Communication, Not Friction

Talks coach-player relationship.

After Bucs offensive coordinator Todd Monken opened up the can of worms Friday by torching, indirectly, Ian Rapoport’s report on NFL Network exactly a week ago, Jameis Winston, of course, took the lectern minutes after Monken dropped his mic and was asked again about this friction issue between America’s Quarterback and Dirk Koetter.

Jameis believes folks have the definition wrong. It’s not friction, Jameis said, but communication.

“I believe when you are communicating with any player, you’re going to have some disagreements,” Jameis said. “At the end of the day, as long as we come to a solid agreement and we are out there to win football games – at the end of the day it really doesn’t matter.”

Jameis cited his relationship with former Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher and how those two used to jaw at each other during games, sometimes heatedly as an example. Jameis worships Fisher yet at least by optics, it looked at times as if both wanted to strangle each other.

“[A coach] is going to get his point across,” Jameis said. “I’m going to listen and I have to go out there and execute what he wants. You probably see Coach Koetter is very patient with me on the sideline. Coach Fisher was in my grill all the time. You always have different experiences with different coaches, but at the end of the day our relationship is solely about this team and how we can make this team go.”

As Joe has stated, Joe could spend the next half-hour explaining how quarterbacks have had rocky relationships with their coaches in the NFL. It is almost the norm.

What Rapoport’s report tells Joe is that someone or some people sure seem motivated to Pearl Harbor Koetter.

I’ll decide whether to listen or believe anything Jameis Winston says again only after he starts “walking the talk” he makes by improving his play, and is shown to be truthful in J-WUbergate. Until then, he is a B.S. artist and backup-caliber QB who had a chance and couldn’t do it.

I hope jamies bolts and takes evans and godwin with him. there is no hope of any of those guys having success in a glazer clown ran circus. run jameis run you are far better than this pathetic franchise deserves.

  4. Chris Says:

Why are you even here Tmax, you have an obvious dislike of this franchise, well except for Jamris, who you can look the other way on with his faults. Just nothing but blah blah blah, the franchise sucks, Mcoy sucks, the Glazers suck. Go root for the Patriots, I just know you must be a transplant from somewhere else, probably a Northern state judging by your constant biching.

  5. SB Says:

Marv Lewis just announced that he is leaving the Bengals………………….

    Chris

i have earned the right to hate this franchise and voice my opinions… This BS was the last straw this year. If I have to put up with the delusional optimists you can put up with my accurate takes or ignore them your choice. I refuse to lower my standards or continue to make excuses for an organization that I have supported for 4 decades that can’t get it right and never will at this point with glazers in charge.

I do not ignore jameis’s faults you have me confused with cancer93 nuthuggers… Jameis is by far the best quarterback this franchise has ever had. He does not fit the BS living in the past conservative failed dungy offense approach that you all pine for day after day. He is a passionate winner and a gunslinger tampa fan prefers conservative checkdown losers like glennon. oh, I’ll give you they protect the ball better that being said they NEVER give you a chance to win either.

    ou know

When Jameis now talks……all I hear is the sound from the Peanuts Cartoon when the teacher is talking in class “wa wa wa wa wa wa wa”

    ………it all sounds the same.

……and it’s been sounding the same….no one he started licking his fingers because he maybe running outta things to say

Hey, I wonder if KFC wants Jameis to be their next spokesman after this grabbing crotch charge gets dropped ………. “It’s finger-licking good!”

Your comment sounds like something my kids would say after they play a video game

    GROW UP!!!!

  11. JimmyJack Says:

Your always right…….Meanwhile most of your comments are about decades ago. How about instead of worrying who’s right you try being relevant

  12. WyomingBucsFan Says:

Im with ya Tmaxcon. This team is a disgrace to this area. Joe`s are in collusion with Dirk and ownership. This is the most disappointing season in 30ty years. Bring in Gruden or i’m not watching anymore.

  13. AlteredEgo Says:

Tmax. How did you “earn” the right to be here? All I have had to do was register with a screen name…..

  14. Bird Says:

    Everyone

You know that Tmax-hits-a-bong is a troll. He is not a bucs fan. He is here to piss people off. Can’t figure out which team he is a fan of yet. Maybe a saints fan if I had to guess. I do know he still lives in momma s basement. Don’t even give him the time of day

  15. Pickgrin Says:

“i am not a loser, I am the one who is always right”

an insecure, delusional narcissist says what??

  16. Nate Says:

what the ian’s report tells me joe is that hard knocks episode

where koetter told jameis his antics are getting old ….not cute

    just saying ……

  17. Nate Says:

and I hope jameis does well too and cleans his dam act up……but I’m not settling on just him @ qb

tmaxacon. he is the best qb we ever had argument is not a reason to latch on to what has been better than below average

jameis has failed so far to put even a josh freeman season together per td/int ratio

we need to hire gruden draft a qb and all lines to push and help jameis and glazers hire brooks n give him that job you always promised

SURE FIX>…brooks will fix the D and hire the right coordinator….we can go back to 3 playoff appearances 2 div titles in 6 years

BETTER THAN WHAT IT IS NOW JOE

  18. NFLNut Says:

I’m pretty sure Mike Ditika woke up with a few decapitated horse heads in his bed, courtesy of Jim McMahon and than McMahon narrowly escaped some sniper fire on occasion, courtesy of Mike Ditka … Jameis and Koetter are fine

  19. JimmyJack Says:

Nut…..They are not fine. Their offense has failed to produce since they have been together. Gotta show results in this league.

It didn’t work last year and they dedicated every resource they had to fixing it in the offseason. Still not result. It’s not fine, Something is very very wrong.

  20. TonyC Says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if Winston had more success with a type of coach that is a bit more demanding and offers up a scheme that allows for improvisation, is innovative (more uptempo) and preaches urgency.

  21. loggedontosay Says:

In a post on ESPN by Jenna Laine, an idiot claiming to be a Buc fan, like so many on this site, typed that he was done with Jameis Winston. A Denver fan responded by typing, “I will take him… Where do I sign up.” It makes no sense to continue to discuss whether or not In Rapport is correct or not especially, when it is so obvious that Rapoport is correct. It has already been admitted to by three people in the organization. If Jameis leaves, I might finally be able to break the curse of being a Buc fan.

  22. Reach87 Says:

Jamies is fine. He was injured and now he’s getting healthy. His flaws (he has some like all players) are magnified by the losses. More than a few of those losses had nothing to do with him…we get a stop and we win. We don’t fumble a screen, we win; we get a stop, we win, we….you get the idea. That’s the facts, as bad as it hurts and as bad as some of you posers want to blame the QB. We can win this one on Monday…don’t be surprised. Go Bucs!

  23. Mr. Ed Says:

Or Rappapud is looking for an easy scandal to get him attention. Joe STOP TALKING ABOUT IT. There is nothing to see.
