Shame On Buccaneers Officials

July 1st, 2018

Fans abandoned

Joe has waited 2 1/2 days for Buccaneers officials to do the right thing for their suffering fan base, especially the most ardent Tampa Bay supporters.

But it hasn’t happened.

Instead, they opted to hide and let Bucs faithful cope on their own — for no good reason.

A man those same Bucs officials proudly called the face of the franchise, Jameis Winston, got hit with a suspension by the NFL and the league labeled him a sex offender on Thursday afternoon. All fans got in response from the team was a two-sentence, vague and unsigned statement.

Bucs fans deserved better.

Team officials could have opted to be strong, supportive and communicative. They chose weak and silent.

Joel Glazer called Buccaneers fans “our stockholders” following the firing of Jon Gruden in 2009. They’re what we play for — the people in our stadium and the ones that watch on TV,” said the Bucs co-chairman. “That’s what it’s all about: winning and how they feel about the team. If they don’t feel good about the team, then there’s something wrong.”

Well, Mr. Glazer, the stockholders were dealt a devastating kick in the groin last week and lost a lot of positive feelings for the team. The Bucs’ public response to these stockholders? Silence. (Until many of them get a call from a ticket sales representative next week.)

Jason Licht, Dirk Koetter? Where’s your leadership, men? How many times have each of you said, “We love our fans.”

Something from the leadership faces of the Bucs over the past few days would have much better than nothing. If team officials don’t realize that, then, well, that’s pretty darn sad.

Vagamis will be cut. In my opinion, I’ll bet there have been other women coming forward that we haven’t heard about yet… Do you think this was the first time Mr “alpha” tried grabbing him some v’s? Come on folks. He won’t play for us again. Bucs won’t pay him 19 million next year if they don’t have to. Stay tuned as to why management may be quiet…Go Bucs!

  2. Pete I Says:

The Glazer Boys aren’t their father. Buc’s don’t know how to respond and don’t know what to do. They need to decide if the face of their franchise and the PR nightmare that goes with it is a disturbed man who touches women inappropriately, drinks to much and lies about it, or is not that man. Good luck to them, whatever decision its already almost to late to make. Waiting on fall out from sponsors most likely but who knows, leadership at ALL levels has been lacking at OBP for years.

  3. Pete I Says:

If they are hoping this all blows over or that winning will cure this, they may be sadly mistaken. Every game, every broadcast this will be an issue and on some days THE issue.

  4. Hodad Says:

Joe sometimes it’s better to keep it short, and simple. Nothing they can say to make us feel better about this. “Obviously, Joe heartily disagrees with “nothing.” –Joe My feeling is enough has been said already, I’m moving on to football in 3 weeks, you should do the same. Let sleeping dogs lie.

  5. Hodad Says:

What more can be said? It is what it is, I’m moving on to football in 3 weeks, Joe should do the same.

  6. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

I’m sure this is all part of the deal. The statements everyone released were carefully worded and coordinated. The NFL wanted those specific statements going out and probably have made the Bucs agree to stay quiet about it to not allow anything to slip.

  7. Pete I Says:

If the Buc’s remain silent for the next three weeks, neither Joe nor anyone else will be able to move on to football. This story will remain in any event. Better hope women’s groups don’t protest every game.

  8. richbucsfan Says:

Rob, if there were other women that were groped or worse, that would have hit the news by now. We’re in the MeToo days. If the NFL is covering up others, then they are doomed. Hopefully, we won’t hear of any other women involved with JW. A word from the FO would be good I agree.

  9. tnew Says:

The Bucs have needed a go between the Glazers and the GM ever since Malcom Glazer died. Failure to do this has resulted in repetitive failures of the organization as a whole.

  10. Kobe Faker Says:

“Before fans made a difference. Financially the amount the fans spend. Doesnt really effect the owners pockets like they used to. With the guareented over 200 mil per year TV contracts it doesnt matter what the fans say or think. Veiwership and future contracts with media outlets will double with sports betting being legal. We are the Cincinnati Bengals of the south.

