National Media Sours On Gerald McCoy

January 8th, 2018

Goose egg

The 50 esteemed media gurus across the nation who vote for the All-Pro teams and the official NFL individual honors have abandoned Gerald McCoy.

The votes are in. And it’s not pretty.

This season’s All-Pro ballots were revealed and not one on the national media panel cast a vote for McCoy.

Here’s who got votes at defensive tackle: The top-3 vote-getters earn the coveted All-Pro honor.

Aaron Donald, Los Angeles Rams, 49; Cam Heyward, Pittsburgh, 21; Fletcher Cox, Philadelphia, 11; Calais Campbell, Arizona, 10; Geno Atkins, Cincinnati, 4; Kawann Short, Carolina, 2; Damon Harrison, New York Giants 1; Ndamukong Suh, Miami, 1; Everson Griffen, Minnesota, 1

Last year, McCoy got seven votes and tied for fourth among defensive tackles. Donald, Harrison and Suh bested him.

For the 2015 season, McCoy also pulled a goose egg in the voting. He had made All-Pro teams from 2012 through 2014.

Yes, McCoy is getting pushed aside in the national conversation at his position. Through the past three seasons, Aaron Donald, Geno Atkins and Kawann Short lead the NFL in sacks for defensive tackles.

McCoy turns 30 next month and has 109 starts on his tires. Can someone please get him some legitimate help on the defensive line before it’s too late?

Well, when you’re the WORST defense in the NFL, you probably don’t deserve any votes.

  3. ZK Says:

It’s time to trade this guy for some picks.

  4. tmaxcon Says:

Cancer93 is the main reason the losing culture is alive and flourishing in Tampa. Between glazers and the crying clown there is No hope

  5. AlteredEgo Says:

ZK…I’d be OK with that….and even better if the front office publicly announced….We Are Rebuilding !…..we are not one off season of draft picks and free agent signings from the type of teams that start playing next weekend when the play offs actually start…..
I would also be very very tempted to trade down from #7 and grab additional picks…….rebuilding is a work in progress

  6. tmaxcon Says:

    Z k

30 year old overpaid career losers with long injury histories have no trade values especially ones who have quit on multiple coaches

  7. tmaxcon Says:

    Joe

Get him help is a tired and failed battle cry from fanboys led by yourself who cannot accept their failed superhero sucks the life and will to win from every player brought in to help… for 8 years bucs have brought in numerous free agents who regress playing next to the crying clown. Wake up… it’s time to move on from cancer93 take a conditional 6th rd pick for this bum and end the losing culture

  8. ManzielMadness Says:

Kinda off topic, but isn’t Everson Griffin a DE? Or does he kick inside like Gholston/Ayers?

  9. DB55 Says:

    ^^^^^^^This^^^^^^^^

Not even top 10, Joe!!!!! Not even top 10.

  10. Bucsfan951 Says:

Tmaxi: I feel bad for your ex wife and your kids that you barely see. Where I come from, you’d be called an eff boy. Look it up

  11. Bucsfanman Says:

tmax- A blind man can see that we have no talent on the d-line! Help? Are you talking about the used-up FA band-aids they keep trotting in here like the “Beastly” non-beasting Ayers?! Baker?!!!
    C’mon man!
I agree about GMC’s trade value though. You know what that means right? That’s right tmax, your favorite player will be a Buc FOREVER!!!!!!
    Bwah-ha-ha-haaaaa!!!

  12. tmaxcon Says:

Come up with some new material. Just another gmc nuthugger butt hurt because I’m always right

  13. doolnutts Says:

He is on a 4-12 team that was correct me if I am wrong 32nd in the league on defense. I like the guy and it is a shame his prime is being wasted by this franchise.

I really hope we get a clue and get some real DE/DT help this offseason…

  14. tmaxcon Says:

    Bucsfanman

I thought you wanted bucs to win. They have proven they cant win with captain blowout cancer93 wearing the C

  15. Lamarcus Says:

What ever happened to GMC being this different type of leader as he proclaim before the season?

