Bucs Defense Killing Jameis

October 23rd, 2017

Franchise-wrecking data.

Joe sees the trolls are out in force.

Already last night and this morning, folks are trying to nitpick a 23-year old quarterback with a bum throwing shoulder who threw for three touchdowns and damned near 400 yards on one of the NFL’s best defenses on the road, and gave the Bucs a touchdown lead late in the fourth quarter.

Not only is America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, not the problem, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times dug up numbers to demonstrate how Mike Smith’s defense, which did one helluva choking dog imitation yesterday, is killing Jameis and the Bucs.

@gregauman: Bucs have already lost twice this year when scoring 27+ points. They’ve done that more than twice in a season just once ever, in 1985. … Score 27+ points and lose? Bucs have done it four times in 22 games under Dirk Koetter, after doing so four times in 144 games from 2007-15.

Auman is right. This has happened four times with winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter at the helm… and Mike Smith running the defense.

So before you try to hang recent losses on Jameis, it might help to learn why the Bucs coughed up enough points to lose. Hate on Jameis all you want, he’s not an edge rusher or a cornerback or a safety. He doesn’t play defense.

Yes, the Bucs pass defense is the worst in the post-Chucky era.

Good morning!

Don’t matter how big your lead is when you got the jolly green ice cream man on your defense. Next week he might just start blocking for the offense.

How does gmc stop a RB on the goal line? He doesn’t.

How do you know gmc is the best DT in the league? You sniff glue.

What can hold a gap better, gmc or a Klondike bar? A Klondike bar in 200 degree heat.

You are a joke if you think Jameis is the problem. No doubt he can get better but he’s a baller and a leader. This league is tough on QB’s but at 23 he has already shown he can handle it. That is rare people.

Thank you Joes. Thank you. No one that knows football, or business, would be wanting to blame Jameis for the Bucs troubles and run Jameis out of town. He is very clearly improving and having his best season as a pro. He’s not perfect, but the easiest target for morons that probably have some other agenda for why they don’t like Jameis starting at QB for the Bucs.

Sapp was right – the Bucs have the dumbest fans in the NFL.

Yes……thank you……that’s what people here don’t realize, you gotta play a FULL 4 quarters of good offense and defense and this team and it’s players are not doing it consistently.

  13. JMarkBuc Says:

Is Derrick Brooks still the GM of the Tampa Bay Storm?

Elway got his GM practice in on an Arena team right? See where I am going?

For all those clamoring for Gruden, it is a double edged sword. Chucky would not have won SB without Monte Kiffin and the defense. To say he would come in and win now is a crapshoot.

    Here’s what we need:

Director of pro player personnel/ VP Football operations :Tony Dungy

    GM Derrick Brooks

    Dline coach. Warren Sapp

Then you can have Gruden as HC if you like, as long as there is somebody in the front office to keep his ego in check.

Oh and we need a whole new scouting department.
That’s not too much to ask for is it?

  14. Wausa Says:

It is sad that Jason Licht has given the Bucs such a poor defensive coaching staff along with such a sorry group of db’s and defensive line during a time that if the Bucs defense was average the Bucs would be in 1st place in the South and one of the favorite’s in the NFC.

  15. The Buc Realist Says:

Auman is wrong!!!!!! what in those 2 games “5” turnovers “helped” the defense!!!!!!

And in those “high scoring games” if you add up the points in the first 3 quarters of both its “19” !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The defense is struggling, but don’t act like the offense is carrying this team!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, that’s exactly what’s wrong…………our crappy defense made Tyrod Taylor look like Aaron Rogers or John Elway out there with 4th Qtr comebacks……shameful

  20. tmaxcon Says:

back to back weeks gmc led defenses have made struggling running backs and offenses look like offensive juggernauts…. how many coaches does gmc have to burn through before they finally rid themselves of the real problem.

  21. Lord Cornelius Says:

“The defense is struggling, but don’t act like the offense is carrying this team!!!!!!!”

Struggling is an understatement. They’re one of the worst defenses in the league right now.

Our offense really couldn’t have done much better of a job. Not only did we put up 27 points but we moved the ball basically every drive and dominated time of possession. The offense did everything needed to win the game. The defense was healthy / rested / should have absolutely no excuses at all. The 3 minute collapse was an absolute joke; and visually that long 3rd down run conversion was basically like watching 11 guys quit at once.

