“It Is Awesome To Have That Kind Of Respect”

May 25th, 2018

Thanks teammate for the love.

It seems Mike Evans has been on a crusade of late.

Evans, who is a true No. 1 receiver in the NFL and one can likely only use one hand to count the number of receivers who may be better than he is, is telling everyone who will listen about the skillset of fellow Bucs wide receiver Chris Godwin.

In fact, to hear Evans talk of Godwin, he’s going to blow up this season and make quite a few teams pay for shading too much coverage on DeSean Jackson and Evans.

The fifth-year Bucs receiver has even gone on record as saying Godwin is a No. 1 receiver in the NFL, just that defenses haven’t figured that out yet.

So this week after an underwear football practice, Joe asked Godwin what it meant to him to hear Evans speak so highly of him.

“Honestly, it means a lot coming from Mike who has had as much success as he has had in such a short period of time,” Godwin said, clearly humbled by Evans’ words. “He’s a top-five receiver in this league. For him to have that much respect for a guy like me, it is awesome to have that kind of respect from your peers.”

This is the thing that so many folks like about Godwin. He doesn’t seek out attention. He doesn’t crave the spotlight. He’s just as happy about a Bucs win as he is catching a game-winning touchdown pass.

Godwin is just one of these guys that’s a grinder. Finds out what he needs to work on and attacks it like his life depended on it.

It is cool to see guys like Godwin succeed in the NFL.

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

This is one of our best 3rd round picks in a long, long time. Godwin is a solid citizen and great athlete…..he will eventually be our #2 and it may be sooner than we expect.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Has anyone else had this problem.

I have to type in my moniker & email address every time I post. It stays blank after I post. Any fix?

  4. '74 Bucs Fan Says:

AMEN! We have the makings of an explosive offense, now make the makings happen!

  5. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

As I told Teacher777 yesterday in the Humphries thread…Chris Godwin is here to replace DeSean Jackson, not Adam Humphries.

  6. Bucsfanman Says:

    @TBBF- Same here, every time.

I said it all last year after we drafted him, he will be a household name soon enough. (Like I’m Nostradamus or Realist or something!)
He had better chemistry with Jameis and WORKED for receptions. There’s no reason to believe that he can’t be the #2 WR.

  7. m0j0 Says:

The Bucs WR Corps as a whole is damn impressive! I can’t wait to see these guys tear it up next season!

  8. Bird Says:

Yah. Writing on wall for desean Jackson at 11 mil per. Hope he makes this year count. If we could trade desean for anything that would be huge. To many other deals to get done soon …so no way they can afford desean when Godwin and humphries meager salaries and can produce the same …

  9. DB55 Says:

You know who I think is awesome? Joey buc fan!

How they manage to post article after article every single day amazes me. And they attract the best posters (like me).

JPP could likely only use one hand to count the number of sites who may be better than JBF

  10. Bucsfanman Says:

“And they attract the best posters (like me).” LOL!

DB55- You’ve got a cool screen name, I’ll give you that!

  11. DB55 Says:

    Bucs

Lol, and I thought the jpp line was the punchline. Wtfdik?!?

  12. Not there yet Says:

Fans need sound bites but after a season like that that I just don’t wanna hear the hype. Heard the same type of thing about Noah Spence last year

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Another WR that had chemistry with Jameis was Louis Murphy…..I swear, every time Murphy was in the game….he seemed to be open for Jameis…..too bad he got injured because they seemed to connect.

I have absolutely nothing against Djax….but it’s about value….he is worth every bit of his $11 million….but for another team. We simply must find a way to get value from him this year…..use him on KR/PR….in the slot….put him in commercials….have him serve drinks on the team plane…..anything to get our money’s worth….then he’ll be gone.

If a team loses a #1 or # 2 we should be able to get a 2019 pick for him or even trade a player…perhaps a G or a CB.

