Punt Return Job A Mystery

September 20th, 2017

Unsure

So who is the Buccaneers’ punt returner?

It sure looks like Adam Humphries lost his job to Bernard Reedy.

The Bucs rookie, who has bounced around practice squads since 2014, fielded punts for Tampa Bay against the Bears on Sunday.

But is it his job? Joe asked Humphries about that today.

Humphries told Joe that Reedy took most of the punt return work in preseason and did a great job but who is the No. 1 guy is unknown.

“All I can do is be ready,” Humphries said.

Reedy was solid in preseason and against the Bears. Humphries was solid to good all last year, averaging 9.9 yards per return, one-tenth of a yard shy of the goal the team set for him.

Returning is why Reedy is a Buccaneer. He has more big play capability than Humphries and will likely reward coach’s decision to keep him with a a few long returns this year – hopefully a TD or 2.

Congrats Bernard! You made it. You hold an important starting position on an NFL team. Now show us all WHY you belong on this Championship caliber team. Break a big run vs the Vikings and give the announcer a chance to say – “There goes Speedy Reedy…”

    I’m only a little confused.

How is he a rookie but he’s been on practice squads since 2014?

BREAKING NEWS!!!! The Lions have signed George Johnson…

Let Reedy return. Why expose your higher depth chart receiver to the injury risk?

  5. Defense Rules Says:

Personally would rather see Reedy returning punts, until he screws one up that is. Tends to be a rather dangerous job, and Humphries is listed as out #3 receiver. Against the Bears Reedy returned 1 punt … for 17 yds (very nice job I thought). In terms of snaps, Humphries was on the field for 41 of our 71 offensive snaps (and 0 ST snaps), while Reedy was on the field for 7 offensive snaps (plus 5 ST snaps). Maybe Dirk Koetter & Nate Kaczor (ST coach) are seeing a bigger picture than most of us fans (and media) do?

If they wanna spring one of these things Reedy has to be the guy. I see a slightly quicker start stop acceleration with him. The sttuff needed to spring returns.

  7. DB55 Says:

Bobo had the best returns this year and VH3 had the best returns last year.