See. Ppl don’t bash GMC for no reason. Even All pro voters are on to him

  16. tmaxcon Says:

Gmc fanboys are on thier last legs with this heartless quitter they support… thankfully the end is near… you nuthuggers really struggle to understand the difference between greatness and popularity

  17. Lamarcus Says:

    Ellis wyms > gmc

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

If GMC is as bad as Tmax thinks he is…..how in the world are we going to get any picks for him…..we’d be lucky to receive a 7th round 2020 conditional pick.

Then again, Tmax could be wrong and we would get a decent trade for him.

I would not be opposed to a trade….but not because GMC is a bad player…..but because of his age, salary and the possible draft pick(s) we would receive that would help us continue to rebuild from the disaster Dominick years.

  19. AlteredEgo Says:

if only Jameis was as timely, consistent and accurate as tmax…LOL….

  20. Bucsfan951 Says:

You’re telling me to come up with something new? You gotta be kidding me, baby girl! I knew you’d come back with gmc fanboy and butthurt. You’re so predictable! All you do is criticize but don’t ever have a solution. Don’t worry baby girl, I’ll still call you out every chance I get!

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

Get rid of GMC if you want to..You sure as hell better have one hell of a replacement! Everytime he misses a game, our Defense collapses even further. Go right ahead..trade him. Let him wreck haboc on a team with other hungry Defensive linemen. Besides, its the..BUC WAY!!!

  22. tmaxcon Says:

    Tampabaybucfan

I have never been wrong… ever

Onfield results prove im always right

  23. mike10 Says:

Can someone please trade him for some much needed defensive talent, before it’s too late.

Hopefully another team sees as much in McCoy as Joe does

  24. DB55 Says:

we’d be lucky to receive a 7th round 2020 conditional pick.
    ————————-
Very true unless of course you find some dumbass suckers like the Bucs to take him off your hands but I don’t think even Cleveland is that stupid. Being that stupid is a southern thing, no doubt.

  25. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Joe

Any truth to the rumor that during the year, that the defense was going to start running more 3-4 and GMC93 complained and had a bad attitude much like when he was stripped of his title of “face of the franchise” and he would mope and not pay attention and would stand off to the side while the “TEAM” was meeting and huddling??????????

If this is true, I have a huge problem with that!!!!!! I am tired of watching, that we have to run a 4-3 defense because GMC93 is on the roster, only to watch him get shut down game after game while the rest of the defensive roster would be more effective in 3-4!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. tmaxcon Says:

    M j

The stats proof otherwise and the film proves bucs defenders play harder and more intense without the crying clown on the field. Bottom line the defense collapses with or without her

  27. Lamarcus Says:

Gmc =. Role player chasing Chidi Ahanaotu ghost. Nothing more or nothing less.

Watch. I bet he is going to throw Msmith under the bus again for not getting a ALL PRO vote.

  28. tmaxcon Says:

    Realist

Given the crying clowns me first selfish attitude what you heard is easy to believe…

Watch instead of resting his yearly injuries cancer93 will be in front of every camera he finds at the meaningless pro bowl

  29. DB55 Says:

Get rid of GMC if you want to..You sure as hell better have one hell of a replacement! Everytime he misses a game, our Defense collapses even further
    ——————
Just not true, statistically there is no drop off. In fact the defense tends to play much tougher and with some pride. Imo

As for replacing him I think you could replace him with an “LOL Big Surprise” they’re far more menacing. Lololol Look it up.

  32. Mike Johnson Says:

Stats are for Losers. The eye sees different. Every game he misses, Our defense has played badly..even moreso without him. WINNING IS ALL THAT MATTERS..A Great Lombardi quote!

  33. tmaxcon Says:

    M j

Do want us to setup a go fund me page for eye tests and glasses so you can see more clearly… there is only positives without cancer93 on field. She is a huge liability against the run which will only get worse and the team plays much harder without her

  34. Bucsfan951 Says:

That was such a lame analogy/attempt at a joke, baby girl maxi. Call your kids today!!!

  35. tmaxcon Says:

Cancer93 has not a single meaningful win in his ENTIRE CAREER…. UNDISPUTED Fact

  37. Mike Johnson Says:

Tmax..Please tell me who plays better thsn GMC on our Defensive line..I’ll wait..why YOU..Lie!