Kobe Gurenntees you Licht and Klueless will be back no matter how many wins they get this year….4-12 and these 2 will be back minus smitty”

    Kobe Faker

  11. JJV Says:

You can count on protests, boycotts, and sponsors dropping out as long as Winston remains. It is not going away. Hope the owners are prepared and not under estimating how much.

  12. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

As a FSU grad, huge Bucs fan and former JW supporter/believer I say no. No more. Pull the band aid off. This guy will just continue to disappoint. The peril outweighs the potential and the damage he is causing will be ongoing. Cut him. Sign Foles. Realize you made a mistake to ever allowing yourself to be swindled by his charm and occasional talent. Cut him and move on. Let some other team take on this reclamation project.

  13. Jebb Says:

Our franchise qb will not to be able to speak at schools, show up at advertisers parties, appear on radio or TV shows and will be shunned by most women in the area. This isn’t some defensive back.

  14. RAS Says:

I don’t know why everyone is worried about Protest, and boycotts the Buccaneers have like 5 fans, that number might dwindle down to 3.

The silence from this point on from the NFL, Jameis & Bucs is going to absolutely drive the media nuts….and many fans…

My prediction….you heard it here first….this article is the first of many on this subject.

  16. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Of course the trolls who follow other teams want Winston cut! You think Falcons, Panthers and Saints fans want to face a record setting quarterback for the next 15 years???

Notice 90% of the people wanting him cut are newly created usernames? Why do you think that is?

Fans of other teams trying to keep the Bucs down! The others are Tampa fans who watch or listen to these national reporters and bloggers and let their opinions sway their own.

When Winston agreed to take this bullet for the league (even though he is innocent), he could not have foreseen this much blowback. The league is thanking their lucky stars he agreed to not appeal.

  17. JMan5 Says:

    Marcus was the right one

  18. JMan5 Says:

Bonzai he is not innocent. If you believe that I feel sport for you.

  19. JMan5 Says:

    Sorry*

  20. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

So far as the silence from the Bucs, I’m sure it would feed another 50 articles if they spoke, but really, why should they?

It’s a no win situation. They know Winston was not actually proven to have done this. But if they contradict the league, more time will be added. The same reason Jameis is not speaking.

If you study the statement by the league, it becomes obvious they lied.

For example, if Darby and Banks were not in the car, then it was just Winston and Kate. No witnesses. And yet, the league statement claimed they spoke with witnesses!

If there were witnesses, then Darby and Banks had to be in the car. If they were not, then there are no witnesses! C’mon, man. Why feed such nonsense? Forget about that this was a Bucs-related case. The NFL never wrote that they spoke to witnesses to a specific act. So why assume it? They’re talking about witnesses in their case against No. 3.–Joe

    It’s that simple!

So what the league report conveniently does not tell us is that in the end, it came down to he said, she said. The phone records, gps, and such would not change that. And if there was video evidence, these days it would have leaked by now.

He said. She said. Right in the middle of the MeToo movement.

And yet many Bucs fans prefer to believe someone who they know nothing about except she lies (she claimed to not know who he was, but her statements quoted things he said before their incident). For all anyone knows, she could have made the same accusations against ten other men. How would we know?

  21. IsrBuc Says:

I definately agree and expecting the Glazers to adress this issue properly but we need to get real here- and this is something i have been thinking for a long time – The Glazers are all about PR and putting asses in the seats for the wrong reasons. All the ‘Lovie is back at home’ and JW for FSU fans.. I don’t expect anything from them which is not a cold PR/financial decision.

  22. Oh boy Says:

I was one of those that wanted the Bucs to draft the ‘other qb’. My concerns were accuracy and him staying out of trouble. He started out okay and did stay out of trouble. Foolish me, I plunked down a $100 for a #3 jersey last season. Thanks Jameis!

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

JMan5, do you think I care what you think? You were not even here a week ago.

  24. IsrBuc Says:

btw.. we are always told about the pre draft research and especcialy for the first pick in the draft who’s expected to be the face of the franchise QB. where was the alcohol problem in those researches? how come the weren’t on that?
again- with the G boys it’s all PR. who’s gonna sell more tickets in florida? JW or MM? that was the argument.

  25. Conservative knows Says:

    Bonzai,

If JW was too drunk to remember and you know he’s innocent. Does that mean you’re the mysterious 4th passenger? Having your probation revoked is why you’re holding out going public is reasonable….I suppose.