Mike Smith needs to turn this around ASAP. Win the next 2 and fix the defense and there is hope as we’d be at worst 1 game back from the division leader with tons of division games to play. But that’s it really. Can’t do that then kiss this season goodbye.

Terrible terrible loss. Between that and the FSU loss man it just feels like the gods are not with my teams lol

    Anthem

Not sure who you are agreeing with..me or Realist?

  23. JMarkBuc Says:

    Joe?

Post under moderation? Nothing offensive in it so not sure why

  24. Defense Rules Says:

Realist & Anthem … Most JBF commenters (and Joe too often) are more interested in searching for scapegoats than they are in trying to see ‘WHY’ certain things aren’t working. Bucs put their $$$ and draft picks into the offensive side of the house these past few years & managed to sign several FAs who are near the tail end of their careers to plug the resultant holes on defense. Past Pro-Bowl selections don’t mean diddly if you’re not performing well today, and several of them aren’t. I personally feel for Smitty because this is the least talented defense I can ever remember the Bucs putting on the field. Coaching turnstile hasn’t helped player development obviously, but good heavens, the talent just isn’t there to start with on some of these guys. I’ll say it again … this offense better be putting up 30-35 pts/game if we expect to win anything.

  25. WyomingBucsFan Says:

Do you guys not see the penetration McCoy gets? I mean STOP beating a dead horse here. The guy can’t do it all on his own. Look at the tape. Team’s run away from McCoy’ s penetration and the perimeter guys arnt stout enough to stop anyone coming right at them. I see the bad altitude and body language from McCoy, I get that. Look at it from McCoy’s perspective. He is leaving everything he has on the field and just gets ripped on social media. I would be calling out fans as well. Open your eyes people.

  26. ChanEpic Says:

To those blaming Jameis I think you need to gain a little perspective. Did Jameis make the Viking 3rd string QB look like Joe Montana? No. Did Jameis make Old Man Palmer and old Man Peterson look 20 years younger? No. Did Jameis allow 75 yards on 3 plays after gaining the lead in the 4th quarter? No. Does Jameis miss makeable Field Goals? No.
Does Jameis start slow? Yes. Does he over throw people a TON, HECK YES. But HE BRINGS HIS TEAM BACK. This Defense continues to crap the bed and RARELY if EVER saves a game for the offense. This team looks awful a lot but they have good players, the defensive scheme and, well tenacity is just not there. Not Jameis’ fault at all.

  27. DB55 Says:

    Realist

Good thing it’s a 4 qrt game huh?

  28. ndog Says:

Fellas in addition to the defense the running game is non-existent. Jameis and the passing game is the only thing good about this team right now. How many other QB’s can produce at the level Jameis is with no threat of a running game and a defense give up points like a kid eating candy at Halloween?

  29. Doctor Stroud Says:

“It was a nice paid vacation to Florida,” agreed the free agent veterans on the Bucs.

  30. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

If anyone on these posts mocks Jameis again… you should be forced to tattoo the words ignorant across your forehead. Jameis is historically good for a 23 year old QB.

    He’s 23!!!!!!!!!

Only ignorance wouldn’t understand how special it is to have a QB playing as well as he is with such a bright future at such a young age.

  31. Lamarcus Says:

Jw carries this team yesterday today and tomorrow. That’s about as real u can get

  32. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

Anyone who doesn’t realize McCoy is the only real decent thing going for the Bucs just does not understand football at all. A DT’s job is to eat up blockers and get push up the middle. McCoy draws two blockers every play and 3 blockers almost a quarter of the time. Watch the RB/FB of the other team when they stay in to pass protect – those guys NEVER go to the edge worried about a DE or LB, because they know their tackles and TE’s can EASILY handle them one on one – those extra blockers almost always stay in the middle to help against McCoy.

That’s how inept the rest of the defensive line is. And you guys blame McCoy because he isn’t a prick off the field. I get it – ignorance isn’t bliss, it’s angry – and ignorant fans only know how to relate to anger.

Leave Jameis and McCoy out of the crosshairs of your ignorant anger and realize the problem lies within most of the other 10 on defense and a certain offensive lineman who may be the worst LT in the league.

  33. JMarkBuc Says:

    Heck,

We should ask Tony if he would take 15 mil per year for three years to be our DC

  34. LongSeason Says:

Trade GMC. He must go. He has been a big reason for the Bucs failures on defense. He is the most over rated player on the roster and along with a boy named Suh, the most over rated players in the NFL. Both horrible against the run. And GMC has lost his ability to rush the passer.

