“I’m Sure Our Ownership Would Want Him Shut Down”

November 2nd, 2017

Dirk Koetter talks about Team Glazer and Jameis (photo courtesy of Buccaneers.com.)

Formerly winning head coach Dirk Koetter weighed in this afternoon on a topic that was one of several debates during today’s Ira Kaufman Podcast.

The subject was shutting down America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, and his injured throwing shoulder.

Face it, Jameis is the organization’s No. 1 asset — by a mile. It’s not Koetter or general Jason Licht or Mike Evans or Gerald McCoy, or even the massive office and training complex at One Buc Palace.

Jameis’ sprained AC joint and bruised deltoid is not something Koetter is making decisions on, the head coach said today after practice. It’s purely a team doctor call as to whether Jameis is healthy enough to practice and play, Koetter said.

And then Koetter himself threw Team Glazer into the mix, saying, “If Jameis was deemed to be in any more danger than in normal game, our medical staff would shut him down. And I’m ownership would want him shut down if that was the case, but that’s not the case.”

Koetter added that Jameis is moving in the right direction with his health but he would never think of sitting any player for medical reasons if team doctors said the player was healthy to play.

Again, Team Glazer likely already has told team doctors to take no risks with Jameis. So don’t expect Jameis to get “shut down” unless he suffers further injury, or the organization decides to rest him for the final couple of weeks of a lost season.

  1. Chris Says:

Untill the next sever hit which may put him in the Andrew Luck category.

  2. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … ” It’s purely a team doctor call as to whether Jameis is healthy enough to practice and play, Koetter said.” Sorry, that’s a cop-out. Head coaches determine who plays & who doesn’t play … for whatever reason. Ask Peyton Barber.
Joe’s talking about active and available, obviously. And let’s not compare Jameis and an undrafted RB.–Joe

  3. Lamarcus Says:

Great news. So we have a chance?

  4. Lamarcus Says:

All in all. I’m happy were not packing it in now. Let’s win some ball games. Ppl crying about the injury….. Hell this aint playing dolls. This is football. No one is health

  5. unbelievable Says:

DeShaun Watson out for the season with an ACL

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo strained his elongated arc once from over-activity. Doctors told Pablo it needed rest but Pablo didn’t comply. Pablo hopes Hamus’ pain is under control and he is able to sling his arc Sunday”

  7. BigMacAttack Says:

Yeah whatever Dirk. If Jameis has pain in the shoulder which he admitted he does, it will affect his passing. I think this is a boneheaded decision by all parties involved. If he is throwing into tiny windows the pain will cause misses. Give Fitz a chance. I hope it works out though.

  8. NFLNut Says:

Andrew Luck out for the year … has missed 26 games in last 3 years

Deshaun Watson tore ACL today and is out for the year and faces 9 months of rehab with people already calling him te next RGIII …

Jameis … 39 straight starts and counting and building a Brett Favre resume for toughness …

  9. LakeLand Says:

If Jameis Winston play, they lose by 20. If Jameis Winston sit this one out, they lose by 21. It really don’t make a difference if he plays or not, same results.

  10. Not there yet Says:

More than anything I’m sure they want to win but if he comes out looking like he did last week they need to hide him on IR, this fanbase would start a riot if the offense looked like it did last week

  11. Poor Glennon Says:

#1 asset booohahaha. I’ve heard this song before. It’s the Oline, it’s the coach, it’s this player it’s that player. Wow it was the QB all along. This shoulder is just another excuse. 24 games with Winston left……….I’m totally confident he will set us up to draft a QB high in 2019

  12. NFLNut Says:

    ^ loon

  13. NFLNut Says:

you guys are so sad … cracks me up

  14. NFLNut Says:

Finally got a franchise qb that much of the league would give up a Kings ransom for … and you loons want to draft another shaun king, mike glennon, freeman, etc … you guys deserve the sad lives you obviously have …

  15. passthebuc Says:

If he is the no. 1asset for the bucs we are deeper in the hole than I thought

  16. NFLNut Says:

^ Loon … the following teams would all probably give up every one of their 2018 draft picks plus a 2019 #1 for Jameis: Dolphins, Jets, Bills, Ravens, Browns, Jaguars, Chargers, Broncos, Giants, Vikings and Cardinals.

