Great Leadership Moment From Gerald McCoy

May 24th, 2018

Impressive as practice closed today

The Buccaneers were ordered to run sprints after practice today on the steaming hot practice fields of One Buc Palace.

There was a taste of summer swelter in the air and, frankly, Joe can’t remember the team running sprints after an OTA practice under Dirk Koetter.

Anyway, as the rotating gasser sessions were about to start, Gerald McCoy almost frantically barked and pointed at teammates to have their toes behind the line and not to start until the whistle blew. The message was clear: get the most out of the sprint and treat it as a game situation.

None of that felt scripted from McCoy. The vibe Joe got was that McCoy just wanted the team to simulate a fourth-quarter feel, when your mind and body are tired but you have to stay laser focused.

We all remember what happened with 45 seconds remaining at Carolina last season on Christmas Eve, a head-shaking 4th-and-3 play for the Panthers with the Bucs leading. Thanks for nothing, Chris Baker!

Yes, today’s sprinting order could have come from coaches, but that’s not what Joe saw or heard at all.

Joe’s confident it came from McCoy’s brain and heart.

Great May sign. Great May moment.

Remembering Coach Schiano… “TOES ON THE LINE!”

  2. Roy T. Buford Says:

It’s good to hear that in May, and not about McCoy saying how much his knees hurt. Never been a McCoy critic. I like his play, I like the man. But he’s not been a leader other than by caring, and leading by example. He does seem to lack the vocal charisma from what I’ve seen and heard. Two of three can be bad in this business. A team captain has to have all three. A fourth (Jameis): don’t be a BS artist.

  3. DB55 Says:

We all remember what happened with 45 seconds remaining at Carolina last season on Christmas Eve,
Sure do! McIceCream fell on the ground (barely blocked) and allowed cam to run for the winning TD right over his gap. Pathetic! He’s got zero run to talk.

If McIceCream wanted to simulate a fourth qrt I’m surprised he didn’t tell everyone to run and hide until the whistle blew. Paper champ! #TheyCallHimButMan

Guaranteed McCoy has more heart than this dude above me!

    9 years later….

  7. Chris K Says:

This article is Donkey viagra! You Donkeys know who you are! Enjoy yourselves. Lol..

  8. Brad Says:

Did he finish the sprint? Because we all know he hasn’t finished games or even plays in the fourth quarter.

  9. Brad Says:

In other news… has the Bucs D-Line ranked #8 in the league…gotta see it to believe it.

  10. John B Says:

Would love to see some of that Buckner grit come thru GMC, it’s really the only part of his game that is missing…remove the up and down emotions and focus on each play like its your last…

  11. AlteredEgo Says:

McCoy is a very very good player….hopefully he’ll have enough supporting cast to show….and others will too….

  12. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    So I’m banned? For what?

  13. Pickgrin Says:

DB – you are so full of it.

I just went back and watched that last 2 minutes at the end of the Carolina game.

Carolina had a 4th and 3 at the 5 yard line. Baker jumps off sides (after McCoy just told everyone in the huddle “watch the hard count and don’t jump offsides”) – making it 4th and a foot. Next play was a run off tackle to the left that barely made the foot to gain. 1st and goal at the 2 yard line

Then Cam takes the snap in shotgun on an obvious designed run – fumbles the ball but it bounces right back into his arms as he’s lunging forward to the rt side of Center. Yes it was McCoys gap – but McCoy was double teamed at the snap by the RG and RT and pushed inside and back (did not fall down) by the 2 OLinemen. Gholston’s had only the TE blocking him initially, then the LG who had pulled, came over to the rt side in front of Cam and along with the TE cleaned Gholston out of the play. TD.

The play to stuff Cam if it was to be made – was up to your boy LD54 – but he was late filling that hole and the pulling Guard already had forward momentum and just bulldozed a path for Cam into the end zone.

More of a good play design + good execution by the Panthers than anything on that play.

So that’s what actually happened – but reality doesn’t fit your anti GMC narrative does it?

  14. blake_bucsfan Says:

I just wish McCoy would focus on himself instead of trying to be some kind of rah rah leader.

  15. Destinjohnny Says:

93 has made millions but I’m still bummed for him that he basically wasted his career playing here

  16. DB55 Says:

    Yes it was McCoys gap
Case closed! 96 mil man can’t make a play when it counts. EVER!

I might have gotten confused about the blocking from one of the other 3 games when he gave up the game winning TD up his gap.

Hey but he made 6 consecutive pb more pb than games won. Lololol.

  17. Lamarcus Says:

Season starts he will get quiet again……and play victim

GMC leadership is a headline???? Wow.

