Remember What Greg Schiano Said?

September 10th, 2017

Proud.

One month ago, a certain defensive coordinator of a monster college football program went on national TV and declared his defensive line is the best he has ever been around, including during his Bucs days.

The man’s name? Greg Schiano.

The former Bucs commander was on the Big Ten Network during the outfit’s annual training camp tour set and declared his defensive line at Ohio State the best he ever coached. When prodded that he also coached in the NFL (amid snickering from the BTN hosts), Schiano didn’t blink, saying:

“That’s not a joke,” Schiano said. “Now we had a great player in Tampa by the name of ‘Gerald McCoy’ — tremendous player. But that was one guy.”

Well, this quote caught a lot of folks’ attention including one Gerald McCoy. And boy, does GMC, the Bucs stud defensive tackle, remember it. This morning, GMC did some quality trolling.

You see, GMC is a proud product of the University of Oklahoma. GMC may be more proud of his school than America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, is of Florida State. And that’s saying a lot.

So last night, in a clash of college football titans, Oklahoma traveled to Columbus, Ohio, in an early-season showdown with the Ohio State University. Yeah, the same Buckeyes team whose defense is coached by Schiano.

And the Sooners upset Ohio State  — worked them over — and Oklahoma owned the battle of the line of scrimmage on offense. Yup, against the same defensive front line Schiano declared the best he’s ever coached.

GMC, of course, was watching the game and he couldn’t help but take to Twitter to gloat.

@Geraldini93: Didn’t a coach recently say this Ohio State D-line was the best they’ve ever been around? I wonder what that makes this OU O-line!?!

And, yes, the Sooners’ offensive line is damned good, too. GMC must be proud because, using Schiano’s line of thinking, the current Oklahoma offensive line might be able to hang with GMC, even though GMC is a perennial Pro Bowler. (No, Joe doesn’t believe that for a second.)

    Love it. Schiano’s an idiot.

  2. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

That also could be a veiled shot at the former Bucs GM of that era for stocking the D line with not a lot of quality outside of McCoy and one year they had Bennett. Schiano gave props to McCoy, so I’m not sure why he felt the need to act a bit snarky in his trolling, but that’s certainly his prerogative.

Career losers and players who quit on coaches have no business trolling anyone.

This is why Schiano continues to hate on Michael Bennett.

“Did Michael Bennett Publicly Second Guess Greg Schiano?”

Michael Bennett is perhaps THE BEST overall DE/DT in the NFL.

For the past 4 seasons, he has been a BEAST.

GMC and Michael Bennett should have played their entire career together.

    But Schiano is a DICTATOR.

    @joe

Stop saying Schiano and Dom let Michael go “for no reason.”

Schiano let him walk because Michael questioned him publicly!!!

After the Redskins game when RGIII beat us.

“There had to have been tons of anger in the Bucs locker room. That anger led to this quote from defensive end Michael Bennett, who was talking about a 15-yard run from Robert Griffin III on the final drive of the game.

“You run a blitz and it was just wide open,” Bennett said in a Tampa Bay Times article. “I knew myself. I was like, ‘I don’t know if I should run this play or not, but I did my job.’ I knew he was going to get outside. That’s what he does. The edge was too short. The whole defensive line slanted.”

Bennett did the right thing by running the play and doing his job. He made an egregious error by bringing it to the attention of the media that he was unhappy with the play calling.

With a new head coach in a regime that hasn’t yet taken flight, with a new head coach that’s shown he’s willing to ship off talent if it’s not the right fit for the team, why say anything negative in an open forum?

That move by Bennett made less sense than Schiano’s blitz call that forced the comments in the first place.”

The captain of moronic trolls emerges. How many times does someone need to post a slew if game-changing plays our arguably best defensive player has made before you stop spewing that line? In summary, your acts are the classic indicators of a moron. Go Bucs!

@tmax: You’re the only clown around here.
Well, not really, but you’re in a category all your own.

You are the worst poster in JBF history, (and there have been TONS of dummies here over the years), because you are too obtuse (or obstinate) to understand the simple truth: GMC is a player that other teams have to gameplan for, and as a result he makes the team better. It’s been that way since the beginning, and you can’t change that fact, no matter how deluded you are.

    You are a cancer.
I feel sorry for the people who have to interact with you face-to-face.

So there is a good reason the Bucs let Michael Bennett go? Do tell.

  14. DB55 Says:

Fun fact: Adrian Clayborn has an NFC championship ring and GMC has a 82k twitter followers. I’d say GMC is winning. Lol.

    read the article!

They let him go because he questioned authority!

He was let go for questioning Schiano after the loss to the Redskins!!

    Schiano never forgot that!

  16. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Funny how you take some things coaches say super seriously and let other things go like they don’t mean a thing. This statement by Schiano is one you should let go. He’s just promoting his boys. Nothing else. The only thing statements like that do is give people room to pick on him when it doesn’t work out. Dumb thing to say, but equally as dumb to harp on it.

Joe has been told by someone rather high up the Bucs food chain a far different story.