As a fan of players rather than teams, I’d be fine with Jameis being traded to the Ravens or Broncos, two quality organizations who have fine defenses in place, quality ownership and GMs and long-time winning cultures … you loons can draft some goof who will turn into the next Mike Glennon or Shaun King and watch Jameis win rings with Denver or Baltimore … loons!

  17. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “Joe’s talking about active and available, obviously. And let’s not compare Jameis and an undrafted RB.” I was talking about active & available too Joe. Peyton Barber’s been active & available for all 7 games, and has the highest yds/attempt average (4.1) for a Bucs RB (Reedy is actually doing better than all of them on his rushes). Wasn’t comparing a starting QB with a backup RB BTW, just saying that the HC makes the final determination as to who plays or doesn’t play (no HC will overrule the docs if they rule someone out of course). Jameis not throwing or practicing but 1 day (Friday) prior to the Carolina game AND with a hurt shoulder AND being in pain didn’t give us the best chance of winning that ballgame. Fitz isn’t nearly as good as Jameis IMO when both are at 100%, but Jameis clearly isn’t at 100%. I’ve had a bum shoulder that I lived with for a long time, and it finally needed surgery to fix. Would rather see Jameis sit now & let the shoulder heal without needing surgery … that can be a long rehab road.

  18. Warren Sapp Says:

Stop.Nfl nut your making me laugh!! Franchise Qb!! Please, far from it.

Just because it’s the best Qb this team has ever had, does not make Jamise a franchise Qb. Don’t care about stats

  19. NFLNut Says:

I the good doctor, CELLER DUELER aka “Wewantgruden” hasn’t made his way into this forum yet … you guys are in for a real treat, he’s is a loon of loons and his comments are laugh inducing!

  20. Bird Says:

    nflnut^

Josh mccown has more wins then Jameis. The jets must have better coaches then us ? Right?

Cause jets have 0 weapons. A 1/4 of the talent we have. Unless u think ASJ is a stud.

  21. Buccaneer scotty Says:

He should have been undrafted lmao I don’t know what your smoking or what games your watching but I wish I had some and you must have been watching the Texans and DeShaun Watson if you want to see America’s quarterback(I know he got hurt) but that man’s a real Qb period! The truth will set you free!!!

  22. JimmyJack Says:

No…….screw you NFL nut. Not all of us deserve this garbage every year. There are some TB fans that realise what Winston could do in this league if he had an Real team around him. There are some of us that know Ryan Fitzpatrick is an answer to nothing. There are also some of us that know that this team getting a top five draft pick this year will solve nothing.

These Winston haters need to be identified and dragged onto MLK blvd for a proper beating before they can get into the stadium and infect the fan base anymore. All they will ackomplish is to run this guy out of town and we will be back at another fifteen year rebuilding stage.

  23. JimmyJack Says:

Hey Scott……When you wake up I suggest you scroll through the inter webs and you can see that the Texans were able to compete without a QB……… It really should be no mystery when QBs tend to find success more often with team that know how to compete in this league……While losing teams, like our, take longer to get theirs to win.

  24. AlteredEgo Says:

    JimmyYack…wow…what a racist rant !

  25. JimmyJack Says:

Bird…..Thats exactly what makes their coaches better. They get the most out of their players…..Our coaches get the least.

Not to mention that we hit an offseason and spend most of our money in the passing game which was already a strength while we ignore our weaknesses.

I’d love to blame the lame duck crowd that cried “weapons for Winston” but that’s unfair. The fans didn’t make the call

  26. JimmyJack Says:

AltedEgo…….I’ll just lump you into the growing number of have-nots when it comes to our fan base.

  27. NFLNut Says:

JimmyJack … screw me? I’m the guy that recognizes Jameis’ greatness as much as anyone. What are you talking about?

I’m simply NOT a Bucs fan, I’m a fan of great players and I enjoy following the careers of great players from a young age as I did with Favre and Peyton … and now with Jameis.

If he wins rings in Denver or Tampa makes no difference to me …

BIRD … wins are organizational accomplishments, not individual accomplishments. Josh McCown also has a better record than Derek Carr, Eli Manning, DeShone Kizer, Jacoby Brissett and Mitch Trubisky and yet I can guarantee you that the Jets brass would trade McCown for all of those QBs in a heart-beat.

