Evans Gets About $14 Million Reasons To Cheer

Party time for Mike Evans!

And he didn’t even get the contract extension most Bucs fans clamor for every week!

General manager Jason Licht announced today at One Buc Palace that the team will pick up the fifth-year option on Mike Evans, the final year of his rookie contract. That means as Evans enters his fourth season now, there is no worry that he’ll become a free agent next March.

That 2018 option will be worth roughly $14 million guaranteed to Evans next season.

Man, Joe is so happy for Evans. And, of course, the Bucs can tear up the option if they negotiate a full blown extension with Evans.

Evans deserved this big time. It’s a win-win. The Bucs shouldn’t be in any hurry to extend Evans’ contract further. Make him earn it even more, and absolutely pay him a truckload if he does.

Isn’t $14 mil within 2-3 million of what we would pay him anyhow?

  3. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Jason Licht that cagey GM is at it again, moves like this and the 2nd round kicker should have him a lock for GM of the year

  4. DB55 Says:

14 mil buys a whole lot of whataburgers

    It’s all about ME…

This is a no brainer and he will be getting extension so this won’t matter anyways.

Two WRs I really like in the draft that would fit with our system and be available in the later rounds are Robert Davis from Georgia State. He is 6’3″ and runs a 4.44 40. The other one is Josh Malone from Tennessee. He is also 6’3″ and runs a 4.40 40. We need big guys to help with James and his over thrown balls. Both guys would fit right in and could become our #2 eventually.

Take a TE like Leggett or Kittle in the 3rd or 4th then Davis or Malone in the 5th and out receiving core is set.

Many of our buc fans and local media personalities have amnesia. This is no different than how bucs treated mccoy or david. The bucs will most likely draw up a new contract next offseason that will kick in in the 2019 season. Both mccoy and david played out the final year of their contracts before the new one kicked in. The bucs will not tear up the 5th year option regardless of how well evans plays this year. Btw…14 – 16 mil is the going rate for #1 receivers (i know brown gets 17 as of this year). FYI Joe….Evans has already earned a big time contract.

DB55- Shut your mouth when you’re speaking about Whataburgers!!!

    Congratulations Mike.
Just don’t ask Drug Martin how to spend it.

I am pulling for DM though. I hope he comes in a kicks ass in training camp so we can address our other needs in the draft while offering him a base contract with incentives.

  10. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Figured they’d do it. Makes him prove himself again this year.

Of course, if we win a super bowl, he’s going to command a huge price.

  11. R.O. Says:

Just because they picked up the option doesn’t mean they won’t sign a new deal. The deadline to invoke the team option for the 5th year is approaching. This wasn’t unexpected… Right?

  12. Topdoggie Says:

Just throw ME the dam ball.

  13. Pa Privateer Says:

    Congrats Mike Evans!!!!!!

  14. Pickgrin Says:

Wow – never saw that move coming…..

  15. redblud Says:

Wow, I mean just Wow. I have no idea what Licht was even thinking picking up this option. Mike Evans is absolutely trash… This is going to destroy our franchise. SMH

  16. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

    Evans=Trash….

Wtf are you talking about?? Look at the dudes numbers all with no help from other receivers. He gets doubled and triple teamed constantly and still kills it. Wow

  17. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Funky – dude relax redblud was being sarcastic. Yeah, ole “KY hands” had to deal with a lot of nonsense and name calling from the Joe’s but many of us knew just how good this kid was! Lets take it to the next level now ME!

  18. Eric Denman Says:

Nice to see Texas boys getting paid!

  19. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

Yeah he has to prove himself worthy to receive a new contract according to Bonzai.
