Turn On The 2014 Film

January 24th, 2018

Joe cornered one of the great offensive minds in football today for a take on the Gerald McCoy haters who live across the Tampa Bay area.

Now Joe fully expected a stock, politically correct answer from Saints coach Sean Payton when diving deep on this topic.

Joe advised Payton that there are legions of fans and ex-Buccaneers who don’t think McCoy is very good. Joe asked Payton for some hard evidence that McCoy is a special player.

Payton started talking about McCoy’s extreme and consistent disruption and how he’ll spend half a game on the Saints side of the field if a coordinator doesn’t make the necessary adjustments. Yeah, yeah, that’s the usual stuff you’ll here from coaches, Joe thought.

But then Payton took it to another level.

Payton explained that as a coach you watch a ton of film that it’s only a few things really make a lasting impression. One of them, Payton said, is McCoy’s film against the Steelers in 2014. Payton said the evidence of true greatness is there for all to see.

Yes, that performance left a significant mark on Payton. The Saints played the Bucs the following week.

Interesting nugget from Payton, who said he enjoyed having breakfast with McCoy this week and getting personal with him.

So there you go, McCoy bashers, turn on the film.

    Gee……Great!

    McCoy …………….

    …..impact player….ughhhhh……..Ok

  2. C eh N eh D eh Says:

2014 film, great, grasping for any McCoy defence ..how will he factor into this team in 2 years? think about that…time to get something for this clown, NOW!

  3. Not there yet Says:

Hahaha yeah take that bucs fans turn on the film of one game there years ago and you’ll see how great GMC is hahahaha, lol it’s not even February and this is the worst off-season from a news standpoint since the bucs went 10-6 and Dominic did nothing

  4. tmaxcon Says:

Problem is it’s 2018 and more importantly that dominate first step to nowhere never translated to dominate games or wins

  5. breakfast with who now? Says:

Did anyone miss the part about McCoy have breakfast with a divisional opponent’s coach? How is this not tampering on the Saint’s side, and furthermore why are the Bucs allowing McCoy to eat with a foe.

  6. Bucs55 Says:

    here Comes Tmax….

Get McCoy some help and he will dominate . He’s never had a counter part defensive end that could take some pressure and leave him 1 on 1 with the guard

  7. MadMax Says:

Just put Vita beside him! Then get a Key/Davenport/Farrell on the edge with him.

    We’ll see then…..

  8. tmaxcon Says:

every free agent they bring in to help mccoy get better fails and regresses. mccoy is the problem. addition by subtraction get rid of the soft crying clown and bring in a man.

  9. The Buc Realist Says:

4 seasons ago can be a lifetime ago in the NFL!!!!!!!!!!!!

So the GMC in 2014 vs the steelers had 1 sack and 1 tackle

and to follow it up in the saints game had 0 sacks and 3 tackles

    There is no “disruption” stat

    BTW
Micheal Johnson had 2 sacks and 4 tackles!!!!!

  10. Bucs55 Says:

    Tmax
What defensive end have they brought that has actually been a good counter part to McCoy ???? Ayers has never had a 10+ sack year Michael Johnson was never a good pass rusher he was always a good run stuffer who have they brought ??? Please tell me because you’re hate for McCoy is incredible for a player that is basically doing it by himself on the Dline

  11. Bucsfanman Says:

Getting rid of GMC only makes us worse tmax. We already have tons of holes to fill, DT is not the highest priority though it will be in another year or two. We need edge rushers, and STAT! Guys that can back up their mouth with the play on the field. (I’m looking at you Ayers!)

  12. Bucs55 Says:

    Mad max

Waisting a top 15 pick on a nose tackle would actually be dumb look at all the starting nose tackles in this league and there’s only a hand full that could actually stay on the field on third downs we don’t need a part time player . Most of the nose tackles in the league are lower round picks that have developed to be good run stuffers we need pass rush help

  13. Bucs55 Says:

    Tmax

And to call him a career loser is kind of dumb when football is a team sport joe Thomas is probably one of the best LT to ever play they game is he a career loser because he’s counter parts are not to his level of play he probably will be in the hall of fame in a couple of year . I don’t know if you have ever played football but football is a team sport you could be the greatest player in the world and if you’re team around you suck you’re not good win much.