Football is the ultimate TEAM sport … wins are TEAM accomplishments … if they were simply QB accomplishments, Marino, Fouts and Moon would have combined to win 15 rings not the ZERO they actually won.

  28. JimmyJack Says:

Sorry if it hurts NFLnut but I stand by my “screw you” comment.

While I do agree with most everything you said I have to lash out when you say we deserve this sorry ass team.

  29. JimmyJack Says:

Defence Rules……..You are completely wrong on this one. It’s foolish at best if you think the Glazers turn a blind eye to the condition and health of their players.

The bottom guy on the roster may be one thing but we are talking about the #1 player on this roster. Our owners know what they have invested in Winston and to suggest that the Glazers pay no attention to Winstons health and would not excercise any authority in the matter is suggesting that the Glazers don’t care about the future of their franchise. I don’t even see how there’s an argument her and yours is very weak and of little sense.

  30. Buccaneer scotty Says:

Who wants to compete with a sorry Qb? We never get it right! Iam sick of watching sorry bucs Qbs for 30+ years!

  31. Destinjohnny Says:

We can’t win with the defensive talent that we have.
Shut him down and let’s draft d lineman

  32. JimmyJack Says:

Your missing the point Scotty. We are not a competitive team. Our lines get pushed around on both sides of the ball every week. Can’t win in this league like that, this is a violent sport no QB changes that.

As soon as this team quits letting other teams beat us physically the wins will come because we have the QB. It feels like standing here with my hands on my shoulders waiting for it to happen.

  33. DB55 Says:

    Def

He would have to go on IR. Shoulders as you know don’t heal fast at all. Andrew Luck 2.0 bc we didn’t put an oline around him.

  34. NFLNut Says:

JimmyJack … re-read my post. I didn’t say YOU or LordC or any sensible Bucs fans deserved a sorry team … I do however maintain that loons like “celler dueler”, “BucsAnthem”, “PoorGlennon” and a host of others do indeed DESERVE a sorry team as they don’t know a generational HOF talent QB when he’s on their team.

And, as I’m an NFLNut not a BuccaneerNut and a fan of players rather than teams, it really makes no difference to me where Jameis experiences the most team success.

It does however sadden me to see fans treat him like garbage as it takes me back to 1992-96 when Orlando Magic fans (also Floridians) treated Shaquille O’Neal like garbage … they got to watch him leave for Los Angeles and win 3 rings there … the same could happen with Bucs fans and Jameis!

  35. Defense Rules Says:

@JimmyJack … “Defence Rules……..You are completely wrong on this one. It’s foolish at best if you think the Glazers turn a blind eye to the condition and health of their players.” I never mentioned the Bucs’ ownership, so sounds like you’re reading something into it that isn’t there. Obviously any HC would ‘follow orders’ if he wanted to keep his job (ie, IF ownership told him to sit someone for whatever reason), BUT … I seriously doubt that the Glazer boys would intervene (some owners might, but not them). You start going down that path (like Snyder when he first bought the Redskins?) and nothing good comes of it. And they know it. That’s not their style.

  36. AlteredEgo Says:

Why does JimmyYack…have to come back with a response telling the poster what they really meant to say….come here and express your opinion and don’t cry butthurt foul when not everyone signs on with your take on the state of whatever Buc

  37. Lamarcus Says:

Jw is going nowhere. So u might as well pick another team to root for. Jw is a franchise player and turned this franchise around. Yes him and him only

  38. JimmyJack Says:

Defence Rules……You didn’t have to specifically mention the owners. You’re responding to the article and that’s what it’s about.

In the case of Winston they darn sure better be involved of the decision making and should be well informed on the health of Winston more then anybody. They have too much invested in the future of this franchise then anybody. It would be totally irresponsible for them to delegate this decision to their employees and not be a part of it themselves.

Not sure where your coming from but your comparisons to P.Barber(who is completely healthy to the best of my knowledge) seems irrelevant and comparison to Dan Synder(for what? Not shutting down RGIII ending his career with the Skins) seems to go against your opinion.

  39. LakeLand Says:

We can debate all day today, and the Yucs will still Suck all day tomorrow!

  40. AlteredEgo Says:

Lam…..Jw is a franchise player and turned this franchise around. “….we ain’t even @ the corner yet….

