Could Suh Be On Bucs’ Radar?

March 13th, 2018

Just a dream?

Joe understands some Bucs fans, for whatever reason, have always detested Gerald McCoy and perhaps want to run him out of town.

Joe suspects one reason is that GMC is not and never will be Warren Sapp.

Sapp was the perfect cartoon character for football fans. He huffed and he puffed and acted the part of some sort of crazed vampire turned defensive tackle.

GMC? He lets guys up off the ground and has relationships with players who wear different colors. That’s his sin in the eyes of these same fans. Good thing Lee Roy Selmon never played in the 21st century.

But Ndamukong Suh? He plays the part of Sapp very well, in fact too well. He’s a talented but dirty player, but the fact the Dolphins released him has Bucs fans’ antennae up. One NFL writer believes Suh and GMC together on the same line would make beautiful football music together.

And that would be WalterFootball.com, which suggests to Bucs fans they should keep an ear to the ground for a potential meeting of two old Big XII warriors.

Suh and Gerald McCoy were back-to-back picks in the 2010 NFL Draft. Could they play next to each other? The Buccaneers have tons of cap space, and they’re desperate to make the playoffs, so it could happen.

Joe would be a bit surprised if this happens because it likely would take an arm and a leg to land Suh. Additionally, there is strong speculation coming out of South Florida that one reason the Dolphins will eat so much dead cap space to flush Suh out the door is that he dragged down the locker room.

If true, that may be a roadblock that prevents Suh from coming to Tampa Bay. After Licht got burned by Swaggy Baker, the last thing he wants is another poisonous snake in the locker room.

@Joe … “After Licht got burned by Swaggy Baker, the last thing he wants is another poisonous snake in the locker room.” B-I-N-G-O !!!

  4. Dooshlarue Says:

We better see how Ol” Softie93 feels about it first.
I’d hate to see him cry……..again.

  5. Jeagan1999 Says:

Don’t GMC and Suh both basically play that same “3 Technique ” position on the field? If both are lined up on the Guards outside shoulder (to try to penetrate the offensive backfield) don’t you need one guy to cover up the center and clog the inside running lane?

  6. USFBUC Says:

Suh and GMC seem to have a friendly relationship, also Suh has lined up a fair bit at DE as well. It could be an interesting mix and I wouldn’t be opposed to a line that consists of Suh, Vea, GMC, Spence

  7. John meeks Says:

Suh will want to much money, and he hasn’t really lived up to expectations.he should have been a Sapp type of player.i heard he was in Seattle yesterday talking to the seahawks.

  8. richbucsfan Says:

I think we need to remember that Sapp had a mean cast of other characters to help him. McCoy has had to be a one-man show. And, even so, he is one of the best DT’s in the league. It would be nice if he had the same nasty cohorts that Sapp had.

  9. Easy Says:

Suhs price will be to high and they play the same position. I tell you what though, if they drafted Vita Vea and signed Suh that would be a solid 3-4 front for a defense

  10. adam from ny Says:

    get kong suh !

    time to get nasty

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Many ways to improve the D without DE…..and DT is one of them…I’m just not sure Suh is the answer.
It seems to me that Miami would have rather traded than released Suh to avoid the cap hit. They must have been really motivated to get rid of him.

  12. KZ Says:

Would be like Stroud and Henderson except in Tampa!! DO IT!

  13. Jeremy Says:

All Pro talent is undeniable. Instant upgrade to the line. May be worth the risk

  14. feelthepewterpower Says:

Suh and McCoy wear the same number, no? :?/

  15. firethecannons Says:

Suh would be competitive unlike Swaggy who did not give a sht. Playing alongside from GMC he would be competitive and try to be the boss of the line instead of McCoy. His ego would not let MCoy beat him out. Maybe Suh can be had for cheap. Honestly the picture of him choking Ryan Mallet was priceless. Perhaps a 1or2 year contract.

  16. Armybucsfan Says:

OMG YOU SO CALLED BUCS FANS ARE KILLING ME !!!! You all who are calling him a cancer and the next Swaggy are probably the same people that said the same thing about Sapp. You all need to pop your mommas titty out your mouths and let this team get mean. If you all were in charge of this team we would be as scary as a bunch of girls selling Girl Scout cookies outside the local grocery store. I say sign him to whatever he wants. WHO CARES ABOUT THE MONEY!!! We need to shift our focus on the W’s!!!!!! I rather have a cancer that lets us win than have the Girl Scouts we have on our defensive front. And while I’m at it go balls deep and trade up for Chubbs. Instantly transforming our defensive front will automatically help out secondary.

  17. thunderchunkyPA Says:

He is way overpriced and not worth the Bucs time. We need to get YOUNGER on the D line, not older. With other options, I would go another rounte.

  18. Evolvingbucfan Says:

If only they could get starry eyed like they did when they got Desean about what could be, Do the same with Suh just imagine what could be …man..with only a few pieces here and there would be nasty.