  35. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

So what is the solution? As much as I like Koetters candid nature, and hard a$$ demeanor, Do we fire him and hire Matt Patricia or Jim Schwartz?

Whatever we do, it’s clear that despite last years 5 game strecth (which is seeming more and more like a fluke) Mike Smiths Soft AF Zone based scheme is just not getting it done consistently.

  36. Bucsfan107 Says:

He tried his best to put them in a deeper hole luckily djax saved it and our crap defense got stops those are his highlights from the first half 2 ints and 2 fumble we are so lucky the defense got stops in the first half or it wouldn’t have been so close but to pin all the blame on the defense winston and the offense did there part this loss was a team effort.

  37. DBS Says:

I did not know GMC was to be that far down field and cover the receiver. And of course that penalty was his fault too. Man he has a lot of field to cover!

  38. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Oooooh maybe Dan Quinn will get ousted in ATL and we can hire another cast-off head coach to be our new DC…

At this point I’m just so burnt out by seeing any and every QB/ RB have huge days basically only when they play us.

  39. Mike Johnson Says:

We are sorry Buc Fans. We can no longer take tickets for the..GRUDEN EXPRESS this week. We are full. We’ve made stops in Gainsville/Ocala/Orlando. Stay tuned for next weeks ticket sales. ALL ABOARD!!!!!

    @LC….

hold this staff accountable!!!!…this offense is worst than your favorite punching bag!!!!

and auman is right!!!!!….the defense sucks and the offense aint much better….

we are being lead by 2 incompetent coaches and the players know it….one is continuing to force our franchise QB to do things he’s not good at(yet) while the other is forcing a defensive scheme that is the worst thing this franchise has ever seen!!!!!!…..let that sink in for a minute….a defense worst than lovies….GTFOH!!!!!!GO BUCS!!!!

  41. 813bucboi Says:

    @MIKE JOHNSON

lovie just sent out a tweet that said:

I have the bait….greg has the rods….smitty grab the snacks…dirk grab the beer…meet us at the pier!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  42. Eric Says:

Any fair minded observer would conclude that Jameis is a great talent and one of the best up and coming QB’s in the league.

Many teams would LOVE to have him, and we are lucky he is on our team.

He is young and learning though, which is also exciting because the ceiling is very high.

Win this week and we pop right back in the race.

  43. Not there yet Says:

It’s time to get rid of everyone associated with losing in this town. Got rid of the front office but keep the losing players, you have to purge them all……koetter and Mike Smith are losers for the simple reason that every other team in the league has starters and backups these idiots are the only ones talking about having multiple starters based on the team they play and that’s completely idiotic.

Multiple starters on o line and at safety? No wonder the team can’t get in a groove. Lazy training camp equalled lazy effort on Sunday, don’t blame swaggy Baker for doing what he was allowed to do. Coaching staff needs to go and take GMC with them

  44. Lord Cornelius Says:

For some reason my post never posted…

Safe to say it was a long bashing of 813….

813 you’re a reactionary troll. Yes you hated the coaching hires when they happened but you changed your tune after the winning. YOu didn’t own up to how bad your 2016 season predictions played out. You didn’t own up to sh1t. You acted like you were all aboard with the staff. You didn’t hate on them all offseason or predict a collapse or anything.

You didn’t predict any of this.

You’re a reactionary troll and everyone with any sort of brainpower can see this obviously. You get off on the losing and are sad sad human being.

yes Mike Smith is doing a terrible job right now. Koetter not a great job but Winston is having his best season and is progressing like I’ve been saying all along. He’s doing his job in that regard. You’re hater filled eyes can’t see it but anyone who knows football knows Winston is easily having his best year; and has probably had 2 of his best games betweeen the Giants and this game – both against great pass defenses; and the stats even back it up if you can’t see. It’s not even f*cking close.

And stop saying i’m “hiding”. I spend Sundays with my family enjoying my life even after a loss and not on a message board being miserable j4cking off to the doom with other trolls. What a sad F8cking thing for you to engage in. It’s hilarious you’re obsessing about me on a weekend lol.

    So basically go f*ck yourself.

  45. BucEmUp Says:

Been saying this for how long now??????!!!!!!!!!!

