Three South Winners & One Loser

October 29th, 2017

“Season on the line, young fella.”

Remember back in 2014, when the Panthers won the NFC South with just seven victories?

Those were interesting times, considering the Bucs couldn’t win a damn game but were “in the race” well into November.

Not the case this year. The NFC South only has one slappy, and it’s your Buccaneers.

The Panthers are 5-3 after humiliating the Bucs today. New Orleans is 5-2 and winners of five in a row. And the defending NFC South champion Falcons are 4-3.

The Falcons head to Carolina next week, and the Bucs cruise up to face New Orleans.

It’s an extraordinarily safe bet to say the NFC South will have at least two teams with winning records this year. And that means the Bucs will have to close the season 8-1 to have any shot at the playoffs, given the other strong teams around the NFC.

For the optimists with Wild Card dreams, it sure would help if the Lions could fall at home to the Steelers tonight.

Yes, Joe realizes the Bucs’ season is on the very edge of being lost, and is creeping toward becoming a mandatory house-cleaning situation. But there’s always room for optimism when the calendar and the math still offers hope.

So if you’re prone to fantasy, pour some champagne tonight and dream of the Bucs winning three in a row and ridding this town of their stench.

Optimism? The only thing I’m optimistic about is the jettisoning of Jason “Joe Named a Beer After Me” Licht.

  5. Chris Says:

Way way way too much talent on this team to be in this position.

One lucky win vs NFC South possibly…an o’fer six is more likely.

Let’s face the brain trust of the organization did nothing to address our biggest needs in the off season. draft this year has done absolutely nothing to make us a better team. Don’t care OJ Howard turns out to be Tony Gonzalez !!! Guess what he or Antonio Gates doesn’t have SB ring. Hall of Fame tight ends don’t win Super Bowl’s …. hall fame defense of Line men do! Until this team has a dominant d line we have no chance to win .

Trade McCoy for some draft picks and show me that you’re serious about changing the losing culture Mr. Licht.
It’s a savvy business move to boot.
I know he’s such a great 3-technique DT, but ya know what…..it obviously doesn’t matter. We suck on defense.
We looked ok today because Carolina ain’t great on offense.
I’m onboard with getting rid of Grandpa Man Boobs as well and hiring a defensive coordinator who has sack and brings fire to the team.

It also wouldn’t hurt to sit Jameis and let Fitz have a go at it.
The object is to win games after all right?

To the den of depression! Dilly dilly!

  13. 813bucboi Says:

Dirk has shown he’s not fit to be HC…. Smitty has shown he’s not fit to be DC…. Things need to change… Can’t waste Winston Evans Kwon like we’ve wasted GMC Doug LVD…GO BUCS!!!

Here’s to another disappointing season we’re accustomed to.

  15. Joeypoppems Says:

Idk if its true or not but there are reports out there that Winston might have a slight tear in his rotator cuff and could need offseason surgery.

If that is true then I say shut him down now and let him get surgery now so he could be fully healed for next year.

Then for the rest of this season start Ryan Griffin at QB NOT Fitzpatrick to see if he can be a long term backup QB.

Playoffs are out of reach at this point. Might as well right?

  16. Joeypoppems Says:

People are overestimating GMC’s trade value. After Dareus got traded for a 6th I would be shocked if GMC commanded more than a 4th round pick.

  17. Daniel Says:

There’s no chance of the Bucs beating the Saints next week in the Dome, but just for fun they play the Jets/Dolphins next. You’d be in it at 5-5

  18. Not there yet Says:

That’s a bucs life for you, hoping other teams keep our playoff hopes alive a little bit longer by losing. Sooner or later people it will done in this team will have a couple out of the blue spectacular wins like they did at Kansas City last year but ultimately fall short as usual. Even if they go on a run but fall short of the playoffs how could that be considered a positive unless all we expected was to be close. These players are more than happy with just being in the conversation, they don’t have the stones to actually play like the favorites

  19. Warren Sapp Says:

Daniel, wouldn’t the record be 4-6 and not in it? We’re not beating the Jets.