Who killed JFK and did they recover aliens at Roswell? Can’t wait to read more crazy azzz conspiracy theories about this current situation especially if bigfoot is part of it. you know it wasn’t Winston in the car it was bigfoot.

Great stuff you seriously crazed magnificent bassstard.

  26. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Look for the dreaded “no comment” from the NFL, Bucs, GM, Coaches & Jameis…..and very little from his teammates.

Look for “we are moving on”….”we are focused on the future”….”we are focused on New Orleans”…..

There will be immense pressure from the Media for comments…..but I think there will be very few…if any.

  27. old time buc Says:

  30. Pete I Says:

Joe has plenty of readers who don’t post as much as some, or at all. Posting does not measure how long someone has been here, or how much they care. In fact, how much someone posts does not measure if they really contribute to the topic at hand. Personally, I only post when I think a topic is important. Like a sex offender (Joe’s words) as the face of the franchise.

  31. Buc4life Says:

Are you people saying that Jameis needs to be cut have lost your freaking minds

  32. Pete I Says:

I know nothing about this Kate person but America’s Choir Bo, I am quite familiar with, for all the wrong reasons. Mediocre play, turnovers, bad choices on and off the field. And I know he now lies.

  33. Conservative knows Says:

    Bonzai,

We do know that 3 women accused W of the same thing.

We don’t know how many more there actually is. Which negates your line of thinking but it’s a +3 sum. Nice job.

He said vs She said….starts with a tie score. All JW has done is lose points.
Kate still is where she started but it’s not a tie score. Therefore, the He v she
thing is , no longer relevant or applicable. Continuing to use it is a sign of someone incapable of accepting the fallibility of their own opinion.

Remember what Einstein said “two kinds of people never need to change their opinion, the truly genius. And the truly stupid.”

  34. AlteredEgo Says:

After having their back,Glazers, since day one……it is time for them to sell the team or controlling interest to a real football owner…they have most certainly been bombarded with letters and messages and true to their MO…..they are trying to determine which way the wind blows….
IMO….the tough medicine is for Jameis to take the whole year off…with pay after his suspension and work on his life off and on the field…..he will be a HUGE distraction this year and ever move seconded guess by the talking heads….especially to out of town media who is just waiting to tear him up

TBBF : What is your prediction? This def not the first article. As Kobe said we don’t seem to matter, so it’a a matter of mind over matter. Jameis didn’t mind so he doesn’t matter anymore.

There is a coordinated strategy from all parties to make this go away…..but it will backfire on them…..the vacuum caused by their silence will be filled with conjecture and media frenzy…..they may have to address it at some point.

  36. Roy T. Buford Says:

I’m a little surprised at this article.

When you own a business worth billions, hasty decisions and accompanying announcements should not be made. Maybe they are not sure if they will support Jameis in this other than the minimum–arrange for him to get his therapy. And they likely have to see what that entails. Maybe they want him to lie in the crap for a fews days that Jameis alone made–and fed to all of us. Maybe they are looking to bring in another QB to act as the number two guy and don’t want to say anything until their plan ready to announce. Maybe they want to get a complete of idea of how the community is coming down on this. In that regard, Joe is doing much to help make that clear.

Joe says “Bucs fans deserve better.” Yes, we deserve better than the walking disaster of a human being Joe calls America’s QB (that I think is a sleight to our great land as is), a QB that has lied and deceived and whom the NFL and the masses believe he did exactly as alleged with this woman.

The Bucs delivered a statement right after the news came out. It was telling…and personally, I’d like Winston suck on that one for about a week while the rest of us enjoy a great American holiday.

  37. Crack3rK Says:

Joe, glad you posted this take. The Bucs statement is air. With all the folks touting how great JW3 has been in the community, how you let him go visit a school with this rap on him? The NFL says it’s credible. PR nightmare for the team and such a weak response. So hard to feel good about this team. And man , I was so looking forward to this season.

  38. Dooshlarue Says:

    I agree with Roy.
Lots of parts to this and a lot of different ways to deal with it.
I don’t like JW much anymore, but I wouldn’t want to have to make this decision.