  14. Guzzie Says:

2019 our WR corps will probably be without Djax and Hump, hoping they give Bobo more looks this season, ran a 4.56 at the combine coming off an injury, he’s way faster than that, he plays bigger than he looks, him in the slot with ME and Godwin, Watson in his 2nd year this train can keep moving, Djax usually misses 3-4 games every year Godwin is going take his job this year, I bet he out produces DJax, although this coaching staff is so stubborn and horrible adjusting #JIMSCHWARTZ2019

  15. 813bucboi Says:

    tbbf

    I agree!!!!

lou murph was turning his career around until he got hurt….cecil shorts too….

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  16. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

Only a complete freaking moron would bring up louis Murphy on a nfl site. Bum cant stay healthy or play football. Typical low standard bucfan falling for a pathetic feel good story versus actual nfl talent.

    Career

    Djax = 10 yrs 548 rec 9,487 yds
    Bum = 8 yrs 170 rec 2,443 yds

As you can see one puts fear in offensive coordinators and the bum only puts fear in museum night watchmen.

  17. Dewey Selmon Says:

First thing i think of when i hear Louis Murphy is the Pittsburgh game, that and being locked in a museum overnight.

  18. 813bucboi Says:

can someone please put the toilet seat down after they use the restroom for @reality…..it really make him angry…..

only an idiot would try to compare lou to djax…..and reality is the winner!!!!!

    look before you squat!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  19. NFLNut Says:

    Godwin’s awesome

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @Reality-is-a-Beotch

Made absolutely no comparison between Djax and Murphy…..

    No comparison @ $11m vs $900K…..

All I am saying is the somehow Jameis seemed to find.Murphy open.

I think someone doesn’t like Gators….because that seems to be quite an extreme reaction over a minor issue.

I find it interesting that a poster can suggest Bobo Wilson to replace Djax and it goes without criticizm from you.

    Just sayin’.

  21. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Not There Yet – I don’t remember hardly any posts last year about how Noah was going to blow up. If they did I certainly didn’t buy the hype. I don’t think he is big enough and strong enough for this league. We can chalk Spence up as a bust at this point unfortunately. As for Godwin, if you saw the games last year as well as some of his PSU highlights this kid is the real deal.

  22. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

    Tbbf

No complaints about bobo because unlike the bum bobo has upside. Bum is just pure waste of oxygen.

Local feel good stories have never won a single game and every local kid has embarrassed himself from Vh3 to shaun king. Stop wasting time to appesse the few liw standard gaytor fan.

  23. Duke Says:

    Tbbf,

The problem you mentioned, yes same here.

  24. SOEbuc Says:

Gonna be a sick ass rotation between Godwin and DJax this year. And rotation and depth is maybe the most important thing for a team. Especially this team playing in the heat and keeping guys fresh. We did a wonderful job at putting together good rotation at almost every position this offseason. Think/hope they’re gonna be using DJax on the down field post more and that’s one of Godwin’s trademark routes already. Very hyped.

  25. Dave Pear Says:

    TBBF,

    Same problem. just started.
Has to be a glitch on Joe’s end.

  26. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

    Tbbf

When your franchise is as heinous as bucs the goal is to bring in more talented players than previous has been thar never were that you have already LOST with. No one clings on to crap players like a bucfan

  27. destinjohnny Says:

if we had a slightly better offensive line and a marquee back…. we would be stout.

  28. SOEbuc Says:

    TBBF

    Same problem. Help us Joe!!!!!!!

^^Lol. Just tried to post the above when the error came up that I forgot I had to put in my name and e-mail.^^

  29. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I didn’t really want to compare Murphy and Djax but felt forced to check it out….on a “value” basis….I think it is really quite clear comparing the 2014 Murphy stats to the 2017 Djax stats…I’m certainly not claiming Murphy is the better player…but the Bucs got more out of Murphy per dollar for sure.

