The Bucs & Richard Sherman

March 7th, 2018

Please, no.

Seven days from the free agency dinner bell and the buffet keeps filling up with new menu items.

It’s seems the latest tray of piping hot talent to be sniffed by the Buccaneers will come in the form of superstar but injured cornerback Richard Sherman.

NFL Network reports claim Sherman has been saying goodbye to teammates today, as the Seahawks are expected to cut him and avoid his $11 million salary for 2018.

Sherman would look great in a Bucs uniform, but that’s only the healthy version of Sherman. The problem is he is injured: surgery after he blew out his right Achilles in November, then recent surgery to clean up his left Achilles.

What next, hip replacement?

Sherman, who turns 30 this month, might be a great wild card on a one-year, prove-it deal, but it’s too big of a long shot with too many good and healthy cornerbacks available. Oh, and one of those cornerbacks not coming off surgery is the Bucs’ own Brent Grimes.

he sure has the injury history of a buccaneer man!

  2. University of Seffner Says:

Injured or not, I’d really want Sherman on the roster. He could be a mentor for the younger cornerbacks, and if we draft a couple of CB’s, then he can be a bridge player for awhile. “Injured or not” Whaaat? –Joe

  3. 1Gr8Buc Says:

Joe- Your boy Bennett traded to the Eagles.

  4. rrsrq Says:

Michael Bennet to the Eagles for a 5th round pick and a receiver that caught 5 balls last year.

  5. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

    Bennett gone for pennies.

Thats another player we have missed that came on the cheap… 2018 is looking bleaker by the moment

  6. BucsLifeSentance Says:

Better than who we have! Injured or not!

  7. Max Says:

Rich get richer as Bennett goes to the eagles.

  8. SammyRebel Says:

Joe I love your reads, but our GM is too scared to pull the trigger on any player not named Chris Baker, really irks me that he doesn’t wanna make this team greats since all we had to give up was a 4th and 5th round picks and we would have acquired Bennett and Quinn but let’s just hope the bucs to 8-8 this year, we need a house clean ASAP with football people and not a bunch of scouts and pee wee coaches

  9. Marc Says:

No no no no no…… this would be a classic case of paying somebody for what they HAVE ALREADY DONE rather than what they WILL DO.

  10. 1Gr8Buc Says:

Just emailed my rep. They can take those season passes and wipe their a$$ with them. Not supporting a team that does NOT want to make bold moves to improve the team.

  11. Lamarcus Says:

    Bennett to the eagles?

  12. DPewter Says:

    Sweazy 2.0

  13. Bucballbaby84 Says:

I’m pissed! No Michael Bennett either! Wtf is this team trying to do! If you wanna win you fix your wholes on your team. I’m really starting to doubt desires of this franchise.

  14. 813bucboi Says:

lol….philly had no problem signing a “quitter” or “thug”….lol…..

Bennett will fit in nicely with the eagles…..Malcolm Jenkins….chris long and Bennett all represent/fight for the same thing…..

happy for you Bennett….good luck chasing another ring!!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  15. Chrisco4Bucs Says:

    Bennett to the Eagles

  16. Atrain4047 Says:

It’s official the Bucs will do nothing to improve their dline via trades. Bennett gone for a bag of peanuts. Quinn traded for a lousy 4th and swapping 6th round picks. Marcus peters traded for a 4th round pick. Yet they still have the same bums in gholston and Ayers with no cornerbacks. Bennett and Quinn were clearly the best edge rushers available and the Bucs sit there with their thumbs up their asses. Really excited about the 2018 season, hopefully this offense can average 30 points a game

  17. DB55 Says:

Lmao oh the Bucs bless their heart.

  18. Rojas Says:

Quin goes for a 4th, and a 6th. Bennett for a 5th.. yet here we are still.

  19. darin Says:

Wow. Did Licht watch this defense last year? Quinn and Bennett. Cant think of 2 better draft picks this team could have made in the 3rd and 5th round! Licht needs those picks to move up in the draft and draft a player 2 rounds early I guess. I guess Licht wants to take an extended vacation with Dirk and Smitty next year. Cuz its comin.

  20. Marc Says:

    JOE,

Might as well stop writing any further articles about DBs, since this team is apparently going status quo at DL.

  21. GyroKiller Says:

I can’t believe we didn’t pull the trigger on Bennett. I’m losing faith in Licht, hope he has something up his sleeve.

  22. DB55 Says:

Folks as a reminder the glazers only care about Cuban sandwiches and luxury suites. There’s still time to download the Raiders app, lol.

  23. AKick'nTheBucNuts Says:

    Bennett to the Eagles.
    Now that’s AKick’nTheBucNuts for sure.

  24. Bucsfanman Says:

    tmax- LOL, funny but true!

  25. Rod Munch Says:

On a positive note the Bucs are just one year away from being able to change their uniforms – and that is something they need to get done. The last change was a disaster – the dumb font on the numbers is awful, the colors are awful, basically Nike is terrible at their job. Hopefully they’ll do a complete change, go with something that has a lot more white and orange so they can do throwback uniforms like everyone else in the NFL.