  19. Armybucsfan Says:

We had the option to go younger but we shat the bed with Quinn. IN THE NFL MONEY TALKS and we weren’t ready to make the proper loves. I guarantee if we were serious in talks with the Rams we would of offered more. But we don’t want to do that either. So beggars can be choosers. Get a veteran who has a proven reputation of being desruptive in the backfield. Probably the same people thought the same thing about bringing Simeon rice over back in 2001…SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW THAT TURNED OUT!???!?

  20. Joeypoppems Says:

Could they be interested? Yes. Should they be interested? No. Playing Suh or GMC at NT would be neutering their production off the bat.

Suh should only be an option if the team is serious about trading GMC.

  21. Bird Says:

No. Suh isn’t truly a piece of garbage

Doesn’t care about team success. Doesn’t care about teammates Doesn’t care about a ring.

Only thing he wants this offseason is around 18-20 mil which ain’t happening.
Hopefully jets go after or 49ers. A team with more cap space then us

  22. Bird Says:

    Is

  23. Andrew Says:

Gerald has played the most snaps every year in the trench. Another good DT will extend Gerald’s career and make the line better. If we could sign a good 30yo DE for 12M/year don’t you think we would do it?

  24. IsrBuc Says:

So tired to hear about the “sapp comparison”. enough with it no one is comparing gmc to anybody. move on its 2018.

  25. OneBucPerson Says:

Just wait till Tmax gets here and starts railing on about how much better of a DT Suh is than McCoy and how McCoy is a much bigger cancer than Suh.

  26. donuts Says:

I like Suh but his numbers have pretty much declined every year. 15 million+ for 50 tackles and 5 sacks does not sound like good value.

  27. Bucsfanman Says:

^^^Well put donuts. We cry about GMC’s production and he’s paid millions less than Suh. But, oh, “Suh is such a tough guy!” Kind of like Ayers the production does not match the “tude”.
Still, he’d be an upgrade over everything we have outside of McCoy.

  28. AlteredEgo Says:

    Make it happen !

  29. OrlandoJoe Says:

I want to know TMax’s thoughts.

  30. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Seems like this should be an automatic, the bucs DL is horrible and the bucs could use some fire on the defense as it seems only kwon is one who has any fire in his belly when the bucs lose

  31. darin Says:

Ive seen suh might only fetch 6-7 mil this time. All specualtion of course we’ll see. Id love to see suh and mccoy together. The DEs they do get will always be singled.
On a different note the salary cap and way contracts can be restructured needs to be addressed IMO. Chiefs are 3.8 mil over the cap yet just agreed with sammy watkins for big money. The eagles are up to some stuff too. Must be nice to be at the cap and still making big signings.

  32. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Never gonna happen…..too many holes to fill and it is truly a waste of money signing a potential loafer/paycheck player…………can’t have another fatty baker here again

  33. Armybucsfan Says:

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I mean do we still have JR SLEEZY ON OUR Team? Isn’t he the biggest loader of all!!

  34. Tom Edrington Says:

Not worth the hassle……big price tag, big problems, TEAMS DO NOT LET GOOD PRODUCTIVE PLAYERS GO (unless they are deemed no longer worth the contract)……guy’s trending down in performance as well……

  35. Armybucsfan Says:

^^^^^^^ he’s still better than ANYONE ELSE WE HAVE ON THE LINE… besides maybe McCoy but I feel the two would compliment each other’s game. Now you can’t double coverage McCoy and leave Suh 1 on 1 on the plays that we play 4-3. And on the plays that we play 3-4 we can substitute each their out and not have the fal on production that we had last year. When McCoy wasn’t in who stepped up. THE ANSWER IS NO ONE!!!

  36. Walter Says:

If they did sign Suh, they should get Vea and switch to a 3-4, they’d have to retool the linebacking unit a bit though, too undersized there. But a 3-4 with Suh and McCoy on the ends with Vea in the middle sounds formidable on paper.

  37. Bobby M. Says:

Here’s the reality, its extremely rare top tier talent hits the market without some baggage…..If they were choir boys the team with top tier talent, teams dont let them go.

If you’re going to roll the dice, bring in an a-hole. The nice guy finish last approach from McCoy is well documented in a decade of losing. The line needs a new voice and better talent. We have to quit accommodating GMC’s comfort level/ego…..Brooks and Sapp played together fine. And lets be clear on this, Sapp was a waaaaaaaaaay bigger a-hole on and off the field then Suh could ever dream to be.

  38. BucsLifeSentance Says:

So tired of hearing the term “risky player” .. What the hell are we risking? we have nothing to lose!

  39. ManzielMadness Says:

He’s already guaranteed 20mil this year. Wonder what type of contract he’d demand.

  40. mike10 Says:

Hasn’t Suh missed like only 2 games his entire career? He just feels like this years Campbell, and someone that brings some much needed nastiness to our DL/defense. I’d argue he’s the anti-Baker.

