Another Star Down, Aligns For Buccaneers

August 13th, 2018

Is Jason Licht feeling a football-gods shift for his defense?

First it was Saints leading rusher and workhorse Pro Bowl running back Mark Ingram, who pounded the rock 230 times last season and caught 58 balls.

Bucs fans got great news this spring that Ingram won’t play against Tampa Bay on opening day because he’s suspended for violating the NFL’s performance enhancing drug policy.

New Orleans will miss him as they try not to lose their fifth consecutive season-opener.

Today, word flowed out of NFL Network that Eagles leading receiver Alshon Jeffrey (nine touchdowns, 789 yards) likely will miss the first six games of the season with lingering issues after offseason shoulder surgery. The Bucs play the Eagles in Week 2.

Could things be lining up any better for a Bucs defense that could use its share of good luck?

What next? A Vita Vea return to practice?

Joe already was pumped that Philly’s leading rusher last year, LeGarrette Blount, is playing for the Lions.

Damn, there’s no reason why this Bucs team should be 0-3 unless they flat out stink. If you can’t beat a powerful team once in a while, then what does that make you?

Let’s not forget how many back-up QB’s have shred this team up over the last few years.

How bout we just try to become a good team that can beat other teams more often than just occasionally?

  2. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

No qb, no rt, bad lt, unproven rb soft mentally weak defense captained by career losers is closer to a guarantee they are 0-3… wouldn’t it be nice if you had confidence enough in your team that you would not have to hope for intangibles to merely have a chance to win.

  3. Buccernutter Says:

    Joe

I’m just here to remind you that you said we had a 90% chance of going 0-3 the first three weeks. 😃
Sure would be nice to see a link on that.–Joe

  4. feelthepewterpower Says:

You’re also basing the Strength of Schedule based on last season…Which has nothing to do with this season. Different personnel, coaches, schemes, players (due to free agency, injury, etc.). Some players had career years last year for those team, so they may not perform as well. The strength of schedule is also dictated by a number of factors such as: rest time for the opponent, travel time, weather, are teams coming off byes, is it early in the year when teams are rustiest, etc.

  5. miken Says:

Now we just need Brees, Bell, Big Ben to go down

  6. IMBUC Says:

Antonio Brown just limped off the field!!! More stars aligning?

  7. NPRbuc Says:

Let’s not get into the habit of wishing bad luck on others. As real fans, let’s wish that OUR team performs to its potential. If we are on, we can be unbeatable without needing injuries or suspensions having to hurt the guys we are playing. Next thing ya know, they will be putting an asterisk next to our wins saying Joe Blow didn’t play. We can be an excellent team that can beat anybody on any Sunday as the saying goes. Go Bucs!!

  8. Mike Johnson Says:

Don’t matter who is injured or not. All that stars aligning is a bunch of BS. Bucs just need to be ready. We will get everybody;s best shot whether they play Drew Brees or Micky Mouse. BUCS need WINS..and plenty of them.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

How ‘bout a Djax trade to the Eagles week 3?

  10. BucEmUp Says:

I’m not gonna celebrate injuries it’s bad karma, still plenty of.time for us to.see injuries on our side of things. Plus bad teams celebrate their opponents injuries. Good team beat your ones not the ground. Let’s be a good team!

Then again good luck doing that with, well….you know what I’m going t say.

  11. BucEmUp Says:

In order for us to really feel like things are swinging our way, the first three teams need to have no qbs on their rosters….and no wrs either. Anyone can throw and catch against Smith’s coverage

  12. DB55 Says:

Lol, call me when Fletcher Cox goes down. That will be a true godsend. Yes he is that scary, no finesse at all just pure in your face nasty mean ugly bully.

  13. DB55 Says:

    Bucemup

Lmao, truer story has never been told. Stay woke my brother. Lmao

  14. Buchead5588 Says:

Lol miken sounds good but hey I don’t wish injuries on anyone but any player that goes down that’s against our Bucs I’m not complaining so far it’s ingram for suspension Jeffery’s due to injury Guice due to injury panthers lost one of there starting OLinemen for the year don’t wish them on anyone but keep them coming lol

  15. Buccfan37 Says:

Leveon Bell is not well liked by fans in Pittsburgh who think he is a greedy jerk. Bell did claim he is the best receiver and running back in the league wanting $ 20 million a year. He hasn’t showed up for training camp or preseason, same as last year. I’d be thrilled for the Bucs to do a number on him in the MNF game, as in stuffing him to little relevance in that matchup.