  39. Roy T. Buford Says:

“Team officials could have opted to be strong, supportive and communicative. They chose weak and silent.”

Silence is very effective, strong, and communicative here–and added to their broad statement released Thursday expressing agreement with the NFL and their disappointment in Winston, adds more. Jenna Laine’s comments about this was the best anlytical piece yet that is related to the situation not the football impact.

Apparently speaking based on lies from Winston while heartily giving Winston the benefit of the doubt, Joel Glazer came out and praised how great a person and leader Winston is. He sided with Winston, supporting him publicly, he trusted him yet again, and Winston let those comments stand. Makes me wonder if Winston has a conscience. So, I’m pretty sure Winston is in a communications blackout with the Glazers right now.

There is nothing good to comment on this situation right now. And there is nothing good to say about Winston. Silence is golden.

  40. Marc Says:

Tampa Bay proudly presents, America’s Groper!

  41. Roy T. Buford Says:

@Crack3rk…totally agree with you. Parents would have every right to be livid if their kid came home from school and told them the Winston and the Bucs were at their school today (or were coming). I’d pull the kid out of school, call Action 10 News, and publicly challenge the Principal’s and Bucs’ judgement. Now, I have all the confidence that Winston would never do anything…EVER to the kids…nor would he be allowed to, but with his own doing, he does not deserve to be out in our community touching our kids, teaching our kids, and mentoring them. That is one tiny slice of the problem.

  42. Buc4L Says:

All you people talking about cutting Jameis have officially lost your freaking minds.

  43. Frank Pillow Says:

Jaboo will be starting week 4. They are banking on wins to mitigate the fallout. Too much invested. The are on record as anointing him as a messianic figure to this franchise, city. It’s as simple as that.

  44. csidedave Says:

Based on my conversation with a member rep, I believe the silence is because they have not yet decided what to do about Mr. Winston.

It was clear that they were very interested in what the ticket holders had to say. Managment asked for all feedback.

  45. Pete I Says:

Then Frank they had better be getting those wins, the jury is still out on that, and if the Buc’s don’t get the wins and they then move on from America’s Choir Boy because he isn’t any good, they will look even worse as it will be said; The Bucs support bad conduct off the field but not bad play on the field. They really shouldn’t support either. What a mess,

  46. meh Says:

    Cut him.

  47. Roy T. Buford Says:

@Frank, here is the thing. Wins will make some of the outcry/disgust go away (or at least gloss over it), but it will not fix the PR problem/face-of-the-franchise dilemma, and restore any belief by the Bucs they can trust Winston (off the field) in the future to lock him up for several years at a cost of $100M or more. He got into trouble the very first time he was not supervised. If the Bucs lock him up in another contract sometime next year, that alone has a perception risk, for if he blows that, it shows the Glazers just don’t learn…how many chances does this medicre QB need? Joe and a couple others brought up a great idea of using the franchise tag after next year to allow time to further evaluate him. That’s a great thought. However, if Winston does NOT win, there is no point in doing that anyway. And franchise tag or not, if he is not trusted to be back out in the community with women and kids, that’s a millstone on the organization. So even while Winston is hypothetically out there winning games left and right (something he has yet to do in the NFL), all stinking year long we all have to listen about his transgressions before, during and after every game.

So even if Winston wins this year (pretty clear he will likely be around, though his capacity is TBD), it does not solve the host of problems. This isn’t going away until Winston goes away. And that’s a big thing to consider–is it worth the boter. There are plenty of medicocre (and great) QBs who don’t pull what Winston has. Sure wait a year for one, but longer? No way. For me, win or lose, if Winston is still the QB next year, I will hold season tickets. If he is team captain and/or the face of the franchise, I’ll take time off buying tickets and supporting the team. I have already nixed my monthly payment plan. I don’t have to give up my tix until April. By March, we’ll know if Winston is on the ’19 roster. I can deal with all kinds of crooks, losers, and what not playing in the NFL, as I don’t have to support them. But when acceptance is instituationalized and is endorsed by my team/organization as a whole, I don’t support the instituations.