  14. Capt.Tim Says:

I hope that we trade McCoy to Payton.
Then I can watch him destroy Marpet, Etc- and force Jameis into dozens of bad Decisions.
The ball would be getting tossed up aimlessly on most every play!

I didnt go to any games this year. But if that happened, Id buy A McCoy Saints Jersey. Id go to both games, including flying to New Orleans.

And Id be the happiest Ive been at a Bucs game, In a long Time!

  15. The Buc Realist Says:

Why do some want to fill all these holes on defense needing 5-6 players to make GMC look great, when we could trade GMC only need 3 players and have a better defense then that running a 3-4!!!!!!!!

Trade GMC, Trade down for Mount VEA!!!!!!!!!!!

Fix the “real” problems the “TRENCHES”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!

  16. JimmyJack Says:

Come on “Realist” so many fans have been begging for a 3-4 for probably 5 maybe more years now……..it just ain’t gonna happen.

Though if it does I heard one reporter saying they will keep Baker around hahahaha

  17. Bucs55 Says:

    The Bucs realist

Ok so we trade McCoy and draft Vea to go a 3-4 package where does he play when we go to a nickle package that we are basically in 65 to 75 percent of the time we’re does Vea play and who do we bring inside because we would need two pass rushers in the middle while our outside linebackers go to the Dend position ??? VEA does not solve our defensive line problems it actually makes them worse because we would be horrible on 3rd downs

  18. Bucs55 Says:

The best defenses are bases of the 4-3 front with good Defensice ends Jacksonville and Minnesota both have great pass rushers and good 3tech.

  19. Maze Says:

Payton? come on man you can do better than that Joe.

  20. The Buc Realist Says:

    @bucs55

you better look up Vita Vea, because he is not some fat guy standing around on first 2 downs!!!!!!!!!

do some research and then come back and ask about 3rd down!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. Bucs55 Says:

I have done research Vea 9.5 career sacks in 3 seasons had 3 sacks this year is that what you call a dominant pass rusher I would not touch a nose tackle in the first 15 picks Danny Shelton came out with the same hype and better statistics comming out in 2014 with 9 sacks and what has he done nothing

  22. Bucs55 Says:

What nose tackle has gone over 10 sacks in the pass 5 years ???

  23. martinii Says:

I think McCoy is a great football player and yes I believe the Buc’s have wasted some of his talent by not surrounding him with better players. He has fought a double team his entire career and only a poor judge of character would question his manhood. He is a perineal Pro-Bowler who receives only praise and admiration from coaches and players around the NFL.

  24. miken Says:

Our franchise qb, is inconsistant and turnover prone, our best d lineman had that one game where he looked like Sapp, we only have 1 CB and he’s free and 35, and we have no run game… plus we have all the same coaches as last year. Awesome!

  25. unbelievable Says:

The window to trade McCoy for anything valuable has already passed. You’re only putting ANOTHER hole on a defense already filled with holes.

Sorry haters but you’re stuck with a top-5 DT for at least 1 more season.

  26. tnew Says:

Since he is so scary for Sean Peyton, I have the solution. Trade GMC for Cameron Jordan.

  27. Steven007 Says:

Bucs55, don’t expect an answer from Trollmax on the team sport aspect. If you get one it will only be the tired, unoriginal, perpetually recycled “he’s a cancer” BS that inexplicably assigns GMC super powers that apparently allow him to render all other players on his team impotent. It’s ridiculous. But of course engaging with Public Troll #1 (AKA: Trollmax/Cancermax) gives him the oxygen of respectability he desires so much. Just say no, ha-ha.

  28. Phil Says:

Still wish we would trade him.