  41. BigMacAttack Says:

I just want Jameis to get healthy. Whine complain whatever, he’s out wh and that won’t change anytime soon. The kid is hurt and you can see it in his play. A shoulder can be rehabilitated often without surgery, but throwing it out several times in a game isn’t the way to do it. They need to be smart about this and I’m not sure they are.

  42. JimmyJack Says:

Altered Ego……I enjoy the debate. It’s my right as a sports fan. And don’t tell me what to do I’ll say whatever I please…….Unlike you I can keep it about sports. Whine all you like and holler at me when you have something to say that I care about.

  43. BigMacAttack Says:

    Our qb. FB autocorrect

  44. JimmyJack Says:

Well can we assume that Winstons active status means that the Bucs believe there is still hope for the season.

Maybe there’s a chance that the decision whether or not to shut him down hinges on a W or L this Sunday?

  45. NFLNut Says:

    ************************

    Lamarcus … well said.

The Bucs won 16 of the previous 64 games (.250 win percentage) before Jameis got there … they’ve won 17 of the 39 games since they drafted him (that’s a 74.4% increase in winning percentage).

Let’s say the Rams go 9-7 this year and then trade Goff and a couple of picks to move up and grab Sam Darnold #1 overall … if he led them to a 15-1 record that would ONLY be a 66.6% increase in win percentage!

Jameis AS-IS is a 15 year starter in the NFL and a guy who’s career numbers will obliterate EVERY QB that has ever played including Brees, Brady, Manning and Favre.

You loons that bash him need to support him as he’s either going to be starting for the Bucs for the next 15 years or he’s going to be starting for another team for the next 15 years and you’re going to wish he was starting for the Bucs … deal with it!

    ********************************

  46. Bobby M. Says:

The dude is fine….only people questioning it are the media. He played fine in buffalo…no concerns. Falls apart last week…media acts flabbergasted. He’s been erratic since he came in the league.

  47. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I love Winston, but he’s not a franchise QB yet. I’m as objective as they come, so I will say he’s not a bust like some will say. Heath Shuler, JaMarucs Russell, RG3, Rick Mirer, Akili Smith, Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch… those guys are busts. Winston has shown that he can play in this league. He might not be ready to carry a franchise every week, but no 23 year old can. He is wildly inaccurate at times and pin point laser at other times. Decision making is his main problem and I know I didn’t always make good decisions at 23. We are in a better spot than most teams right now. Even if we finish 2-14, plenty of teams would trade QBs with us. Winston doesn’t have to be Tom Brady, he just has to be Eli Manning. I’ll take his career in a heartbeat! Get the lines fixed and we might win something. Go Bucs!

  48. Buc1987 Says:

    Bravo NFLNut.

  49. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Winston also has no running game and knows that our D mostly sucks. He has to take risks. He just had to learn when to take those risks.

  50. JimmyJack Says:

NFLnut…….Tampa Bay has its loon fans and so does every other city in the league. Our loon fans deserve a franchise QB just as much as any other team. Maybe even more so considering the product we have had to root for all these years.

Nice try coming onto our board and talking up teams like Denver and New England acting like they don’t have their equal share of loons but that just isn’t true to say the least………The only time you don’t see loons in a fan base is when they are winning but as soon as they start to lose the loons will come out every time.

  51. USFBUC Says:

The Bucs should start playing smarter and play for draft position. Any wins now hurt the value of our draft pick next year. Unless we know something about the rest of the games and we know we will make the playoffs trying to win now is just dumb.

  52. Bucsfan107 Says:

Jets look way better them the bucs lol

  53. DB55 Says:

Why does ASJ look more productive than O.J.? Okay.

  54. Bucsfan107 Says:

    Then*

  55. DB55 Says:

Why are the jets winning with the buc rejects? Hmmmm

  56. JimmyJack Says:

USF…….You seem to have forgotten what the goal of sports is. The goal is to learn how to play at a high level and learn how to win…………Your idea will do nothing but harm to this team, aside from the fact that it will completely shed the fan base and not to mention that a top 5 pick is not worth nearly as much as you wanna give credit for(especially if it comes from a team that is taught to quit for draft picks).

