Wentz Delayed; Foles Struggling

August 27th, 2018

Bucs may dodge bullet.

Yeah, the Bucs play their last preseason game Thursday night. With everyone that is expected to not suit up, Joe is referring to it as an AAF job fair.

So Joe has turned his focus to the regular season. With America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, shelved due to a three-game sentence from NFL strongman Roger Goodell, Joe is guessing the best bet for the Bucs to avoid an 0-3 start (which would be a precursor to a doomed season) is the second game of the season when the Bucs host the Eagles.

(Full disclosure: Joe took the under in Philadelphia’s season-win total at 10.5 when he was in Vegas last month.)

Well, it looks like the Bucs chances may be getting better.

It seems, per L.L. Bean-wearing, Second Amendment abolitionistparrot-insensitive, chewing-with-his-mouth-open, soup-gulping, California train-romancinganti-football proliferationouthouse-admiringairline-nappingsteerage-flyingYogi Berra-worshipingurinal picture-takingvideo game-playingTaylor Swift-listeningpickpocket-thwartingBucs-uniform-frowningAllie-LaForce-smittenBig-Ten-Network-hatingpedestrian-bumpingolive oil-lappingpopcorn-munchingcoffee-slurpingfried-chicken-eatingoatmeal-lovingcircle-jerking, craft beer-chugging, cricket-watchingscone-loathingcollege football-naïvebaseball-box-score-readingNPR-honkfilthy-hotel-stayingfight-instigatingbarista-training, social activist Peter King of NBC Sports fame, Wentz is iffy at best to face the Bucs in Week 2, King said by way of “Dull Patrick Show” producer Andrew Perloff.

Now some would say this is bad news because that means Super Bowl MVP and Bucs killer Nick Foles will get the start. Joe doesn’t know how much stock to put into this because it is preseason play, but Foles is having a nasty preseason.

Foles did not play against the Steelers this month to open preseason. In his first preseason appearance facing the Belicheats, he was sacked as many times as he threw completions. Last week against Cleveland, he had more completions but also two picks and three sacks.

Yeah, Joe is a bearer of brighter news today.

This is why strength of schedule arguments are silly. You just never know! Just play the team in front of you. With or without Wentz, the Egg-les are going down!

  2. Lamarcus Says:

Files is back to being Foles again which is garbage. Glad the Bucs made the right call by not calling The Eagles for a trade. Now, scary if he doesn’t play cuz back ups usually make a name for themselves vs the Bucs and career games from average players.

  3. Godeep66 Says:

I bet the Falcons could care less which QB the Eagles have playing in week one. This is what we have become: hoping injured players on other teams don’t heal in time for a game that’s is a month away. Pretty sad.

  4. SchwiftyBuc Says:

I’m sure Mike Smith’s obsession with Quarters off coverage will make Foles look fantastic.

  5. Billy_43 Says:

I really don’t think this 3 game stretch will be as bad as people are saying.
One thing is for sure and that is the Bucs seem more prepared than ever to start a season as far as firing on all cylinders.

Demar Dotson said this Training Camp has been the most physical of ANY Training Camp he has attended.

We get NO without Mark Ingram
    Philly without (Maybe/Probably) Wentz
Who knows what happens with Pitt after giving up 51 to the Packers.

Yeah I know it’s preseason, but how would you feel if our team gave up 51?
At the end of the 1st QTR it was 24-14. Geez.

Come on guys. The Bucs can win ANY of these games.

Never heard of any team that would prefer to play a starting quarterback over a backup.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

As long as we aren’t playing against Keenum, Anderson or Hundley we’ll be just fine….

  8. Dewey Selmom Says:

We all know our history vs backup qb’s. It’s not pretty.

  9. Lord Cornelius Says:

    @Bucsfanman

Agree on the SOS arguments. I only look at SOS moreso to see if a team over or underachived in a season.

For example – the 2016 Dolphins made the playoffs but had a super easy schedule where I think they only beat one winning team all year. I never took that team seriously and they sucked in 2017 (6-10); despite playing in one of the weakest divisions in football.

That’s also why the 9-7 2016 Bucs; were more impressive to me than the flukey 10 win Rah team. The 10 win Rah team didn’t beat any winners. The 9-7 Koetter team beat multiple playoff teams.

But anyway – year over year SOS isn’t as big a deal in terms of going off of last season. LIke 1/3 of every NFL roster has turned over by now. The Eagles are still a talented team but are much more banged up than they were to start last year; and lost a bunch of their players (to us specifically) while not replenishing that same talent.

  10. Wausa Says:

After the way the Bucs(likely to make the regular season roster) played this preseason it is hard not to be optimistic about the upcoming season.

Bucsfanman is correct. The NFL changes dramatically each season with the exception of the Patriots.

  11. Bucsfanman Says:

Lord C- It also doesn’t take into account coaching changes like what happened in Pittsburgh. The Steelers have a new OC. I’m thinking an Antonio meltdown is in the cards! In fact, I’m banking on it! Plus, their defense doesn’t scare me this year. They are going to really miss Shazier’s presence.
    16-0! All the way!

“NO MORE VET!!!”-Keyshawn Johnson. We are playing them here, but that might be my favorite Bucs quote of all time.

” I don’t think I’ve seen Joe run that fast ever”- Gene Deckerhoff. Still gives me chills…

  15. El_Buc941 Says:

@Godeep66 When you play in the BEST division in the NFL,the ONLY division to have all 4 teams go to the Superbowl since 2002,where 3 of the 4 QBs have been MVPs you need every bit of luck because in this division 9-7 or even 10-6 records won’t guarantee you make the playoffs. As for “hoping” every team we face has a key player unable to play, we play in the division that’s hardest to win in!

  16. unbelievable Says:

    Bucsfanman & Lord Corn-

I like the cut of your jibs.

  17. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @Bucsfanman and Lord C

Agree with both of you about S.O.S. NFL teams just turn over too much year to year and as Lord C pointed out where are we getting these strength ratings..are they just based on W’s and L’s with no thought as to how they achieved their records?

We’ll either be ready to play or we won’t. If we’re truly ready we can win any of the first three games.

  18. NprBuc Says:

Godeep66. God Bless you. Just what I have been saying all along. We need to put the best team on the field, play our hearts out and get what we get! Makes no difference who we are lining up across from. We need to dominate and win the individual battles. If you do that, you win. I hate this crap about hoping people get hurt. If we need people to be hurt in order to win we are not a good team. I want a team that knows how to win and goes out and does it, no matter who we play. That is the sign of a good team.

  19. BucHead5588 Says:

Bucs have a different attitude this year we got this gobucs

  20. Warrenfb12 Says:

Foles will shred the Bucs. Until the Bucs prove they won’t get embarrassed by back up QBs on a regular basis, all NFL QBs will salivate at the opportunity to throw on us.

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I don’t hope or wish opponent’s players get hurt……but I’m surely not unhappy when they do.
I want for us to win, period…..no excuses……and stop this “trying not to lose” we did that against Detroit and guess what…..we lost.
A bunch of running plays to try to eat clock and all we did was give them the ball back……Sickening.

  22. DBS Says:

You also had a QB that did not have the brains of a High School QB. A High SchoolQB knows better than to go to the line with that amount of time on the clock and not runit down then snap it.
