Brent Grimes

Breathe easy, Bucs fans.

The Buccaneers’ No. 1 cornerback was back on the practice field today. Brent Grimes, with his shin bandaged, was working with trainers running sprints and testing his healing, deep gash. But that was it. Grimes was not in uniform.

Dirk Koetter said after practice that Grimes had some of his stitches removed but not all. And Koetter said Grimes could play in a game now if he had to.

Great news. And no, don’t expect to see Grimes any more this preseason.

There is no need. Grimes takes meticulous care of his body and has had plenty of summer reps.

Joe almost sees the Grimes injury as a blessing. It kept him out of harm’s way in the preseason. One could make a case Grimes is the most important player on the Bucs’ defense.

@Joe … “Joe almost sees the Grimes injury as a blessing.” Brent might disagree with you Joe; that was an ugly gash.

This headline almost made me puke.

It is a blessing for injury reasons and it gives Ryan Smith some much needed reps to be able to evaluate and improve.
I wish VH3 was playing the side he will be playing all season, just seems odd to me.
Haven’t heard anyone ask or talk about him but I feel like Javien Elliot has been very underwhelming. Am I wrong? Would like to see Bobby Mac get some 1st team nickel reps.

Wasn’t worried whether he would be back.. but thanks for the concern.

No you are not wrong. I was upset by four plays against the Jags…the poor choice by #3 at the goal line that coulda shoulda been a pick and the time he threw into double coverage…also coulda been a pick but otherwise I thought #3 was excellent!

But I yelled at the screen just twice…once when a #35 left a guy wide open swinging out of the backfield…he was the only player in that zip code so I gotta believe it was his responsibility…but perhaps not…the second time was in the 2nd half…3rd and 13 for the Jags in their territory so as expected they threw underneath to the TE…#35 has him dead to rights five yards shy of the first down…he not only whiffed on the tackle..he didn’t even slow the TE enough for help to arrive…first down Jags!

So I look up #35 on the roster…Javien Elliott. Those are the only two plays I remember so perhaps I’m not giving him credit for any good plays…but those two had me screaming at my TV screen.

Hard Knocks paid for itself w/ Miko’s cell phone snap of that gash. We would have NEVER seen it otherwise. I was anti-HK but that made me a believer.

That being said, I’m surprised more players don’t wear a padded “shin guard” like a soccer player…. that area is vulnerable.