  26. AKick'nTheBucNuts Says:

Didn’t the Eagles just win the Superbowl?
And now they are trying to get EVEN BETTER?
While we sit on our hands with the worst D in football.

    Yup. Nothin’ to fix here.

  27. 1Gr8Buc Says:

Have a tour scheduled for One Buc Place. I RSVPd for 4 I believe. Anyone want to join and voice our displeasure with the inaction of this team!!

  28. Rojas Says:

Hopefully they change the clock numbers also.

  29. DanBucsFan Says:

Ok it’s painfully obvious, Bucs are , I mean Licht is not interested in making any splash moves via trade. So, if we do not make any real free agent pick ups and by real I mean players on the right side of 30 and playing in their prime, then I for one am going to stop putting as much time, thought, and $ into this regime. No more club season tix, no more traveling 2 hours one way on Sunday, and no more paying attention as I do now. I will always be a Buc fan but I will stick to Sundays on tv no more following the practices or following the web sites. This is a true disgrace to all bucs fans that Licht is not doing a damn thing to improve this team , while other teams have the b@ll$ to at least attempt to improve. Please Glaziers, bounce Licht out of town he is not helping the process he is just stealing your money…. I am not over reacting I am reacting, something our gm apparently does not know how to do. Bennet, Quinn, Peters were not going to save the day guaranteed, but they all would have been upgrades.

  30. Bucsfanman Says:

Hilarious! Eagles trade a 5th and Marcus Johnson (WR) to Seattle for Bennett AND 7th rd pick.

  31. Rod Munch Says:

Great news on Bennett, that piece of trash can go to a garbage town like Philly, the two deserve each other. Hopefully he’ll tear his ACL in week 3 of the preseason and be a dead weight on a team with no cap space.

  32. OneBucPerson Says:

I want him, even at age 30 on nursing a leg injury Sherman might still be the best zone corner in football. He’d be a huge improvement over what we have currently.

  33. BigHogHaynes Says:

    ^^^whst a fu*king idiot ^^^

  34. Defense Rules Says:

Revis 2.0 … Bucs would spend a bazillion $$$ getting Sherman to play here on a 1-year prove-it deal, he’d rehab here, then sign with the Patriots or Eagles next year. No thanks.

  35. Horse Liver Says:

Go get him. This is a no-brainer. No one else on the team other than Grimes can sit up and swallow their breakfast let alone play CB. But given the example Licht has set with Quinn and Bennett, never mind. Sherman will be playing for one of the Bucs’ NFC South rivals in 2018.

  36. Robert Says:

this is what good teams do. purge the over the hill guys and guys who’s mouth’s have gotten bigger than their ability.

  37. Rod Munch Says:

The issue with Sherman is that if he came to Tampa he’d be getting a PI call on every play. The guy can not cover without holding guys, and while in Seattle they got every call, he’d never get that here.

  38. Frank Pillow Says:

The most pathetic thing is that right at this very moment he would be the best CB on our roster. #Lichtmyfire

  39. MadMax Says:

hmmmm……always hated his mouth, but he was pretty good in his day. But that might be gone now. i dont know.

  40. Easy Says:

I’d welcome Sherman here with open arms. Re-sign Grimes or draft Denzel Ward and your corners are locked in.

  41. BuccaneEric75 Says:

We’re going to have to draft a RB and the best OLman every round to make up for our Loviesque Defense this season. Rookie DEs and CBs won’t have an effect on 2018. F it and go all Offense in the draft. At least one side of the ball can be legit, as long as Winston doesn’t get suspended. Kind of joking here but what are you going to do?

  42. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

Remember Revis? Sure, Revis made a Pro Bowl with the Bucs and then left after a year and won a Super Bowl as an All-Pro. –Joe

Joe – you have to stop with the 30 and over crowd. It’s obvious Licht doesn’t have the moxie to pull off any shrewd moves that the best GM’s make.

The only creativity I’ve ever seen from him is in overpaying by at least 400% on a kicker. Licht has declared that a kicker is worth a 3rd and a 4th round pick but that Quinn and Bennett combined are not worth a 4th and a 5th rounder.

    Does that instill any confidence?

Enough with the “Licht has a plan” nonsense. Every fired GM had a plan going into the final season that got them fired. The Cleveland GMs had a plan last season that led to 0-16.

Look at how low of a price tag these vets have been going for this offseason in trades. Licht is thinking like a scout, not a GM, and thinks he’s going to find hidden gems with these “oh so valuable” late picks.

The Bucs could have already added Peters, Quinn, Bennett – and still had their #1 pick and enough money to sign Norwell and their top up[coming young free agents. But why do something like that when you can draft those amazing 5th rounders and really coach them up into Pro Bowlers.

Happens all the time in Tampa, right?

  43. buc50 Says:

It takes two in any trade, buccaneer fans you’re in or out pick one.stop riding the fence

  44. Pepsi Says:

have to pass on this over 30 cb who played zone with a top dline his whole career and now coming of big injuries. hes not the answer, would like him more if we were already good.

