Your Next “Hard Knocks” Storyline

Drama!

Many football fans will deny this to their dying day, but they love drama. Oh, do they love drama.

And no one knows drama like NFL Films and, in particular, HBO and “Hard Knocks,” the NFL Films-produced reality show. Their producers dream of dramatic storylines and boy did the Bucs serve one up last night for the next four episodes.

Miko? Yeah, but that’s too easy.

The Stick Carriers? They might get pushed aside for this.

Joe could smell this coming down Gulf Blvd. in Treasure Island and so too did fellow Bucs beat writer Trevor Sikkema.

@tampabaytre – HBO’s gonna milk the crap out of the scene where Aguayo gets cut.

Joe can see it now. You think America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, was hounded by “Hard Knocks” camera crews? Roberto Aguayo hasn’t seen anything yet.

Every waking hour Aguayo is going to have a boom mic hovering over him, and have one, perhaps two cameras documenting every second he remains at One Buc Palace — if he’s allowed back in after a missed field goal and extra point last night.

“Hard Knocks” will record every breath he takes, every kick he yaks at the skinny posts, every bead of sweat that drips from his brow right up until the moment he sits in winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter’s office to receive his parting gifts.

  3. Dewey Selmon Says:

Do it this morning, don’t let it be a distraction and move on.

  4. Gencoimports Says:

I have been rooting for the kid, but after yesterday I say it’s time for him to go.

  5. Fred E. Bucs Says:

Love it! Hard Knocks could be the best thing that happened to the Bucs kicking game. Adding playoff-time theater to a simple freakin’ point after attempt.

    BAMM!

I suspect they won’t dump Aguayo until after Preseason Game 3….first game at home. But when he misses on a hot Tampa Summer night in his own cave and Bucs fans tell him how they “feel” it willl be IT FOR HIM. But also, the start of the story is bringing in a kicker this week. Won’t that be a hoot? THREE on the roster?

THREE may not happen but we can talk about it anyway. I do think ByeByO is done. NO WAY are the Bucs going to let the anticipated three-point game decision come off of that boy’s foot. If Joe is right and they cut him now, I’m ready to ensure his bags get out of the hotel…and I don’t even work there.

  6. Oj "I Got The Juice" Howard Says:

Lol this whole situation is just so crazy. The Bengals kicker did pretty good last night, dude was drafted in the 5th round. Jason really outsmarts his own damn self sometimes man.

  7. Jarod Says:

Should have already been done! Should have never even happened in the first place! I said this last year , maybe he should try soccer ! As a goalie of course ! Cause we all know he can not kick for s#%t ! Good bye and good riddance

  8. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I would be surprised and disappointed if Roberto Aguayo is cut before final cuts, unless another kicker is brought in to compete. The plan was to ride them until last cuts, and the Bucs should stick to that plan.

Frankly, Folk is nearly as bad.

I would rather sign off the street than go with either of them at this point, but at the end of this, I want Roberto Aguayo to have until final cuts, just to be fair.

I don’t hold last year against him at all. To me, this year is his clean slate and he isn’t starting it off well, but things could change in the next game. He’s been doing much better in camp. Worth riding it out until last cuts.

  9. dmatt Says:

Joh Lee was drafted by Cardinals in 1986 2nd round (32) n mike nugent by Jets in 2005 2nd round (47) n both were cut once they repeatedly missed extra points n field goals which injuries contributed to their declining performance. Nugents problems occurred after an injury in 2008 when he was let go n Lee only lasted one season after an injury which he said contributed to his bad play. Once these two players demonstrated bad performance they were immediately released. Cardinals n Jets set the benchmark👎🏻…r we looking for a miracle?

  10. Eric Says:

No point in cutting him now. Ride it out through the preseason, then make decision.

Not like you can’t find kickers on any street corner.

Ergo the idiocy of drafting him that high.