  57. JimmyJack Says:

You could argue ASJ found out what it takes to play in this league on his own……or you could argue he got better coaching that was able to get the most out of him………In either case I wrote off the Jets as a W before the season and now I’m scared of yet another embarrassing loss to lesser competition.

  58. Bird Says:

    Jimmy jack

You are one crazy dude. People are aloud to have an opinion on this website . I like Jameis as a person and a leader. Good kid. However , he is not playing like a #1 pick right now. Hope this changes but we are in year 3.

Just tired of people (mainly the Joe’s cause they do 9 articles just about Jameis and 1 about the rest of the team) blaming everybody but Jameis when they lose. Sure they say he had a bad game from time to time. Blah blah blah

The defense has cost games. No question. But Jameis touches the ball every offensive snap. Am offense goes as it’s quarterback goes. There is so much talent on this team and we score 3 points. Keep blaming everyone else. But it’s pretty obvious when you can’t hit a receiver in stride or connect on a long ball when are receivers have the guy clearly beat. Turnovers out of control

  59. NFLNut Says:

    *******************

    BuccaneEric75,

Jameis is better right now than Eli Manning has ever been in his entire career … however Eli Manning will be a 1st ballot Hall of Famer based on his almost miraculous longevity and health coupled with his average play and his winning two rings against the QB many consider to be the GOAT. Had the Giants defense not shut Brady down in those two SB’s and Eli had zero rings, he’d be considered in the same boat as Carson Palmer and Drew Bledsoe and would have to buy a ticket to get into Canton.

I don’t say the above to bash Eli, I’m saying it because if you’d be happy with a 20 year career of average QB play and two miraculous SB runs led by a defense, than you should be over-joyed with Jameis, who at 23, is already better than Eli Manning ever was … the future is very, very bright in Tampa and it’s a shame the loon fans can’t see it.

    ********************

  60. DB55 Says:

    Bird

In your opinion which Young q.v. is better? What/how should a number one pick play? Do you have an example?

  61. Defense Rules Says:

@JimmyJack … “Nice try coming onto our board and talking up teams like Denver and New England acting like they don’t have their equal share of loons but that just isn’t true to say the least………The only time you don’t see loons in a fan base is when they are winning but as soon as they start to lose the loons will come out every time.”

@JimmyJack … “Altered Ego……I enjoy the debate. It’s my right as a sports fan. And don’t tell me what to do I’ll say whatever I please…….Unlike you I can keep it about sports. Whine all you like and holler at me when you have something to say that I care about.”

@JimmyJack … “Not sure where your coming from but your comparisons to P.Barber(who is completely healthy to the best of my knowledge) seems irrelevant and comparison to Dan Synder(for what? Not shutting down RGIII ending his career with the Skins) seems to go against your opinion.”

“Coming onto OUR board?” Interesting take JimmyJack. Went back to look at some of your previous bits of wisdom and couldn’t find any before just a few months ago. You seem to be bent on attacking any number of long-time fans who post on JBF for their opinions. From what I saw of your past posts, you added very little to the conversation about where the Bucs are & where they go from here. Oh and BTW, you seem to have a propensity to read things into others’ comments but you apparently dislike them reading things into yours. Just an observation.

  62. Buccaneer scotty Says:

Make all the excuses you want say it how you want to say it flip flop it blame the secondary blame the defensive line blame the running game blame the offense of line same old Bucs but don’t worry next year will be in the playoffs lol what a joke and whatever you do don’t blame Winston

  63. NFLNut Says:

    ***************

JimmyJack … I imagine your right that ALL teams have loon fans but I really think the JW-haters may take the cake.

Bashing JW after he became the youngest Pro Bowl QB in history, the ONLY QB in history to start his career with back to back 4,000 yard season, and turned a 2-14 team into a 9-7 team within 2 years is not the same thing as Rams fans bashing Goff last year for not even being good enough to start, or Broncos fans bashing Paxton Lynch for not even being good enough to beat out Osweiler for a backup slot behind Trevor Siemian. Those fans have or had legitimate reasons to act like loons … Tampa fans don’t, at least not where Jameis is concerned.

Tampa fans have every right to be frustrated by the team’s 2-5 record, but to blame the 23 year old QB that coming into last game which he played hurt was on pace for a 4,807 yard, 30 TD and 12 INT season with a 95.5 passer rating and a lower INT rate than dinkNdunk Dak “game manager” Prescott is just asinine.

