Lions 24, Buccaneers 21

How about your pass-rush-free, comeback Buccaneers!

They showed heart and guile and grit again but found a way to lose and drop their home record to 3-3 this season.

Matthew Stafford, bad hand and all, managed to complete 82 percent of his passes. EIGHTY-TWO!

Stafford was barely breathed upon, not blitzed enough, and finished 36-of-44 for 381 yards with a touchdown and two picks. Same old story. No rush. No chance against a strong QB.

The Bucs (4-9) are a messy, sloppy team, but at least their motor is in tact.

Perhaps that’s a reflection of their very stubborn head coach, who started Doug Martin, arguably the most misguided decision of the Dirk Koetter regime. You could argue wasting the first half on Martin cost the Bucs this tight game.

After Martin logged 10 carries for 26 yards, a fumble and a touchdown, Peyton Barber was given the green light and finished with 12 carries for 58 yards. The Bucs were more dangerous with him in the game. But it wasn’t enough.

America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, again flashed what has become his trademark: poor ball security. One bad pick and a senseless fumble was all on him.

You just can’t do that and expect to win games.

About that pass rush (what pass rush?), it was clearly the worst performance of the season in that department. No sacks, barely a breath on Stafford.

Kudos to Bucs rookies Chris Godwin and Kendell Beckwith for continuing to shine.

Stick with Joe through the day for plenty out of this mess.

    Lol @ the Sucs

  2. Simeon Says:

    4-9 joe

  3. tmaxcon Says:

bad organizations find ways to lose consistently

  4. AlteredEgo Says:

Jameis should study Staffords game today…mechanics….timing…decisions…ball placement….

  5. Mike Johnson Says:

I’m not gonna be as hard on my Bucs As I usually am. They played Harder than I expected. Just did not have enough today. At least the effort was there this time.

  6. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Who is Grudens DC gonna be?
I really think Matt Patricia would be the best hire as our next HC.

  7. Howard Cosell Says:

    @Mike Johnson

I agree! They should get a participation trophy.

  8. BobbyBucs Says:

    #fakenews – Bucs are 4-9

  9. SCBucsFan Says:

This defense, when it needs to hold the other team, is the worst in the NFL. Every time they fold when the pressure is on.

  10. Howard Cosell Says:

Gruden’s not going to coach the Sux, Be realistic please.

  11. passthebuc Says:

Just goes to show that with enough hype, anyone is suspect to over-react. That’s why we have an underperforming JW.
    Remember
you can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time and that’s good enough to be a first-round draft pick.

  12. D-Rome Says:

Joe, you wish the Bucs were 5-8.

It’s going to be a sh*t show next Monday night with Gruden in town.

  13. Pryda...sec 147 Says:

Hey one more bad season but we are developing players in my eyes this team core is strong and we are gonna get better next year we gonna be great for a long time!

  14. Rob Says:

If you count interceptions, so did the human ATM!

  15. Season Is Over Says:

Haha. No one saw the blame being put on Martin from the Joes. Martin ruined the whole season. Lmao. Mr Magoo and his inability to hit a receiver much less in stride is the reason they lost once again.

  16. Buc4life Says:

    Pretty sure they’re 4-9 guy.

  17. EA Says:

This again was a Complete team loss, from the coaches and game time management down the line.

  18. MadMax Says:

Keep playing Beckwith at DE….never know, he just might get it and be our best DE (thats playing) by years end!

  19. MadMax Says:

Oh, and plan on to move on from JW#3….been saying it but wtfdik.

  20. Rrsrq Says:

I’m excited about this team, two years from now, the young players never gave up, but the culture of losing, finding new ways to lose, gets old. New coach, ehhh, but don’t think Gruden is the guy, he is a temporary fix, need fresh coaching

  21. Howard Cosell Says:

    @Pryda

    Pass it over here bro!

  22. passthebuc Says:

    5 turnovers.

  23. LovieBall Says:

    @AlteredEgo

You mean the Stafford that threw two horrible picks and was throwing to wide open recievers all game who got lots of YAC?

  24. Howard Cosell Says:

Who are these shills with the positive comments?
There is no positive. Absolutely devoid of any hope whatsoever.

  25. passthebuc Says:

Why did it take all this time to play Barber???????????????

  26. Dan Says:

4-9 about says it all folks yep

  27. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

If the team doesn’t make the playoffs next year, they should fire the coaches, trade McCoy, and get rid of Jameis

  28. Howard Cosell Says:

I think this team is worse than their 4-9 record dictates.

