“I Laugh. I Laugh.”

September 6th, 2017

Dirk Koetter is filled with laughter

Man, Dirk Koetter must have been hysterical late last night studying all the Bucs fans on Twitter ripping former Bucs running back Jeremy McNichols.

Actually, all August long, Koetter sure was doubled over laughing after hearing and reading all the commentary from Hard Knocks experts claiming to understand/know the habits and mindsets of Bobo Wilson, DeSean Jackson, Chris Baker and many more.

Today, Joe asked Koetter how he felt he was presented on the HBO reality series. Koetter made sure to let the world know they don’t know as much as they think they do after watching the five-episode feature.

Joe: Coach, now that Hard Knocks is over. Did you like the way you were portrayed? (Koetter laughs) Did fans get a good picture of you?

Dirk Koetter: Now I can really show you how I am now that Hard Knocks is gone. (Tongue-in-cheek). As I said all along, I like the show Hard Knocks, I wish I wasn’t in it. Because everybody that’s portrayed in Hard Knocks, that’s just a sliver of what they really are. Ok, when someone on the outside says their opinion of anybody because they watched four episodes of Hard Knocks, I laugh. I laugh. Because how do they know? How do they know? Now, do I think some of those people that they portrayed in that show, that they portrayed them correctly? Yeah. There’s other people that I think they portrayed them incorrectly. And I’ll keep that opinion to myself on who those are. However I’m viewed, I mean. That’s how I’m viewed.”

Joe: Did you have a favorite moment in the show?

Coach: (Laughs) I probably shouldn’t say what it is. (Laughs and motions to Bucs media chief who is shaking his head). Let’s just say it happened last night.

Great stuff there by candid Koetter.

Joe suspects Koetter’s favorite moment was general manager Jason Licht expressing his deep, dark disdain for Skip Bayless. Joe would bet 10 bucks on that. What a gem that was last night.

Yes, Coach, fans and Joe believe they learned a chunk about various Bucs players, coaches and officials after five episodes of Hard Knocks. We can’t help ourselves. We obsess about our team and read between the lines as often as possible.

That written, Hard Knocks offers just a “sliver” of reality, as Koetter called it. And so much of the show is distorted. But Joe sure hopes the Bucs find a way to be featured again next year.

It’s a reality show. It’s about as honest as MSNC, CNN, FOX or the Batchelor. I would rather watch re-runs of a hemorrhoid operation.

  2. SB Says:

Gonna hunker down and watch Hard Knocks tonight. Prepping to mobilize to Fla if necessary.

  3. Rod Munch Says:

I enjoyed his episode last night but heard from non-Bucs fans they didn’t like it. I didn’t see prior seasons so I don’t know the vibe of the cut show but I thought it was interesting even if I knew the outcome. Licht was way too entertained by Siri – theyblet that drag on for way too long – but otherwise it was good.

  4. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Say it ain’t so Joe!!!

I loved the show as much as anybody but isn’t it true SB teams or is it all playoff teams are ineligible? Or is it just teams with first year coaches.

  5. DBS Says:

Didn’t pay for it and never watched a minute of it. Knew it was a joke to begin with.

  6. Rod Munch Says:

DBS – Kewl story brah, thanks for sharing.

  7. The Buc Realist Says:

The “Real” Fans and Coaches are so glad that the distraction is officially over!!!!!

The Best part of this is that they will not be made to do it again for a very long time!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And before Joe says that all are saying they “enjoyed doing it” Its called being gracious and they are relieved its over!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. unbelievable Says:

I would guess we probably got a pretty accurate portrayal of GMC, Jameis, and Bobo Wilson. (Probably Swaggy too)

But who knows? It was definitely entertaining, but I found almost 30 min of each episode to be pretty boring. Of course I expected this from having watched previous seasons, so not a big deal. After all it’s still better than 95% of programming on TV.

  9. DB55 Says:

The only thing people give a sh1t about in this league is wins. Let’s see how that goes.

  10. Rossta Says:

I didn’t think it was that bad. As the gladiator would have said, where you entertained!

Sorry to be disagreeable and I’ll take your point in as far as the “most important” factor being wins…nobody cares about a losers…I think there’s a lot more to it than just that.

EG…put the Bucs and my prejudice aside….I root for Aaron Rodgers…I loathe Tom Brady….I love the Rooney family in Pittsburgh…Dan Snyder and Jerry Jones disgust me….all are winners and successful…well except for Snyder…but I’m “entertained” totally differently by them. Personality, character and class does impact our perceptions. At the end of the day sports is nothing more than entertainment…certainly I would not disagree with you that winning is the key component but far from the only factor. Just bein’ disagreeable eh? LMAO

Man did they fall in love with Boise McSnoop….what a slacker…

  14. Dave Says:

The show was great. But like anyone you see in the movies or on TV or sports stars in other outlets or musicians…. it is always just a sliver of who they really are. I don’t understand why people say I love this person I hate this person, you don’t know them.