I imagine that most every other team fans out there, if there team was 2-5 but their QB was having the year Jameis is having would NOT be blaming Jameis but merely calling for the GM, head coach and coordinators to be fired … or blaming the horrendous defense, etc.

Derek Carr has regressed this year and the Raiders, once a sexy SB pick, look like a 6-10 team … but I don’t hear Raiders fans killing Carr.

Dak has also regressed and the Cowboys look like they will miss the playoffs but I don’t hear Cowboy fans killing Dak.

Matt Ryan has fallen off the cliff compared to last year and the Falcons look like they will miss the playoffs but I don’t hear Falcons fans killing Ryan.

Cam Newton has played like garbage outside of a couple of games and if the Panthers lose again to the Saints as they already did in Carolina, they may also miss the playoffs, but I don’t hear Panther fans killing Cam.

And ALL of the above QBs, even Dak are older than Jameis and none are playing as hurt as Jameis either nor do any have a defense as porous as the one Jameis has … yet loon Bucs fans like to kill Jameis.

    IT’S SOOO STUPID …

    ****************

  64. JimmyJack Says:

Bird, I’m not going to argue you on the miscues Winston makes. He does deserve the critism.

But I’m also not going to fixate all my attention on the QB when their are so many diffencies around him.

Of course Winston is not performing like we expected but I also didn’t expect Him to be the only thing that can win us games. As a team the Bucs are pathetic right now and I see no reason why so many fans can put all the blame on Winston while the rest of the team struggles in every area of the game. That is a recipe for disaster no matter who is at QB.

Just going from last game and just on memory we dropped 3 first down receptions. Killed 2 drives with pentalties. Wasted a chance to get the ball at the end of 1st half. Offensive line got bullied. Botched a coverage in the end zone. No running game. Missed block…………How in the world is QB play supposed to make up for all of that? I got news for you it won’t……because even if Winston had managed to keep us in that game we were not playing well enough around him to not lose it………Somehow the Panthers would have taken advantage of our poor play elsewhere on the field. You cannot play that bad all over the field and think that you can win in this league. That game was sealed at halftime when the Bucs, yet again, showed they weren’t ready to play……as a team.

I’m all for putting Winston under the microscope but is it asking too much to want to see a competent team for him to play on before we start to judge his true ability in this league?

  65. redtop5588 Says:

i agree NFLNUT i for one am very happy to have Winston as our QB hes still learning does he make so bonehead plays sometimes yes but he is still 100 times better than anything we have ever had he by far a great leader players want to play for him an play with him he loves the game an when we do get right and turn the corner boy were going to be good for a long time it just seems like some BUCS fans are never happy I for ONE like i said before AM VERY HAPPY with Winston GOBUCS

  66. JimmyJack Says:

NFLnut…..For what it’s worth I think the numbers Winston has achieved will mean less as the years go on. The views of younger and rookie QBs are much different then they were years ago when they would let QBs develope……Also the rule changes from the last decade or so have dictated a more passer friendly league.

Not to say his numbers are not an accomplishment but my opinion is time will show they are not as world breaking as they seem today.

  67. NFLNut Says:

Winston isn’t performing as you expected?

What sort of a lunatic would expect a 21 year old QB to do more than throw for 9k+ yards and 60 TDs and win 19 games in his first 39 games after being drafted by a 2-14 laughing stock?

Jameis has outperformed expectations by a long shot!

  68. JimmyJack Says:

Ok Defense…..Point well taken. Just wish I knew what it was.

  69. JimmyJack Says:

NFLnut…….I think a lot of Buc fans expect Winston to hit more often on the long balls when he has an open receiver. Missing on those points is where fans are getting let down.

His stats are great, no doubt. But sometimes context has to be accounted for.

  70. JimmyJack Says:

Of course there would be a longer leash on Winston in the eyes of fans if he didn’t miss a receiver for 7 only to drive the ball afterward and his kicker misses the 3. That has been a scenerio that has been seen far too often with this team. As Dirk Koetter said “winning heals all wound” just wish he knew how to get it done

  71. USFBUC Says:

Jimmy Jack you don’t understand how to play the game. The season is basically over at this point. So what is the point of winning games if you can’t make the playoffs? The owners will make money still, real fans will still be here next year, we will still have our core of young players, and we would have a high draft pick. That high draft pick has value as shown in this previous draft and the record number of trades.