  38. DB55 Says:

Joe I’ll give you credit I’m surprised you even posted this. GMC’s check must not have cleared this month?

  39. DB55 Says:

Clinton McDonald statistically plays as well as McIceCream for 1/4 the price. Suck on that lollipop mr Johnson.

  40. tmaxcon Says:

Being the best piece of trash in the garbage can does not make him great its still garbage… He is a good player who has never been a leader yet is gifted the C year in and year out.. team needs driven winners not me first camera hounds

  41. Bucsfan951 Says:

HAHA baby girl, you couldn’t handle my wife. She doesn’t go for eff boys like yourself. Unlike you, I treat my wife good and am there for my kids. Pick up the phone and make the call. I’m sure they’d love to hear from their dead beat dad

  42. DB55 Says:

    Mike

My bad you don’t like stats. Well look up the 2 goal line stands we had this year and you’ll notice gmc is nowhere to be found. As in he is not in the game. In fact if your eyes are good then you’ve noticed that the ONLY time the line holds is when baker and McDonald are holding it.

  43. tmaxcon Says:

    951

I’ve never had kids but its probably safe to say those of us with jobs have paid for your kids… your welcome

  44. Mike Johnson Says:

Just as I surmised. You..Avoided the question. Surely you graduated from..Trump University!

  45. Mike Johnson Says:

Thanks for avoiding or..Spinning the question there Tmax.

  46. tmaxcon Says:

    Mj

Did not spin nor avoid just stated the facts comparing garbage to garbage equals garbage.

  47. darin Says:

Yeah nobody on the worst defense deserves votes. Of course the reason is the same its the worst defense, mike smith. Maybe theyll have mccoy drop into coverage next year on his way to the qb. Stunt away boys. Weve seen smith cant adjust and plan without great edge rushers. Maybe, just maybe, if he gets one he can become the 31st worst defense. Hey smitty, please go rewatch the titans chiefs playoff game. Blitzing linebackers when your edge doesnt get there is a beautiful thing. You should try it out, at least once. You might actually enjoy it! Thanks

  48. Bucsfan951 Says:

  49. tmaxcon Says:

Bucs will never win with such a soft me first camera hound wearing the c

  50. Buc believer Says:

At last everyone in the national media is seeing what Buc fans have known for a while… McCoy is all gums and flash and VERY little production. Hopefully Joes love fest with Batman is coming to an end.

  51. Bucsfan951 Says:

Thanks, baby girl! My kids and myself owe you a debt of gratitude for our government cheese and Obama phones.

  52. tmaxcon Says:

    951

Your welcome… now go pick up some aluminum cans and start paying us back

  53. Mike Johnson Says:

Once upon a time we were the best Defense in the NFl. And always hung around the top 5. Now, we are arguably the worst Defense and we definitely bring up the bottom 5. Yet..we want to talk about jameis woes consistently or RB problems. We have scored enough points in 5 maybe even 6 games to win this year in the NFL. But we could not stop anybody. Go ahead Bucs, get another receiver, a RB, or even a kicker. This team will not go anywhere until our Defense is feared again. And it starts with giving DC Smith his Hawaiian shirt/shades/ and Mai tai. What good is scoring 30 when your opponent scores 31. Koetter and Smitty for President!!

  54. Bucsfan951 Says:

So I was right when I called you a single man, living in a double wide in Texas, kids that don’t talk to you, ex wife that hates you. I’m sure you have 2-3 dogs. This is where things get tricky. You might own your own business since you’re so opinionated. But then again, people who own their own businesses also have solutions which you never seem to give us. I’m sure it’s a job that doesn’t require much thinking ie shirt maker, window tinter, painter. Not saying those are bad jobs. How many of these did I hit on, baby girl?

  55. Bucsfan951 Says:

Pick up aluminum cans 😂😂😂 your jokes get more lame as we go on. Just stop, baby girl. #makethephonecall

  56. AlteredEgo Says:

Is tmax a Joe smurf ?

