“It Usually Means Your Player Has A Pretty Serious Injury”

November 9th, 2017

Talkin’ Jameis.

When Joe read the report yesterday of America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, visiting noted sports surgeon Dr. James Andrews, it sent cold shivers up Joe’s spine.

Of course yesterday, the Bucs tried to downplay it. Jameis said he’s seen the guy before and that may have a kernel of truth to it since Andrews is from Birmingham and that’s the neck of the woods Jameis is from. Perhaps the two have crossed paths at a country club?

As Joe told people yesterday, anyone who throws an object for a living doesn’t go out of their way to see Andrews just to share fishing stories. Athletes don’t visit Andrews for an ingrown toenail. That’s like you don’t go see good friend of Joe and #StickCarrier Dr. David Wenk for a head cold.

Jameis going to see Andrews scared Joe and should scare the hell out of Bucs fans as well.

Last night on “Late Hits,” with co-hosts Alex Marvez and Bill Polian, heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Polian, the Hall of Fame general manager, said Bucs fans should be scared with this news.

Alex Marvez: You have had to deal with Dr. Jameis Andrews with this sort of thing before. Never really good news when someone takes that trip to go see him, is it?

Bill Polian: No, Jimmy Andrews is not a guy you feel good about your guy going to see because he is not a good doctor; he is among the best in the world. But it usually means your player has a pretty serious injury. So it is not a good thing. Now, let’s hope this is only a short-term thing. We have got Andrew Luck, Deshaun Watson and now our next young, bright quarterback potentially off the field for a lengthy period of time. That’s not good for the game.

Now for baseball folks, the name “Dr. James Andrews” is akin to the Grim Reaper because more often than not, in baseball, invoking Andrews’ name often means in the next sentence “Tommy John surgery.” Or it could be a rotator cuff injury. Oddly enough, that’s what former Chargers team doctor and orthopedic surgeon Dr. David Chao speculated was wrong with Jameis when he watched video of Jameis in a recent game.

True Bucs fans should be lighting candles this weekend for Jameis. This is scary stuff and Joe doesn’t think it is over-the-top to suggest the immediate future of the franchise rests both on Jameis’ shoulder and Andrews’ evaluation.

Silver lining – a torn rotator cuff isn’t favorable for his future baseball career

  2. BucFanFromOH Says:

    “Dr. Jameis Andrews” lmao

  3. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

So what I’m reading is: a doctor in California, who did not examine Jameis but only watched a some film of him from one game, determined Jameis had a rotator cuff injury weeks before the Bucs’ doctors, and meanwhile Jameis was still allowed to play?

This organization has become a laughing stock dumpster fire. As the Mad King said, “Burn them all!”

Fire Licht, fire all the coaches, reset the franchise. If we learned anything from the Eagles and Rams this year, franchises can be turned around almost immediately when competent people are in charge. No more wasting time, let’s start the search now.

  4. Joe Says:

    “Dr. Jameis Andrews” lmao

    🙂

You know, typing that story, Joe caught himself typing “Jameis” for “Jameis” like four or five times. That was one that got past Joe. Thanks for the catch.

  5. Getaclue Says:

    “America’s Surgeon”

  6. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Shut Jameis down for the season, get his health taken care of so that he’s ready to learn an entirely new offense in the off season.

  7. BucFanFromOH Says:

Joe caught himself typing “Jameis” for “Jameis” like four or five times.

Get some coffee Joe! J/K, I just like busting your chops. JoeBucsFan.com is by far the best place to get Bucs news. Keep up the great work!

  8. JMarkBuc Says:

Of course I hope JW doesn’t have a serious injury…but he wasn’t accurate before the injury. To say that all of his problems are injury related isn’t, well, accurate.

  9. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    @Jmarkbuc

Jameis was literally a top 10 QB in every major statistical category, including completion percentage, before getting his shoulder hurt/ re-hurt.

  10. Joe Says:

Thanks for the kind words man!

  11. Stav Says:

“… invoking Andrews’ name often means in the next sentence “Tommy John surgery.” In other words, rotator cuff injury.”

Tommy John surgery reconstructs ligament damage in the elbow. Completely different animal. Torn rotator cuff (depending on severity) can be reattached with pins, or rehabbed back via physical therapy.

  12. Lamarcus Says:

Jw on ir should be destination number 1. Most importantly, get him away from the loser locker room.

  13. Buccaneer scotty Says:

Darn straight jmarkbuc he never has been accurate

  14. Pelbuc Says:

2-6 with JW and you’re freaking out as if Bucs record was 8-0. He’ll never be the savior you suggest. Get Gruden and get Cousins at Qb. Trade away JW, Evans (Godwin, if given a chance will be better), GMC, and dump Ayers, Conte, and Martin.

  15. wewantgruden Says:

JameisNOT being out may be a very good thing for the Bucs. It will allow us to possibly compete in some games. And, since so many of you think he is such a scholar, it may allow him some extra time to finish his education. Heck, in two weeks he may even be on Dr Andrews staff. He can lick the envelopes on the invoices to be mailed out.

  16. Bucn Enough Says:

Maybe Dr Jameis Andrews can tweak Jameis’s accuracy ligament also
maybe while he is there, can press the maturity button as well.

  17. Joe Says:

Trade away JW, Evans (Godwin, if given a chance will be better), GMC, and dump Ayers, Conte, and Martin.

Joe wishes he could hit the bottle hard this early in the day just like this. Granted, even the blind can see Doug Martin is done.

i am seeing a pattern from the uneducated jameis bashers… they all live in the past with the BS perception tampa is a defensive town…. tampa is a losing town that had 1 great year yet you same folks keep crying for a failed past when the young stars, evans, winston, kwon, beckwith, godwin, oj all need and deserve NEW and fresh ideas and philosophies not conservative failed approached by failed has been players and coaches that choked more than they won when it matter most in the playoffs…

    Ding!

  21. tmaxcon Says:

the clueless trade gmc crowd needs to wake up. he has ZERO value… let me explain business to you… he has a bloated contract, is having a horrible year, injury prone, proven loser and has quit on multiple coaches. i understand the fanboys led by joe can overlook all this but successful gms would not give up anything higher than a 5th for a soft broken down dt who does not like to or know how to win. Now if gmc was on another team the bucs would gladly give up 2 firsts and a third for a broken down soft loser.

  22. Jman55 Says:

On the bright side Jameis still has time to join the MLB.

  23. Jman55 Says:

    Thank you Stav.

  24. Buc Nasty Says:

The fact that Polian refers to Jameis as “our next young, bright quarterback” is a silver lining out of this. I think Polian is generally very balanced in his opinions and seems to be one of the better talent evaluators out there. Nice to hear a vote of confidence for Jaboo.

winston should’ve sat after the ARZ game but dirk was too busy trying to save his job….now he’s trying to ruin the franchise….

good to see winston say enough of this…he should’ve took grimes with him ….what does this say about the team doctors….GO BUCS!!!

  29. BucFanFromOH Says:

Our next draft needs to be all D/O line and 1 CB.

  30. Joe Says:

said this yesterday…its an indictment on the medical staff….

If Jameis is badly injured, that’s more on the medical staff. If they told Koetter to shut Jameis down he would have.

Joe finds it difficult to believe Koetter would risk a potentially career-threatening injury to Jameis for one or two wins. If anything, shelving Jameis gives Koetter a pass. Koetter knows his job is directly tied to Jameis. If he actually did expose Jameis to a bad injury, not only is he fired, but he would have a very hard time finding another job.

Understand folks are anti-Koetter, but he’s not this naive.

  31. tmaxcon Says:

    813bucboi

jameis should take your boy vh3 with him; maybe andrews can add a foot and some speed. he is a miracle worker after all. obviously he will not be able to fix the immature brain fart celebrations after being toasted but it might buy him another year in the league before he sets off on his future career as a pop warner coach

  32. C eh N eh D eh Says:

He got a shot at the combine for his shoulder…ANYONE remember? …this could be chronic and long term or always been there…not good at all 🙁

  33. Capt. Blighe Says:

It’s hilarious that so many people want an Jameis shut down.
He is not going to be magically better next year.
If he has real injury thats fine but all indications are he doesn’t.
Give him 2 weeks off to heal his boo-boo and get his butt back on the field.

  34. tmaxcon Says:

    813

i see it now in three years clearwater will be all the buzz with Vh3’s midgets taking on Murphy’s little guys in the pop warner bowl….

  35. Joe Says:

If he has real injury thats fine but all indications are he doesn’t.

So you are suggesting there is some sort of conspiracy here that Jameis’ injured shoulder is a orchestrated ruse hatched by Jason Licht and Dirk Koetter to try to cover for a five-game losing streak?

  36. Broy34WantsGruden+Jameis Says:

Ironic how anyone with a clue already knows jameis is one of the best young qb’s in football

  37. Dewey Selmon Says:

    America’s Surgeon. gulp.

  38. BigMacAttack Says:

Lavonte and Kwon need to beast it up. Luke Kuechly brings his whole defense up. The guy is like a super computer wrapped up in a tank. Our LBs can do the same with good coaching. The Bucs’ problem is more mental than anything else.

  39. tmaxcon Says:

    BigMacAttack

what about the senior team captain and highest paid player…. how are lvd and kwon to pickup a defense when the senior captain has set such a great example in loafing and quitting for nearly a decade on multiple staffs. lvd is a good football player but not a leader by any sense of the word. kwon has enough to worry about learning his own position than carrying a defense with such a beastly and out of this world leader in cancer93… no one captains a blowout like cancer93 and no one receives more free rides than cancer93

  40. Broy34WantsGruden+Jameis Says:

Lamarcus I can see why you say that but this defense sucks because of scheme and d line. Had hey drafted and lineman and signed Campbell with a different scheme the d is ready to go. It’s evident when you see the difference in Hargreaves once he says forget this soft crap I’m playing up. Dude has been great since one adjustment. This is the worst defense in Bucs history. That’s saying something. Just watch. Gruden coaching the offense and who knows he may actually recruit Rex and say let’s try hitting the QB. Team immediately wins ten games after signing and drafting a dline

  41. bucs_365 Says:

Jameis is never going to be a consistent or accurate QB. Ready to move on.

  42. Lamarcus Says:

    Agree broy34

This has to be the worse I seen in any level of football in quite some time.

  43. BucFanFromOH Says:

  47. C eh N eh D eh Says:

@tmaxcon…Wow, you’re an expert on what 36 million Canadians “think” ? …you should do Vegas with the mind reading skill…Most are very proud of this country, leaders in peace and human progress…a lot of places can’t claim that 🙂

it’s a big problem in this world that a weak and soft society has taken words like racist and bigot and rendered them worthless. those words that used to carry significant meaning are nothing more than a go to world for people who can’t handle reality.

  59. Stevbobucsfan Says:

If I am not mistaken, Jameis had some type of arm issue before his draft. Tied arm or something along those lines. The injury is not good but to sit a while and watch may be good for James. I don’t think he has missed a game after being thrown in there his draft year

  60. Mike Johnson Says:

What a messy franchisae. Hiding the truth. Even Stevie Wonder could see Jameis was hurt early in the season. Koetter plyed him in hopes jameis could save the day and his career. He was and is wrong. Shut Jameis down for the remainder of the season. Let him have that syrgery so he will be ready come spring time. But they won’t. Watch Jameis come back in 2 games and even further damage that shoulder. You were not going to win with your Defense anyways Koetter. Rumor has it Boise State gonna have an opening next yr. Prime Spot for Koetter. NEXT!!!!!!!!!!

  61. Reach87 Says:

Tmax you are a moron. Cancer to all Bucs fans.

  62. Joe Says:

Its time you get rid of turnstile 76

Unless something has radically changed in a handful of weeks, the Bucs have zero plans on replacing Donovan Smith. Given the offensive line crises in the NFL, replacing Smith very likely would mean his successor would be the next Ereck Flowers.

  63. 813bucboi Says:

  64. StPeteBucsFan Says:

  69. Alaskan abdominal snowman Says:

Jameis is going to be fine. I will say James hasn’t taken the “leap” many of us expected him to. With that being said his statistics were up in almost every category. His trajectory as a QB is still going up every year, but there are inconsistencies on a week to week basis.

If he continues to work his butt off as he has been reported to be then I dont see why this trajectory and improvement cannot continue (for as long as he plays). People want instant gratification nowadays but this isn’t a

  70. Alaskan abdominal snowman Says:

***but this isn’t something you want to rush to judgement. This is potentially our first franchise QB and I’m not stupid enough to let another one of those go.

Relax people Jameis is not the main problem here. Coaches are not doing their jobs in putting players in position to succeed and that extends to every position.
J ameis will never reach most of your exoectations because most of the uninformed bucs fans want perfection but fail to realise no QB is perfect or hits all their throws.