Fire smith promote hayes and make the playoffs

  46. Bradentonbuc Says:

Lol the vitriol is so real on all sides. Joe, your comments section is a paradigm of American political culture.
I for one still believe that Mike Smith can change this around he just hasn’t yet. I appreciate him benching Hargreaves but like Joe has been grinding his axe this defense is missing key depth at CB.
As for TJ and Swaggy, if they want to take stuff to the media then I’d play them until the beg to come off the field, put on the tape and really compare. I can’t say I knew what the defensive play call was but I saw TJ get burned on TD where he drifted to far midfield.
This defense needs ANOTHER come to Jesus meeting. If or when we are eliminated from the playoffs, and there hasn’t been significant improvement then lets can Smith. Two years in a row is defense puts up stinkers in the first half of th season.

  47. Lamarcus Says:

Everything is not gmc fault. Gmc is who he is. Loser. Whoever decided to build this defense around gmc gets what they deserve. A soft d

  48. unbelievable Says:

Yea DB too bad we didn’t have a big lead in any of those games, we were actually playing catch up…

This defense is soft as sh!t but rather than call out the one and only guy who actually produces, maybe focus attention on the other 4-6 guys that do absolutely nothing? But hey, as you like to say “wtf do I know?”

  49. D-Rome Says:

I can’t believe I’m going to type the following:

Perhaps tmaxcon is right to a degree.

I’m not talking about GMC’s play on the field. He’s a great player and he’s one of the best in the NFL, no question about it. I really believe if he keeps up his play he’ll be in the Hall of Fame. GMC plays hard between the whistles and he’s an outstanding community guy.

The thing that I wonder about is the culture and accountability by GMC and LVD as captains. In all lines of work how one leads can shape the culture of a team, large group, or organization. I don’t know how they lead. I’m only wondering out loud. I don’t think GMC is a locker room cancer but some of the long time Bucs players around here have only known losing. GMC, Lavonte, Will Gholston, and a few others….all they’ve known is losing. New guys come in never having been exposed to a winning NFL locker room. They take cues from leaders that have known nothing but losing. It’s not really their faults. GMC and LVD can’t do it all, but it’s all they’ve known in the NFL.

  50. JabooBuc Says:

BucAnthem, not sure of what your point is. I am a Jameis fan and thus the username, much like your username indicates you are a fan of the Bucs. However, I have the ability to be objective. If Jameis was the reason this team was tanking, I would have no problem calling him out. However, i would argue he is one of only few bright spots i can point to on this team.

As i mentioned before, he needs to improve and he is already showing signs of growing vs last year. There are many on this site that can’t see the forest through the trees. He is still a very young pup in this league but already is working on his 3rd season. In my opinion, coaching and management is letting him down at this point by not putting the best product on the field. If it does not change quickly, someone with experience building a winner needs to come in and make something happen.

  51. SOEbuc Says:

Except for the LBs these defensive players are just not good. Trade every one of them and totally remake the defense after Gruden is able to bring in a badass defensive coordinator.

  52. Lamarcus Says:

    Amen d Rome.

It’s business not personal. Gmc and lvd and co can’t sustain success.

  53. Bobby M. Says:

I agree with trading GMC….but not because he’s a problem or bad player. The guy is the top tier at his position however he’s injury prone and on the back side of his career. He has solid value….cash it in. I highly doubt you can trade for a quality DE….but we might snag a legit LT or CB….or defensive coordinator.

  54. Defense Rules Says:

Can’t believe some of the ‘solutions’ (?) that I’ve been reading. On the defensive side, the most often voiced opinion seems to be akin to ‘They’re losers … Fire them all’. Sounds very much like the tongue-in-cheek solution to how folks would deal with personnel problems in the military … “Cancel all leaves until morale improves.’ Yup, that’s gonna work.

  55. Lamarcus Says:

    Defense rules

It sounds like “fire them all” to you but what we are doing doesn’t work. Gmc has stats to back him up but that doesn’t work either

But we are talented team. We can get on track. A loss is a loss. We will get back on track. I trust in Koetter. Koetter only right now

  56. Drew Says:

I feel this rumbling in stomach. S**t! just up-chuckaneered! This is the effect the Defense of this team has on me. Burp!

  57. AlteredEgo Says:

Dude there are no solutions proposed here lol. Just a bunch of losers who love to b1tch and moan and call it being “objective” while not offering any original thoughts or ideas or changes they think are needed.