  11. CautiousOptimism Says:

So Aguayo is not the next Janikowski?

  12. Dewey Selmon Says:

If you keep him until the end of preseason you are doing a disservice to your team. You can be evaluating another kicker during the next 3 weeks. I watching 4 kickers from both teams last night 3 of them had drive on the ball, Roberto doesn’t have a leg for the NFL.

  13. gotbbucs Says:

It’s done. There’s no way Koetter will put up with it anymore. You have to have confidence that your players will perform like they’re supposed to. There’s no reason to drag it out any further.

  14. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Dewey right on move on for him and more importantly the team

  15. darin Says:

    Dewey
Absolutely. No reason at all to keep him past today. All the facts u talked about and hard knocks for sure will add distraction if he is around. He cant handle the pressure of the games, plain n simple. Time to go. Go Bucs

  16. MadMax Says:

Cut him ASAP and bring someone else in PUHLEEZE!!!!!!!!!!!
We’re tired of this BS!!!!!!! Other than a few posters here, everyone is calling for it…..MOVE ON!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. darin Says:

Oh n folks make last night was further than any one aguayo made ALL last year. No brainer. Adios

  18. TheShaz Says:

No GM bats 1.000 in the NFL draft. But I will give Jason a mulligan on Roberto.
    .
I was rooting for the kid as well, when he missed the PAT, I knew it was over. The redemption FG kick at the end of the game, that miss sealed the deal in my mind.

I got in a Twitter fight with someone saying “Its not his fault he was drafted in the 2nd round” and my response “You can be a 4th round pick and if you kick like that, you are going to be cut. Period”

Sometimes it just does not work out.

    * Austin Sefarian-Jenkins
    * Roberto Aguayo

But as a GM, give him credit for gems like
    *Camron Brate
    *Ali Marpet
    * Kwon Alexander

I want the Bucs to cut the kid and move on, not to drag this out. I will not cheer when I see it on HardKnocks. I will feel bad for him. My worst fear, and Bucs fans we have had this happen to us so many times. We cut him, he lands on team XXX, finds his groove again and in the future makes the kick that beats us in a game. But even with that risk/fear hanging over my head. The team has to move on.

If I were Jason, I would keep an eye on the Bengals kickers…..only one can win the job……I am not 100% sold on Folk.

  19. dmatt Says:

Whatever happened to Connor Barth he was consistent set records, n won last minute games for us before lovie decided to let him go then fell in love n brought in aguayo’s other brother from another Kyle brindza who couldn’t kick a habit of the misses. Also what happened to Patrick Murray. Is murray n or Barth available to bring back in… I’ll take my chances there.

  20. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

    He’s Rod Jones.

  21. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

Why are my comments awaiting moderation?

  22. stpetebucsfan Says:

First things first. Aguayo needs to go. Drama is great for HK but not for the Bucs!

But…can we get off the freaking 2nd round selection! It was a mistake…no less nor any greater than the many mistakes this and every franchise makes all the freaking time.

IF Aguayo had done for the Bucs what he did for FSU he would have been worth the pick. IF he had been the real deal like Janikowski or Vinateri a 2nd round pick would have been fine. Look at us now! We’re all scared shtless about finding a kicking game for this year. IF Aguayo had been a great kicker that worry would have disappeared for more than a decade!!!

And please can we stop with all the nonsense about so and so got picked in this round or that round…people second guessing our Safety pick by saying who we “could” have taken…kickers taken in the 5th…by that freaking logic we dramatically overspent on #3 because Brady was a sixth rounder….Aaron Rodgers late first round…we could have traded that top pick for a half dozen others and rebuilt the team. Does anybody think that would have been a good move. No because #3 IS the real deal but if he was a bust…

Have we not heard all the cliches….don’t cry over spilt milk…if the Bullfrog had wings he wouldn’t scrape his behind hopping over the big rocks.

Playing what if’s is a total waste of time and doesn’t make anybody look any smarter.

