“Protection Was Awesome”

September 18th, 2018

Reason to smile.

The Bucs, albeit for two games, are on a historic roll.

A franchise that has long been known more for a bungling offense is lighting up the scoreboard and re-writing record books to start of the 2018 season. It’s incredible.

And so too is the pass blocking, says a former offensive lineman himself, Brian Baldinger, who does a wonderful job of breaking down tape with sharp analysis on Twitter. It’s good stuff. Joe enjoys it. Baldinger also was at the stadium Sunday for the Bucs’ beating of the Eagles.

This morning, Baldinger had a cutup of a Bucs drive against the Super Bowl champs in which backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick completed five straight passes ending with a touchdown to Chris Godwin. The pass protection was spot on (did you know Michael Bennett played for the Eagles?). And so too were Fitz’s passes.

Enjoy the video!

“Protection was awesome,” Baldinger said. “Fitzpatrick was even better.”

the consistent thing was they were not coming up the gut. hell the only had 3 down lineman on most plays against 5 OL. they ran right past the center once if not more to sack fitz.

The OL is balling no doubt, but those clips they were not coming hard. the D is scared of fitz.

que the jboo homers to tell us how he’d put up 60 with this OL

  2. bucincharlotte Says:

As a longtime Bucs fan…it is SO hard to believe this is anything more than a fluke…but watching that now just got me so amped up. Good Lord. Can this be real life?!?

  3. Gettinthebucs Says:

Hi jaboo Homer here. I have no doubt jameis would ball out in this offense but Fitz is balling right now. The way I see it is we have 2 starting QBs right now. It’s a long season let’s see how it shakes out and just enjoy watching the most entertaining Bucs team in over a decade.

  4. Larry Says:

Nice to see a QB who doesn’t throw interceptions, doesn’t fumble, doesn’t try to throw the ball while falling backwards and puts the team first, not his own stats. IF Fitz keeps playing like he is now doing, it would insane to replace him with someone who hasn’t played in three weeks and wasn’t doing as good as Fitz is now, when he did play!!! Jameis needs to grow up. He will never be the mature, consistent leader the Bucs need, until he does.

  5. Ricky Newsome Says:

Man Im so proud of my Bucs and I think our defense is going to start clicking too

  6. Resurrection of Fitz Says:

    Great stuff Joe!!!

What a difference to be on the good side of 14 point leads or more in the past two games.

This offense may give enough time in the next few games for the defense to come together. All is looking great so far.

    Go Bucs!!!

  7. Resurrection of Fitz Says:

Fitz might be the one to save our coaches jobs.

  8. DBS Says:

What make this feel so good is not seeing the team march up and down the field only to come up empty the entire first half. But be down 21 points. Then the mad dash in the 4th to try and come back. But this will still depend how far the defense and kicker can help. There will be games where the games the offense can’t do it alone. The first 2 have been close.

  9. HFXBUC Says:

    Wrong.

He’s wrong and you’re wrong. I’ve read enough comments here to know this Oline sucks. They got beat on every snap last week. And when they didn’t it was because Philly was playing bad. The oline was almost as bad as the defence.

gingerman bringing the tude to the ol for sure…

and jpp bring a new demeanor to the dl too…

  12. TampaBayAllDay Says:

I love watching Fitz feet when he throws it kind of remind me of Aaron Rodgers. Its unorthodox and dope

  13. Godeep66 Says:

Newsworthy: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did pick up JW‘s 2019 option at $20.5 million. Although, it is only guaranteed if he is injured! Look for the Buccaneers to not have him play a game this year and then cut him at the end of the year and not have to pay him a dime!!!!! Now you may get a better understanding on why he got rid of his agent. I guess Jason Licht is not as dumb as we will thought he was.

  14. BigHogHaynes Says:

Fitz is only doing his job, and to my surprise he is doing it BIG! Our Coaching staff will decide who is the No.1 QB when Winston returns! To anyone who believes our OL has come around watch that Guard Celeb B……someone please get this man off the field!