Hell Winston may have had the best performance of the week and there was some dude in here talking about Marcus Mariota (who had a bad game by the way against a much worse defense). It’s absolute insanity. I know the internet is full of trolls but my god we almost 7-080% trollish assh0les on JBF

At least Tmax / certain other posters have always been consistent in their opinions even if negative. I can respect that even if I think their opinion may be a little delusional. They aren’t changing their narrative based on how good or bad the team is doing like 813 does

  59. IsrBuc Says:

This is so stupid. The bucs are a low scoring team. Always has been. We didnt lose many 27+ point games because we dont score 27+ points that often!!

  60. SOEbuc Says:

    @Defense Rules

I’m saying trade (not fire) them all because they’re old and can’t play well anymore. GMC, Ayers, Baker, Conte. Grimes and Ward aren’t returning anyways after this year. Also a lot of younger guys that aren’t great that can be traded for picks. I don’t care what people say, Licht is a bada$$ when it comes to the draft. I don’t know what the hell people are talking about getting rid of LVD. He has played two very good games since getting back and they want to get rid of him? No.

  61. SOEbuc Says:

Not saying we haven’t had a good defense in a while, but maybe it’s hard to determine or wait to develop a good Bucs defense after having one of the greatest of all time in 2002.

  62. DB55 Says:

Too bad LVD has never had any good players around him. Wasting his peak years.

Solution = let gmc line up at DE, he may surprise you but wtf do I know? That’s just crazy talk right?

  63. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

go watch gmc and many times he was just bull charging or slanting out of the play which may have been the call from smitty but he was slanting himelf out of the play and #62 duquaisse for the bills who is barley in the nfl was just killing mcoy all game…mccoy made a great late hit on bills qb after he completed a game killing pass where mathis has no clue how to play cover 3 as a depp corner but i digress…trade mccoy to the pats or raders or heck the indy colts and get some picks and get him out of here

  64. Ryan K Says:

AGAIN, JOEBUCSFAN misses the point !

Overall Jameis was not the main reason we lost. The main reason we lost was our D. But i find it INCREDIBLE, that ONCE AGAIN JOE writes more articles against the fans, then he does against a struggling QB on a struggling team. Go back and watch the film ! please ! Jameis misses Cameron Brate (who had his man beat) on third and goal.. that’s 4 points Jameis fails to get (we lost the game by 3). Was that the fans fault, Joe ? How about Jameis INT ? Did the help put points on the board ? NO ! That INT was actually the official end to any chance at scoring a TD in THE FIRST HALF ! Once again, the Offense (led by Koetter/Winston) start off SLOW SLOW SLOW ! Is that the fans fault ? How did Jameis do with the deep ball ? He missed just about every single deep ball except one (called back for penalty) Was the deep ball accuracy the fans fault? Every monday articles come pouring from Joebucsfan blaming the fans. FIRE THE FANS ! Here is a tweet from Joe during the game yesterday in response to a question asking how Jameis is playing:

“Despite what Koetter says, he’s regressed. Reduction in turnovers does not equate a good quarterback. Still way talented.”

HE HAS REGRESSED, in your own words ! Where are the articles on this ?
IF AMERICAS QB IS REGRESSING, that should call for more articles from Joe and less articles bitching about the fans.. SOB

  65. Lamarcus Says:

    Ryan

Jw is progressing. Jw is having a good year. He missed throws aaron Rogers misses also.

  66. LakeLand Says:

I guess the defense has been killing Jameis for 38 games! Give me a break.

Jameis is regressing?? is that a joke? He’s thrown for over 300 yards every game and even though he’s had a couple picks (every QB does), he’s defintly looking better than last year which was the main thing everyone was bitching about.

  68. pelbuc Says:

After Panthers hang 38 points next week on this vaunted “D”, DC smith should be fired before he hits the locker room. Trade everyone on defense except for LVD, Kwon and Beckwith. BTW, Fire the GM first!!

  69. Lamarcus Says:

    I agree pelbuc

Everyone must go and let’s get serious with our talent

  70. DB55 Says:

Ryan K – you’re fired! Now log off and go home. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

  71. Lamarcus Says:

It’s enough that certain buc players can’t sustain success but our fan can’t either? Jw carries this team. Ints or not. He surpass cam and Ryan right now too

  72. nick houllis Says:

maybe its time for Scott Reynolds of Pewter Report and his cronies to admit- They jumped the gun with the Fire Lovie garbage.

Ill say it right now.. Dirk Koetter isn’t responsible for the turn around, the increase in talent on offense is, and the drafting of a true leader who puts the whole team on his shoulders… Jameis Winston.