  48. Jeagan1999 Says:

The only “winners” in this entire mess are the Tennessee Titans, who could have ended up with this debacle in their building….but dodged an enormous bullet by having Mariota fall into their laps.

My belief is the Bucs will try to swing a deal for another young QB (I like Fitz, but he is not the long term answer) sometime between now and training camp, and then cut their losses with Jameis and move on! Sad, because Winston does have talent as a QB, but his immaturity and decision making can’t be overlooked any longer.

  49. csidedave Says:

This is a huge decision for the Glazers and they are probably debated it. I wonder what they really think of Jameis? Have they thought he was a great guy during the past 3 years or did they think he was kind of sketchy before this happened? Is the family split or united about him.

Were they 100% on board when he was drafted or were they more like OK but you better be right about this guy?

  50. csidedave Says:

And the Glazers do plan on significantly raising their charitable giving this year.
They have seen how the investments in the charities have helped the Lightning.

This mess is not going to help them. If they have decided that they are not going to keep him long term, they may make a move now so they can sell the high moral ground. Stay tuned, I have no idea.

  51. JabooBuc Says:

Bonzai- getting the feeling you are a little slow. Once again, the witness’s (the ones that JW referenced in his initial denial statement suggesting she must be confused) proved that JW lied and that he was indeed in the car alone with her.

He obstructed the investigation by providing misinformation while also suggesting she was lying. Once again, if they did not have the goods on him and this was truly a he said/she said situation, why would he ever agree to a plea? Why would you not sue this woman for defamation? He said she was wrong and he had witnesses.

  52. Anonymous Says:

Strong and supportive of who Joe? The NFL commish and the league?

  53. Roy T. Buford Says:

Here are some facts that are probably being mulled. The Bucs need to win “now” for the fan base and clearly the GM and HC need to win. Jameis has a losing record as QB (losses aren’t all his fault of course) and has also arguably not progressed (probably regressed) both on and off the field. Drafting Jameis four years ago drove a divide (based on character questions) among the Bucs fan base. His latest antics only make that divide more pronounced, and are a PR nightmare the Bucs hoped to avoid. Anyone dispute this so far. The Bucs had a stellar defense in 2002, brought in Brad Johnson (a medicre QB at best, but a decent game manager) and won a Super Bowl.

So it is complete garbage in my opinion with those in support of keeping Winston say getting rid of him will set this franchise back for years to come. Brad Johnson was not the franchise QB answer…he was a bridge to get the team winning “now.”

That is a critical question/answer the Glazers are likely asking themselves right now, and I’m betting the GM and staff are on building a decision briefing. No reason to come out and tell anyone anyting right now I think.

  54. Roy T. Buford Says:

^^^^And it may take years to get to the SB with our without Winston, but betting on fools gold will make it all take longer.

  55. mark2001 Says:

You can argue until you are blue in the face. The deal wasn’t done “just for the heck of it”. Signs of support and such? Hogwash. This deal was likely prepared over weeks…months. It is a legal agreement among all parties. And each party is going to do what they promised. No one wants to blow it up and see Jameis go down six instead of three, much less Jameis and the team. And the commish wants to see it quiet down. Why didn’t it happen before the draft? Investigation to be done, agreements of multiple parties to be drawn and signed, this wasn’t as simple as seeing if your i’s were dotted and t’s crossed between two parties.

  56. Roy T. Buford Says:

@CSIdDave…yup…think Winston is on the roster this year but not in a leadership role, not team captain, not out in the public eye. The Bucs are already losing with Jameis, with a ton of crap on top on that he is bringing. Certainly it won’t get worst to lose without Jameis, and without all the crap….which is the worst possible scenario. As I said, even a temporary mediocrew bridge QB can make this go away, along with JW.

  57. Jeagan1999 Says:

I wonder what it would cost to try to pry Joe Flacco loose from the Ravens? They already drafted his eventual replacement, he’s 33 years old, and 2017 was not one of his best seasons. And the Ravens only have around $6mill in cap space (Flacco is due to make around $22mil per season for the next 3 years) But he is a savvy veteran, and did complete over 60% of his passes the last few years. Would Baltimore be willing to deal him for the right price? A cursory look at other teams backups, doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence about raiding another team if Winston does get cut.