  16. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

So riddle me this Batman! How many times has the Bucs continue to have an advantage as a top player being out or the extreme heat in RJS during September/October will simply stifle Buc opponents. Everyone knows the rest of the story…The Den of Depression, back-up QB absolutely dominates the Bucs, etc.

    Maybe it ends this year?

  17. Etzel Says:

    Saquon tweaked hamstring? #stars #stars #stars

Yeah, I know he’ll probably be ready by November… lol.

  18. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “Damn, there’s no reason why this Bucs team should be 0-3 unless they flat out stink.” Buccernutter already called you on that Joe, but he was way too gentle. Personally thought only Washington politicians switched trains that quickly to increase their odds of being on the right track. Was it Fitz’s performance last Thursday night that changed your mind? So let’s see. You’re going to claim that Joe said a team that goes 0-3 doesn’t stink? C’mon, guys. –Joe

And for other folks, it’s not very tasteful to be wishing for injuries to any player or team. As NPRbuc said, “Let’s not get into the habit of wishing bad luck on others.” Injuries in the NFL are unfortunately a fact of life.

  19. Dooshlarue Says:

    Miken

Great dream about those 3 starting QBs going down…..we always do so well against backups.
Do you actually watch the games?

  20. Kobe Faker Says:

Week 2, Philly is going to make RJS a home game for the Eagles

All green at the Den of depression

Philly short passing attack is going to slice the Bucs corner for 35pts

” The next big thing….Derek Barnett”

    Kobe Faker

  21. Not there yet Says:

This entire article stinks like the bucs the last decade

Leading the charge for weak-minded fans of the bucs as usual because the weak-minded media thinks the bucs need injuries to stars to win the first 3 games

How does beating a top team missing let players prove anything whatsoever? Just real weak Joe really really weak. What a sorry fanbase we have.

8th paragraph from the bottom. “which is 90% likely going 0-3”

Never forgot that one lol. Had to archive it.

  23. Buccernutter Says:

    Joe

It’s on your article called Doug Martin 2.0. Wouldn’t let me paste it.

8th paragraph from the bottom. First sentence “(season) is 90% likely going 0-3)

    Never forgot that one. Lol

  24. SOEbuc Says:

    NPRbuc

Nicely said. I’d rather beat the crap out of those teams when they’re locked and loaded and not uses excuses that we beat those good teams cus they had injuries.

  26. Godeep66 Says:

The best “star aligned” is the suspension of America’s Groper for the first three games of the season.

  27. Defense Rules Says:

Good catch buccernutter … “Players could be cut or traded as a result of a playoff-less season, which is 90 percent likely starting 0-3.” (29 June 2018)

  28. JimmyJack Says:

Gotta call it like I see it bro. Trash article.

  29. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I don’t think Joe was saying that there was a 90% chance the Bucs would go 0-3…..I think he was saying if the Bucs go 0-3, there’s a 90% chance they don’t make the playoffs.

  30. Defense Rules Says:

BTW Joe, forgot to add that Muscle Hamster 2.0 piece (29 June 2018) was a great article. Left no doubt exactly where you stand in regards to Jameis’ leadership and path forward (for the Bucs that is). Liked it even better the second time I read it.

  31. Wright Says:

    You idiots,

Joe wasn’t saying the Bucs are 90% likely to go 0-3, he was saying that teams that go 0-3 are 90% likely to miss the playoffs. He is wrong about that stat though as only 5 teams have ever done that, likely making the percentage higher.

  32. Defense Rules Says:

TBBF, I think you’re right. Pretty sure I’m seen that stat before. Apologies Joe. So what do you think the chances are that Bucs start 0-3 anyways? I’m still betting we go 2-1 or better. Of course I’m still hoping that our pass rush is real and not just potential.

  33. Wright Says:

    Defense Rules,

I think Joe’s been leaning towards 1-2? I see that number alot in his articles, but I’m not speaking for him. What do you think, Joe?

  34. Dan Says:

gotbbucs is right. We are literally a punching bag for backups since chucky left. Anyone thinking soft competition is gonna help us has forgotten just how soft we are as a team. Until this team shows some heart they are gonna be the underdogs.

  35. DB55 Says:

Watching Tenn v GB. Great test for our dline, I want to see them beat Tenn’s oline which is beastly and stop Derrick Henry and Deion Lewis, BIG TEST!

