Doug Martin Says He’ll Hit The JUGS

October 9th, 2017

Rusty hands

The flowing optimism surrounding Doug Martin’s return was cooled a bit today by Martin himself.

Sure, the Muscle Hamster/Dougernaut felt great about returning to action at the Stadium on Dale Mabry Highway. But asked about his showing against the Patriots, Martin said on the Buccaneers Radio Network that he was troubled by “two drops.”

Yes, those drops were catchable balls that weren’t very well placed by America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston. But still, they were key balls that must be hauled in.

Martin said it “sucked” that he came back on a short week, one in which the Bucs didn’t have a real-speed practice, or one in pads. He vowed to hit the JUGS machine to get his hands right.

Practice should help Martin with those hands, though he certainly could have been catching live balls during his month off, or working with a JUGS machine on his own time. Martin had a bad drop in preseason, but Joe’s not about to call it a pattern.

    Your a dumb ass

  2. Easy Denman Says:

Winston was throwing him fastballs and then an obvious onerthrow.

  3. DBS Says:

Well at least we know one is going to try and improve. And the other? He will just keep doing what he does!

  4. Buc1987 Says:

DBS…and not much you can do about it either.

Perhaps for the next 10 yrs!

  5. Gencoimports Says:

I rewatched part of the game over the weekend. That first pass was not catchable, not for his reach. He is being kind to his QB.

  6. AlteredEgo Says:

Is it legal for Jameis to drag a jugs machine out on passing downs or would that give too much away ?

  7. Lamarcus Says:

Shoot. Rusty hands? Brate and inc. Had numerous drops costly drops at that. They played all year too

  8. BushidoEvans Says:

Yo, Bucs fans are the worst….

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Jugs machine…..Pablo can only dream…..Pablo envisions just pushing a button for whatever size jug Pablo wants to handle…..a booty machine would also please Pablo”

  10. CroatiaBucs Says:

You’re amazing Joe, I swear. What has Martin done to you? Did he flirt with your wife or what, I really don’t get it? I mean it’s so obvious this man is by FAR, the best RB on Bucs roster, by far. Think about it, guy returns on a short week and has the game that he had? Wow! Imagine when he gets through a practice in pads, imagine that. And still, you found things like this, taking little jabs at him, initiating that he didn’t work enough in his month off he had to take because of suspension.

I know it’s tough to admit that you were wrong, but Joe, you were wrong. Clearly, you didn’t read what was written here. This is Doug Martin talking about Doug Martin on radio.–Joe

From giving him 15% of making the roster to 50-50 chance. I’m stubborn too, don’t worry, but man, there is a limit. Don’t take these sneaky jabs at the guy just because he proved you wrong. I guess when he goes for 150 and a TD on Sunday it will be because Arizona is just a bad team. And if he has a bad game, you’ll make a special article naming it: “I TOLD YOU HE SUCKS”.

Yes, he’s rusty, but not because he didn’t work enough on his off time like you sugested in this article, it’s because he didn’t play a live game in more than a month. And STILL ran the ball better than all the RB’s combined this season so far. Bouncy, quick explosive. I just think it’s unfair for you to make every possible excuse for your man crush Jamies, and on the other hand not giving any breaks to Martin. That’s why people get mad at you.

Maybe Jamies can use that jugs machine to see how accurate deep ball is flying, and how not to miss recivers left and right for three qtr’s like he did on Thursday.

  11. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

I only recall one drop and one very poorly thrown ball by Jameis. Joe, are you referring to that overthrown screen pass and calling that a drop? I won’t be rude like Scotty and call you names, but I would not call that one a dropped pass, I would call it a piss poor pass that the QB messed up. I love Jameis but at this point I want to see some more accuracy. For the first time ever I am starting to wonder if he is going to make it to elite.

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

There is a difference between a “dropped pass” and a pass that simply wasn’t caught…..the difference is the throw.

It is unreasonable to expect receivers to catch any ball that hits a hand or two. Passes behind receivers or overthrows are difficult….some are better than others.

Jameis shares the blame on these as he should.

  13. Ndog Says:

Man you guys really hate Jameis don’t you?

  14. LakeLand Says:

Doug Martin has always had a problem with drops….Jacquizz Rodgers is the Bucs best receiving back. The thing is the Bucs don’t target him that much.

  15. gilhealy Says:

ndog, it’s really that simple. these guys just needed a reason to hate him.

  16. 941bucsfan Says:

You guys are idiots, brady had several throws behind his receivers and even down low, that his guys made the catch.. Stop making excuses about not catching the ball. The ball hit the receivers hands he is supposed to catch, I didnt hear a damn thing 2 years ago about passes being too high for Mike Evans when he was dropping. Stop defending these guys

  17. The Real Malloy Says:

    Buccaneer scotty..