Your form of logic is like the guy who is $5000 from moving into the next tax bracket and begging for $5001 on his annual raise.

  72. NFLNut Says:

JimmyJack … you’re right that stats will change as eras change … however, I do believe Jameis will retire as the NFL’s ALL-TIME leader in passing yards and TDs and I don’t care what era one plays in, that is an awesome achievement.

It was great when Tarkenton did it … when Marino did it … when Favre did it … when Peyton did it … and will be when Brees does it … and then when Jameis does it … and if some kid named Dilbob Wigbert breaks Jameis’ records come 2050 when the NFL is even more passing friendly, such will still be an awesome achievement.

  73. JimmyJack Says:

Ok USF…….You really think that this team will be battle tested and ready to win games if our coaching staff teaches them to lose for the last nine weeks of the season? What are you thinking a rookie will come in here and then teach us how to win because he is that very good? You must be off your rocker?

Not sure about your anology but give mine a try……….what if you took a team of salesman and taught them how to botch some baby deal so you can hire an A+ salesman……..I’ll take my group and teach them how to close and I’ll get a B+ prospect……..Then when the big deal roll in whose team do you think closes more deals.

If you want winners you gotta teach them how to win…….not teach them how to quit and sit on your hands waiting for help. Your theory is ridiculous at best……..Let’s let the Falcons and Saints pummel us twice to close out the year and that will help us beat them next year……hahahahahaha

  74. Joeypoppems Says:

    @NFLNut

I agree with you on Jameis for the most part. Id pump the brakes on “HOF talent” tho. No need to set expectations that high lol.

  75. NFLNut Says:

USFBUC … I’m all for tanking if playoffs are out of reach, but I wouldn’t rest Jameis is he’s healthy, I’d just demand my team lose the game by hook or crook

  76. braum Says:

guarantee Jameis gets a second contract here

  77. NFLNut Says:

    Joeypoppems,

Jameis is absolutely a HOF talent … the kid is a true phenom and is shattering age-related records which is what HOF talents do.

He was a pop warner phenom, elite 11 MVP, #1 QB prospect in high school, youngest Heisman ever, youngest Pro Bowl QB ever, ONLY QB to start career with b2b 4k, etc … Jameis is a true HOF talent, phenom and on a HOF pace … JW-bashers are idiotic.

  78. NFLNut Says:

    BRAUM,

I might take that bet if by “second contract” you don’t just mean an extension or franchise tag but a true multi-year extension, as I have a feeling that the Bucs will exercise Jameis’ 5th year option and that he will then force them to use the franchise tag on him for his 6th year and then become an unrestricted free agent in 2021 when the new NFL CBA kicks in and the contracts could escalate a great deal … and at that time I could see him signing with the Patriots to replace Brady or Saints to replace Brees or with any other solid organization with a proven track record like the Steelers, Giants, Ravens, etc.

  79. NFLNut Says:

    JimmyJack,

Tanking is anything but idiotic. The Titans benefitted massively from Mariota’s rookie year being so pathetic in regards to team success as they earned a high pick and flipped it for extra picks and then drafted wisely.

The Colts ONLY hope of ever being good during the Luck era may be for them to TANK this year, get a top 3 pick and then trade down for a ton of extra picks and draft wisely.

I have said before I doubt the Buccaneers pick before the #10 slot and that will probably be too late to trade down for a King’s ransom, or to get a top flight talent like Saquon Barkely, so it’s right in the no-man’s land and that ain’t good.

If we knew 100% the Bucs were not going to make the playoffs this year AND could a top 3 pick which we could trade down for a boatload of picks AND draft wisely, if we lost ALL the remaining 9 games on the schedule, I’d say, go ahead and lose em …

  80. PRBucFan Says:

My god do you ever shut up? Or do you honestly believe everyone wants to read your crap interjections on everyones posts 24/7?

God you are obnoxious as hell. It is not your job to correct everyone around here all the damn time. Flippin Troll if I ever saw one.

We get it you think JW is the next Jesus of the NFL who is perfect with no ability to do wrong and will own every single record known to man by the time he retires at the age of 75 along with his his plethora of MVP awards.