  45. Skoorb Says:

Sounds like Revis all over again. Let’s pay him an obscene amount of money then cut him the year after

  46. ZK Says:

    F Sherman

  47. Buc Fresh Says:

Hell no. Please dont bring Sherman in. God i hope/ wish one day we will stop wanting every damn player that come avail

  48. feelthepewterpower Says:

    Injury history? Passssss

  49. Rod Munch Says:

The Revis comparisons are nonsense, if he was as good as Revis it would be a no brainer. BTW, Revis was good in Tampa even coming off the injury – he gave up like one TD that was his fault for the entire season, at least that’s how I remember it. It was the Bucs that dumped him for no reason, which was really dumb. Just like getting rid of Talib and not resigning Bennett before he went out west and became an anti-American cop hating social justice warrior.

  50. NFLNut Says:

If he’s CHEAP and will accept a 1 year prove it deal … maybe … other than that, ABSOLUTELY NOT!

  51. BigHogHaynes Says:

[You are like so many folks over the years. You dance the dance on the line of just deleting a comment or getting banned. It is just a matter of time before than dance leads you to step on the too-hot rocks. It’s happened so many times with so many commenters Joe cannot count. — Joe]

  52. John meeks Says:

I think the injury have caught up with him but our GM seems to have a plan that no one knows what it is.so far we have a new defensive line coach.im waiting to see what Mr light is gonna do about this roster.im also losing faith in him!

  53. Jim Says:

So Philly, Super Bowl Champ, is a “garbage town”? Uh,..OK.

  54. Nater Says:

    Noooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!
    Please God , nooooooooo!

  55. ManzielMadness Says:

Here’s a tweet about Sherman from Benjamin Albright…

“Fwiw, and this is not a “report” …what was told to me last week was Tampa had inquired.”

IMO we can find better CB’s elsewhere.

  56. ManzielMadness Says:

The tweet was talking about trading for Sherman btw.

  57. Not there yet Says:

Only thing teasing for Sherman would prove is licht is not fit to be a general manager. Glazes won’t allow it, we’ve already given up picks for an old injured corner so no thanks. If it’s not an edge rusher forget it.

  58. Jtully4224 Says:

It sucks because we could have probably gave up a 4 and 7th for one of the DEs let’s say Quinn. Then go and trade a future 5th pick Adam Humphries rights for Bennett and a conditional future 5th round pick.. Then go and trade and trade a 2nd round pick and VG3 for Marcus peters. While also signing a CB and or rolling the dice with a one year Sherman deal and boom. FIREWPRKA BUCS ADD 3 -4 VETS WHO KNOW HOW TO WIN AND HAVE PLAYOFF AND SB EXPERIENCE. IS THIS HARD TO DO OR DO THE BUCS THINK WE CAN GET THAT KIND OF IMMEDIATE IMPACT TALENT IN THE DRAFT. C ‘MON MANNNNNNNNN THAT MOVE ALONE WOULD PUT US IN THE PLAYOFFS

  59. BigHogHaynes Says:

No problem Joe / I thought I had changed my tone to be more instep with what I read here on a daily basis, cheers my man no tears!

  60. ATrain Says:

Y’all think the GM is calling the shots
    Hahaha

My 8 year old would have fired him and atleast the DC

Everyone else in the NFL would too

    But not the Bucs. WHY?

    LONDON BABY

  61. Duke Says:

    A train,

The idea of the Bucs planning to make a move to London is just ridiculous. You keep putting it out there and it just is foolish. Seriously, what would ever lead you down the rabbit hole? So you believe the Glazers boys and girl possess the wherewithal to pull off such a coup. You really think that they’re that sharp and clever? Why? The other issue is they aren’t known for their influence behind the scenes at the league office and that’s what you need in this situation. It’s just not plausible.

If said Jacksonville is looking to move to London then it’s plausible and there’s a solid case to be made for it. But the Glazers……..gimme a f ing break.

  62. Greecosuave Says:

Are we going 3-4, or staying 4-3, or Defense period? I just want to know the plan.

How well would Sherm work on a team with no pass rush?

  63. Duke Says:

    Rod,

The point about Sherman holding every down and how here it would be p.I. calls galore. That is a great observation and I have to think it would be a nightmare problem. If you consider the volume of reps He has accumulated over his tenure in Seattle I wonder how difficult it would be to change. Again, great point.

Just to add another bit of info. and perhaps something that you don’t know.
The fact that Sherman holds every play isn’t indicative of his lack of cover skills.
He along with the entire secondary is coached to hold on every play. That’s what you’re looking at, not declining skills. He would be alone here if He did and I have to agree it would be a nightmare.

  64. Mike Johnson Says:

I’ll play devils advocate here. Why not Sherman? What you got better Bucs? Sherman will speak up and jump in other players A.s’S! What you got to lose Tampa Bay..Ohhh another losing season you say? Well it looks like we are securing that now anyway. Sherman may be mouthy. But he is tough. And tough is what the Bucs need.