  57. tmaxcon Says:

    Mj

We had a top 5 defense and underachieved 2 playoff wins during the failed dungy era then only 3 (All in one year) under the gruden years. Tampa is not a defensive town its a losing town. Franchise qb win multiple championships defensive firsr teams are 1 and done….

Please name me 1 defensive dynasty with multiple championships…. before you spew Steelers go check how many offensive players are in hall of fame.

  58. DB55 Says:

    951

You want a solution trade gmc for an ice cream sandwich, WAIT!!! Trade gmc and a $5 bill for an ice cream sandwich then find a way to trade for Leonard Williams. Boom problem solved.

  59. Buc believer Says:

Has everyone of McCoy’s supporters gone crazy??? The dude should be the laughingstock of the NFL for crying on the bench! Can you imagine Dick Butkus crying on the bench? Or Larry Csonka? Or Brett Favre or any of the REAL football greats?? The dude is a PANSY!!!

  60. DB55 Says:

    Tmax

    Ray Lewis and the ravens.

  61. tmaxcon Says:

Not bacck to bacvk… 2 separate teams

  62. Conte Piscatelli Says:

So let’s be honest, who is going to trade is for GMC. Remember he refuses to play any position other than 3tech. So that eliminates at least half the league that run 3-4 base defenses, many others run some sort of 2 gap 4-3 wish doesn’t fit his game. Given his contact no one is paying that much to see if he can work on their scheme. So maybe the cowboys and 4 or 5 other teams might be interested. Ok now remove every team in the list above because he wouldn’t be considered an upgrade. Doesn’t exactly sound like a bidding war to me. At best, maybe a conditional 3rd round pick.

  63. AceofAerospace Says:

It’s already too late for GMC. Next season is a right off. The following season will be a new head coach, new defense and rebuilding. I’ve never been for trading GMC before, but I believe he should be now while he still has an upside. In two years, the Bucs may wish they had.

  64. DB55 Says:

    True 10 years apart.

  65. tmaxcon Says:

ZK…I’d be OK with that….and even better if the front office publicly announced….We Are Rebuilding !…..

REBUILDING?….WTF?…..we weren’t rebuilding last year now were we?….this team was held back by coaching!!!!…..

a team that is rebuilding are the bears!!!!….

a team that picked #2 last year but picks #8 this year(we pick #7 BTW)…..a team we thought we were so much better than….they are in current rebuild mode…..not the BUCS….GO BUCS!!!!

  67. Mike Johnson Says:

GMC is one of our best players on Defense. There are perhaps 3 or 4 others. Tmax hatred for the guy stems from his media interviews. The problem is not GMC. The problem is our pass rush, us not being able to..set other D linemen up for sacks and our Defensive Coordinator..Pressbox Smitty!

  68. 813bucboi Says:

    951

tmax is more of a cat person…..lol….GO BUCS!!!!

  69. Bucsfan951 Says:

Baby girl!!! You’re not in my head at all. I’m just exposing you for the fraud you are! My mom said thanks for the reminder for my meds 😉 now let me get back to work… I’m actually a psychologist and have a phone appointment with your kids in 15.

  70. AceofAerospace Says:

    Write-off.

  71. WyldKat Says:

It’s not that GMC is bad. It’s just that he sure as hell wasn’t top 5 this year.

  72. HarlemBuc Says:

I can’t help but think how much faster the Buccaneers can get better if we trade McCoy and trade down from the 7 overall pick

  73. 813bucboi Says:

but I do think its time to move on from GMC…..we can lose without him….

im tired of seeing him shoot the gap only to have the RB run right behind him allowing the center or guard to get up to the second level and block KWON….GO BUCS!!!!

  74. Bucsfan951 Says:

@55: I would be all for that! I’m not defending gmc one bit. I’d would’ve already liked to see a d line built around him at this point but it’ll take 2-3 years to build a quality d line with depth and by that time, gmc will be too old. I reluctantly say trade him now for what you can get and move on. The trenches on both sides of the ball need to be fixed/infused with younger blood. These next two years should be dedicated to fixing the trenches. Sprinkle in a cb or two when you can.