  20. BucJ Says:

Bucs 2017 mock draft rounds 1-4

Round 1 : RB: Saquon Barkley. If not, Guice or Love.

    Round 2: DE: Harold Landry

    Round 3: QB: Clayton Thoreson

    Round 4: CB: Jaire Alexander

  21. Joeypoppems Says:

I like Bryce Love a lot and I will tell you now that he is not worth a 1st round pick lol.

  22. Jim Says:

    Next year.

  23. Buck Rodgers Says:

Yucs need to go 8-1 to make the playoffs……. on to the tank for 2018!

  24. Pryda...sec 147 Says:

    Jameis can do it

  25. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

    Dilly Dilly!

  26. BucJ Says:

Joeypoppems Yeah, I understand, but say if Barkley and Guice are gone, your top RBs left are Chubb and Love. Chubb reminds me of Doug Martin. I like Love, but speed is his main forte and seems a bit light for a RB

  27. PRBucFan Says:

    THIS JUST IN

    WE STILL SUCK

  28. Daniel Says:

Picking a RB is about the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

Landry is going to be a Top 10 pick

  29. Steve O Says:

Here we are again wishing for the best first round pick. Long time Bucs fan swirling in the depression of losing again and again.

  30. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

Cut the baby dolls. No heart. No passion. GMC. I get it you are beast but you are also not a savage. Good guys always finish last and maybe this just isn’t the sport for you.

  31. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

    Kicker lost us 1 game
    Defense lost us 2 games
    Offense lost us 1 game

The kicker is fixed, the defense is fixed, and the offensive will be fixed next week. Go bucs!

  32. buccadawg Says:

Maybe the problems on offense start with fixing the problem under center. He is not showing improvement at the rate you would think. I for one am tired of the announcers trying to convince the fans he is a gunslinger like Farve, he’s a average QVC with a tendency to float the ball and over throw receivers. Hope he gets it.

  33. DallasBuc Says:

How come no headlines about Donovan Smith? Oline was tuuurrrible led by fattest loser 76 who is as soft as the rest of this team. Unacceptable

  34. ATrain Says:

    A 4th round for GMC

    Hahahhah

    He is aPro Bowl player

Possibly the BEST DT in the league

Do you not read Joe’s articles???

    We could get a 1st and 2nd

  36. Joe Says:

Censorship to mask delicate sensibilities is sad

LOL First, “censorship” — as you call it — is standard practice in a business. And Joe is a business. He is fully responsible for every character typed on this website by brave men who go by cute handles. (Dudes talking tough behind handles is akin to Jimbo Fisher hiding behind cops and hollering at a fan to come after him.)

    Carry on.

  37. Bernie K Says:

    DILLY DILLY

  38. Owlykat Says:

Licht could have used his third round pick on a pass rusher if he had only kept Russell Shepherd who instead helped the stinking Panthers not only catching passes but returning kicks too. On the defensive side we played great the last six games last year so he should not have let any of our defensive players leave in free agency but genius Licht thought he knew better. He is the cause of this year’s fiasco! He needs to be dumped and get a GM who knows how to build our OL and DL so we at last can protect Jameis, open holes, and on Defense rush the passer every down and stop the run!!! If not the minute Jameis is a free agent he will be gone and will win a Super Bowl for another team.

JAMEIS DOESN’T JUST PLAY LIKE BRETT FAVRE, HE PLAYS THROUGH PAIN LIKE BRETT FAVRE TOO!

You nutjobs live week-2-week and make yourselves look like idiots.

No one cares that Favre had some of the worst single games in NFL history, filled with insane throws, crazy fumbles, tons of picks, wild inaccuracy, etc., etc., etc … what people remember is that Favre loved football, loved his teammates, would play through anything, and when he was “on”, was absolutely dominant … all the same things can be said about JW through his first 2.5 years in the league and JW is building a great legacy … and you idiots are missing enjoying it … I feel bad for all of you.

  40. PRBucFan Says:

lol this guy spamming this wack article ahahaha apparently by only watching game video and having zero access to anything medical on Jameis this guy knows something TB themselves don’t know about a new injury JW now has… that made me chuckle.