Most Bucs fans dont know the ORANGE Bucs weren’t always losers. They started 0-26 as a new franchise, and then only 16 games later, went 10-6 and birth in NFC Championship game where they were a TD and FG away from a Super Bowl vs Steelers. Those Bucs started a 3 out of 4 year playoff run with two postseasons ending in Dallas where many a seasons have. Whats this have to do with anything? That was the last time the OFFENSE had the real leader on the team. Dungy/Gruden Bucs had Sapp/Brooks/Nickerson, but thats defense. You have to score points to win games. Those Orange Bucs were led by a QB, Doug Williams, undisputed leader of the team. AFTER Doug Williams was allowed to leave to USFL, Bucs had BACK TO BACK 2-14 seasons, and 14 years of Double Digit Losing. All the coaches hired couldn’t change a thing, but get a born leader at QB and Bucs are in every game.
Dirk Koetter still doesn’t have game management down yet, and Defense can’t stop anyone when it has to. Sound Familiar? I hope everyone lets S.R. have it when the “Fire Koetter” post goes up over there.

  73. lurker Says:

    what a joke…

the offense and jameis are issues too.

the offense starts off too slow, usually always plays from behind, and their short time of possession and 3 and outs or turnovers keeps the defense on the field. the defense gets tired out.

the defense has its problems, too. poor tackling, minimal pressure, poor secondary play.

however, the turnovers by the offense didn’t help out the defense. especially that last fumble on a short field.

  74. BucTrooper Says:

2 years left on JW’s contract… he’s not going to want to stay if he’s playing Arena ball every Sunday.

  75. Defense Rules Says:

@SOEbuc … “I’m saying trade (not fire) them all because they’re old and can’t play well anymore.” So they should be traded because they’re not playing well anymore? And how many teams will be standing in line to trade for old players who aren’t playing well anymore? Oops, let me clarify that … besides the Bucs and Browns that is. Much better.

Lord C, I contend that there is a solution: You win if you score more points than the other guy. We’ve got to become the NEW New Orleans Saints and put a bunch of points on the board, win the turnover battle, and control the clock. Last year, remember the 5-game win streak we went on starting in Chicago? We controlled the time-of-possession in ALL 5 of those games AND we won the turnover battle in All 5. That despite the Bucs offense not scoring that many points in 3 of those 5 games (16 pts average) and adding some turnovers of their own. In the next 2 games that we lost after that, we had worse TOPs than our opponents (Cowboys & Saints) AND we lost the turnover battle (handily).

Go back and look at who we had playing on defense in the second half of last season. We’ve lost several of those guys for one reason or another (Jude, McDougald, Daryl Smith, Russell, Tandy) and the guys we’ve added to replace them aren’t playing as well as they did. Plus some of the guys who are still here aren’t playing nearly as well as they did last year (Ayers, Gholston, Spence & VHIII come to mind). Why? Wish I knew. But the combination has been devastating to this defense obviously. Offense needs to pile up the points, minimize turnovers & control the clock … and quickly.

  76. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    😠

…….kicking that same can down the road again

    😠

  77. 813bucboi Says:

They aren’t changing their narrative based on how good or bad the team is doing like 813 does

That’s a lie!!!…ive always been critical of this staff….they got canned in ATL for a reason….the reasons you’re witnessing now….you all butt hurt because player and fans have began to question if dirk and smitty are the right coaches for the job….as of right, that’s a big fat NO!!!!….man up and admit your mistakes!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  78. Frank Pillow Says:

The D’s performance was nothing short of gutless yesterday. Save LVD and his strip, there wasn’t much effort or passion out there. Making it all orbit around McCoy is too easy an out. Sure, he’s soft and a bit of a diva head-case, but there’s enough raw talent there that he’s still someone that has to be schemed against. I’m not excusing his glaring lack of production when it counts the most. Not at all. But just as much blame should be pinned on the GM for not figuring out an outside pass rush, depth at corner and/or banking on an outcast turd (Baker)…and the coaching staff for not developing VHIII

  79. Buc 76 Says:

Don’t understand the GMC bashing, the guy consistently gets pressure despite double teams, we haven’t had a decent DE since Simeon Rice, McCoy is the only consistent pass rusher, our DE’s are trash and have been for years.
I bet Hargreaves is into the blow, that would explain his immense drop off from last years performance.