  75. Bucsfan951 Says:

No. He’s a dog guy for sure. He has 2-3 of them and they are his life. He doesn’t see his kids much so those are his fur babies 😂😂😂

  76. '79Defense Says:

tmaxcon, you say “Come up with some new material” to 951, yet you repeatedly use “clown” and “cancer ALL the time. I like McCoy, but in applying your own overused descriptions, you’re like the Gerald McCoy of this site.

If you’re going to bash the guy, come up with something new.

  77. Bucsfanman Says:

Not for nothing but Luke Kuechly wept on multiple occasions.
No, it’s NOT a good look for a football player, I agree. He’s still the best d-lineman we have, by far. Don’t give me “Clinton McDonald” either, the dude played 70% less snaps.

  78. DB55 Says:

    951

You can’t debate so you take personal shots at a dudes wife and kids? That’s a bitch move my g.

  79. DB55 Says:

Don’t give me “Clinton McDonald” either, the dude played 70% less snaps.
    ——–
McDonald 5 sacks 3 mil per yr
McIceCream 6 sacks 13 mil per yr

WAKE THE FCK UP PEOPLE!!!!!!! Jeezus H Christ. The dude is sweet as molasses, so sweet it’s disgusting.

  80. Lord Cornelius Says:

lol figured this topic would get a ton of comments.

IMO our front 4 pass rush is definitely worse with McCoy out; but the run defense is better; because the DTs maintain gap integrity moreso than McCoy does.

McCoy seems to just want to shoot the gap and rush the passer every play if he could; and that may be the reason he wanted to avoid a 3-4? He wants to just stay in his lane and do his thing he likes?

I kind of laughed at the idea of McCoy getting frustrated with the D-line coaching; considering no D-line he’s been a part of has ever been any good as a whole unit. Maybe you should listen to the f*cking coaches because of that fact? Maybe your style of play is not conducive to others around you doing well; and maybe you should be open to changing it up?

He has strength to rush as well but for whatever reason is just completely taken out of plays too often. It’s almost as if teams use his quick step against him in that manner.

  81. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Im not stupid to think that the bucs couldnt use GMC on the DL he is ok, but if its true that he didnt want to bump outside in a 3-4, than that is a huge reason that ppl soured on him and his act, which is ridiculous, aaron donald the other night took over that friggin game as a top DT or defensive player does like d brooks would or the LB for the broncos or reggie white, i have never seen GMC do that or get pissed when the bucs lose which is all they have done since he has been here, its a shame that licht has no clue because he could have built a team by trading several players when they had value like Doug, GMC and LVD and gotten tons of #1s and 2s for these guys but now you cant get jack squat and the bucs will be a 5 win team again

  82. Dooshlarue Says:

I can’t wait for the day we rid ourselves of the Ice Cream Man.
I would be ecstatic if we could get a 5th round or higher pick for him.

    Come on JL…..make it happen.
Build a nasty DL that refuses to lose!!!!

  83. tmaxcon Says:

gmc’s only strength is is great first step to nowhere.

not a single meaningful win in his entire career… enough said.

Cancer93 legacy is the undisputed face of the basement years and nothing will change that…

  84. tmaxcon Says:

    Mike Johnson

first I don’t hate GMC I hate his soft arse game. My hatred is based purely on results I could careless about all the meaningless off field crap and his fraudulent smile. The dude is not a driven winner and is softer than ice cream that alone is why I can’t stand the overpaid unproductive clown.

GMC has quit on 4 coaches. fanboys the film does not lie… that is not a role model unless you want your kids to be selfish me first quitters

  88. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    DB55

    LMFAO

  89. Lord Cornelius Says:

Beyond the on-the-field critique; I think most that don’t like McCoy have that opinion due to his personality / off-field persona / and I can’t fault that at this point; based on all that I’ve heard or read over the years:

-Never seems to give a sh1t about losing
-Comments constantly indicate he is obsessed with personal stats and personal awards like the probowl which is not a meaningful award anymore
-His most winning season – was one he supposedly didn’t enjoy the most? wtf?
-He didn’t like stepping over for Winston as the face of the team
-He seems resistant to coaching at times

I mean how can you list those things above and say this guy has nothing to do with our losing culture?

