There Is Still A Chance

Percentages emerge

For the hearty souls out there amid the desolate Bucs fanbase this morning, there is hope.

Slim and scant hope.

It seems the Bucs still have a chance to make the playoffs, even having dug themselves a 2-5 hole.

But little chance. In fact, it’s damned near invisible.

PlayoffStatus.com offers weekly updates of teams’ odds of making the playoffs and percentages of them advancing into the playoffs, based on records and NFL history. Per their calculations, the Bucs are alive at 2-5. Yes, a two percent chance.

Frankly, the way this season is playing out, Joe likes the odds that Nick Chubb or Saquon Barkely are wearing Bucs uniforms next year more than the Bucs making the 2017 playoffs.

Which player are you putting your money on?

Yes there is with an average NFL QB….plenty of offensive talent

  2. Jason Says:

Please stop with that nonsense the season is over tank for Barkley starts now.

  3. sorryitriggeredyou Says:

    Stop trolling us Joe.

  4. Not there yet Says:

Seems like they have a higher chance of getting the first overall pick than making the playoffs. With this kind of offensive weapons heads should roll for scoring 3 points in a game or barely getting into the other teams territory.

If Winston is hurt and this coach is playing this guy for his own selfish reason please get him outta here, based on where he’s leading this team he’s not the guy anyway.

  5. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

We’re not going to beat the Saints, so that pretty much says it all.

My new concern is this: Will Jason Licht spend our high draft pick on a defensive end worth his salt, or will he go after a running back, of which we need but can take later?

  6. Buck Rodgers Says:

Haven’t won a game in a month. This team looks like they have already made off season plans!

  7. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Tampa fans are dimwits. Last week, they wanted the head of Mike Smith and said Koetter was doing a good enough job with the offense. This week, Smith is suddenly alright and Koetter needs to go.

    Dimwits.

If you look at it objectively, there are a few bright spots with the play of this team. For instance, our kicking game is healthy. If we only had to punt or kick field goals, we’d be a shoe-in for the playoffs at this point!
Brian Anger and Patrick Murray for co-MVP! Maybe Cam Brate.

  9. nate_tweetz Says:

draft talk already…ugh. I won’t start getting specific with all that at this point, but I think it’s pretty clear our biggest needs are on the defensive side (DE & CB). FA and draft dreamers should be looking to sure up that first before trying to find another shiny offensive “toy”. Not saying we don’t need an RB, but I don’t think it’s our pressing need. Our OL is not getting the job done in my opinion as far as the running game goes.

  10. Bucsfanman Says:

Bonzai- Good question. Can you pass on a guy like Barkley though? With the play-calling of late, I’d say yes, because he won’t get used properly.
They have got to find pass-rushers ASAP. This borders on ridiculous!

  11. darin Says:

Im hoping for bradley chubb. Nick might slip to round 2, where we could make it a double chubby. Yep here we are talking draft. Playoffs?? Playoffs? Were just trying to win a game. This team is unprepared. Always next year

  12. SB Says:

Dam Nick Chubb, how about Bradley Chubb or Arden Key

  13. Greg Says:

That percentage probably dips when you factor in that this team literally isn’t good at anything

  14. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    mary Samsonite joe!

  15. SB Says:

Did anyone notice how much better VH3 played yesterday in Press coverage? I thought we were gonna get lit up but he and Ryan Smith did a good job yesterday

  16. nate_tweetz Says:

I know everyone (mostly) is disappointed we didn’t get Dalvin when we had the chance and I agree, but it KILLS me watching Marlon Mack ball out for the Colts as a late round draft pick, when the dude was in our own “backyard”.

  17. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @SB

I noticed that as well. Amazing how Tampa fans wanted to give up on both players, and with a little patience, they are getting better.

  18. Justin Suttrich Says:

We’re not getting the number 1 overall pick. A top 5 selection is certainly possible though. Barkley or Arden Key would both provide HUGE upgrades at the RB and DE positions. I myself like Key more than Chubb.

Tampa needs to sit Jameis, M. Evans, Kwon and Lavonte the rest of the season. Let Godwin, Beckwith and J. Evans get as many reps as possible.

  19. doolnutts Says:

Too much talent… We will finish 6-10 or 7-9 at worst.

  20. Jim Says:

Sit your injured Jameis and play both your back-up QBs. Then build a balanced team, not one purely focused on an MVP QB that you don’t have…

  21. Alaskabuc Says:

    @Jim

    Agreed bro

  22. bucster Says:

I love how people keep saying “too much talent on this team”. Where? One WR and a couple of LBs ain’t gonna make a good team.

  23. LakeLand Says:

    LOL SMH

  24. Lamarcus Says:

Arden key is a fit here

  25. 813bucboi Says:

screw the rb….get DE, DT, T/G help….we need to stop getting bullied in the trenches….GO BUCS!!!!

been saying man press is what they do best….only took smitty 6games to realize that….after all the college film of them playing man press….its evident smitty was “forcing his scheme” on them…..now, if smitty would play GMC at DE along with glostonand have baker and clint in the middle we may be able to stop the run and put a little pressure on the qb….I guess he’ll figure that out in another 6games….GO BUCS!!!

  27. Poor Glennon Says:

Tic tock tic tock 25 games til we get a real QB. Glad i ran across that low wonderlick score Winston has. More fuel for the 🔥

  28. Dylan Says:

Derwin James all day. If we draft offense again lol we will never be relevant and we’re wasting mikes and jameis winstons prime years. I think mike is starting to realize it from
His comments. St this point 2% I hope we suck and get a top 8 pick so we can land Derwin James. Or minsah Fitzpatrick from Alabama. Saquon Barkley ok, but there’s a 1% chance that happens he is going top 2.

