One Of The Best Tight Ends

July 31st, 2018

Where is he ranked?

Yeah, Joe has written the Bucs are loaded at wide receiver. Maybe the deepest in the NFL, which is hard to fathom given this franchise’s allergies to passing until recent years.

In particular, the Bucs are deep, very deep at tight end. Cam Brate has been hosed out of Pro Bowls and O.J. Howard has Pro Bowl-level talent.

Shockingly, even Joe can agree on one thing with the PFF tribe, which rates Brate among the NFL’s best, types Sam Monson.

Brate burst on the scene in 2016 with the Buccaneers and even though they drafted O.J. Howard the following offseason, that just freed Brate up to be a receiving weapon while Howard did the dirty work blocking in-line. Brate saw just five fewer targets in 2017 than he did the year before, though his catch rate was down (73 percent to 66 percent) and his production numbers across the board dipped. He may never kick on from that impressive breakout season, but he has proven to be an effective receiver.

The common belief in the NFL is that Bucs coach Dirk Koetter likes tight ends. He’s not the only one.

It seems America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, also likes tight ends. Wherever Jameis has played from college to the NFL he has always had good fortune throwing to a tight end, whether that was Nick O’Leary at Florida State or Brate or Howard with the Bucs.

So Brate is No. 7 in the NFL for tight ends? Might be a tad low but Joe believes that’s fair.

Screw the yards, gimme the touchdowns

  2. Brion Says:

Think I’ve hear Joe say we have a potential TE stud on the practice squad as well last few years, right? Cannot remember the name tho…

  3. Jeffbuc Says:

we should just trade our tight ends for defense. Because we dont have a quarterback to throw it to them. Cameron Brate would be all pro with another quarterback. Instead he is stuck with jameis crableg stealing women groping no criminal charges winston. Are whole offense sucks until we get rid of the cancer number 3. He lied to me I can’t believe he lied to me I hope he sucks this year so I can tell all the bucs jameis fans I told you so. He has good stats but they are inflated by prevent defense. Every team plays prevent against jameis because they know he will throw for a lot of yards in prevent so they do it to help his stats. He sucks the bucs suck 2-14 at best. Just trying to sum it up for the haters to save them time. Because we already know what they will say. So if I say it first they will have nothing to say.

  4. 77bucfan Says:

I’ve been a bucs fan my whole life, needless to say since they became a franchise. I am so sick of reading you Fairweather fans bitch and moan about everything from our QB to what kool-aid everyone drinks. It’s not about the QB it’s about pride in your team, regardless of how one player does or how bad of a record they have. If you can’t understand that go root for a curling team.

  5. Onetrickpony Says:

Jeffbuc, why not tell us how you really feel ? 🙂

  6. Godeep66 Says:

@jeffbuc: you left out many other negatives but at least you are starting to admit. That is the first step in man crush recovery. The Bucs will totally rebuild and draft a QB as the number one pick in the draft. Hoping it’s Will Grier. Let’s go Bucs!!!!!

  7. Buc believer Says:

Joe for someone who has such a dislike for the PFF tribe (I believe I have heard you say the y are trained orangutans but if I’m wrong forgive me) you sure do quote them or reference them a lot.

  8. DB55 Says:

Brate totally got hosed in 2016, if I’m not mistaken he led the league/TEs in TDs that year. I just hope Koetter can draw up a new play for Brate bc the seam route in the rz is going to get him hurt. Safeties were sitting on that route last year.

But I must say our most underrated TE has to be Alan Cross. This kid does all the dirty work and he has great hands. Anytime he’s in the game good things happen.

  9. SoFloBuc Says:

    @jeffbuc: “no criminal charges”

  10. Godeep66 Says:

Just caught word that the Eagles are looking to trade Nick Foles. Go get him Bucs. Trade JW for him. Let’s go Bucs!!!

  11. Destinjohnny Says:

Imagine watching all this extreme talent with a top 5 QB,running Game and an above average offensive line
We have never had that in tampa

  12. ndog Says:

Goddeep66 I know you probably cant this comprehend this but JW had a better completion %, more yards per throw and was asked to throw the ball 20 times more a game than Foles was in his games last year. You see you people just see wins and think wow the QB must be better cause his team is winning.

In fact last year vs the Raiders Foles had a 50% comp% and threw for only 163 yards with a interception and no TD’s, yet the Eagles won.

Where as vs the much much better Falcons last year Jameis had a 77% comp %, threw for 299 yards with 3 TD’s and zero picks yet the Bucs lost. Please oh please tell us all how Foles is a much better QB that we should trade should trade Jameis for.

It is a TEAM that must all do their jobs to a certain extent for the TEAM to win. You don’t have to be great everywhere BUT you cannot be horrible is some areas (defense, kicking, running game) and win. But again that is probably to much for you to take in considering you think Nick Foles is the be all end all of QB’s.

  13. 813bucboi Says:

i hope dirk uses a ton of 2 TE sets this year…..but knowing dirk, he’ll run sims between the tackles of 1st and second down….shocker…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  14. tnew Says:

Lets just keep OJ on the field in the red zone on passing downs. Go watch the tape and watch how many times he was pulled in the situation. Gave me flashbacks of Gruden explaining how Bryant and Galloway couldn’t be on the field at the same time because they were both X’s.

  15. El_Buc941 Says:

Jeffbuc and Godeep66 y’all apparently have been Bucs fans for long huh..I been a Bucs fan since I was (2000) and I will never EVER wish or even say jokingly I hope this team sucks. I don’t care who the QB is I’m behind him 100%. Now according to y’all to baffoons we owe other teams the gratitude of makingjameis look good.lmfao.

  16. Godeep66 Says:

@ndog: You are telling me that I can’t comprehend… Did you read what you wrote? I most certainly cannot comprehend whatever you were trying to type out: “cant this comprehend this but”. HUH? Foles does not put his TEAM in a bad spot by handing the game to them in the first half with stupid turnovers. It is demoralizing for the defense of unit to have to go out on the field after a turnover

  17. Godeep66 Says:

@elbuc: you are wrong again. I have been a fan since 1979. Now get out of your pajamas and out of your parents guest room and go get a job. Unemployment is at an all time low and I hear their are 1.6 million available jobs in this country.

  18. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Jeffbuc please oh please hold your breath until they release Jameis. You are truly a re re up here crying he lied to you! Taking it so personal. That truly is a female trait you got going there. Only a woman gets that upset when a man lies to her. Men we might get a little po’d but then we get over it and keep it movin. You remind me of some of the clowns up here who got so upset about Lovie Smith.

Goddeep66 there’s a reason Foles was a back up. Last time Jameis faced the Eagles hey tore them up. You clowns who place the whole loss on his shoulders but won’t credit him when we win are incredible. Be has improved in almost every aspect but not good enough for you all. I guarantee if you all stepped into the job he did, YOU would expect credit for the improvements you’ve made, but not him. By the way ndog made perfect sense, you need to improve your or get some reading comprehension skills cuz!
