care what they do. I like Licht and think he’s done a good job. I know I couldn’t do his job. I think the team looks much better than last year. Too bad about Bond and Beckwith. Hope they get well soon. I have good feelings about this defense though. Really like Bobo. I’m sure Licht has his eye on somebody. It will all work out. It’s only football 🏈 😂 🤷‍♂️

  186. Gene Deckehoff is my hero Says:

    Cut Jason Licht

  187. Dapostman Says:

Josh Robinson though a special teams ace is a one trick pony.

Keith Tandy was cut to make room for a player that has more upside and will be cut from another team. Lots of safetys will be available to sign.

Guys on the roster bubble need to do more than one thing. Simple as that.

  188. Defense Rules Says:

j dubb & Frank … Not seeing what’s so special about Guard Jonathan Cooper. High draft pick by Cardinals in 2013 but only stuck there for 2 seasons, then bounced around. Sounds like 49ers cut him because his surgically repaired knee didn’t cooperate (missed OTAs & part of training camp, then got beaten out by a rookie).

Now Ryan Nall is a different story. Been wanting to see us sign a big back to complement Peyton Barber, and it looks like Nall fills that square (6’2″ & 232 lbs). He’s had several really nice runs this preseason for Chicago. I’d sign him as our 5th RB (until Jameis comes back) and see what he can contribute.

    Vero Beach. But yes. 🙂

  192. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

[Updated: 7:36 p.m.] It seems Bucs linebacker Devante Bond will begin the season on the injured reserve list per Jenna Laine of ESPN.

Just as I predicted on my page (click my name).

  193. mark2001 Says:

    BB..posted that last night…Plantar fasciitis..

  194. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Jack Cichy made the team. I figured he would end up on the Practice Squad.

  195. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I’m bummed over Riley Bullough. I think if he had not been injured, he would have made the team. I’m thinking that is why Cichy made the team. They needed a backup.

  196. j dubb Says:

@ Defense Rules…I’m not sayin J.Cooper is an all pro, but I feel more comfortable with him than I do say Cappa or Benenoch at this point. It gives luxury in not having to rush Cappa plus maybe we can let him focus on one position rather than train him all across the line

  197. j dubb Says:

    If Cooper is fully healthy

  198. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    mark2001 Says
    “BB..posted that last night…Plantar fasciitis.”

    Bummer.

I made my predictions on Tuesday, before the final game. So I figured I was taking a chance on getting a couple wrong.

It’s a real drag in this case though. Bully worked his tail off to get good enough to start. I realize he never would replace Kwon, but still, he could have been a great backup.

    Cichy is good too though.

  199. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Watson made the team. He is the 6th WR.

    Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“Watson will be the 6th WR”

  200. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Congrats to Mike Liedtke, who I assume if our new backup Left Tackle.

He probably earned the spot in game 4…and he did very well against backups. Hope he can do the same against starters.

  201. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

j dubb, Cappa is going to replace Dotson after this year.

  202. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Watching Pitch Black to pass the time today. Wife has never seen the movie. Love it.

So, think Leonard Wester will still make the team?

  203. Proudbucsfan Says:

I was really hoping Riley Bullough was going to make the team. The guy is a born leader. Hopefully the Bucs keep him on injured reserve and then activate him to the active roster when he’s healthy.

  204. NJBucsFan Says:

No to Cooper. He’s a first round bust. Been traded or cut by 5 teams since 2013. There’s better and younger options.

  205. mark2001 Says:

Bonzai…told you and others for the last week. Cichy would not have made the practice squad…some other team would have picked him off waivers or GW would have signed him to their practice squad.

Like Dirt…but too slow. Practice squad was about his ceiling.

  206. Stephen Says:

Can we bring in dan Bailey sure could use him.

  207. mark2001 Says:

Proud… why bother to even post guys if you don’t do a little reading as the thread develops?…

“Dirt on IR…attempt to reach an injury settlement per R. Stroud”.

That doesn’t sound like bringing him back, does it?

  208. mark2001 Says:

    What a coincidence…

Who had the most tackles in Pre-season? Isaiah Johnson- 16, Cichy and Lynch 14.

Who had the most receptions? Watson….by far… 12.

    Best KO return ave… S. Wilson…26.5

    RB yard ave. Barber… 5.8, Wilson 4.7

  209. PSLBob Says:

Didn’t read all of the comments, so if I’m late to the party, my apologies. I know where the BUCS can pick up a good kicker – Roberto Aguayo was just waived by the Chargers. What a disastrous time for the young man. Seemed to have such great potential. Hopefully, he’ll get his mojo back before it’s too late, if it isn’t already. Talk about a BUST!

  210. mark2001 Says:

No problem PSL Bob…With Aguayo, the question must be, will he fall apart during the pressures of the regular season? If the guy can mentally fall apart at any time and leave you with a handful of losses and no other FG kicker, he is pretty much worthless. I hope he held on to some of his original contract money.

  211. Joe Says:

Can we bring in dan Bailey sure could use him.

Already have an expensive kicker under a guaranteed contract.

  212. mark2001 Says:

Stats don’t tell the whole story, but some times they tell you a heck of a lot. And the preseason stats did.

  213. rrsrq Says:

Very young safety position: Johnson, Evans, Whitehead. Go get Eric Reid.