  15. D-Rome Says:

    Great find. Thank Joe.

  16. Lord Cornelius Says:

It’s weird we can’t get the run game going with these guys; but I think it’s just due to game scenario.

In New Orleans the run game looked decent early; but was stuffed 2nd half since it was obvious we were just going to be milking clock more.

Kind of the same deal with the Eagles. Got up early to where running made more sense. It’d be nice to have more success in those situations so that we can milk clock without relying on a big pass completion; but at the same time if teams keep selling out on the run we are going to light them up.

Sticking with Barber in fantasy one more week either way lol. Figure he’s due to have a decent game or score a TD or 2 with how we move the ball. Go Bucs!

  17. 813bucboi Says:

I think licht’s best FA signing has been Jensen….he made an instant impact mentally and physically…..he’s earned that highest paid center label…..

    #TUNNELVISION!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  18. BigMacAttack Says:

You do realize the Eagles gave up fewer total rush yards in 2017’ than any other team. Minnesota was the only other team that came close to their totals.

  19. Lord Cornelius Says:

    @BigMac

Good to know. I am all in on Barber saving two of my 0-2 fantasy starting teams lol

  20. Not there yet Says:

Consistency is Winston’s biggest issue. The ball placement is there sometimes meaning he can do it. Here needs to grow up and chill out because he’s just to over the top to me, because he was so erratic so was the team and Fitz is showing him this is what the team plays like when the QB is calm and collected.

  21. called out Says:

    @ HFXBUC

Just admit – your Eagle team got demolished.

  22. Cgmaster Says:

Go Deep, we all continue to get dumber with your every post.

  23. feelthepewterpower Says:

Is the offensive line backing up less? It seems the best way to mitigate an aggressive pass rush is to rush at the rushers instead…of giving them space by backing up….

  24. SOEbuc Says:

Would love to continue to add more and make this a top tier oline. Jameis could also be amazing behind a dominating oline. A RT in the early rounds in 2019. Dot will be 33 next year and will be getting close to $4 million. Free up that space and don’t pull a Brent Grimes if he were to get injured next year cus I would highly doubt they’re gonna resign him after his contract is up in 2020.

  25. adam from ny Says:

    news of note:

one of the wise guy steelers d linemen said today, to rattle fitz you gotta get under his helmet when sacking him, and drag him down by that moppy food beard…

  26. feelthepewterpower Says:

It is akin to the dline backing off the blue line in hockey….you want your defenseman moving up not backing off the blue line. I think this logic can apply to the Oline on their blue line!

  27. adam from ny Says:

this is gonna make the ol mad…especially that savage jensen

  29. GhostofSchiano Says:

Jason Licht deserves a bonus for bringing in Jensen. Marpet back at guard, all the weapons at WR-TE, the upgraded D-line (4 sacks in 2 games)…….

Monken calling plays, a true training camp this year, player chemistry…

It’s all there, just gotta keep it going.

  30. SOEbuc Says:

    Godeep66

National sports media like ESPN and NFL Network still can’t get numbers, or players, and other things down for the Bucs, even though we’ve had this amazing start. I highly doubt Newsworthy is going to dig deep on Jameis’ contract situation and his being here in Tampa.

  31. JimmyJack Says:

Not sure if an adjustment was made or not but I noticed Fletcher Cox made a huge play in the early first quarter then disappeared. Great job shutting dpown that animal.

Bennet was making the most noise on their line for sure but we were able to push him around enough where he didn’t have a big impact.

The Bears game looks to be the big test for that unit. Can’t wait!!!!

  32. Kobe Faker Says:

“Peeps here should start watching more football games around the NFL. This 1 read 3 step drop QBgetting the ball out is the NFL normal”

“Kobe seen more slants and short crosses during this 1 game called by Monk than Klueless called all season”