  18. DB55 Says:

This is what true leaders and winners say:

Vasilevskiy on his Vezina nomination: “I’m very appreciative but at the end of the day it’s better to win the Stanley Cup than to win personal trophies. But it’s going to be fun to be in Vegas André hanging out with the best players in the world.”

  19. Lamarcus Says:

I think that tackling dummy has more of an effect than GMC on game day. Don’t worry GMC will disappear when season kicks off.

  20. BucEmUp Says:

Brad, still with the worst DC in all of football. They will finish bottom five if the corners are not allowed to press

  21. DanBucsFan Says:

Great sign!!! And no matter what the haters say, it’s early, BUT THIS IS WHAT IS NEEDED. SO FAR SO GOOD

  22. Buc4life Says:

Sprints after practice? Wasn’t it last spring when we had joint practices with Jacksonville that our players were laughing at the Jaguars for running sprints, calling them high schoolers? Maybe our coavhes8have learned to have our players in top shape in this heat for the 4th quarters of games. Maybe they want to keep their jobs. Maybe they are building a winning team. Let’s hope so!

  23. SB Says:

First off I am Glad that baker made that play. People have been biotching enough about us winning the Saints game and costing us draft spots. Imagine if we won the Panthers game too.
    Secondly…..DB, smh.

  24. Stanglassman Says:

Bucs4life-Everytime you write that the Bucs were laughing at the Jags for doing sprints after practice (and you’ve made this claim a bunch of times). I’ve searched for any proof of this to no avail. Can you point me to where you’ve got read this?
I do remember the Bucs doing sprints after ota practice last year but I think they do that every year under Koetter.

  25. Capt.Tim Says:

    Geez Joe,
You got rid of One P.O.S.
How soon til you get rid of DB55? Hes just another troll, and even bigger POS.

  26. gotbbucs Says:

Who gives a sh!t? They’ll run sprints again at some point and somebody else will say the same thing, but won’t get the joebucsfan shout-out.

Did you happen to look around and spot all the eye rolling that was probably going on down the line when he said this? McCoy knows there are legit alpha dogs in the huddle with him now and he wants to make sure they know that he thinks he’s the boss.

I would honestly forget how much I dislike McCoy if this damn website didn’t make it it’s lifes mission to let us all know he’s still there trying to be a leader. Pfft…

  27. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

    Capt Pansy Arse

So basically anyone with a valid opinion you disagree with is a POS. You sir are the true POS. don’t knock DB because he has standards. You are free to support a career loser who plays with no heart and has never won a single meaningful game in his career. Keep the bar high db dint mind these low standard losers.

  28. Capt.Tim Says:

I dont even read hos post. Its the same same stupid patern.
Pos DB55 pist some stupid garbage about McCoy.
Lures someone into arguing with, proving him wrong. Then Pos Db55 just post some more BS.
    Typical troll. Nothing more.

Its a waste of space, that could be used by intelligent posters. Trolls dont draw traffic. They just waste time and patience of your readers.

And The Other POS is back under an alias. Can we see his alias banned also

  29. Capt.Tim Says:

    “His”*, “post”*
    Sorry, too much happy hour.

  30. Lamarcus Says:

Capt Tim is sooooo sensitive. Hypersensitive

  31. SCBucsFan Says:

I just don’t why a Buc fan would waste so much time complaining. We are all aware of their record. Then again I can’t imagine being banned and making a second name up to return to troll. Talk about having no life.

    Hey there joe et all!

First time poster, long time lurker.

Born and raised a chiefs fan in ’85 (i’m from kansas, and my middle name is KaCey)
Had enough as an Eight year old boy with the Chiefs choking in the playoffs with HOF’ers at TONS of positions, and decided i’d go against the grain and root for the worst team in the league. That way when they won, it felt like something greater (twisted outlook for an 8 year old i know, i never grew out of it either)
My choice came down to two teams.
The Patriots or The Buccaneers. I believe the season was the 94 season. (Last year of cream-cicles?) At the time, i played a ton of TECMO SUPER BOWL and the pats and bucs were the worst.

Bucs won my heart. I’ve been a die-hard ever since. I visit this site probably about 10 times a day, and read most every comment.

I understand you have a business to run Joe, but with all due respect i feel as though (unless i’m missing something) that you have banned some DIEHARD fans, for speaking their mind. There’s already an assault on the sport of football itself with all the rule changes and the touchy feely overly PC crowd screwing stuff up. To be clear, Joe primarily bans readers for attacking Joe in appropriately (Joe has no time to babysit comments that attack Joe’s credibility or that misrepresent Joe’s takes.) That has nothing to do with “PC.” Joe also bans readers for malicious commentary. Ultimately in this great country, it is JOE who is responsible for every word typed on this site, not the commenter.–Joe

    Although many didnt agree,

I’m a pewter report CONVERT, because joe was bringing the JUICE on a daily.