  29. Kenny Says:

5-8, always the optimist. Kinda like when you guys keep pushing we have the “13th ranked offense”.

  30. Easy Says:

You can’t spell JOKE without JOE

  31. Coleman Souers Says:

The pick targeting Howard was def holding. The pick targeting Jackson was on Jackson not coming back to the ball. The fumble was bad decision making by Winston. Overall Winston looked good imo. Had a few poop decisions, but I feel like he is still trying too hard after seeing o.j. fumble when driving and Martin fumble when driving. He is trying to put the team on his back and is making mistakes because of it. Also, Ryan Smith needs to be benched, he is a liability at best.

  32. passthebuc Says:

Someone told me weeks ago to cheer up,, things could be worse.

So I cheered up and sure enough they got worse.

  33. Howard Cosell Says:

Oh it’s going to get worse. I’d put money on it.

  34. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

please get a new GM to get legit NFL caliber players

  35. orlbucfan Says:

First no more Gruden-is-the-guy. He ain’t. We’ve got coaching problems, not players. Dump Smith. Give Koetter one more year and then can him if he doesn’t improve. This team has a 6-10 year and that’s on the coaches and some others, NOT the players!! They are so much better than this. If I was religious, I’d swear the Bucs were cursed!

  36. not there yet Says:

Ziggy looks like a hero but gotta love the way 77 gives up on the play after simply pushing a guy up field as if you’re not supposed play until the whistle blows. Dirk is a garbage coach and has no business being an NFL head coach, no different than Wade Phillips who’s a great coordinator also but sucks as a head coach, some guys just don’t have it and he platters aren’t playing good football

I’m gonna enjoy this coaching staff getting fired more than I will the Lovie firing that’s for sure. With this kind of offensive fire power I can’t believe how pathetic and pedestrian our offense looks

100% on koetter rushing his last offensive possession when he could have run the clock down instead but no he dishes to the world that we won’t play barber if we plan on throwing the ball. This regime loves guys that do one thing more than all around players. You should be fired for running Charles Sims at a crucial time of the game as if we don’t know what kind of player he is. Dirk is hot garbage

  37. Tee in Dallas Says:

Ouch. Positives? Chris Godwin is a stud. Beckwith is legit. Barber is nice with the jump cut. Dang Jameis take the sack! How hard can it be? Trotting sorry A$$ Martin out there repeatedly was so stupid.

  38. Doc Says:

Wintson needs a quarterback coach. The Lions ran twenty crossing patterns and the Buc’s coaching staff did not adjust. The Lion’s could not believe the Buc’s did not adjust. How about all those high price defense player’s standing on the sideline. What you saw today was football Player’s that want to win and not standing on the sideline crying.

  39. Youngbucs Says:

Can we get jameis confidence poll

Which team you watching? Not Licht’s fault. He doesn’t coach.

  41. Howard Cosell Says:

Joe isn’t always right, but when he talks Doug Martin sucking he’s REALLY right!

  42. Big Stinky Says:

Blew another chance for a 4th quarter game winning drive

  43. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    @ Howard
Ohhh? And who are your sources? Who do they say will be the next HC? Cuz Koetter is outta here.

  44. Howard Cosell Says:

    @ Big Stinky

    …or just blew

  45. Bucs_Sam Says:

How about that for a sack and a loss.

    Pathetic.

Game ends with just enough time to watch a young Green Bay QB whose name none of us know, drive in OT for a win. Pose. Confidence. Accuracy. Game management. Things Winston doesn’t have.

At what point do the Joe’s finally take a minute from Ironing thier #3 jersey to question our finger eating worst in the division QB. With the amount of W’s Jamies has eaten you think he would be leaner and faster.

INTs, sacks for a loss, lost fumbles….. Is there anything JW can’t do? Obviously besides throw the ball to Mike Evans or win a game.

Fitz has as many wins as #3 this season. Ouch.

  46. Howard Cosell Says:

    @ Mike

    Not sure what you mean

  47. Season Is Over Says:

Do you think Koetter is cocky with media after this debacle or shows the thousand yard stare? Or maybe he only wants positive questions like McCoy.

  48. Howard Cosell Says:

    …oh OK ….the Gruden comment…..