  58. Roy T. Buford Says:

I love the “Fans Abandoned” caption under the picture. It is true. But it is Jameis who abanoned all…just hope those closest to him were not bamboozled like the rest of us, for if he did he is now totally alone (deservedly so if he lied to them too), but he will have problems for a long time–much longer than his suspension and this year.

  59. Roy T. Buford Says:

As I have mentioned before, the Glazers, GM, and HC also need to take this off of the players. Don’t force them to be torn between supporting Jameis as their leader or not. So as they mull this over, they may have decided too that it’s improtant to have an internal meeting so they hear it from them…whatever that position is…before a more detailed public statement is made. So many good reasons to be silent right now….

  60. Dooshlarue Says:

    @Joe

Any word from OBP in regards to DB55, Lamarcus, Bonzai and a few others joining JW for the clinical evaluation part of this process?

  61. csidedave Says:

The Bucs called me when I sent a simple email asking to please remove me from auto renewal until I see how things pan out. I wasn’t canceling, just keeping my options open for 2019 since the deadline is coming up soon.

My 3K is a lot to me but peanuts to them. Just think how much more they care about the pewter partners that spend millions and have their names on the walls inside the stadium? If you are Publix or Bank of America or whoever, is it still good business to bring your clients and their families to the stadium?

  62. old time buc Says:

TBBF: Of course they will have to, no two ways about it.
It would be nice if they were straightforward about it and made a decision.

  63. csidedave Says:

Roy T I agree that additional punishment does seem like an option. Maybe Winston’s best chance at this point.

At this point, I don’t see a respected Buc advocate going to bat for him. No Dungy, Gruden, Malcolm, to publicly vouch for him. I don’t even see any national media making a case for him. I have a feeling he is done.

  64. Sandy Says:

Just leave it alone already! Why continue to harp on it? Move on! Football is here in 3 weeks.

  65. stpetebucsfan Says:

While I agree with Joe the Bucs OWE the fans something. I think TBBF also is hitting a very relavant point…vacuums will be filled with ALL manner of speculation good and bad.

Here is a PR tip for the Glazers. When the truth supports you take advantage of it and get out front of the story with a presser revealing that truth.

The truth at minimum is that Jameis disappointed and betrayed the Glazers, Bucs staff, teammates and fans. This has been a nightmare for the Glazers!!! What did they do wrong? Gave an unworthy risk a chance.

So here is the Glazer presser.

“Like our fans we are tremendously disappointed in the actions of Jameis Winston. We realize the seriousness of this situation and it’s the fans who are most important but not the only consideration. This was an unforced error that also quite frankly could have implications on the careers of our coaches and players. But we believe the fans are the most important element…there is no Tampa Bay Bucs without the fans. So we are currently making sure we are getting the best feel of what our fans would like to take place in response to this situation.

We’re not going to rush to judgement on how to ultimately handle this situation.
But the season is rapidly approaching and in fairness to our fans and our GM we are going to make a decision in the next week.”

This give the Glazers one more week of “no real response” and gives them breathing space to make their best decision.

I do not begrudge them this at all. I have my opinions but my decision does not really count. The Glazers are under the gun and not so much financially but existentially. It’s not being overly dramatic to say that this decision COULD impact this franchise in a major way.

IMHO ya just gotta cut your losses and move on. I also believe it would be best for Jameis. Sign with a solid team with an aging QB and back him for a year or two. Gives the entire episode time to disappear.

  66. Not there yet Says:

I agree with this that the glazers and Licht need to come forward. Just think, the Bucs spent 1 million dollars doing a background check on Jameis Winston. They failed to interview Kinsman and her attorney. Obviously they did a poor job scouting him on and off the field Bc Mariota was the best player on and off the field.

I feel bad for Koetter. He wanted Marcus. Sadly it’ll cost koetter his job this year.

Just think, the glazers standing by him, they wont get a quality coach and gm that’s will want Jameis Winston.

  70. Dapostman Says:

Big Ben Bonehead changed and survived

    Tiger Woods changed and survived

Jameis Winston if he changes he will survive

Americans are a forgiving people. If JW is contrite and humble and works hard and stays out of trouble and WINS he will also survive.