  214. rrsrq Says:

Don’t get the Riley B. love, that guy wasn’t quick or fast, too light, got moved real easy, if you are gonna be light you better have lateral quickness. Cichy will be fine. Bond stays hurt, my guess is the LB crew is not finished.

  215. Nprbuc Says:

Gentlemen, Start Your Engines! We have our team (couple to go) for 2018. Now to get everyone healthy and on the field so we can see what we really have. Can’t wait for the season to get started. We have the very real potential to shock a lot of people. Let’s see who shows up. Go Bucs!

How many more kickers are we going to have go through before we finally get it?

  229. DanBucsFan Says:

Joe – I’m sure it will come soon. But when will we get a article with the 53 players on the current roster? Thx Joe’s

  230. unbelievable Says:

Definitely some decent talent available from other teams.

My guess is we are looking mostly at o-line safety, maybe d-line or cornerback (and long snapper apparently). Think they are all set at WR, RB, and LB

  231. JimmyJack Says:

Not sure why anybody’s upset about Tandy except for any respect he’s gained as a long tenured Buc. At the end of the day we are getting younger at his position. This was bound to happen sooner or later.

Pretty crazy that each draft pick(I think) made the team. That does not happen often. They even found a gem in Shawn Wilson who absolutely earned his spot.

  232. j dubb Says:

@ Buccaneer Bonzai, u just proved my point about Cappa…..if hes going to replace Dotson next year, let him focus on playing tackle, not cross training at center and guard

  233. JimmyJack Says:

J.Dubb if that is the plan still don’t mean it’s gonna happen. Dirk may not be here to implement it

  234. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

Dotson should have been upgraded years ago. This oline is going to suck bad. Marpet is the only keeper and he is good for 2 to 4 missed games this year thus making the only true starter a part time player. No NFL quality rg or rt have been on the roster in more than 2 years… QBs are going to get killed

  235. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

Jeremy McPlaybook fumbled in the last preseason game… that is why he got cut. Glad we cut him last year.

Shocked about the long snappers… guess Catanzaro didn’t like either one?

  236. j dubb Says:

Very True Jimmy Jack, I just wish we let our lineman, master one position before throwing that much more on his plate, especially since its already a huge adjustment for him seeing as he is a rookie….Hopefully it doesnt hinder his progress, but not everyone is Ali Marpet and can learn multiple positions on the go smoothly.

  237. Not there yet Says:

I like that they’ve gotten the old blood out for more talented new guys who have more to prove. A lot of surprising cuts have happened as usual so hope they shore up spots with more veterans free agents

  238. Brandon Says:

Both long snappers cut. My guess is that this is because Unrein has to make final 53 to be able to be put on IR with designation to return. They’re taking the gamble that neither will be signed before they stash Unrein.

  239. JimmyJack Says:

I know it j.dubb. just follow the history of the C position and most teams have no problems grooming one with low investment.

Dirk tried to reinvent the wheel last year and never realized while he was changing the tire his face was right next to the tailpipe that backfired.

Now we had to buy the most expensive C in history and will be paying two more lineman soon. The Glazers are not going to be happy about paying a below average line the most money in the league. Dirk better have it figured.

  240. JimmyJack Says:

Brandon….How often do teams cut their long snapper? Once every 12 years?

  241. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Buccaneer Bonzai!!! Guess I need to remove my head from my ass. Would have never dreamed it. But after they treated him after he played in 2016 I suppose they just didn’t like him. Conte will get it done for you, wait and see. Funny thing is Smith, Koetter and likely Licht will be gone after this Fiasco of a season. I’m done with the Buccaneer Nation. They are a bunch of losers anyway. This will be my last post on this site. I want to shout out to Bucsfanman My Man. Keep spitting those words of wisdom. Your my Man…. My final prediction!!!! Your Bucs will win no more than 5 games this season!!! Off to find me another team to root for!!!! OVER & OUT!!

  242. JimmyJack Says:

Tandyman…..Never realized you were a Tandy fan first and Bucs second. Anyways, thanks for being a fan for a few years.

And thanks for jumping off. We didn’t wanna make you walk the plank.

Now swim away we don’t wanna see nothing but the back of your head. Loser

  243. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

    Tandyman

My condolences sir. Look at the positive side tandy escapes the black hole that is Tampa bay Buccaneers football. He has a chance to leave the basement now.

  244. Godeep66 Says:

I hope everyone is watching next year’s first round draft pick, Will Grier. Will the Thrill!!!

    j dubb Says
“@ Buccaneer Bonzai, u just proved my point about Cappa…..if hes going to replace Dotson next year, let him focus on playing tackle, not cross training at center and guard”or

I happen to agree with your point, but cross training is important with a team that gets hit by a lot of injuries. You cannot bring in new players every time there is an injury.

Besides, I have a feeling his reps at Right Tackle will increase during the regular season.

  246. Jiggle Says:

this threat was fun to read

  247. Jiggle Buc Fan Says:

And also add DT as well.

  248. BuC Says:

Does anyone know the salary of the practice squad folks? It’s not close to the league minimum is it? Maybe if it’s close they wouldn’t want to pack up and move. Minimum is around $7,000 per NFL game week but teams can pay much more than that. –Joe