  80. Matt Says:

It never fails…people who no nothing about football always blame the Quarterback. Jameis is good enough to win..Oline and D line are the problem. Oline can’t open any holes and our D line gets no pressure PERIOD!

  81. JabooBuc Says:

BTW, for the Jameis is regressing loons, his stats are up this year over last in every major category. In fact, it is the third straight year of progress.

What is noticibly different this year is the play of this defense. On that front, the best talent on this defense is home grown. Unfortunately, that illustrates the lack of investment that has been made through the draft on the DLine.

  82. 813bucboi Says:

I bet Hargreaves is into the blow, that would explain his immense drop off from last years performance.

that’s complete BS!!!!….he’s a good character kid and the son of a coach….his drop off in play is the lack of coaching….VHG is a press man CB….did you see what happened when he played at the LOS?….he had his best game as a buc….GO BUCS!!!!

  83. AlteredEgo Says:

JabooBuc…..don’t get into “stats”….the devil is in the details….incompletions …short..long…missed opportunities elite QB’s don’t let slip away…I wish I was but I am not seeing it….

  84. GhostofSchiano Says:

Guilty as charged in teasing TMAXCON but I am starting to think he is right.

As a “Team CAPTAIN” certain leadership responsibilities come with the title. GMC should be calling a defensive players only meeting, clear the air, get everyone’s head in the game, everyone on the same sheet of music.
Then he should meet with Mike Smith and get this thing on track. Has he done any of these things? Joe? Then I am thinking TMAXCON maybe right.

  85. vince picolo Says:

Those saying Jameis has regressed don’t know the first thing about football. The offense the Bucs have is totally on him, as they have no running game, basically none. The whole thing is on a 3rd year QB’s back. Ridiculous. Take at look at the teams with “thriving’ young qb’s including Houston, Dallas, Philadelphia, and LA. What do they have in common? All are in the top 10 in the NFL in rushing yards/game. The bucs are 31st.

This is not really on MIke Smith, either, to be honest. The Bucs have NO pass rush and lack quality corner play (they have 1). So, they can’t stop anybody. Smith can’t do it with mirrors.

The Bucs are getting better actually, but the off season needs are already clear. The need an quality pass rusher, if not two and they need a quality corner back, if not two. Lastly, they need a RB.

Jameis looked like the emerging star he is yesterday.

  86. JabooBuc Says:

Well said Vince. They are severely limited in certain areas.

  87. Lord Cornelius Says:

“Lord C, I contend that there is a solution: You win if you score more points than the other guy”

For sure man. But this game wasn’t a case of not putting up enough points imo; and we even controlled the clock somehow despite no run game and losing the turnover battle.

Bottom line is the Bills have no reason to be putting up 30 points; or winning a game in which they were down 7 with 3 mins left.

What a freaking nightmare lol I just want to fast fowrard to carolina. That was one of the worst losses we’ve had in recent memory…at least in terms of a game we needed to win that we should have won. We should be 3-3 right now but instead 813 / Mike Johnson are rejoicing in the streets

  88. AlteredEgo Says:

Coaches can only coach/game plan…. the young Fun’s Tera get to actually play the game..too bad they forgot how hard the game of football is…they sure look nice in taylored suits and fancy cars…. zero leadership….ZERO..tomorrow morning when the log onto the computer s the paycheck will be there

  89. 813bucboi Says:

    LC

aint nobody rejoicing!!!!….your just mad because your boy aint worth 2cent….simple as that!!!!…your upset not because of the game but because you and @realist are looking very stupid right now(and rightfully so)….i’ll rejoice once dirk and smitty join lovie at the pier!!! or if the bucs make the playoffs this year…which ever comes first….

now, like you said on to CAM and his band…i actually think we can/should/will this game….i think jameis is in the back of cam’s head and has him shook….we sweep them last year and winston went toe to toe with cam and got the win…we all know cam is mentally weak…when his body language is piss poor we have to keep him that way all game….he’ll fold….

the thing that scares me is our inability to stop the run….we all know that’s their strength so lets hope the new” coach my scheme” is cooking something up to make them 1 dimensional….force cam to beat us from the pocket…I think we match up well against them its just a matter of us(the bucs) showing up….we cant afford to come out flat….we have to score TD’s….lose this one and it maybe draft mode….and best believe dirk will be hookin up with lovie at the pier…..GO BUCS!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  90. 813bucboi Says:

    LOL….