Yeah…I just think Gruden is too smart to go to a dysfunctional Sh*t show run by inept owners who he is very familiar with

  49. What in the buc Says:

Best part of this loss was was martin getting benched! Question is will they can Koetter like the giants canned their poor choice of coach…

  50. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    @ Howard
U said Gruden won’t be our coach, like u have some inside info. The grumors are strong this year, and the talent is there

  51. MadMax Says:

Sign Ziggy, draft Arden Key in the 1st (if still there, or Chubb if not), RB/CB or CB/RB 2nd and 3rd….RT 4th.

  52. Howard Cosell Says:

    @ Mike

    See above

  53. not there yet Says:

Please!!!!! Saying the bucs are cursed is completely stupid and so is our offensive play caller. He needs to be told what to do he had no business being the decision maker. Can’t blame interceptions or fumbles on him but did anyone think that we would do down and score in a hurry offense with Charles Sims even though 4 monies were left in the game? Why rush why not continue to run down the clock with barber? Why start Martin in the first place how does it send a bad message if a young guys plays better than a rookie, it’s a lie which is why Justin Evans plays every snap. Garbage head coach

  54. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Howard
That’s the thing about great coaches. They think and know that they can do a better job than their predecessors. Gruden knows what he could do with Winston. And this roster is packed with talent. It just doesn’t show because of garbage coaching.
I also like Matt Patricia or the DC from Seattle.

  55. ElioT Says:

    Dork Koetter = Done

    Mike Sh*tty = Done

Jason Licht = TBD decided by the new Team President

    McCoy = Trade
*He’s extremely talented but he is not a difference maker. No value to this team in its current state.

    Jameis Winston = TBD
*Anyone calling Jameis a “Franchise QB” has a donkey brain. The kid needs to improve, he looks like a deer in the headlights, after three years in the same system with an insane amount of “weapons” at his disposal.

    THERE MUST BE CHANGES!

Glaziers please get a head start and swing the axe tonight!

There is no reason to wait any longer.

    #bucsfever

  56. Howard Cosell Says:

I’d be thrilled if Gruden returned, but realistically it won’t happen.
The media will play it up big time to sell stories but it won’t happen. I almost guarantee it.

  57. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    @madmax
Chubb is the better Edge, he will be top 5. Arden Key scares me, looks like Vic Beasley. And he was dodo his first year and had 1 good year. No thanks. Also Key is like Spence against the run.

  58. LargoBuc Says:

Sloppy, pathetic performance falls on coaching. And Jameis lack of ball security is getting old. Like really old.

  59. AlteredEgo Says:

Call your mommies young’nz….one more year for coaching and GM….we got some players to replace…and address the rush in the draft

  60. loggedontosay Says:

    Alterego

You are aware that Standford threw as many interceptions as Winston, right?

  61. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    ^^^^^
Ur saying Koetter is safe? That’s laughable.

  62. Lakeland Says:

If Jon Gruden leave his cushion job with ESPN to coach this pathetic team.

He would be as pathetic as the Bucs

This would be the dumbest move ever

    They should drug test him

He has to be on drugs to do something this stupid

  63. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Lakeland
The only reason it is pathetic is because of the coaching. Rosters with much less talent (patriots) (packers) win a lot more games with good coaching.

  64. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The only time we touched Stafford was on the Ryan Russell roughing penalty and he barely pushed him……if your going to get a penalty at least knock the pi$$ out of him.

  65. Vico Says:

draft talk season is officially here! Who will Joe push for the Bucs to play? What def/off coordinator combo should we be hiring next year? Who’s going to be our next RB or DE? Which one is a bigger priority? Are we finally getting a center? What is Sapp going to say? Will Chucky have some fun teasing the Tampa community? Are we going to keep aiming at “steals” in the draft or are we going to actually cover our weakest links? Are we going to keep talking about all the players the bucs have let go that have been successful in their post-tampa careers? wiill America’s QB get his Uber account back on? Are we ever going to see another morning cup of Joe again? Who will practice with Jameis to pressure another team for more money? Who are you betting on guys to have this year’s “accidental” substance suspension? Can’t really wait for the following 9 months of talk to be over.

  66. AlteredEgo Says:

logg….yes I am…but the game within the stats…Stafford is a stone colder assassin…compare to Gasparilla Parade Bead Thrower #3

  67. Jeagan1999 Says:

My patience is just about gone. I’m tired of this Bucs team constantly underperforming on one side of the ball then the other. Time for an off season rebuild!