There are not going to be any DEs in FA or draft, so bring him in and improve your interior, so your ends can be better.

  41. TeddyTB Says:

You guys comparing Suh to baker clearly are ignorant about these two players. I live in Miami and know Baker couldn’t hold Suh’ s jock strap on his best day. Suh isn’t worth what he use to get paid and had too much bonus money coming this year. Because of his character concerns he should be signed for much cheaper. The difference in the caliber of player he is definitely improves the defence by leaps and bounds

  42. Pitts236BUCS Says:

This would be Baker 2.0. Stay away. He hates Miami because of the hot weather practices. Add about 25% more humidity and Tampa’s equally hot temps = another quitter.

  43. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The Bucs no longer have tons of cap space.

  44. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Pitts236BUCS Says
“This would be Baker 2.0. Stay away. He hates Miami because of the hot weather practices. Add about 25% more humidity and Tampa’s equally hot temps = another quitter.”

But we also have an indoor facility. Brand new.

  45. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Armybucsfan Says
“I mean do we still have JR SLEEZY ON OUR Team? Isn’t he the biggest loader of all!”

I don’t know if I agree with that. He worked pretty hard last year. He just lost a little something while injured. But he improved in the second half of the season.

  46. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    OrlandoJoe Says
“I want to know TMax’s thoughts.”

    I can provide that.

    something like:
“You could stack the rest of the line with elite players and as long as concer93 is there, the Bucs will still go 4-12!”

    or

“Suh is as big a loser as concer93!”

  47. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    IsrBuc Says:
“…no one is comparing gmc to anybody.”

Just because you are not, that doesn’t mean all others are not. He is held up to the Sapp standard constantly. It’s not really fair to him either. Pay attention to Joe’s twitter and you will see the comments that make the comparison.

  48. Mike Johson Says:

On the one hand Suh might bring out more aggresiveness in McCoy. On the other hand..Our Bucs get even more penalties with the addition of Suh.

  49. gman Says:

Gerald McCoy will never be 25% of the player and man that Lee Roy Selmon was.

  50. DB55 Says:

Sign Suh, draft a DT and burn gmc at the stake.

How many P.O. appearance does Suh have vs gmc? I will drop this mic right here now. Ty.

  51. Rod Munch Says:

Sign Suh, play him next to GMC and suddenly Ayers is completely useless. Sounds good to me.

  52. StPeteBucsFan Says:

This obviously requires major due diligence as in at least a dinner with Licht, Koetter, Smitty and GMC and Suh to gauge chemistry and effect in the locker room.

If that works out then it’s down to $$$. I am one of those who has always felt Suh has been overpaid…the major difference in GMC’s and Suh’s careers are salaries…production has always been close as have their team’s results.

What I do not know…and maybe Luv or TNEW or one of our contract guys can tell us what Suh would REALLY cost us. The Dolphins are prepared to eat some salary to unload Suh…how much? What would our cap considerations be?

If all that worked out…it could be an exciting deal. I’m just afraid the expectations would soar beyond belief…kind of like with DJAX.

  53. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

    It won’t happen.

A move like that requires out of the box thinking and some large footballs.

    Licht has/does netiher.

He plays it safe in the slow lane since he made a bad move with Aguayo and got roasted in the press. Since then he’s taken the “if I don’t do anything, no one can write anything bad about me” approach.

Kudos, Licht. Enjoy working for ESPN radio next year.

IF HE HAD FIXED THE TRENCHES, HE WOULD HAVE FIXED THE BUCS!!

  54. joestang Says:

we never take a chance on players. such as ritchie incognito, aqib talib and so on. will win super bowl with a different team than bucs. ps. we have baggage with winston.

  55. pick6 Says:

big roll of the dice, probably a terrible player in the locker room on a dead end team but a guy who’d lead the team in swagger and aggressiveness if the season gets off to a good start. why not go for it, if the season goes south a discontent suh will be the least of koetter and licht’s worries. and brenston buckner is probably the right kind of coach to put him with

  56. pick6 Says:

how about a 3-4 front featuring

    suh—-poe\vea–mccoy
    lavonte—-beckwith—–kwon—–spence

gholston and mcdonald are nice reserves along the front and it will be easier to find rush OLBs than 4-3 pass rushers and you can get away with bigger, less athletic ends and play plenty of 4-3 when it suits you with mccoy and suh inside taking turns eating double teams.

  57. THETRUTH Says:

    Go get him !!!!
    Move up and get CHUBB
    Noah Spence on outside
    Dominate line !!!!!!

    Sign CB

    DRAFT RB, safety , online

  58. GhostofSchiano Says:

Just here for the Tmaxcon comments

  59. David Says:

Sure, why not. I would rather have him than that altar boy Gerald McCoy, who actually picks up opposing players when they are on the ground. Pat Riley, would kick him off the team for doing that and probably Belicheck would too and all they do is win .
