GMC meetup halted.

As Joe noted previously, stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy pulled a Bill Sheridan on Monday and invited haters to meet him at One Buc Palace.

Tuesday, the Bucs, in so many words, said don’t even think about it.

Sheridan, the former Bucs defensive coordinator for then-Bucs commander Greg Schiano, in response to vocal fans screaming about his defense, offered fans an opportunity to meet him at One Buc Palace when he arrived to work at 5:20 a.m. and Sheridan would offer the fans free Cokes as he broke down tape with them.

It’s was purely a d!ck move by Sheridan. The next day, sure enough, Bucs fans were waiting for him as he arrived to One Buc Palace. Rather than talking to the fans, Sheridan rolled his driver’s side window down just low enough so he could wave at the fans with a smirk on his face as he drove into the facility’s parking lot.

Yesterday, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reported that Bucs security will not allow any GMC haters past the iron gates of One Buc Palace.

Then, with Sheridan as now with GMC, Joe thinks the Bucs are really dropping the ball here on a fantastic marketing opportunity.

If fans — in this case, GMC haters — are that passionate to blow off work or get up before the crack of dawn to show up at One Buc Palace, that tells Joe these are hardcore fans, likely fans that buy plenty of gear if not season tickets. And if they don’t buy tickets, they likely are interested in tickets.

The Bucs could set up an educational forum where an assistant, say eloquent Jay Hayes, GMC’s line coach, and GMC could have the fans come into the auditorium and Hayes could break down coaches tape with the fans to demonstrate why they are dead wrong in claiming GMC is a stiff. Host a brief question-and-answer session. It could all be done in an hour.

And GMC is man enough and a good guy enough that just talking to some of these fans very well could win them over with his intelligence and tape-documented play.

Companies big and small always boast of the importance of consumer engagement. Like the time with Sheridan, setting something up with GMC would be a perfect chance for fan engagement and community outreach.

The educational forum makes too much sense Joe. I believehe Bucs have the clinics where they have the lady fans show up and get to do some interactive stuff but that’s about it…. Now if you told the Glazer boys that they could charge so much coin a head and turn a nice profit, well that might get their attention but to simply use it for PR and marketing as well as cast One Buc in a favorable light is asking a bit too much; kind of like expecting the Bucs not to start 0-4 or 1-3 every year….. Hoping for 2-1 but have to admit I took the Giants in one of my suicide pools (used Seattle, Green Bay and Pitt already); heck all the negativity from at least one of the Joe’s and 80% of the posters has me thinking the Bucs will find a way to lose to NY and it kind of fits with what we see every season; I expect a game like the ram game last year with someone besides Aguoyo being the goat….

    good call Joe

  3. Dreambig Says:

And you would do that why? GMC has been to 5 probowls had has a rep league wide as being one of the best in the game. I would rather he spend time reviewing film of the Giants than waste his time on a few malcontents that despite all evidence want to cling to their fanatical beliefs. Talk about opening Pandora’s box! Should we have fan milk and cookie sessions for ever player we dislike?

  4. bucster Says:

Funny that Gerald said people talk tough hiding behind a keyboard, yet he talks tough hiding behind a secured fortress.

  5. tnew Says:

Dream… we all would rather him do that. Joe isn’t suggesting make this a regular event, but when players take to social media and say things like he did, diffuse the situation by having a brief little session. I would love to have Tmax in the film room with GMC. That would be ppv if Joe could livestream it.

Interesting concept Joe.. lets take it a step farther. Remember in Seattle when Bugle broke down Sweezy film. That would be a fun weekly thing for the Bucs. Coaches could alternate who had which week. Not prepare too much just do a seat of the pants type of thing. NFL teams really need to work on being relatable to their hard core fans right now.

  6. RayJameisStadium Says:

Its all about complaining. All that is meaningless to them. You know like the “den of depression.” An addict does not want to be fix.

The guy is a pro-bowler and earned it! He needs some “Ayers” in him. But without him this defense will be worse than Lovie’s defense.

I still think when McCoy is healthy Baker’s presence will help him be what the complainers want him to be. His dominance will increase like in the Chicago game. Hopefully his ankle is good or all hell might break loose.

  7. Bucnjim Says:

Interesting to find out if anyone showed.

  8. firethecannons Says:

    Heh Tampax/maxipad/t-max:
no doubt you were counting on a face to face with GMC, certainly you were going to get him straightened out. You lost your opportunity buddy.