It is kind of weird – that his rookie year – before he became the “leader” or whatever – was the most wins ever under his era; and the best defense we have had in the last 10 years (19 PPG). A lot of that was the schedule but still.

We had Bennet/Stylez White/Roy Miller on that line that year as well

  90. tmaxcon Says:

the bottom line is folks it would be awesome if the gmc nuthuggers could squash us so called haters with facts and domiant performances but they can’t. all they got is the He’s good in the community and he makes meaningless pro bowls.

gmc has NEVER dominated anything. a few first have sacks and then disappear is his preferred method. Then there is the MULTIPLE flat performances that have led to some of the most embarrassing blowouts in league and team history yet time and time again the highest paid defender, team captain and supposed leader gets free pass after free pass….

I don’t need new material because the main issue the bucs face is the same thing over and over the soft overpaid leaders with no heart and no desire to win led by the glazer clowns and the crying clown Captian blowout cancer93

  91. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Listen I was all for trading him – when his value was high two years ago.
But quick dialogue – what’s on the market to replace the kid?

  92. tmaxcon Says:

    db55

it’s a shame about Hawaiian… He used to be a great poster before he was infected or injected by cancer93 disease. It turned his brain to mush fast.

  93. DB55 Says:

Leonard Williams. How bout the dude from Denver Wolfe.

How about an air dancer inflatables like the ones you see at the car dealer. Truth is that is exactly what he looks like as he’s being blocked out of the play.

  94. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Do U Make a Serious Push for:
    • Dontari Poe – DT 27
    • Bennie Logan – DT 28

Or Sign one of my Polynesian Brothas to groom Vita Vea?
    • Star Lotulelei DT 28
    • Haloti Ngata DT 33

Or do you get into a bidding war w/ NY & SEA over Sheldon Richardson?

Sure and let’s get Williams too. I’m willing to give up picks for players with a track record than relying on rookies.

  97. tmaxcon Says:

    LUV

How about Poe and Lotulelei bucs have plenty of money especially after Jason Licht FLEECES Jerry and Steve Jones for a 6th round pick for the cancer93. getting rid of cancer93 and his bloated salary has to be first priority for bucs this off-season..

day of trade headlines: Bucs end losing culture! Ship McCoy to Dallas!

    Dontari Poe | Sealver Siliga

    I can dig that.

Gotta bring heat of the edge though.

I’m on the fence on moving him for the same reason. If we could get a R3 pick I’d probably do it – but that’s not going to be an immediate impact player unless it’s a RB.

We’re probably best off just adding pieces around him; and taking him out of goal line situations lol.

In the end the only DT we’re moving is Baker probably. I’d think we keep McDonald (good value relative to production) and are probably stuck with McCoy.

I like Bennie Logan / Star / but that’d be a ton of $$ in the DT position. It’s more likely we stand somewhat pat and go after DEs if I had to guess. If Chubb is gone I’d be happy with a trade back and grabbing DT Vea or a Clemson DE or OG Nelson if he somehow is still available after the move.

It’s hard to assess until we see what we do in FA. We have to be aggressive as h3ll and sore up as many positions as possible so that we have less obvious needs going into the draft. We should have like $90 mill to spend after cuts; which is plenty to extend ME/Kwon and sign a few top dollar FAs. If we can sign a stud LG & C then all we may need to do in the draft is take a developmental RT/OT behind Dotson in a late rounds.

I’d like to get a RB from this class no matter what though. I’m not that high on Crowell. Dion Lewis is cool but not sure he could be a feature back – although he’d compliment Barber well.

In FA we should be able to address CB/O-line I think – in terms of available players out there. We HAVE to sign any DE we can get basically as well. S would be nice but it’s hard to evaluate our secondary with no pass rush.

And me taking personal shots… hardly! Don’t get mad because I’m poking fun at your butt boy. Let baby girl fight on his own. Stay in your lane

I just want a more dynamic backfield brotha.

    Dion’s a triple threat.
He’s a legitimate runner between the tackles (Sims? No So much)
U can flare him out wide.
And U can line him up in the slot.