Looks at Tiger Woods. The crowds follow Tiger in every tournament he plays in. The crowds roar when Tiger is in the mix and playing well. The crowds want Tiger to do well. Same will be with JW. The script has been written now it’s up to JW to follow it.

  71. Joe Says:

Joe doesn’t follow golf at all and is not hip to everything Tiger Woods did. Wasn’t aware he violated s woman. Do know he fooled around on his wife with a pancake waitress. Not sure that’s even close to Big Ben or Jameis.

  72. old time buc Says:

T-Rex, I think you have crossed the line with that last comment, leave his family out of it. Criticize him all you want to, but just him not his family.

  73. Pete I Says:

Huge difference is that both Big ben and Tiger were actually good at what they do before they were schmucks. America’s Choir Boy wasn’t and isn’t.

  74. Buccfan37 Says:

“Christ you know it ain’t easy, you know how hard it can be, the way things are going, they’re going to crucify me.”

  75. stpetebucsfan Says:

LMAO For about half our fan base Jameis Winston is the Teflon jock.

Don’t know if he could get away with shooting someone on 5th Ave though.

  76. JMan5 Says:

Actually Bonzai I was but sometimes name get put in a cooler. Still it’s ok you be who you really are.

  77. Couch Fan Says:

The Glazers owe nothing to anyone. The big mouth holier than thou boys will think whatever they want anyways. Glazers and Jameis should stay quiet, do his time and concentrate on football. Plus it would just be funny to see watch these same people heads explode while pretending they know every fact there is to know while not knowing. LMAO

  78. jmarkbuc Says:

To those who say releasing Winston will set the franchise for years, I ask you isn’t it entirely possible that retaining him might just set us back further?

His play on the field isn’t stellar by any stretch, and now we wait (setting us back), to see if he can play and keep his nose clean? The longer we wait to see if he is going to pan out as a player and behave as a decent human being is time wasted (setting us back) even further.

  79. Pickgrin Says:

Mostly just a bunch of holier-than-thou hypocrites who rarely if ever commented on JBF before up in here lately. Doing their best (without all the facts) to run Winston out of town now that a 3 game suspension has been announced.

Just like before the 2015 draft – there is once again all this talk and prognostication by Winston dislikers of women’s group protests and sponsors withholding their monetary support because of JW’s presence on the team – and its all a bunch of BS. Wishful thinking by the haters. Not one iota of that happened before and it won’t be happening in the future either.

Get over yourselves Winston haters. You aren’t going to dictate nor even influence what this team does for the best interest of the franchise with your loud, vocal minority style judgments and character assassinating “opinions” about a man you don’t know and have never spent 1 minute talking to.

Many of you posting such negative and judgmental comments about Jameis here in the last 10 days – should go look at yourselves in the mirror right now and just be thankful that the worst decision(s) you ever made did not get released TMZ style for the world to judge you by…

  80. BringBucsBack Says:

Bucfan37- “The Ballad of John & Yoko”; takes me back…good on ya, mate!

Whatever the Bucs’ next public statement is, it will probably not include details about their own investigation, as that much foresite seems to be beyond this organization. Even if they were so perceptive, I’m sure the NFL “plea-bargain” would demand silence about it. Since they have so much invested in J-miss, why cut corners by not conducting your own investigation?

  81. Wausa Says:

I don’t know why we have idiotic fans that keep saying the Bucs will cut Jameis.

  82. Donuts Says:

I am just waiting for the BSPN highlights of Mr K and team JBF tag teaming Licht and Winston at their press conferences.

Will Mr. K jump from the top rope or put Licht in the camel clutch???

  83. lurker Says:

wow, so joe is more harsh of the glazers than winston?

  84. gambelero Says:

No one takes any responsibility anymore. People blame everyone else but themselves. The Glazers and One Buc have been silent because we haven’t told them what to say. We should have had a thread about this. We did do a “Will the Bucs Have America’s Back” thread, but we haven’t done a “what should Bucs ownership/management/coaches do” thread. It’s Joes’ fault, but it’s also my fault and St. Pete, Pickgrin, Lord, MJohnson, Nut and the other serious posters’ fault.