Its you’re. You’re a dumb ass. Not your.

    You’re a dumb ass.

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Every receiver drops passes now and then…..every QB makes an errant throw now and then…some more than others.

I’m sure someone will disagree with that….

  19. buddah Says:

He has never been a decent receiver. That’s not his trade mark. He runs to daylight and breaks tackles about as well as any back in the league. Tough kid who lost focus last year. Our possibility of reaching the playoffs is contingent on his health and at least four or five 100+ games.

  20. darin Says:

    Real
Exactly buddy. Ive never commented on someones grammar errors before. But when calling someone a dumbass ya gota get it right. Go Bucs

  21. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Uh, I hope you are not referring to me as a Jameis hater. I was as vocal as 87 from the day we got the number one pick that Jameis was the guy and the Mariota lovers were dumb to even think there was a decision to be made between the two. I have continued to say that he is going to be great and end up in the hall of fame from day 1 to now. Having said that, for two years now he has bee unable to hit deep passes and the inaccuracy is starting to concern me. Not sure that qualifies me as a hater. I think he will be a good solid QB at the very least, but I expect greatness from him and for the first time I am not sure if he will. That isn’t hating as much as having a concern.

  22. Benny Robles Says:

What the hell is wrong with you guys? Joe simply was reporting that Doug Martin said himself that he was troubled by the two drops he had. Those were Doug’s words not Joe’s.
As far as Joe having it out for Doug, it’s not because he flirted with his wife as some one so childishly mentioned, maybe it’s because he has let the Bucs and his teammates down in the past.

  23. CroatiaBucs Says:

I don’t hate Jamies, I think he will be very good. I also think he’s not playing well in these first four games as he needs to play for this team to be good.

Just using the same ass-backwards logic on some of my comments, Joe has been using on Doug for the last 3 months.

  24. unbelievable Says:

Lol real Malloy I was thinking the same thing. Derp derp.

As for Martin, he had 1 drop. That other throw was nowhere close.

We keep being reminded that Doug was rusty (pushing aside the fact that he might have been our best performer on offense). So what was Jameis’, Brate’s, Koetter’s and Folk’s excuses?

    🤔

  25. Jameis-Kucherov2020 Says:

Hey Joe, longtime reader and first time poster. Will we ever see a JoeLightningFan website? This site gets me through my work week, thanks! Go Bucs and Go Bolts!

  26. Ndog Says:

I’m not sure how anyone can watch that game and say it is on Jameis. We dropped 8 passes one for a td and missed 2 very make able field goals. If we catch those balls he would have been over 60% with 2 touch downs and we beat the Patriots to go 3-1. Considering that how can you be disappointed in him? What do you expect 100% with 12 tds and to never lose a game? Get realistic fellas. In Minnesota he played like crap but that was not the case last Thursday.

  27. SteelStudBuc Says:

As an optimist… an incomplete pass is better than an interception

  28. darin Says:

    I like Jugs too Dougie!

  29. danr Says:

    Love the druggernaut

  30. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Ndog, Jameis was not sharp for 3 quarters. He manned up in the 4th and yes we should have won the game, however, he also needs to be able to hit on these deep passes to djax and not overthrow Martin on screen passes. I don’t expect perfection but we can win a lot more games if Jameis can start hitting DJax when he creates separation and will score if the ball is thrown accurately.

  31. SB Says:

Do you guys see Trubisky????? Never had to huddle! Not NFL Ready!
Dude is having a WAY better first start than JW. DeShaun Watson has thrown 12 TDs to 4 Ints in the first Quarter of the year!!!
    WTF JW3?
Don’t even get me started on Wentz either.

  32. bucnut2 Says:

TT- we ALL need to acknowledge something. No matte how hard we try, JW is jus not that good. Most of his much acclaimed yards have come in garbage time and his accuracy, is well, not accurate. We are going to spend the next ten years like the Bengal and Charger fans. Always hopeful with the next “addition” that will get our QB over the top and always disappointed that it is not quite enough. We will blame coaches, front office executives etc.. but many of us will never admit that our guy, in this case Winston, was never going to anything more than pedestrian.

  33. DoNUTS Says:

I don’t think anyone hates #3 but he is really under performing for a 3rd year player. If he doesn’t make the playoffs in his first 5 seasons, I think its fair for the fans to ask for change. He could not make a third down against the Pats and it cannot be denied that is a big deal. He has not had a dominant game in some time so of course the skeptics are out. This is a prove it league every game every day. NFL not for long. For those of you talking 10 years…there are only a few QBs that have lasted that long and it was usually because of early SB success. Does anyone think this is a SB team right now? Joe Montana even went to the Chiefs for example.

  34. Joe Says:

Will we ever see a JoeLightningFan website?

Had one. Couldn’t make a dime off of it. Shut it down.

