Kendell Beckwith On His Rehab

August 23rd, 2018

Talks return.

Be careful when the Bucs offer up a timetable for injured players returning.

That is what Joe is learning just in this calendar year alone.

Linebacker Kendell Beckwith suffered a fractured ankle in an April auto accident and has been sidelined since. The Bucs, just after his surgery, were hopeful Beckwith would be ready for training camp.

Training Camp 2018 came and went and yesterday and after the final practice Joe caught up with Beckwith to find out what type of timetable he has in getting back on the practice field.

In short, there is no timetable.

Beckwith told Joe during the first week of training camp he was scheduled to run on his surgically-repaired ankle during the second week of training camp and at that point, the Bucs’ medical staff would decide how to proceed.

Beckwith said he has been running on his ankle but a return to the practice fields of One Buc Palace is a big mystery.

“We will see,” Beckwith told Joe. “It is kind of still up in the air. We will see where I am at and how I feel. We haven’t set a time set yet.”

Beckwith said he is running without any discomfort though when he initially tested his ankle it felt weird.

“Running is good, it feels good,” Beckwith said. “It was a little awkward at first because I haven’t run for a while.”

Of course, Joe wants to see the talented Beckwith back on the field soon. If the Bucs were going to suffer an injury, at least linebacker is the defense’s deepest position.

I say let him heal and be able to contribute in the regular season, maybe after the bye. We’ve seen his tape. We know what he offers and he’s got it all on tape. Just heal..

  2. Mort Says:

Throw him on the PUP list and let him get right. There is plenty of depth and no need to rush him back and jack up his ankle any more potentially.

  3. Defense Rules Says:

Agree with Trench War … hoping Beckwith is back right after the Bye. Easy to forget that he was a rookie last year, and missing all of the OTA & preseason won’t work in his favor (doubt that he’s in ‘football shape’ right now even if he has been lifting & doing some running). Sure will be happy to see him back though, and still hoping that Smitty gives him a chance to unseat Kwon at MLB.

    Agree

Kwon is not playing at high level. I like kwon too but you can’t give a guy 10 mil per and play like that. Even if they call him leader of defense. Looks like kwon Is out of position and taking bad angles again. This is unacceptable in last year before deal.

Beckwith looked last year like a natural Mike linebacker. We got lots of contracts to do and need to pay the elite players not just “good ” players

Yeah sucks for beck but let us be patient with him

  6. Cobraboy Says:

Team W-L success does not depend on Beckwith. Let the ankle heal.

  7. El Buco Realisto Says:

We might see him placed on IR with designation to return, give him more time and then evaluate him after week 6!!!!!!! Will also allow the Bucs to keep an extra spot for a young player that they would like to keep from being pillage from the roster during cuts!!!!!!

Imagine that Buc fans, There are actually some cuts from the Bucs Roster this year that other teams might be interested in!!!!!!!!!!!!

#trust the coaches!!!!!!!! Fix the “real” problem, the roster!!!!!!!!!!
    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. 813bucboi Says:

the same folks talking about let him sit until after the bye will be the same folks throwing the “injury” excuse in everyone’s face….

be careful what you wish for!!!!!

  9. m0j0 Says:

There’s no doubt in my mind he will go on IR for 6 weeks, as the depth at LB is pretty good for the Bucs will Taylor, Bullough, Cinchy and Bond.

I get disliking “Alibi Ikes” and your desire to accept “no excuses”.

My problem with you is that you apparently cannot differentiate between reality and excuses.

When I read your stuff I think of that Monty Python scene you must have loved.
When the knight gets his arm cut off his opponent asks do you yield? No I do not. This goes on as the first knight loses more limbs…both of his legs…do you yield?

I think if Jameis had his head literally ripped off and then threw a blind interception you would rail at the excuse of him not being able to see his target with his head ripped off.

There are excuses, extenuating circumstances, and simple FACTS! Not sure you are able to differentiate.

    nawl….you got it backwards….

reality is injuries will happen…..got that….excuses are we failed because of injuries, HK,SOS etc…..

no we failed because the coaches “choose to suck” as monken puts it and the coaches failed to adjust…..they failed to put players in a position to be successful….they failed to get creative…..they failed to play to their players strengths….those are facts…that reality……

and if Winston had his head ripped off, I would be scream for a flag!!!!!lol….

you and others like you remind me of Lt. Dan from Forest Gump….always blaming everyone else and making excuses for your short comings instead of looking at yourself in the mirror…..unlike Forest, I aint saving your a$$……

You know you’re pretty quick to point out others supposed shortcomings when you should take a look in the mirror. Yes, injuries are used as an excuse sometimes especially when a teams stars are displaced by backups, and because of those injuries, undoubtedly, the quality of play will suffer. Significant injuries do play a vital role on how every team competes throughout the season. So in that regard it’s completely justified to use an inordinate amount of rash injuries as an excuse for sub-quality play.

  14. Brandon Says:

I think they hold him out and put him on the PUP list to free up a roster spot. When/if he’s ready to return in 6 weeks there will undoubtedly be other injuries or people that need to be cast off the roster for him to replace.

  15. 813bucboi Says:

    trench

significant injuries are the ones that dalvin cook had….jj watt had….d.watson had….ryan tannahill….all those players missed the entire season or at least half the season….

all of our “star” players played in at least 12games!!!!!….

LVD, kwon, Winston, grimes all missed 2-4 games…..

so yeah, when your “star” players miss 2-4games and you end up 5-11 and try to blame injuries, your making EXCUSES!!!!…..
