Replacing Kendell Beckwith

July 29th, 2018

Shining in practice.

Yesterday, Kendell Beckwith told Joe the Bucs are playing it too safe with him. Beckwith, who fractured his ankle in a car wreck this spring, had surgery on it and has yet to take a snap in training camp.

While it is better for the versatile Beckwith to heal quickly — he said he could practice right now if the Bucs would let him — it is a good thing the Bucs are deep at linebacker.

And it is apparently a good thing that the linebacker formerly known as Adarius Glanton is practicing like a wild man. Now known as Adarius Taylor, Bucs coach Dirk Koetter raved about how Taylor is blowing up in the very early stages of training camp.

“Really well,” Koetter said of Taylor. “The year I was coordinator a few years ago Adarius came. We got him during the season as a scout team linebacker and I used to be screaming at him every day because he wasn’t giving the look I wanted. He was trying to tell me he came from Carolina and he was trying to tell me, ‘Coach, that’s not how Carolina plays it.’ Well that’s how I want you to play it.

“The evolution of Adarius now, he’s one of our best special teams players. He can play all three linebacker spots. Right now he’s working with the first unit as a SAM linebacker. He’s the backup – he’s the first guy in everything else. Just a real enjoyable guy and a tough, versatile football player. Versatility at any position helps, and he’s got it.”

And we all know Koetter loves versatile players. He has his offensive linemen cross-train and apparently Koetter is good with Brentson Buckner also cross-training his defensive linemen.

So if Taylor is versatile, that’s right up Koetter’s alley.

“Taylor showed his flexibility at the end of the 2016 season, filling in as an emergency long snapper despite a broken finger and snapping on the winning extra point in a 17-16 win against the Panthers.’

Love hearing good things, but I hope it’s not a bunch of hot air. Didn’t Doug Martin look great in training camp the last couple years?
adarius Taylor lol. Go from a name only bucs fans know, to a name nobody knows. Hopefully our linebackers will be healthy enough that nobody will be saying Adarius Taylor anyway. Or at least saying Adarius glan-Taylor…

  3. TheBucsAnthem Says:

why did he change his last name?

  4. DBS Says:

To honor his father who passed away when he was 9. Glanton was his mothers name.

    @thebucsanthem

In honor of his father I believe.

    Now, tough talk!

If he is really blowing up like this,

we might honestly need, not want, but NEED to let Kwon sign somewhere else for 10 million per year. He will want, and justly do, a 5 year, 50 million contract.

    Sadly, we can’t afford that.

Slide Beckwith into the middle and let Adarius take over at SAM.

I love Kwon as much as anybody.

But we need to be prudent next offseason.

Kwon isn’t going anywhere he’s too young and to vocal. Glanton is not in the same area code as any of the starters. Here’s a backup not a guy who will replace anyone. LD is the oldest of anyone is going to be replaced it should be the oldest. Kwon isn’t going to command huge salary there’s no reason to talk about cutting him especially over training camp fluff we hear everything year right before a crappy season