  9. darin Says:

Gmc should have never acknowledged them. All they want is attention. Someone over at one buc please give gmc a quick behavior lesson. All these things are typed because of peoples fear and insecurity. If they could play your position better gmc, they would. If they were happy people theyd have better things to do. Leave them alone to sink slowly into anonymity. Go Bucs

  10. Pickgrin Says:

Yea – like the coaches don’t have more important things to do this morning than explain the obvious to irrational GMC haters… LOL

Hayes, Dufner and Smith better be spending every waking moment over the next 100 hours figuring out some way, some how to pressure Eli and get him off his spot.

  11. Bucnjim Says:

When does the weekly injury report come out?

  12. The graham tram Says:

The hate on here is ridiculous. People literally count down until a troll shows up on all GMC articles.

Joe laid down the law on commenters who harassed Lee nonstop about Dalvin. People got the message. I don’t get why they let the baseless GMC hating go on. The Joe”s obviously can’t control twitter, but why not make this a forum about football? If you call out GMC, have a football related point.

  13. Buc believer Says:

Anyone who can read and write or even breath MUST know that GMC knew that fans would not get thru security. That is why he issued the challenge in the first place. He KNEW he wouldn’t have to meet anyone! Cmon people surely you can’t be that stupid.

  14. LJS4th Says:

The Bucs don’t do anything unless it puts money in their pockets! They really don’t care about the fans as much as they care about the money they can make from them.

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Not to worry, Pablo always allows access…..Pablo doesn’t have disgruntled fans because Pablo is a very nice man. Pablo once knelt for Guantanamara….but win Pablo knelt his elongated arc got in the way and….well, it really hurt. Pablo won’t do that again”

  16. BurgDweller Says:

They possibly can’t have the peasants interacting with the royalty inside their own castle.

  17. Bob in Valrico Says:

You don’t have to read or write to know that having any meeting
with unhappy Bucs fans that could become confrontational is bad PR.

  18. James Walker Says:

Don’t they have better things to do than to debate haters?

  19. AlteredEgo Says:

Just what are these knuckleheads protesting ?………

  20. Joe Says:

    tnew gets it.

  21. 98bucsfan Says:

Is there any word on how healthy McCoy is this week?

  22. Patrick in VA Says:

Joe, I think this is a great idea, honestly. Not just to address what was stirred up by GMC’s comments, but also just to get the fans more dialed in to the team. I say that as someone who will likely never be able to benefit from actually doing it, but the idea of being able to go in, even during the off season, sounds like something that would be a fantastic opportunity for fans to see how the pros do that sort of breakdown.

With the amount of access that fans have now with all 22 film, teaching fans (especially young ones) could be a great way to not only get the fans tied more tightly to the team, but also use it as a way to suss out potential talent among fans with an aptitude for scouting who might not otherwise have an avenue for being noticed by team officials.

  23. Buc50 Says:

I’d like to see the fan injury report for the clowns that actually would try to face GMC. Bucs Security saved these clowns a trip across the street to St Josephs.

  24. Yungry Says:

McCoy’s privilege is showing. Must be nice to have free education at OU while the rest of us slave away at work all day. Players should try to understand the fan’s struggles.

  25. LakeLandBuc Says:

GMC definitely is no Warren Sapp. Sapp would have told the fans to put a jersey on, and meet him on the corner of Dale Mabry and MLK.

  26. tmaxcon Says:

gmc is just a career loser who will be nothing more than a footnote in bucs history. he has never won a meaningful game in his career and the defenses he has led have come out flat and unmotivated far more than they have played well. those are the facts the record proves that. the rest is just meaningless bs… results matter nothing else and gmc has failed as a leader and a winner for 8 freaking years.

  27. 813bucboi Says:

I just want to show up and give GMC an rhino jacket with the matching pants and hat because he needs “thick skin”….GO BUCS!!!!

  28. Getaclue Says:

You don’t need to see the film to know he doesn’t make impact plays when the game is on the line. It’s usually in garbage time he disappears when we need a play made. That’s not a trait of any of the greats, It’s as simple as that!!

  29. Keir Says:

Tmax is a career loser that doesn’t have the guts to use his name in his posts for fear that GMC, or probably any 7 year old with a balled up fist, would punch a hole in his bird chest.

  30. Joe Says:

    Patrick in VA gets it.

  31. Rod Munch Says:

I say you let any fan that showed up in, then you lead them to a conference room where you lock them inside and put Hard Knocks with Jeff Fisher and the Rams on an endless loop until they parish from lack of water.

    But that’s just me.