  29. 813bucboi Says:

    vea is nice…6’5..340..DT…2017-43 tackles…3.5 sacks

    I like taven bryan tho…..6’5…295…DE/DT…2017-37tackles….4sacks

either one would be fine with me….GO BUCS!!!!

  30. Rod Munch Says:

Uh oh, the McCoy haters just got triggered….

  31. Lamarcus Says:

Gmc is garbage when I turn on the film.

  32. Steven007 Says:

813, I like Bryan too. Checked him out yesterday. And he wouldn’t be a first-rounder either. Will be interesting to see how he tests.

  33. Lamarcus Says:

Gmc is like Roman Reigns of WWE ( yes, I’m comparing the 2) Fans has to be told and convince from 2nd and 3rd person how good he is rather than prove it on the field.

In a league that is trying to fixed thier image will always have a GMC in their All Star game. He is a choir boy in a league of bad boys

  34. Bucnjim Says:

    McCoy is at the e

  35. Bucnjim Says:

End of his career and the Bucs are several years from a true playoff run so why keep him?

  36. Buc believer Says:

Wow ok he played one good game…. yippee

  37. Bucnjim Says:

Get young across the board and grow together. That is when you bring in the high priced free agents to compliment and lead.

  38. DB55 Says:

Marpet already beat up McCoy first week of camp during his rookie year.

When Michael Bennett played along side McIceCream, McIceCream had is lowest sack totals. Clayborn leaves Tampa and is a starter on a championship team. Ghost Johnson was McCoy’s favorite buddy no coincidence we call him GHOST. NOAH Spence plays almost an entire season with a torn shoulder, McIceCream cries on national tv bc he hurt his bicep (no surgery required). Chit even jameis played with a bum shoulder yes a 23 yo QB got more balls than McIceCream Tutti frutti tootsie pop.

Did Peyton watch the 2016 Dallas Cowboy film or the 2017 Panthers film (pt 2) where McCoy go run over, run through and laughed at for the loss? Or how about the 2015 film against the Redskins where after giving up a 24-0 lead at the half he was taking selfies with Kirk cousins talking about I like that? How about last years pro-bowl where McIceCream is getting laughed at bc he couldn’t move a sled?

When is the last time you heard any nfl player criticize another nfl player? It’s all PC bs. If OC’s respect McIceCream so much how come they always run right at him on goaline, short yardage or with the game on the line? I can’t hear what Peyton is saying bc his actions are deafening?

  39. DB55 Says:

On the positive Gerald McCoy is the perfect fit for the TampBay Buccaneers, what other professional sports team has an openly gay pirate as a mascot? Coincidence, I think not!

  40. BigMacAttack Says:

    Trade GMC. He has value.

  41. Lamarcus Says:

    Db55

But why do we have to turn on film from almost 4 years ago to see a great game by him??? This is wierd

  42. BucTrooper Says:

“Tampa Bay DT Gerald McCoy had two tackles and a sack in his return from a hand injury.” ESPN

Where is Gerald’s SIGNATURE game? Where’s the game that he just dominated and took over? Sapp has like 10 of them. I’m looking for ONE game that will stand out. McCoy is like wallpaper, no one notices him unless you’re looking directly at it.

  43. BucEmUp Says:

I wish the coaches were smart enough to play tighter coverage in the secondary, the entire dline would benefit. This defense is poorly coached

  44. Lamarcus Says:

That interview with Gmc and Rick Stroud has to be a shot down by any gmc fanboys. What does he means by ” I have to be a better leader”?

What’s this his narrative for last year?? It didn’t happen

  45. Joe Says:

That interview with Gmc and Rick Stroud has to be a shot down by any gmc fanboys. What does he means by ” I have to be a better leader”?

What’s this his narrative for last year?? It didn’t happen

Says that every year. Broken record. His play works for Joe.

  46. GMC hater Says:

GMC trade for Alvin Kamara incoming!

