The Bad Explosive Plays

November 30th, 2017

“Ira, you have any ideas?”

Recently, Bucs coach Dirk Koetter bemoaned the fact the Bucs are not getting enough explosive plays.

Per Koetter, an explosive play is a run of 12 yards or more, or a pass play of 16 yards or more.

But the Bucs are getting a lot of explosive plays. Just not the kind Koetter wants.

Per BSPN’s “NFL Matchup,” only four teams have given up more explosive plays on defense than the Bucs. Your Pewter Pirates have allowed 101 explosive plays this season.

Yes, that’s the same Mike Smith-led Bucs defense that is last in the NFL in yards-per-game allowed. The Bucs are currently coughing up 395 yards a game.

Fun times.

Oh jimny cricket as Lee would say. The point of the soft coverage that Mike Smith is running is to stop plays getting behind them, and prevent explosive plays. If it’s not doing that then what is it doing?
I think that’s the last straw for me, Mike Smith has to go.

What will truly be fun is when I read on JBF that this joke of a coach has been fired!

    Enough with the Stats

    Who cares?

This team is trending down with too many chunks of losses since last season. We lose this one and Koetter & Company are done….The five game win streak of last year appears to be more of a statistical outlier then a base to build on.

I remember back when we were picking D coordinator some of us wanted Jim Swartz. I had a feeling then we got the wrong guy. Now look what the Eagles defense is doing. Makes you wonder what might have been. Go Bucs!

  7. Hodad Says:

Koetter should worry more about moving the chains on offense instead of big plays. Going for big chunks, and not getting them leads to turnovers, and to many 3, and outs. This puts your D on the field more, leading to a tired D, that will give up more big plays. Koetter just doesn’t get it. Can’t wait to see this circus leave town. Sorry Joe, when he leaves his record will show he was LOSING coach Koetter!

Why don’t the Bucs name Ira the interim coach for the remainder of the season. He’s well liked, fiery, would tell Saggy Baker how it is and perhaps his dog Dante would serve as the unofficial mascot.

This defense is akin to the “bad explosion” I had after eating Taco Bell the other day!!!
