It Is The Little Things

December 24th, 2017

Painful penalty on a fake punt.

Winners take care of the small things.

Losers find ways to lose.

And losing often happens with little things pile up.

That was the theme from two former Bucs tight ends who work for the Buccaneers Radio Network, Dave Moore and Anthony Becht.

Towards the end of yet another nutkick loss, Moore noted, “Not being able to finish drives, not keeping your composure, it makes it hard to break through.”

Yeah, like making penalties in the red zone. Try not pretending to be a turnstile that allows a sack. Making just one more crisp pass, or a receiver not turning around quick enough to pull in a touchdown pass.

It’s always something. And that is why the Bucs continue to lose.

“If you keep the Panthers within a touchdown the whole game, pretty soon they are going to figure it out,” Becht said.

That’s what happens when you settle for field goals instead of touchdowns because the team isn’t disciplined enough. That’s what happens when you have a lazy slob of a defensive tackle who jumps offsides. That’s what happens when your special teams captain puts a receiver in a headlock on a fake punt.

It’s what losers do.

The Bucs are 4-11.

Merry Christmas!

If Gruden does become HC, he will not have the luxury of a solid team like the first time around. But his franchise needs another housecleaning, starting with the clueless GM.

I hate this franchise – literally hate. Embarrassing isn’t the word

  3. Bucssuccs Says:

Ba hum bug! This team is terrible in any way, shape, or form. The only way we would be decent is if we COMPLETELY restart our entire roster, coaching staff, and GM

Please tell me why Koetter took Barber out on that last drive. Doug Martin did squat. Barring injury. Peyton should have got the rock. Geez!

  5. Season Is Over Says:

The “Little Things”? Are we talking about Peyton Barbers YPC today minus the easy long run?

  6. Easy Says:

    That wasn’t PI

I’m sorry but KOETTER has to answer his playcalling CHOKE JOB at the end of the first half. U just got a big play by Humphries, 1st & goal from the 8 w 1:05 left in the half. After that play they let close to 50 seconds off the clock and u called a crappy running play. The next thing u know it’s 5 seconds left and we kick a FG. Regardless of the fumbles Jameis had the Bucs in the lead. The other critical play after Jameis threw from the end zone and threw a dart to Evans after that KOETTER choked again calling seeeps to Martin and wasting a golden opportunity to end the game right there. Instead KOETTER chooses to attempt a long FG i star of pinning them back and punting. I do not believe Cam could have driven for a td if he had to go 85 yards. By missing the FG the Panthers got the ball on the 41 & only had to go 59 yards. I don’t understand the call

Jimmy t the Glazers see it no worries. Koetter is absolutely dreadful. I wanted to like him. Truth is I wasn’t sold after last year. He’s just not a play caller and game manager

  9. npr guy Says:

Koetter has got to go. He is a gutless coach who doesn’t play to win he plays not to lose. Time and time again, game after game, he show this with his gutless predictable play calling. Do you think he would have tried that fake punt like the Carolina Coach did. He was playing to win. The lack of discipline on this team is poor coaching as is the terrible decisions on time management, three times today. I hate to say this but i hope the bucs lose next week to end the season so hopefully it will also end this nightmare of a head coach, who should never been elevated in the first place.

Dirk and staff didn’t make the team tough enough. The kickoff return TD many guys had a shot at tackling or at least slowing Byrd down. These guys are too strong to try and grab their waists. You have to trip them up if you have a bad angle. Jimmy T took the words out of my mouth. That sequence before halftime was botched clock management. DK doesn’t help his team with his red zone offense. They should be much better but the plays are slow to get in and slow developing. The only good play call was the bunch formation throw to Godwin, that was ball wasn’t thrown where it needed to be but it was catchable. Our offense is only good when JW improvises, the normal routes and long developing plays fail. DK isn’t up with the times like a Sean McVea or Jay Gruden. Need to move on from Koetter and Smith, go younger.