Great show though, not the “reality” crap one fan suggested.

  15. SB Says:

Guys I hope all of you are properly prepared for Irma. A case of Natty Ice and a couple candles won’t be enough for this one I think.

  16. DEFF JEFF Says:

for all you idiots on here posting how too cool you are for not watching/caring/enjoying hard knocks, go crawl back into your fair weather holes you live in. This was without a doubt the greatest 5 hours of in depth behind the scenes coverage in buccaneers history. But hey, you’re pretty cool

  17. Buc50 Says:

I loved watching the show…best part by far was Licht clowning Skip Bayless. I bet he’s not the only GM or Coach that feels that way.

  18. AlteredEgo Says:

Hopefully Amazon’s “All or nothing ” continues to follow the Bucs this season.

  20. BuccaneEric75 Says:

These are the only 5 episodes of hard knocks I’ve ever watched. I can’t comment on previous seasons, but I think they did a great job portraying our stars and coaches and I was very pleased with the show. I would have liked to see more players featured but this show is for NFL fans, not just Bucs fans. They have to pick the best players/personalities to attract a wide audience. The only real complaint I’ve got is that I wished we got to see more Dirk/Winston/Licht/Coaches meetings. They were sprinkled through the series, but I’d watch 5 hours of that before anything. I’ll give the show an “A”. A+ if we had more in the meeting rooms.

    Right on! DEFF JEFF

  22. tmaxcon Says:

only thing that matters is win loss record all the bs and feel good stories are for mentally weak wanna be fans. wins are the only thing that matters and this team has not won a meaningful game in 15 years pretty hard to be an optimist when reality sets in.

  23. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Tmax

Bro you get to speak for yourself not all of us. Your opinion is just that…your opinion. You’re not Pharaoh…so let it be written so let it be said.

There is no way I would ever let a negative nellie like you tell me how to feel or what to think.

Stop wasting your time! Insults like weak minded simply come across as “projection”…do you even know what that means?

  24. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Tmax, well, start being an optimist, baby! Let’s go! Don’t worry about the past. This season has nothing to do with the preceding years. Get on board or be left behind. Hop on, baby!

  25. DB55 Says:

    SPBF

That’s a direct quote from Koetter. Lol, but by all means disagree all you want I still luv you.

I’m keeping my opinions to myself. We’ll see what happens on the field.

  26. Capt.Tim Says:

    Right on Deff Jeff.
This place is such a collection of Dumbas* Di*ks.
I thought the show wss s great insight into the inner workings of how the Buc Hierarchy works together.
Even players dont get that insight.

Jameis came across as a fierce competitor snd Great Teammate.
    Check
Mike Evans came across as a player looking to seperate himself from the pack, and prove he is an elite talent
    Check
McCoy came across as a nice guy, the undisputed leader of the defense, and an absolute dominant talent.
    Check
    Kwon as a savage Warrior
    Check
    Baker as a funny guy,
    Check
Desean Jackson looking to win Jameis confidence, and prove he is an elite talent also- he isnt lost in Evans shadow
    Check.

It wasgreat getting a look into the players personal life, and the struggles of Undrafted rookies to make the team( congrats Antony Auclair!)

It was probably a once in a lifetime behind the scenes llook at our team.
    I loved it

If all that matters is wins, then quit posting here, and Go Bl*w the Patriots.

  27. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Capt Tim, I agree with everything you said except wins. If this team goes 3-13 I think we look at this “behind the scenes look” in a different light. If we make the playoffs, this was great insight. If we totally bomb, we were all fooled. We need to separate the wins on the field compared to the personal stories to take this show for what it is.

  28. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I have to admit, I love Dirk and the way he keeps it real with the players he cuts. I love Jason Licht, but am I the only one who thought he came off as dorky/doofy. If I didn’t know he was the GM, I never would have guessed.

  29. DB55 Says:

You people are just funny. The FL education system has failed you all.

  30. Tbbucs3 Says:

Told y’all once Mcnichols was drafted that he wouldn’t make the team. The hype on here for a 4th round RB was totally unrealistic and undeserved. Same with CFL long shot Derrell Walker who was being talked up on here as the next NFL great. Just because it sounds good on paper doesn’t mean it will work, it’s the NFL not flag football.