    Fire the coaching staff
    Trade G. McCoy for a 1st/2nd rounder
    Cut D. Martin
    Cut R. Ayers
Cut/Trade D. Jackson – Godwin is more than adequate at #2 WR
    Re-sign Brate and Humphries
Draft OT, DE and RB in the first 2 rounds, DE/DT in Round 3, Guard in Round 4
No more overpriced, older free agents!
Give Jameis one more season to show he can be a franchise QB

  68. Vico Says:

I meant who will Joe push for the Bucs to draft! haha sorry

  69. loggedontosay Says:

    Elio T = Donkey Dead D#$k Brain

    I looked it up.

  70. Howard Cosell Says:

I know we’re supposed to ignore the elephant in the room and his army of lawyers, but the Glazers brought us Raheem, Schiano, Lovie and Koetter one after the other. What makes anyone think the next coach won’t suck too?

  74. Lakeland Says:

    Howard Cosell

That has been my point all along

After Rich McKay left, the Bucs has been one of the worst franchises in the NFL

  75. MadMax Says:

@GOAT, you must be seeing a different player from me and some others….

    https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2018-nfl-draft-prospect-rankings-freak-lsu-pass-rusher-arden-key-is-back/

  76. Lakeland Says:

They were the worst team in the NFL before Rich McKay

    McKay brought them some respectability

80-64 record during his 9 seasons

Then they went back to the Cellar

  77. Howard Cosell Says:

    Good point Lakeland

  78. AceofAerospace Says:

I think Gruden would absolutely come to this shat show. I believe Grudens attitude would be, you’ve sucked since you fired me, now let me do my job. No, I don’t believe he’d get full control, but I do believe he can make something out of this talent and I’m sure he can turn Winston into a legitimate pro bowler. I’m so done with dirk and this entire staff. You take away a 4 game losing streak perpetuated by Kiffin announcing his departure (stupid move) and the Bucs make the playoffs that season and Gruden might still be the Bucs coach.

  79. Bucs Sam Says:

America’s QB? Your seriosly trolling your own fans Joe….

How does JW stack up against QB’s drafted the same time as him or since him…..

Here is how 2017 is looking. Rating/TD/INT/Fum

    Watson – 103 / 19 / 8 / 2

    Wentz – 102 / 29 / 6 / 4

    Goff – 98.4 / 20 / 6 / 4

    Jamies – 90.1 / 12 / 6 / 6

    Brissett – 83.1 / 10 / 7 / 5

    Prescott – 87.9 / 18 / 9 / 4

    Mariota – 80.4 / 10 / 12 / 0

    Trubisky – 74.6 / 5 / 4 / 5

    Siemian – 72.7 / 11 / 13 / 4

    Hundley – 70.6 / 5 / 8 / 2

So not only is #3 the 4th best QB in the NFC South he’s the 4th best QB drafyed since 2015.

Of those 10 WB’s since 2015 almost all have won more games than #3. #3 is only beating Siemian in eating W’s

America’s QB? What America are you living in?

Get your credibility back , call a spade a spade Joe…

  80. Vico Says:

How can you have 4 minutes, the ball, and then spend 30 secs to give the ball back on three an out with these (supposedly) arsenal of players? This is the game where Koetter lost his job. Apart from perennial candidate Chucky, who should we be looking at for HC next year? Jameis can’t be the priority as he’s unable to win by himself. For a SB you must have a team, not a record-braker. Ask Marino.

  81. Vico Says:

Good point Ace, Kiffin screwed Chucky’s project big time in the silliest way.

  82. Nate Says:

    @Lakeland you mad bro?????….LOL

Just because Gruden knows this job is the best opp…he wants the hall of fame in coaching

not a analyst forever w/ mike rico’s replacement lol

  83. MadMax Says:

So should we sign Kirk Cousins and see what he can do with this talent while JW#3 watches? I think “YOU LIKE THAT” could be our new saying after doing this and we start winning (after fixing the D too).

  84. Vico Says:

Howard C – can’t fire the Glazers so we might as well hope they hit a home run for once. Koetter is not showing progress or even promise anymore.

  85. Defense Rules Says:

Let’s see if this summarizes today … Bucs’ offense scored their ‘average’ 21 points, and committed FIVE (YES, 5) turnovers while America’s QB threw for a gazillion yards. Bucs’ defense gave up 24 points behind a no-name DLine and ill-performing secondary, while causing 3 turnovers for their offense. Bucs’ players showed heart, yet still lost making them 4-9 now. Joe blames Martin, while Bucs’ fans continue dreaming about Chucky. About covers it, til next week.