Plus he shows up bigtime – in the crunch (Kid LUV’s the brightlights)
We need more guys that can rise up – when the heat is on.

    @mike johnson

trade gmc to the Raiders since they are in a over paying mode for a 1st and a conditional pick in 2019!!!!!!!

With the draft ammo go and get a Man among Boys!!!!!!! Vita Vea!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  109. TheBucsAnthem Says:

GMC is killing this defenses spirits.

They’re all like “Meng…..GMC is getting 100 mil, but he plays like 4 mil????”

…..don’t you all see how that brings down the morale of the rest of the defense?

  110. LUVMYBUCS Says:

If our backfield depth chart looked like this in 2018

    Powerbacks
    -Peyton Barber | Damien Harris

    Scatbacks
    -Dion Lewis | Martez Carter

We should have no problems keeping the defense on its heels.

    Maybe GMC to Minnesota?

Yeah why are we building around this guy if no defense is producing and no D-line is adequate? It’s just confusing.

I was really high on Sheldon Rankins.. I was ok with VHIII; but it’s been brutal to watch multiple regimes spending picks / capital on the secondary and ignoring the D-line for the most part or using FA pickups. 2015 was a great D-lineman draft – we should have taken at least 2-3 instead of just Spence. F*cking Aguayo pick..

The best defenses in the league are built using the opposite philosophy of the Bucs – build up your D-line / front 7 and then piece together a secondary around it.

For one – no great secondary can overcome a QB with 5-7 second to pass.
Second – how can you fairly evaluate how good your secondary is when the pressure is that pathetic?

  114. D-Rome Says:

It’s too late for GMC thanks to repeated failures by Rock Star and Jason Licht.

That makes you no better then those snowflake weak backboned folks who have an agenda, just the same as you. When teams no longer game plan for McCoy against us, then I will observe that he has fallen to the next level of nfl talent.

I just think imo that our pass rush problem comes down to this:

    Gholston is a 34 end
    Baker 34 end
    Sigilia is 34 nt

But we play Gholston as 43 end( no sacks go figure) and Baker has to play nose ALL BECAUSE OF GMC NOT WANTING TO PLAY DE

Buffalo game we had Spence lined up as 34 end and gmc in the middle. Gtfoh

  122. DB55 Says:

Lake I’ve been saying that for weeks. Gmc isn’t even the best 3tech in our division much less top 5 in the league. K. Short, Jarrett then GMC. And even then this year gmc got out played by his back up.

  123. 99.97.92.55.47.40.28.20.7 Says:

GMC is one of the most talented there ever was – squandered with undisciplined coaching, terrible personnel decisions around him, and a pick-tossing QB.

I see clayborn in the P.O. Bennett too but we never gave gmc any help. Child please. GMC’s worst sack season came when he played with Bennett so idk wtf you’re talking about.

  125. Dexfields22 Says:

It’s amazing how many signature games Donald have and McCoy don’t have one!!!

  126. LakeLand Says:

    DB55

Grady Jarrett has 55 Tackles, 10 STF and 4 Sacks. With Dontari Poe playing next to him, they pushes the pocket. That allows the Edge Rushers, one on one matchups. It also keep blockers off the Linebackers, gives them range to make plays.

  127. DB55 Says:

I just like how I always see him behind the los on short yardage and big plays. Kid has been balling out since the Sb last yr.

  128. Not there yet Says:

Hahahaha the defensive leader and supposedly best player on the team and Joe says please get him some help. We drafted najee goode and means who are both in the playoffs. It’s really not the players we are drafting it’s the pathetic coaching staffs we’ve hired for the last decade. They’ll be another change soon because once again we have a stubborn pigheaded coach my scheme coaching staff. I hate the Winston saved koetters job

There’s no help coming this year for GMC. Trust me it won’t matter who we have on the edge GMC production will not change, it’s the running excuse he has for being so average

  129. JD Says:

Why do people hate Gerald McCoy so much?

  130. BigHogHaynes Says:

^^^for TrumpMaxCon it’s not because of his play, it’s the money …the skin color, his doing it like he wanna do it… No player will be the best for entire career…GMC earned his contract, simple as that..there is no cancer with GMC…fall back TrumpMaxCon…TAKE A KNEE …KEEP AMERICA FREE!!!