So Licht made a mistake with the second pick…it won’t be his last mistake! Brady threw what should have been a game ending pick to end the SB 1st half…so what. Brady has enough great plays we overlook his mistakes.

Licht has had enough home runs…some of them freaking grand slams that he’s entitled to a few whiffs.

I could care less about the second guessing…what I care about now is can Folk do the job? This is a team poised to truly break out…we NEED a kicker with the same quality as the rest of our stars. I want an All Pro kicker!

  23. MadMax Says:

Barth is in chicago…did good the other night.

  24. JonBuc Says:

Aguayo-No! is done in Tampa. He might be able to resurrect his NFL career elsewhere…maybe not. The 2nd round draft status is an albatross in my opinion. All eyes on him immediately….been a shat show since.

  25. Doc D Says:

Buccaneer Bonzai……how is Folk just as bad? He made is only FG attempt and is therefore 100%. He has the 31st best FG % all-time. He is even better than Janikowski all-time. I would have no problem rolling with Folk. Aguyao, not so much.

  26. darin Says:

    Doc
Exactly buddy. Thank god bonzai isnt the gm. Ill be shocked if he is still on the team by the end of the day. Koetters face after the kick told that story. No way they can let this linger. Plus cut him now n see if he can somehow catch on with another team. Be bad for all parties to keep this going. Im just glad he didnt make a few kicks n win the job. The makeup on the pig only lasts so long.

  27. Stanglassman Says:

The 5th rounder for the Bengals is Elliott he went 1 for 1 from 45. The veteran Bullock made an extra point and went 2/2, long of 54. One of these guys could be our kicker if Folk slips up.

  28. Doctor Stroud Says:

Hard Knocks shines a big, bright spotlight on Aguayo’s story, and the brutal truth is that it doesn’t make the front office look good, regardless of how many other other picks do well. I like Aguayo, but Licht and Koetter are probably sick of answering questions about the kicker.

  29. Stanglassman Says:

You can’t look at Folk’s stats without talking into consideration that he was rushed back by the Cowboys after hip surgery. He told the them he didn’t have full mobility and strength and they put him out there anyway. Take away that year and his % jumps up to elite kicker’s stats.

  30. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Doc Stroud

Great point. The sooner Ohnono is gone the sooner we can all stop gripping about the draft mistake. And we know Licht is from the Bill Belicheat school of admitting your mistakes as quickly as possible and moving on.

Also Doc and Stanglassman thanks for those stats and perspective on Folk. I didn’t realize his record was that good.

  31. RayJameisStadium Says:

“the brutal truth is that it doesn’t make the front office look good, regardless of how many other other picks do well.”

    Seriously?!?!?!? Are you Dave???

    lol

  32. EA Says:

Licht should cut him now so he can stop hearing about this bust. There’s been early round bad picks before but this story is unique and will not die until Berto is gone, if he succeeds somewhere else so be it. He needs to go because he doesn’t have the mental toughness to kick in the NFL, bring another guy to compete with the former jet.

  33. Cobraboy Says:

The guy they should have kept was Patrick Murray. The Saints just signed him.

  34. JonBuc Says:

    CobraKai:

We can add Murray to the list….Matt Bryant, Barth…undone by injury in all 3 cases. The real stinger is Bryant…released in favor of Mike Nugent.

  35. JabooBuc Says:

What’s with the Folk negativity? He’s been a consistently good kicker in the league for years. He connected last night for 45 yards down the middle and his kickoff was thru the end zone.

  36. CautiousOptimism Says:

Wait I’m so confused. Are all of you telling me now that he is not the next Janikowski? I am certain nearly everyone insisted for the last 12 months that “he will be fine” because he is the next Janikowski.
So he is not the next Janikowski and he will not be fine?
    Again, confused…

  37. Cannonfodder Says:

Aguayo was just cut. Hope we bring in one more kicker
