Hargreaves: Injury Is Minor

Details injury to Joe

What is it about Bucs corners getting their legs slashed?

Last training camp, which was captured on “Hard Knocks,” Brent Grimes went down when his leg was gashed by a teammate’s cleats on Aug. 9. The injury scared a lot of people at practice that day. “Hard Knocks” even captured the deep concern Miko had for her husband.

(When Grimes went down, many Bucs types nearly had a stroke.)

Nearly a year later, the same injury felled another Bucs corner, Vernon Hargreaves.

Joe caught up with Hargreaves as he walked back to One Buc Palace after practice in the indoor facility yesterday. Joe asked about his injury and Hargreaves was beaming with confidence saying it’s just a minor flesh wound.

“About six stitches,” Hargreaves claimed was needed to close his wound, which he said was a slice of a shin. “I got kicked.”

As for football performance, Hargreaves was nothing if not confident both with his team and himself.

“Yeah, everybody is making progress,” Hargreaves said. “As a team we are making progress. We are heading down the right path. Me too! I am getting better every day.”

Joe sure hopes Hargreaves can return to form. He wasn’t awful at all as a rookie as quarterbacks fired on him time and again because they were smart enough not to test Grimes. Remember, the Bucs won nine games and narrowly missed the playoffs with Hargreaves starting as a rookie.

What happened to him last year is a mystery but Joe has made his firm suspicions well-known to regular readers of this here website.

If Hargraves can bounce back to what he was as a rookie, or better, it would be a huge boost to the defense, especially in the team’s time of need while America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, serves his three-game sentence.

This must be the positive “real fan” point of view bc if memory serve me correctly the Bucs would have gotten to the playoffs (in a agame where JW had given us the lead for most of the game) if Amari Cooper hadn’t absolutely torched VH3 for a career high 173 yards and 1 TD in 12 catches. It was probably Derek Carr’s career high too with 500+ yards and 4 TDS.

Of course, Conte didn’t help any. I’m not sure what Conte’s understanding of the safety position is but it’s not getting burnt and run over on every play.

I’m just glad everyone is making progress and getting better everyday.

Bucs would have won that game had Hey Jude not gotten called for holding on fourth down late in the fourth quarter.

DB55 is spot on as just like in the SEC the#1 WR torched hargreaves ala cooper and Carr had his all time best game, didnt janakowski miss abunch of fgs or game wouldnt have been close?

    @ db55

Actually the bucs were trailing 17-10 going into the 4th qtr of that game and jameis being the 4th best qb rated in the 4th qtr in the past 20 years led the bucs on two touchdown drives to take the lead 24-17 with a little over 3 minutes to play. But lets cut the qb.

does he still have super skinny and weak arms?

Grimes has the right to avoid contact. He’s an elite CB.

VHIII is the son of a LB coach!

And he is just a young guy trying to stick around in the NFL past 4 years!

He needs to start hitting ppl if he wants to stay in the NFL!!

Hey Vernon, you aint Grimes bro! Start hitting or hit the road!

    A “Minor” injury…..

VHIII has to prove he’s not a “Minor” talent.
