5 Days Off

September 6th, 2017

Anxious

After eight months of agony waiting for opening day, Bucs fans took a collective kick in the groin yesterday. The Bucs got a bye week to open the season.

But it’s not that simple.

Not only were the Bucs stripped of the opener they targeted for months, they were forced by the NFL to take a mandatory four days off (bye week rules). And that turns into five days off because players have a mandatory day off next week, which will be served on Monday.

The Bucs, dancing between raindrops day, had a good practice session with no extra work put in, Dirk Koetter told Joe.

But that was the end of the line. After practice, many players were scrambling to make the most of their surprise vacation time.  Most players, though, will end up sitting on the couch watching football waiting to come back to the office on Tuesday.

Rookie Kendell Beckwith was totally amped for his NFL debut, with loads of family and friends planning to attend the Bucs-Dolphins game in Miami. Instead, Beckwith told Joe, he’ll just go home to Louisiana and visit and try to patiently wait to make his mark on the league.

The five days off will be great for the handful of dinged up Bucs. But there are too many players getting time off when they don’t need it.

It’s an interesting dynamic that will challenge the coaching skill of Dirk Koetter when the players return.

There are no excuses for the Bucs not to be ready to play a week from Sunday, but that doesn’t take away from the challenge Koetter has to manage this situation just right.

    Sucks. Hard!
The ONLY good thing about this, Is T j Ward our nee De will have an extra 5 days with the playbook.
Which is good- safety is a really complicated position in Mike Smiths defense.

    But mostly it sucks

  3. Capt.Tim Says:

    And our new DE *

  5. NOSBOS Says:

I hope this forces Koetter to keep his foot on the gas this season. If overwhelm opponents thru 3 quarters we can rest starters in the 4th.

  6. NOSBOS Says:

    We have the talent.

Some of you say I am whining when I say the NFL should have had the game played sooner. Why not have 2 Thursday games if necessary and have the Bucs-Fins game start before the Chiefs-Patsys. I think the importance of the bye week, particularly in Week 11 when you know several guys are going to be banged up, is easy to downplay before the season starts. In reality, I believe the last 2 preseason games should be scrapped and all teams should be given at least 2 byes and preferably another game gets added. The NFLPA would likely be opposed to the extra game however.

  8. DB55 Says:

Cmurda has a clue per usual.

  9. NOSBOS Says:

D@$!,just found out this has happened to the fins before in 1992. Week1 moved,16 str8 games. They finished in the afc championship game. Imagine that. It really isn’t the end of the football world after all.

  10. Eric Says:

    Overwhelm opponents then rest.

    My aren’t we hyped up.

Let’s just get some wins. Most of our games will be decided by a couple of plays either way.

    Like a week from Sunday.

  11. NOSBOS Says:

We clearly se things differently. I can’t help y’all slow to this ish. You don’t add a pro bowl WR and pro bowl DB to your team and just be average dude.

  12. NOSBOS Says:

Raise your weak expectations. broncos added peyton and started beatin people @$$. hawks draft wilson, year three they went 12 and 4 beatin people @$$. I suppose that type thing only happens with other teams huh. Please.

  13. NOSBOS Says:

No one was prepared for (with maybe the exception of Bucs)The Greatest Show on Turf 99 rams. It didn’t take five or six years. They pieced together in 99 and immediately began beatin people @$$.

  14. JameisDungy Says:

At least Dirk gets another week to figure out his RZ play calling.

I will collect My Royalties Later :-p

  16. Eric Says:

In our wildest dreams we aren’t near the greatest show on turf.

And I’m one of the biggest Jameis fans on here.

I hope the players get the rest they need to recover from training camp. Although, I do wonder how they will make it through a season where the hitting is multiple times worse than camp. If they are ‘dinged’ now, what will they be like after a few games?

  18. Dave Says:

Practicing towards opening day for a month and then suddenly having a week off sucks. Loss of rhythm. But on the bright side dinged up guys can get healthy