If Mike Smith decides to play off coverage it’s over bc Mariota does throw more than 7 yards downfield and their receivers take those 5 yard slants for 50 yard gains.

  36. Tampabaybucfan Says:

If I had to wager…..I’d bet on us going 1-2……winning at NO.

Agreed, we will be good enough to win with those players healthy.

  38. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

LOL – Buccanutter = Moron: I swear I get so tilted reading posts by idiots that are semi literate. You should boot him Joe for being a moron and calling you out on something simply because he has no reading comprehension.

  39. Trench War Says:

I’m sorry but this sounds like Joe is hedging his bet in case Fitz does win against Nola and Philly. He’ll say it was a given, and that any camp meat for a QB could have done the same thing even though Joe’s favorite American QB sits at home on his @ss. I’m excited, to have Winston come back and prove why he’s our franchise QB but I will not minimize Fitz’s effort just to purposely prop up Winston. No matter how you try to slice it ..these first 3 games will not be easy.

  40. Seminole Bill Says:

A win will be much easier if there were more Buc jerseys in the stands. Last year’s home games were an embarrassment, with the number of opposing team jerseys on display.

  41. BigMacAttack Says:

Alshon Jeffrey is right up there with Julio Jones, so if the Bucs don’t have to face him, that’s great news. The Bears were idiots for letting him get away. It was a move right out of the Bucs’ playbook.

  42. BigMacAttack Says:

I hate the Saints and they’re going down in week 1.

  43. BrianBucs Says:

So we have now sank to the level of celebrating injuries to opponents star players in hope that it helps us win games? Ugh

  44. Joe Says:

Leading the charge for weak-minded fans of the bucs as usual because the weak-minded media thinks the bucs need injuries to stars to win the first 3 games

Unless you believe the Bucs are a better team than New Orleans, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh (Joe would to see a copy of your Las Vegas tickets where you put cash down to back up your boasts), injuries to key players, while distasteful, sure won’t hurt.

  45. BigMacAttack Says:

I wouldn’t say anyone is celebrating, but maybe enjoying a stroke of good fortune. One man’s loss is another man’s gain and the Bucs have stuck in the Suck for seemingly eternity.

    ……

That’s a funny way of spelling KIFFIN.

  47. BigMacAttack Says:

I think the Bucs if they can start healthy, can beat all 3 to start the season. It’s going to take entire team effort and little to no mistakes. Believe it because it can happen, but you have to pressure Drew Brees to get him off his timing and make mistakes. If the Bucs beat the Saints and build a little confidence there’s no telling what they can do.

  48. SteveK Says:

Go Bucs! We could be a playoff contender this year.

  49. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Damn a bunch of Stars aligning!!! I want every teams best. Play weak ass teams and you will become a weak ass team. No excuses this year. We got the Mo Jo to be a bad Mo Fo!!!!! LETS GO!!!!!

  50. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I don’t really want serious injuries to opposing teams….but if several players would tweak a hammy right before our game….I’d take it. Or, maybe a bout of the flew affecting 20 or 30…..or…..missing the plane or showing up at the wrong stadium or perhaps a very bad case of diarrhea….maybe urinary track infections or hives……nothing really bad.

The Bucs should be ready for them and will make us feel better.

  57. Buccernutter Says:

Na if you actually read the article Joe references that the season could get out of hand cuz of Jameis and people could lose jobs after what is likely to be a 90% chance of and 0-3 start. I even called it out in a later article and the negative Joe commented on it being possible.

You can believe what you want but the ironic part is touchdown can’t even spell my name but is preaching reading comprehension. Moron? Get your insults from Disney movies? You either clearly didn’t read the article or you’re a hypocrite. You tilted? 😂

This site really emphasizes how dumb our fans can be. Including you, wright.

Read it before you comment. What a joke.

  58. Buccernutter Says:

The irony is intense in here with people who couldn’t comprehend calling others out for not being able to comprehend.

Joe knows what he said and the intelligent fans do as well.

Not trying to disrespect you Joe, it’s a rough start. But we’re not going 0-3 and it’s not a 90% chance.

Nobody still talks about Brooks and Lynch and the fat loud guy if Favre and Warner didn’t show up for Monday Night Football, Donovan McNabb sat out the NFC Championship or Jerry Rice missed the Super Bowl.

Tired of all the schedule and matchup nonsense. The actual team does not play fantasy football.