My goodness you really have a hard on for this kid. Let me add you to the short list of posts I will immediately skip the moment I read your handle. Done.

  81. Bucsfan107 Says:

We lose to the jets I see a 2-14 season coming and a new hc maybe a new qb but i think they give him one more year and he is out of the nfl for good maybe a backup in Minnesota to end his career like many qbs in this league

“Jameis … 39 straight starts and counting and building a Brett Favre resume for toughness …”

Yep, but also building a Vinny Testeverde resume for turnovers and bad decision making.

    PRBucFan,

If you don’t like my posts, don’t read them … many enjoy them … I don’t care either way.

As for JW … no, I do NOT think he is football Jesus or anything else unrealistic. This is what cracks me up about loons like you … I post FACTS and you don’t like the facts so you personally attack me; it’s all rather childish but I get a kick out of it so feel free to continue.

I have no problem saying Brady, Brees and especially Rodgers are all BETTER than Jameis right now.I have no problem saying that Alex Smith and Sam Bradford and many others are more accurate than Jameis right now. I have no problem saying that Dak and Tyrod are better “game managers” than Jameis right now. However, none of those things changes the fact that Jameis is a true phenom, the most accomplished QB of his age in the history of football and that if he merely stays healthy, ala Eli Manning, or even plays through pain, ala Brett Favre, he will become the NFL’s all-time leader in passing yards & TDs by the time he retires.

I don’t make wild or asinine statements based on nothing, I post facts and at times make future predictions based on past results … and that drives nonsensical loons and JW bashers such as yourself nuts, to the point you have to rant and rave about me … it cracks me up!

  85. Buc1987 Says:

NFLNut…I thought you were just a JW fan…lot’s of “we’s”in the above post about tanking…you’re not a “we”.

  86. PRBucFan Says:

lol He obviously didn’t understand when I said I wasn’t going to read his regurgitations anymore.

Why are you going to waste so much space in a long ass post? The moment I saw your name and PRBucFan I skipped riiiiight over it ahahaha.

  87. Bucsfan107 Says:

Well he obviously hasn’t been a fan since the josh freeman days we have seen this all before as fana….. Just a fan boy pulling at straws throwing stats in fans faces can we kick him ?

  88. Bucsfan107 Says:

    Fans

  89. NFLNut Says:

TEAM fans generally can’t be realistic or logical as they are far too rabid.

Lord Cornelius is an exception but most of the posters on these forums are completely illogical, nonsensical and void of any long-term perspective, let alone historical perspectives of other team’s quarterbacks.

Many of you guys are LOONS.

  90. Rob Says:

People talking about Winston’s stats like he’s the second coming of tom brady…
His best stats are in garbage time against prevent defenses. It’s not drops, or protection that hurts this offense as much as it is the wild inconsistencies in passing accuracy. He very rarely hits receivers in stride, forcing them to slow down or reach behind for a catch, and his deep balls on wide open receivers are never on target. People want to blame playcalling, but I’ve seen huge plays every game. Receivers wide open, and streaking towards the endzone… only for the ball to fall 5-10 yards ahead of them.

    Jameis is hugely overrated.

  91. Wewantgruden Says:

NFLNUTJOB: get over your man crush with JW. He is taken. You keep using the name of P Manning and Favre were n talking about him. You are so distant from reality. Look at the TWO games we won: JW performed well as a game manager, which is all he can ever be in this league. He limited his turnovers. The coaches ran plays that did not allow him to make bone-headed desicions. Let’s all pray that he does not stay here beyond 2017 season.

  92. 813bucboi Says:

the staff wont shut him down because their jobs are on the line and he gives them the best chance to win….this team aint going nowhere this year….it would be smart for them to shut him down so they could use that as an excuse to be kept….but this staff is incompetent….they’ll risk Winston and get canned after the season….GO BUCS!!!!

  93. NFLNut Says:

CELLER DUELER aka Wewantgruden … Favre was a wild turnover machine his entire HOF career and Peyton Manning threw ONE HUNDRED INTERCEPTIONS in just his first 5 years … HAVE FUN MAKING A FOOL OF YOURSELF “CELLER DUELER” AKA Wewantgruden

  94. Rob Says:

Wtf is a cellar dueler? Did you mean dweller? Asking for a friend.