  86. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

OrlBuc im watchn this licht built team that has ZERO identity and is a no where team except top 8 draft pick again licht ignored the OL, the defense and quickly losing faith in his QB…. so ya licht and koetter can both move on and get a great football mind to run show…ask parcells ask jimmy johnson ask the guy in philly but this team is cleveland south

  87. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    @ max
The stuff I’ve watched on him he is mostly in blocked or is matched up with a TE. Not much technique, just kinda runs around guys.

  88. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Bucs San
    Don’t be silly,
Watson is a very small sample size, and wentz and Goff are having great years.
Also JW missed 3 games. GTFO with that garbage

  89. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Orl you are crazy if you think they are going 6-10 this year!

  90. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Un blocked

  91. ElioT Says:

    @loggedontosay

    Good burn dumb*ss!

    …also, your mom is fat.

    #gosucs!!!

  92. FortMyersDave Says:

I think this game guaranteed that Koetter will not be back for 2017, starting Dougie was the icing on the cake. The Bucs did not gain any ground today on the draft pecking order as the Texans tanked against the Niners but the Bears did beat up the Bungles to move to 4-9, Fox is trying to save his job while Koetter stubbornly continues to dig his own grave. And do not give Licht a pass for this mess either; the Bucs starting Martin is partially Licht’s fault as he passed up on the chance to get a decent RB several times in the April draft only to waste a 5th round pick on that Boise cast-off. The non-existant pass ruh has to be hung on him as well since he has batted 0.000 on FA acquisitions if you do not count Grimes and Murray and it is another area he fully ignored in the draft while he sunk all his chips into acquiring depth at WR, LB and TE. 4-12, a #5-7 pick in the 2018 draft and a new GM and coaching staff; that is what us Buc fans get to look forward too. Oh yeah, more of the Glazer kids…. Question: what is the one component that has stayed constant at One Buc since Chuckie got fired and Malcolm G went off to the happy hunting ground? The Glazer kids have to realize that they are the source of the dilemma with bad decisions that have brought us Dominic/Licht as well as 4 coaches who produced 2 winning seasons out of 9. I am guessing a lot of the support staff; scouting, player evaluations, etc is as inept as the GMs and HCs have been. Glazers neeed to hand over the reigns to a football guru ala what the Jags did with Coughlin!

  93. The Anomaly Says:

Garbage. The team is garbage. JW is garbage. Koetter is garbage. Mike SMtih is worse than garbage. Dial up a blitz you freaking loser.

    Licht is garbage.

    GLAZERS YOU SUCK!

  94. Patrick Says:

If Gruden came back to coach, the Bucs would officially be the biggest joke in the NFL. Not because he’s not a good coach (HE IS), but because it’ll show that the Glazers fked up by firing him 9 years ago. Never will happen; the Glazers egos are too big for that

  95. SOEbuc Says:

O-LINE BL*WS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When Jameis can get time in the pocket and his receivers run the correct routes, he can make some good throws. When he gets hit or sacked is when the ball comes out and it is due to this bullish%t OL. If we are at around the 10th pick I would actually love a Connor Williams pick. How bout OJ “JUICE” HOWARD? Continuing to rise which is making me happy.

  96. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Soe
They are projecting Williams as a late 1st now. In the last week or 2 his stock has plummeted for some reason. Maybe the LT from Oklahoma would be a better pick.

  97. Poor Glennon Says:

Don’t blow up the team! We spent 5 season’s recently. Wondering “what’s the problem”. Letting guys like Bennett and Barron walk. When in the end it was the QB. Freeman was never consistent enough to win regularly. Cut ties with Winston!!! You know his recievers are frustrated. Just stop with the 23 yo crap. The guy has 40+ NFL games under his belt. His long balls are either underthrown or wwwway underthrown. This game here today is Winston in a nutshell. Passing yardage….✔ bad ball security…..✔ horribly inaccurate throws…✔ chance to win but previous two ✔ pretty much make that a rarity. Losses ✔

  98. C. Alaka Says:

I’m still not over this lost like most times. Takes days to even look @ anything Bucs related. W/ that being said Jameis played well enough to win. The Slay interception was REALLY a great play on his part. Could’ve Jameis not thrown, maybe. But sometimes you gotta just commend the defense. The 2nd interception was DEFINITELY pass interference on OJ. That caused him not to get to his spot & the ball to picked. So I don’t wanna hear the complaints.

Is like the only way for us to win is for Jameis to be perfect! Unless you have Brady you can’t expect that. The defensive system is a joke. Guy completing 82% w/ a bad hand lol. The guy had 200+ yds before half. Get Smith outta here sorry