  35. Joe Says:

As far as Joe having it out for Doug, it’s not because he flirted with his wife as some one so childishly mentioned, maybe it’s because he has let the Bucs and his teammates down in the past.

And Joe doesn’t trust him. Thanks Benny. Joe’s tired of explaining he has zero personal issue with Martin. Folks think otherwise. So be it.

  36. Tampabaybucfan Says:

In the spirit of JBF harmony……

Mike Evans is an absolute beast!!!

  37. Lamarcus Says:

Oj doesn’t look to catch a game winning pass.

  38. gambelero Says:

Joe isn’t married guys. You may have him mixed up with his minions, Steve Nesbitt or Lee Diekemper. Joe dates Rachel Watson and hosts parties with Bucs cheerleaders swimming naked in his pool. He’s riding a barstool by mid-morning, while his subordinates are sweating through practice and writing copy into the wee hours of the early afternoon.

  39. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

My crew laugh at you guys all the time! How from your spot on your couch or on the stands you know the route the receiver was suppose to run, or where the receiver has told JW to put it…or where the receiver suppose to be. If you release the ball in anticipation you can not pull it back if the receivers timing is changed.

Some pull out a few QB’S with a few good games and try to compare them with JW. I am a Bucs fan and could give a rat’s a$$ what some other QB is doing!

The game on the field is real, it is not perfect like your fantasy players, or the perfect players running around in your heads🙃

Concerning “ELITE” that is a word that is thrown around a lot…look up the definition…almost all the athletes that make it to the NFL is elite…they have documented records of ACHIEVEMENT…now if you say he is not EXCELLENT I will totally agree with you!

  40. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

    Bucnut2…
The fourth quarter, down by only one play…is garbage time…you are an athletic genius🤣

  41. LakeLand Says:

Case Keenum is the best backup QB in the NFL. He could start for some teams.

  42. Issic Haggins Says:

He can’t catch a lick and never has been able to, especially if he is moving and or his hands are above his head !!!
Those attempts to catch are par for the coarse for him and he is about as good in short yardage and should rearely see the field in 3 rd and short .

Other than that he looked pretty good

  43. Issic Haggins Says:

    Oh Ya , I forgot he’s a professional !!!

Above !!! The day I lost some faith in Koetter !!! HC is different than OC and Koetter is struggling with it a tad !!!

  44. NFLNut Says:

    ******************

    DoNUTS … you’re a loon.

If the TEAM doesn’t make the playoffs in JW’s first 5 years, that doesn’t mean “he” is the reason and needs to move elsewhere.

Dan Marino NEVER won a ring but played his entire career in Miami as he should have … Warren Moon, Dan Fouts, Philip Rivers, Donovan McNabb, etc NEVER even made it to a Super Bowl game but spent a great deal of time in the cities they started in and those fans should appreciate each of those guys.

Tony Romo and Matt Stafford are good examples of two recent guys to play their entire careers with the team that drafted them despite almost NEVER even winning a single playoff game … and they deserved to stay with their teams.

RINGS have almost NOTHING to do with “individual excellence” and EVERYTHING to do with TEAM excellence.

Tarkenton, Fouts, Moon, Marino, Kelly COMBINED never won a single ring … but no-name dudes like Trent Dilfer, Jeff Hostetler and Brad Johnson did … because the TEAM they played on was a great TEAM!

You want JW to win playoff games, conference titles and a ring or two … demand excellence from the front office and franchise as a whole!

    ******************************

  45. NFLNut Says:

McNabb made it to 1 SB … the infamous puke game where T.O. also played on a broken leg … almost beat Brady too …

  46. SteelStudBuc Says:

NFLNut… those were the painkiller days tho… do they still take painkillers? Concussions kinda made everyone forget about it…

  47. DoNUTS Says:

NFLNut the last time I checked…the QB is the most important person on the field for EVERY NFL team. I guess you favor the WR-RB or maybe the TE as the leader of the team. He is the CURRENT reason the team is not having any success along with Kicker issues. However, a bigger stat is ZERO for on 3rd down until late 3rd quarter in NE game tells me he is simply not playing well and struggling like a rookie. The fact remains the same. How many bone head plays do you need to see before you realize it will be the question. BTW, all the QBs you mentioned did not make it 10 years with a club except Marino- who PLAYED in a SB in year 1 hence my comment about how early success can buy long term. This is a different NFL than those times and teams simply are not as loyal.

  48. DoNUTS Says:

Mark the tape…if #3 does not get this team to the playoffs in his first 5 years he will be gone. Truth.

  49. Miguel Grande Says:

Doesn’t Jameis notice how short the Muscle Hamster is?

The passes he throws to him would be great if he was Kareem Abdul Martin.

I’ve also noticed that he thinks Desean is Shaquile Jackson.