  29. Mike Johnson Says:

Theres a chance allright. A chance the Glazers will pull the cord on Koetter and Smith after this season. A very good chance indeed! There is NOT a chance however the Saints are gonna just lie down in New Orleans this Sunday. No chance at all. Matter of fact, The Defense of the Saints are taking orthopedic shoulder/arm classes to know where to directly hit and take Jameis down on that shoulder. This is war and the Bucs are bleeding profusely. Saints smell..Blood on the tracks!!

  30. NJBucsFan Says:

Just stop trying to make fetch happen! It’s not going to happen!

There is an US in suck

  31. NJBucsFan Says:

@dylan…many NFL scouts are saying James is not what he is being hyped to be. I’m all for staying away from him

  32. Cobraboy Says:

    Really? A chance?

Who left on the schedule can this trainwreck beat?

This team is all mouth and no heart.

CB’s Law of Rhetorical Economics: The reason “talk is cheap” is because the supply exceeds the demand.

    Saints by 27.

  33. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Bonzai

Agree I hope he goes after DE’s not RB’s early.

I think all of us need to be cautious about throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

There are MANY reasons teams lose and in a sports as complex as football…53 players…Coaches…Management…lots of moving pieces and lots of synergy required.

We are NOT happy with our results. But to simply say…throw the bums out is simplistic. Did our injuries contribute even a little bit. Well our star defender…an MLB at that has missed most of the season….our QB has played two weeks with a bum shoulder…our RB was suspended 3 games…same as injury.

I’m not for using the injuries as an excuse…but they have contributed.
#3 needs to improve…but it’s hard to conclude much from the current small sample…other than to say…#3 our entire defense are erratic!!! ME13…I love him but he’s been erratic…apparently we are getting some erratic play from our OL.

I just think it’s time to park #3….can you say Andrew Luck…we have Ryan Griffin who is now healthy who we need to see if he’s as promising on the field as he’s sometimes been in practice. It not only lets us protect our investment it also takes any pressure or delusions about how we’re going to finish this season.

The bottom line is that there is NO simple reason for our malaise…there is no simple solution…I agree with Rod Munch…this franchise has been knee jerk for far too often. Mike Smith has an EXCELLENT reputation as a defensive mind and coach…over a decade…he didn’t simply forget all that in six months! Same for Koetter.

I wouldn’t be signing any contract extensions but I’d definitely bring back..Licht Koetter and Smitty.

  34. NewTampaChris Says:

The reason that 2-5 teams don’t make the playoffs IS BECAUSE THEY SUCK!!! THAT’S WHY THEY ARE 2-5!!!!!!

  35. orlbucfan Says:

This is not a 2-5 team. Koetter and Smith sure coach like they are.

  36. Bucs Sam Says:

    playoffs…?! Playoffs?!?…..

Bucs are currently 7 point dogs at the Saints….. we are all in the company of teams with rookie QB’s or journeyman QB’s

    Playoffs?

  37. Buddy Says:

Just STOP right now ANY talk of playoffs. Seriously, do you hear yourself??

  38. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

Yeah, the Bucs problem is that they need a RB. Riiiiiiiight.

I’ve been saying the same thing for YEARS. As long as the worst LT in the league is the starting LT for the Bucs, this team will go nowhere. He is problem #1 as I can count 5 drives in 2 weeks he had a direct hand in stalling due to penalties and pressures allowed. He is an abysmal LT. PFF is and was right about him.

The Bucs need a pass rush. Period. Watch any other NFL game. Literally any other and you will see such a difference of pressure being applied by literally every other defensive line in the NFL.

Those are problems 1 and 2.

So let’s stop the fantasy football pipe dream about drafting a RB with a top 10 pick when there are tons of examples THIS YEAR of guys contributing who were drafted in the 2nd and later rounds.

  39. NFLNut Says:

    *******************

I wouldn’t mind an ALL-OUT TANK … but I do think this team goes 2-4 in division and beats the Dolphins, Jets and Packers to finish 7-9 … just good enough to miss out on a top draft pick … yuck!

    *******************

  40. ManzielMadness Says:

    @Bonzai andStPete

Agree with both of you except DE is supposed to be very thin this year. So maybe we go RB round 1 or maybe we try and trade McCoy for a 1st and get a DT and RB in the 1st and a DE in the second. I’m also with you for keeping Licht, Koetter, and Smitty for ONE more year but I NEED to see results. We all knew the whole team was basically a hole when Licht took over as somebody pointed out the other day so we’ll spend this offseason loading up on (hopefully) DLine and a RB and potentially spend big money on the trenches in FA (if they can afford to).

  41. Big Stinky Says:

Talking draft before Halloween? Again? Why am I STILL a BUCS fan? How many winning seasons have we had since ’79? Why shouldn’t I just buy a Wentz jersey and become an Eagles fan? Oh yeah, TOO MUCH BUCS CRAP! Do you think I am the ONLY one who is talking Playoffs or Bust? I bet the Glazers are too! Some heads are gonna roll!

  42. PRBucFan Says:

All aboard the Nick Chubb bus

    lol a chance my a$$

Better chance we have a new coaching staff come next April than us winning many more games.

Top 5 pick here we come!