    Murphy 11 Games 56 TGTS 31Rec 380yds 12.3avg 2TDs
    DJax 14 Games 90 TGTS 50Rec 668yds 13.4avg 3TDs

55% Reception % for each player
5 rec avg per game for Murphy
3.6 rec avg per game for Djax

    Djax $6m per Touchdown…………Murphy $300K per Touchdown

    Now….who is the moron?

  30. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Correction

    DJax $4M per touchdown………..Murphy $300K per touchdown…

The “Bum” had more value….let’s hope Djax brings his 2018 average down to $300K per touchdown…..that would be about 36 TDs

  31. Dave Pear Says:

    TBBF,
    No comparison @ $11m vs $900K…..
    ———————————————————-
Not to be a nitpicker ,BUT if Murphy was making 900,000 thousand and he scored 2 touchdowns…. well that’s 450,000 per TD.
    Just saying.

  32. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @dave pear

Correct…my math suffers from “single malt” Fridays

  33. Dave Pear Says:

    TBBF,

    🙂
Don’t forget to hit your skull bong.

  34. Tampababucfan Says:

I’m so old they quit making my drug of choice….loved the luudes!!

  35. Bucnjim Says:

This Buccaneers team has more weapons then a modern Aircraft Carrier. First time in my history as a Bucs fan that the offense greatly exceeds expectations over the defense. We have at least 7 excellent players on offense that any team in the NFL would love to have.

  36. Tampabaybucfan Says:

And, I predict every draft pick will make the 53…truly no excuse for this Offense not to be totally dominant.

  37. Bucnjim Says:

No excuses should be the rallying cry for optimists as well as the pessimists! Stick carriers would look good with this as their motto.

  38. JimmyJack Says:

Mike Evans aint above critism on this team and their embarassing 11 losses last year. He cost us a game when he couldnt make a play in the endzone despite three decent looks.

Say what you will and, yes, they were tough plays but I’ll set here and rattle off a dozen WRs who win you that game.

One win doesnt matter much when you finish with 5 lousy wins but one win might mean everything this year and if we needs Evans to make a play for us to get that win he better darn well make it!!!!

  39. webster Says:

When godwin was drafted, i told this board that licht got a steal. That is all

  40. webster Says:

Btw…..godwin is the prime example of why you draft the best player available and not for need.

  41. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @webster

Absolutely. Especially if it is a WR or CB….most teams have 5 or 6

  42. SB Says:

Godwin sounds like I guy I would like in a foxhole with me.

  43. Trench War Says:

Being deep with a group of young wide receivers behind Godwin would be equally refreshing. By the looks of it the battle will be intense for spots 5 and 6. Maybe Bucs add 7 but they went with 6 in 2017. I.M.O. Watson will be stolen if he lands on the PC (because of his measurables) but so can any of them for that matter. I guess it’s a good bad thing. Let the preseason begin.

    Freddie Martino
    BoBo Wilson
    Sergio Bailey II
    Justin Watson
    ..and now Bernard Reedy

  44. Howard Cosell Says:

Look for him to have a great season and then be allowed to walk in free agency and be replaced by a scrub.

    #It’s A Bucs Life!

  45. DBS Says:

Trollmax. When you write the exact way you did. We all know it is you. Especially when it comes to all the same players or “bums”. We all knew you would bypas the ban because you don’t care about rules. And don’t try to tell us you are someone new.

  46. Oneilbucs Says:

Godwin should be the number 2 wr Jackson slot . Don’t know why not djax is 31 years old.

  47. Buccfan37 Says:

LOL.. fans complaining about a few extra keystrokes putting in their name and address.

  48. GenoB Says:

I hope this year we force teams to prove that they have the antidote before we abandon the play. If it works well run it again later. I saw too many big plays seemingly pulled from the play book. And let’s put pressure on defensive backs by forcing them make decisions on the fly. Overloads and force mismatches. I think we’re going to get it right this year we have to. We should be in much better condition this year and have fewer injuries because of the inside facility. Last year there were too many practices cut short due to weather. The U.S. have spent the money we have to know that we can trust this groups to manage it.