  47. Defense Rules Says:

I still don’t get why so many want to trade McCoy. In 2017 he was in on 75% of Bucs’ defensive snaps, considerably more than any other DLineman. If you add his sacks (6) and tackles for loss (9) together (i.e., penetration with results?), you come up with 15. Who’s the next closest DLineman you ask? That would be McDonald with 6 (that’s 5 sacks & 1 TFL). Fatty Baker you ask? He had a TOTAL of 1.5 ALL SEASON (as in 0.5 sacks & 1 TFL). Ayers had the most of any DE with 5 (2 sacks & 3 TFLs), one-third as many as GMC while playing nearly as much.

Point being: 1 Bucs’ player (GMC) had almost 40% of the Bucs sacks & tackles for loss combined last season … 1 player out of 11 DLinemen who played last year. So on a team that has the worst-performing DLine in the NFL, y’all want to trade the most productive player for 2 or even 3 unknowns? I’m sure that at the end of the 2018 season, after our Bucs go 4-12 or maybe even worse, Dr Phil would be asking y’all “And how did that work out for ya?”

  48. DB55 Says:

    Def

He also makes more more than the entire dline combined.

  49. DB55 Says:

    Lamarcus

AND he was being kind actually the 2017 Miami game was his best game in years.

  50. gotbbucs Says:

Of you have to try to convince people that he’s actually good, then he probably isnt.

  51. Lamarcus Says:

    Got Bucs

Yes I been saying that for along time. If he is the hype why is it a debate?

  52. Arealbucsfan Says:

I’ve always liked McCoy, but it’s time to trade him. He’s proven to be a selfish player only caring about his stats. I’ve never really seen anything from him that makes me think wow. When he was injured the dline played the same. Time to trade the guy

  53. Lamarcus Says:

    Db55

I used to love gmc until 2014. Gmc true leadership stood out to me That year

This team has tried everything. I don’t buy we never put talent around him. Whats proven those acquisitions somehow decline when they got here. Gmc is a 3 tech and 3 tech only. So I don’t buy that coaches don’t put him in the right position.

No one can prove the very fact that McDonald is more valuable guy for your dollar.

  54. Dark Mominick Says:

    Fools https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KANTAaz4i3M

  55. Dark Mominick Says:

lol i didnt know greg schiano was dyslexic

  56. BuccLuck Says:

So a coach who game plans for gmc twice a year had to go back and reference film from 2014 to showcase his “greatness.” That’s supposed to make us feel better?

Anyone interested in a good take on Gerald mccoy needs to go listen to another podcast about the Buccaneers that Ira Kaufman was a guest on. I won’t give any plugs since this is The joe Bucs fan website but the podcast I’m referencing is recorded by a former buccaneer that played offensive guard. Ira couldn’t muster much of defense for Mccoy even though he’s a huge mccoy supporter.

Nevertheless, I love Ira and look forward to all of his content! Keep up the great work sage!

  57. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I’m all for having the best players possible. I like McCoy, but if we can get younger, healthier and better, we should do it. That said, he is not our problem.

The rest of the defensive line is our problem. I see no point in creating another hole unless we do it to acquire high draft picks…like a 1st and 3rd.

  58. 99.97.92.55.47.40.28.20.7 Says:

Mccoy is a phenom. but the pieces shouldnt matter. it is all about the system.

Patriots are the bar. They are the solution. to win in this league takes an institution and system more than players. everyone on an active nfl roster is good. if you drop the bucs into foxboro for a year, they make the playoffs. period. it’s the Patriot Way.

winning starts from the top down, not at DT.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  59. unbelievable Says:

    clueless fans make clueless statements.

The only talented person that ever lined up next to GMC was Bennet. His numbers have been exactly the same since he left.

Everyone else you idiots mention haven’t done anything since they left either (and no, 1 single game in 1 season from Clayborn doesn’t count). All those other guys had 1 good season their entire career, stop acting like they regressed when they got here. Get a grip.

If you could get a 2nd or 1st round pick for him, I’d say go for it- but you can’t.
