“Fervor”

March 13th, 2018

Not fooling around with DT.

It seems the Bucs may be big game hunting. That’s the word from a plugged-in national NFL columnist.

Per heavy metal headbanging Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the Bucs are one of five teams with their sights aimed at some big-name defensive tackles.

Among the defensive lineman the Bucs are linked to, types La Canfora, are Dontari Poe, Star Lotulelei and Sheldon Richardson.

How much are the Bucs going after the three? La Canfora termed it with “fervor.”

This warms Joe’s heart to read this. Those are some big-bodied guys that would be perfect next to Gerald McCoy.

Provided they don’t pull a Swaggy Baker and mail it in once the checks clear.

Great news, and not unexpected at least by me.
Sorry to all the negative, sky is falling Sheeple that have been freaking the F out recently.
Some of you make tmax seem rational by comparison.
Keep building this team Mr. Licht.
It’s about choosing the right players and learning from your mistakes quickly and moving on.

    Go Bucs!

  2. tmaxcon Says:

Talk is cheap… until they close a deal its just same ole off-season BS

  3. Defense Rules Says:

Build the DLine from the inside out Jason. This is the year to do it. GMC – McDonald – Poe – Vea or Payne. Add Wilkerson to the DE cadre & that DLine could get after some folks.

  4. USFBUC Says:

I wouldn’t mind the Bucs signing Aaron Lynch too, he showed some early promise but then dealt with a bunch of injuries, we could get him cheap as a gamble

  5. Easy Says:

I’d take Lotulelei in that group because his price tag shouldn’t be near as much and he’s a solid DT. Definitely not a cancer like half sack Baker.

  6. Brenton Says:

Poe is terrible and old so gen will fit great.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

There are many ways to improve the defense without finding a stud DE…..DT, CB, S…..

You know, many say players won’t come to Tampa…..I disagree. The Bucs have been very good to their players….even the bad ones have been treated with great respect….they let Baker go early so he could find another team. They offer their players generous renewal contracts.
And, look at the way they treated Doug Martin……he messes up and they let him keep his salary and gave him another chance. Not many teams would do that.
So, if you are a veteran player….Tampa is a good place to come.

  8. Bird Says:

Licht and koetter fighting for jobs so they better.

I saw Texans hard after ej Gaines as well

  9. Bird Says:

    Tampabaybucsfan

Agree. I think those signings of Evans and brate had some meaning with their timing ….you come to Tampa and play hard , you will get rewarded with a nice contract , beautiful beach weather and no state income tax

Boom. That’s how they need to keep it rolling.

  10. IsrBuc Says:

This is stupid. Repeating the same mistake. I, for one, would love them to send GMC and LVD packing with some other old vets, get the picks and sit for a year.
This also bodes well with JW suspention possiblility. We will not win next year regardless of what we do. its just a waste. get the picks, pick well and try again on 2019

  11. MTM Says:

I’ve seen this signing splurge before from Licht and it didn’t end well. ” You get an extension , bonus, you get an extension ” and so on. Overpaying for mediocre talent. Its a Bucs Life!

  12. Bird Says:

    Isrbuc

Are you smoking crack this morning ?

I get that you are one of the GMC haters but trading lavonte in his prime. Our best and most consistent player for picks. What the hell? You know the draft is a crap shoot right? Teams are lucky to hit on one maybe two guys a year…

And you want to get rid of one of the best linebackers in nfl. Dude. Just please stop the rock smokage

  13. Doolnutts Says:

Well Jason, in my opinion, is out of options. All the ”experts” for the draft have said outside of chubb there isn’t a DE ready to start today. That being said the next Bess thing would be to improve our interior rush as best as they can. Maybe this will help in freeing up mccoy who knows.

  14. Not there yet Says:

For once I agree with tmaxcon

  15. Costa Rica John Says:

They may be able to sign one of these DT’s then add Vita Vea in the draft. Then the Bucs could try using McCoy at DE on third downs and see if it improves the pass rush. They need to try something if they can’t get a DE.

  16. AlteredEgo Says:

Sign the best center and guard in FA…move Ali back and draft defense and RB

  17. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Plugged in source to Jason Licht and his BS, Licht is a politician not an NFL GM, just like he was poised to nab Dalvin Cook but didnt, then waited to grab the worst running back in the draft, cmon, sick of this act, actions speak louder and the actions are 5-11 franchise

  18. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

    @tmaxcon,

I’m in 100% agreement. Talk is cheap. And we are too, until they show we’re not.

Look at Norwell to the Jags! Made a complete left turn and ran for the no-state-income-tax Jaguars loot for 5 years 66 mill, 30 guaranteed with an owner that is completely about spending on his team. Hurray for Shad Khan, a stud owner there in Jax!

Plus….La Canfora can’t really be held to any accountability with “fervor”. That word is so amorphous and can be very ambiguous for any real specific measurable action. Florio and Schefter are the only ones to watch THIS time of year.

    Go Bucs!

  19. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

BIG Game hunting? hmmm top OL FA just signed with jville licht must be doing teh frank reynolds plan of SCRAPS

  20. PistolPete Says:

Suh and GMC…while past their prime would be intriguing for a 2 year run.
If that happens, I’d like to see this draft play out:
Trade up for Chubb (NCSU) in the 1st.
Frank Ragnow Center (ARK) in the 2nd.
Da’shawn Hand (ALA) in the 3rd.
If Shaq Griffin is still there in the 4th, grab him. If not, RB John Kelly (UT)
Wyatt Teller (VATech) in the 5th.
Feeling that we will have Barber and no one else (unless we draft Kelly) on depth chart at RB,
Roc Thomas (Jax St) in the 6th.

  21. Bobby M. Says:

They’ve had their names tied to every big name out there……the problem is nobody wants to come here unless we grossly overcompensate them. Licht generally prefers to grossly overcompensate middle tier players that are a “good value”. That strategy has yet to pay off but with enough mud against the wall, somethings got to stick eventually.

  22. El_Buc941 Says:

I prefer Poe out of the 3!

  23. Jodi Sportcoat Says:

Nor Suh or Mccoy are past their prime. These are once in a lifetime players that play high level through a ten year career. Why would anyone wanna come here when they read 75% of these comments?Sounds like a bunch of fans I dont want to play for with a little bit of little girl and stupid mixed in.

  24. 813bucboi Says:

would love Sheldon Richardson and big star along the dline……

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!…..GO BUCS!!!!

  25. TeddyTB Says:

Spend that Cash!!! Oline, DT, & Cb. Let’s win this year & please no old ass rbs.

  26. Pa Privateer Says:

If there are no DEs to sign, then sign a position that helps our mediocre DEs.

Sign some badass DTs like POE, RICHARDSON, SUH, and perhaps WILKERSON

  27. DBrad67 Says:

Imagine SUH and GMC… nothing left to say but WOW

  28. joestang Says:

same old bucs, settle for a cheaper free agent that does not perform and will be cut after 1 year. we need new management that would be aggressive in free agency. don’t see that here. Not even bringing in guys to talk to shows that they are not serious at winning. time to start rooting for cleveland.

  29. Capt.Tim Says:

Team is dying for DE, so they ignore Quinn and other DEs, and are fevorent about DTs.
    They probably are that stupid.
You can have all the interior pressure in the world. We already have interior presrure. It doesnt do any good, if all the QB has to do is roll out, and relax in the luxurious security provided by our invisible DEs!!!!

This team’s Coaches and GM is like a blind dart player