I’m astonished as a supposed DIE HARD FAN, that joe is willing to paint a ROSY picture at the slightest sign of improvement in players mentality and coaches ability to finally start to understand a coaches job. This is a classic misrepresentation of the facts. Joe wrote about 1 moment in this McCoy post, a 10-second picture of time. Joe writes about what stands out to Joe, positive or negative. You don’t like that kind of reporting, then Joe can’t help you. Joe simply does not paint “ROSY” pictures like you are representing. -Joe

and what has happened over the past many years?
I DARE ANYONE to go check out other teams PRESS and websites
    Thorough, intelligent, CRITICAL reporting.
All Joe can say on this is that you’re just not paying attention to what’s written here. –Joe

Theres a difference between writing an article stating that you have little faith in BUCS coaches developing a DB, and say writing an article SHOWING BREAKDOWNS OF DIFFERENT PLAYS IN GAME FOOTAGE
    to help argue your point.
Joe really needs no assistance arguing this point. The Bucs’ brass made the point themselves when they drafted two rookie corners in Round 2, despite having Vernon Hargreaves and Ryan Smith. –Joe
/rant over my hands are tired

  37. TakeYourVitaMen Says:

I’m sorry if i offended you Joe, this article just left a bad taste in my mouth.

I’ve seen better heart soul and leadership in highschool than i’ve seen out of our number 3 draft pick over the years.

McCoy is NOT a bad player, when he TRIES.

  38. unbelievable Says:

It was just 1 guy who got banned (and he’s already back under a different name).

And FYI he got banned for accusing Bucs players of diddling little boys, on top of some pretty low class comments regarding Tony Dungys son committing suicide. It had nothing to do with him writing cancer93 seven hundred times a day.

  39. Capt. Tim Says:

Can you imagine what kind of person it takes, to be one of these trolls?
Everytime I think about them- I cant stop laughing”
    Just imagine
“ Good morning, Tmaxipad. What are your plans for today?”
“ Good Morning Mommy. Thought I would Monitor a website today. Everytime they post a new article- Im going to pist in the comments that “Gerald McCoy sucks! Wont that be great!!”
“ Just over and over and over. Gerald McCoy sucks!!”
“Why, Tmaxipad?. Do you Know This Mr. McCoy?”
“ No mommy. Hes some kind of football player!’
“Then why do you spend every day writing he sucks? That doesnt make sense?”
“ But its fun Mommy! Sometimes people argue with me!! Plus I have two other guys, who write “mcCoy sucks too!!, Its that hilarious? Im going to do it every day! It will be my job- ‘except no one pays me!! Samething- every pist, over and over!!! Isnt it funny mommy??”

“Tmaxipad, get dressed, or you’ll be late for your therapy.”

Everyday. Every Post. The same thing. Over and over. And over.
Lol! What kinda wack job does that?

  40. German Buc Says:

If it takes all of that to deliver a “Great Leadership Moment”, I am pretty sure I know the core problem of my Bucs…

  41. Steven007 Says:

Unbelievable, I’m late to this thread obviously but thanks for setting the record straight.

  42. Bucsfanman Says:

I love how you always point to the same play DB55 and place the sole blame on #93. You’ve got LBs out of position, a DE being pancaked by a TE, your other DE standing there, half your secondary on the ground, and yet somehow it’s the DT’s fault.
There are better plays to display your blatant dislike. Selective reasoning can work two ways FYI. That play was a TEAM fail. And incidentally, never should’ve happened to begin with thanks to stupid penalties.
But yes it’s GMC’s fault alone for 5-11! I truly hope that we can put this to rest this season. Some of these posts, mine included, are becoming repetitive.

  43. Bobby Says: just ranked Gerald McCoy the number 2 defensive tackle in the league right behind Aaron Donald but what do they know?? Obviously DB55 knows more than the experts. I’ve never seen someone so clueless take such pride in their ignorance. That’s a special gift…

  44. Reality_43 Says:

Article showing a little of what we have all been hoping for from GMC followed by 90% gibberish.

Man it’s a slow month of May.

No other social media site out their has a select 5 or 6 guys that hate on 1 person as much as the GMC haters on this site.

Everyone just needs to look forward to/enjoy their Memorial Day weekend and be THANKFUL for people who have fought for the freedoms of running our mouths on a website!!

  45. TakeYourVitaMen Says:

    @ unbelievable

    I missed all that.
    That is deplorable behavior.
Its quality posts from posters i have not seen in awhile that I miss.
tmaxx can eat a lamp post.

    My apologies to joe.