  131. tnew Says:

Gonna drop some truth on here. I went this off season and watched a ton of tape on GMC vs other 3 techs, including Sapp. The problem is the Bucs are choosing to run the defense around GMC and the three technique is too easy to negate when playing without consistently engaging the blocker. Even as good as Sapp was he maintained gap control first and foremost, then beat the block.

If any of you have the NFL package, go back and watch our streak (aside from the game he missed) of great defensive play last season. GMC played much differently. He was engaging the interior lineman at the expense of possible sacks. The outside rushers and blitzes where able to get pressure on the QB because there was a strong middle push. Then go watch the Cowboys and Saints game when he decided to step up. You remember, the ones that kept us out of the playoffs. Brees could step up in the pocket to one side or the other avoiding the outside rush because someone was trying to split gaps. Ezekiel Elliot is had the best game of his career.

The splitting the gaps technique is good for a few individual splash plays but most NFL offensive lineman are way to good not to use this tendency against him. When the middle of the line looses integrity it is pretty much a jail break. Our defense is designed to free up GMC and let him make the plays. As far as three techniques go, all of them get doubled on most plays so I don’t want to hear about that excuse. It is just part of the responsibility of the position. The best ones split the doubles or hold ground. This is not the way GMC plays. This is either coaching or just his game.

At the start of the year, I was VERY hopeful his referring to the need to elevate his game meant that he was going to play a more honest/less gambling three tech. I hoped he wasn’t going to try to make so many individual plays. Call me a homer but I love his personality and enjoy his interviews but the style of play that he plays/or is coached just creates way more stress on the entire line.

I wish I was wrong but 10 years of play is proving this correct. I would love for him to either move to a 3-4 end or even a 4-3 end and use his get off and penetration ability from the outside or for him to use his get off to unbalance lineman at the point of attack. I have said for seasons, the Bucs need GMC to be a special defense and I stand by that statement, but he either must change his strategy or be coached differently.

  132. PJVBucfan Says:

I don’t call him the Gummy Bear with my friends for nothing. All gums and soft.

Meaningful goal line stands he’s pushed aside. Meaningful plays he’s non existent. Leader, nope. Nice guy, yes (who wants that on D, unless your name is Derrick Brooks and the teammates call you the Don).

This guys losing, care free, want to have fun attitude have seeped into the entire defense for years. We will have a mentally weak and fragile d until he is gone. When things are going great he speaks up. Yet to hear from him when we suck.

    Great leader and teammate.

  133. RustyRhinos Says:

    Gap integrity ?
If our other three defensive tackles are so good at it then why don’ they have
33 solo tackles and 13 tackles for a loss.
Seems like 100 players are listed for TFL and they got down to 7 and none of our DT were listed except McCoy.
So lets look at solo tackles ,the one on ones.
    MacDonald 18
Baker 24 We do know he crossed the line of scrimmage at least once.
    Silga 3

  136. RickinFtMyers Says:

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Gerald McCoy isn’t a cancer, a bad teammate, or a downer in the locker room. In fact, he’s a great player.

That said, there are two indisputable facts.

First, since McCoy was drafted the Bucs have changed everything including GMs, head coaches, defensive coordinators, assistant coaches, and the entire team. Everything about the Bucs has been changed out, sometimes several times over, except the ownership and McCoy.

The second indisputable fact is that since the Bucs drafted McCoy in 2010 they have enjoyed exactly two winning seasons: 10-6 in 2010 and last year’s 9-7. Of course, the Bucs haven’t made it to the playoffs either.

As previously stated, the only things that haven’t changed since 2010 are the ownership and McCoy. Now, unless you’ve got a cool $1 billion+ in your checking account the ownership isn’t going to change. That leaves one thing to change and that’s McCoy. Is McCoy responsible for all those losses? No way, obviously. Still we’ve changed everything else and the losses keep mounting. Maybe it’s time to change our “3” technique DT and see what happens.

After all things can’t get any worse.