I’ve been buried in the drudgery of my job, grading. You guys think iron working, coal mining and ditch digging in 90 degree Florida heat are hard. Try grading 30 plus MBA case assignments every week for five weeks.

So, here’s my take on what One Buc should say:

In an incident that occurred several years ago, one of our players committed a very serious and deplorable act. It was not a crime and no charges were filed, but it was an assault against our morals and there was a human victim, an Uber driver subjected to the whim of a powerful man who felt he could touch her, grope her without her permission.

The NFL found her accusation credible and suspended our player, Jameis Winston, for three games. He has issued an apology to her and will accept the three game suspension.

Jameis Winston also let down his teammates, his coaches, our organization and most critically, our fans. In addition to the NFL suspension, he will be suspended for the second half of the first three preseason games and the entire fourth preseason game. He will not be allowed to practice with his teammates except during regularly scheduled practice sessions, though he can work out with certain position groups (wide receivers, tight ends and running backs) on his own time at offsite facilities.

Though we are disappointed, very disappointed in Jameis Winston’s actions in March, 2016. We note that he has quit drinking alcohol, gotten engaged and will soon be a father, sponsored free camps for kids and participated in numerous community events in which he gave of his time and energy without compensation. With the exception of this one transgression, for which he has been severely punished, Jameis Winston has been a model employee, a model teammate and a model citizen of our Tampa Bay community.

Thus, we do not believe he is unredeemable. We believe that having paid a heavy price for his misbehavior, he will, aided by his fiancee and his family, move forward in both his personal and professional life.

The Buc’s Organization looks forward to doing that together, as a team, as a family.

  85. jmarkbuc Says:

    Wow

Suspension for second half of pre season games (in which he wouldn’t play if there was no suspension), and suspended for 4th pre season game ( in which he wouldn’t play if there was no suspension)

    Pretty stiff penalty…

    What a Joke.

  86. gambelero Says:

Can’t get one past you, Jmark. The whole thing is indeed–a joke.

The thing about the Bucs not being able to put up a statement until we posters on JBF tell them what to say–well that was joke too.

I’m not a big fan of the patently ridiculous farce, though, so I sprinkled some unbovine-feces stuff in there.

  87. Dennis Yauger Says:

They are not cutting Jamies. If you know that to be true what benefit does it do for the Glazers to give a press conference. All of the people in Tampa with a messiah complex were going to kill them for defending any move to keep Jamies. As far as you people still talking about Mariota , you just need to stop. The guy is mediocre at best, also turns it over, and has been no better then Winston on the field. It is not like they passed on a HoF qb.

  88. BigMacAttack Says:

Well it’s their team and they can address on their terms. It’s not like we didn’t see this coming. How long has it Bee hanging out there? We knew most of the details for quite awhile and now that he gets suspended, the sky is falling. AYFKM? What can the Glazers or team officials say to make it better? Make it go away? Nothing, because the fans are divided and whatever you say is wrong. Get over it. The Glazers are good people. Give them a break, Joey. 😂

  89. Pruritus Ani Says:

KInd of a PR disaster when the NFL labels the face of your franchise as a sex offender. What can you really say? How do you respond to that? The only thing missing is a wanted poster. As others have pointed out, they have a lot of money invested so they are kind of stuck with him right now.

The real PR problem will be if he actually starts winning and starts getting positive attention. If you think the MeToo# people are vocal now, just wait. Even winning will not be enjoyable…

The only way out will be if he continues to be erratic in his play and a distraction for the team/franchise, they can cut him.

  90. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Joe have I been banned or something?

  91. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

BigMack they have to move on. He it toxic from a PR standpoint. He lied to the team, the league, and the fans with a story to mislead investigators. The Bucs cannot trust him. Licht will lose his job over this as well. His actions will have a huge ripple affect on a number of people and the franchise as a whole. It must be done though.

  92. JameisNOT Says:

Silence is deadly and will be for this pathological liar who sees women as second class citizens. He needs to be baker acted by his family.

  93. Fire Lichtt Says:

All this was targeted to be handled after the draft and before preseason. The Vea pick was brutal instead of Derwin James. Nobody talking about that now. All the heat is on Famous Jameis while the fire Licht camp is in the cooler.