    @REALIST….you can RUN!!!!!!…but you cant HIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  91. LakeLand Says:

The Bucs hold the 5th year option on Jason Licht. If the Glazers pick up his option, then they are the dumbest owners in all sports.

  92. Bob in Valrico Says:

Yes the defense is not playing that well. Grimes didn”t play up to his normal
level.Kwan was missing a lot of tackles. .No DB should be crying about playing
time with their performance. The defensive alignments often led to big plays in the running game. There is a lack a lack of talent on this side of the ball .
That said Defense rules is right , we need to score more point offensively and the time to start is the beginning of the game. Jameis needs to play 60 minutes like he did in the second half. I saw a fumble and an INT on Jameis that stalled drives.
DJax also picked an INT from a defender. HE played well and helped in the short and intermediate game.Kudos to Jameis for his two deep passes to OJ and Djax eventhough it got called back. Mike Evans also prevented another turnover with his hit on the defender that caused him to drop an easy INT.
This is an area Jameis needs to work on as the defense as a unit is not
playing up to expectations. Frankly I don’t see enough good personnel on the field to change things.
So Offense has to carry the load.Start fast and step on their throats like New Orleans had to do with the absence of a defense. We are going to need a very good draft to fix this defense in my opinion.

  93. JabooBuc Says:

Bob in Valrico, there’s always 2 sides to a story. DJax better have fought for that ball because he ran a half assed route. Watch it again. He was lazy coming out of his break and the DB jumped it. You don’t even really need to watch the tape. All you need to ask yourself is when would anyone be able to jump a route by DJax if he runs all out?

  94. Bob in Valrico Says:

Be happy to watch the play again ,but one thing I have seen too much is Jameis giving the defender a better chance to catch the ball than the receiver. Mike Evans basically said as much when asked to compare Jameis to Fitzgerald . Evans basically said its nice to have continuity but Fitz was putting the ball where only the receiver could catch it. I get that Jameis is young ,but he has to play more like his second half yesterday which was pretty stellar.Slow starts and turnovers
are are a recipe for disaster with this defense. So Jameis and the offense have to carry the load. They got the weapons, defense didn’t.

  95. Clw JB Says:

This D is pathetic, can tackle, cover, or rush – besides that we are 👌

Can anything be more obvious- the players don’t buy the system and they don’t play all out – only 1 drive we were aggressive – 3 n out after we scored- next drive right back to the SOS

Zone or man we just don’t attack the ball, we chase and flail like a fish out of water

Like our past his prime DC…a fish out of water in 2017

  96. Issic Haggins Says:

The team with the better running game wins 75 percent plus of all NFL Games .
Bucs are I believe 0-7 when Winston throws for 350 plus

Doug just hesitates and misses really simple holes, he is as bad as it gets once he hesitates behind the line and he does it allot. I may be wrong but I’m pretty certain that he leads the NFL in TFL’s by a long shot on a per carry basis over the last two years. How the staff doesn’t realize that this is an absolute killer after two years of it is just Crazy.

It took 6 weeks for professional coaches that are supposed to be NFL caliber to make a Hardgraves adjustment , how long until they give Barber a shot , I have seen enough of him that I am very very confident he will avg substantially more that Martin and Rogers but how can these professionals not see it ?? Or Or do they and it’s just pure professional stubborness, Barber is no ifs ands or buts better than Martin and Rogers running the ball .Koetter Adjust your offense for Barber , you have to !!! 20 rushes 46 yards , Seriously this is more the norm for Martin !!! Schiano beat the guy to death early is his career , it’s time for Barber to get a shot !!

  97. Bob in Valrico Says:

    @Jaboo
Watched the play again, Djax was well covered, Defender had position on him .
In my view you can’t lock in a receiver with that kind of coverage.Jameis put the ball
into the defenders hands.Look for somebody else with a better chance at a completion.

  98. lurker Says:

nice accuracy carson on the long bomb after getting sacked.

  99. lurker Says:

perhaps winston i trying to do too much. he is trying to force balls where he shouldn’t, is inaccurate downfield which may be from rushing the throws.

  100. daveman Says:

Just run a 3-4 and you don’t have to depend on DL to beat blockers to get pass rush. Do it with scheme and LB blitz packages. We have way more talent at LB than DL anyway. Many teams don’t even use bowling ball NTs in 3-4s anymore. McCoy could fill that spot just as well.

  101. PRBucFan Says:

Winston and the offense need to worry about producing TD’s in the first have of games.

  102. PRBucFan Says:
