Third Down Defensive Struggles

November 12th, 2017

Ugly third-down numbers.

Since Joe is on a third-down kick this morning, it’s time to look at the third down defense of the Bucs.

That is, if you want to vomit up all of your bacon and orange juice all over the kitchen floor.

In third down and medium, per BSPN’s NFL Matchup, the Bucs are one of the sorriest defenses in the NFL. Third-and-medium, per Matchup, is when the offense needs anywhere from three to six yards for a first down.

There, the Bucs are giving up first downs at a nearly 60 percent clip, which is just obscene. Only team worse is the Giants.

Is it any surprise that both teams have combined for three wins thus far?

To further look at third downs, on the road, the Bucs overall allow teams to convert 54 percent of the time, which is enough for a Bucs fan to jump off a bridge. How the hell can any team win when its defense is so soft?

Exactly. Lets give their receivers a 10 yard cushion when they need 5. Sounds good to mike smith. Well unless you ask him about it. Then he will say its up to the DB. Wtf???? Thats one guy with his head up his rear this year. Pretty ballsy dude to put his job in the hands of these dbs. One of these weeks he will pull his head out.

Lol this is set up to be so bad for the Mike Smith koetter duo. They are play Atlanta their old team get blown out by half time by a bad offensive coordinator to hear fans chanting Chucky’s name at halftime. I’m not going for a miracle turnaround season just to go through this again next year like we did with lovie.

Forget the bad coaching, concentrate on ownership.
    We have clueless ownership.
The fact is they relish their involvement in decision making, regardless of the fact that they are the problem with this franchise.
Hiring Gruden would only appease the fan base until the record becomes 30/30 and demand another clueless change.
The first step in resurrecting this franchise would be to hire a president of football operations.
This will never happen. The only way that the Glazers can elevate the value of this franchise is to move it to Europe or England.
Like the players, they just cash their pay checks and go on.

This is THE KEY stat to why we are losing.

Makes sense that Mike Smith stayed in Tampa and didn’t take a head coaching job. Maybe other teams knew he had nothing left to contribute… or maybe we just still have some of those Raheem/Schiano loser mentality players still in our locker room…

Just remember that when the game gets boring today, there are always reruns of “Leave it to Beaver”

  7. Bobby M. Says:

There’s no talent on the d-line other then McCoy…..Its really that simple. McCoy is getting double or triple teamed…..Every other linemen is in 1 on 1 situations and they simply cant beat anyone. That’s on the GM….Licht rolled the dice with TWO DEs coming off surgeries. Meanwhile, the guy in Jacksonville has more sacks then our entire team. Licht wasted 2nd and 3rd round picks on players that aren’t even on the team anymore or they’re backups/rotational players.

ASJ …2nd rd….we play him today
    Charles Sims…3rd rd…..useful for 1 down a series
    Donovan Smith…2nd rd….meh
    Vernon Hargreaves…1st rd….awful
    Noah Spence….2nd rd…..cant stay healthy
    Roberto Aguayo….2nd rd….WHY?
Justin Evans….2nd rd….rotational player on a garbage defense
Chris Godwin….3rd rd….4th on depth chart….barely sees the field.

That’s FOUR YEARS of DRAFTS and only ONE DE taken…..Licht lacks vision to build an identity for a team….He’s all over the place then seems to take pride in “cutting losses” on picks that didnt work out. After 4 years of drafts….this team should be dominant on either the o-line….or….d-line. We’re terrible on both and its killing any potential of Winston developing…..as well as buring through coaches careers.

If we win this game today with Fitz, I shudder to hear the “QB controversy” talk around the Nation

  9. Pelbuc Says:

Bobby M couldn’t have said it better. Licht has been horrible with his personnel moves since day 1. Questionable coaches can’t make chicken salad out of chicken s#!t. JW still needs a babysitter ( Derrick Brooks) in his third year. SMH. Time to blow it up and start over again and keeps doing it until you get the t right. Start by firing Litch!
