Bucs Kick Off Preseason In Cincinnati

April 10th, 2017

Marvin Lewis plays host

Dirk Koetter and the Bucs will visit an old friend for the first Tampa Bay preseason game of 2017, and Joe’s not talking about Michael “Ghost” Johnson, the defensive end who stole eight figures of Team Glazer loot.

Your beloved Bucs kick off the preseason in Cincinnati against the Bengals and head coach Marvin Lewis, Koetter’s old pal from college.

The game will be scheduled sometime between Aug. 10 and Aug. 14, and broadcast on WFLA-TV, Ch. 8.

The Week 2 preseason game will be a Thursday night affair in Jacksonville on ESPN, August 17 at 8 p.m. The Bucs plan to have joint practices against the Jags in Jacksonville during the week leading up to the game.

The home debut, Week 3 of the preseason, will be between August 24 and 27 against the Browns, before the meaningless finale against the Redskins in Tampa on a date to be determined.

Ahhh, Bucs football. Real hitting just four months away.

Worst preseason game of them all…the first one.

Still…I’ll be needing a football fix badly by then…

  2. Fred E. Buc Says:

This is basically the same schedule as last year…if I’m correct. The only thing I hate about pre-season is: 1. Waiting for the regular season, and 2. Paying fulll price for the tickets that come with the season ticket package. But at least Game 3 (“dress rehearsal”) is here again, and maybe it won’t be tropical storm time and 10K there for the Skins in Game 4. Looks like joint practice on the road..too bad..it was cool seeing them mix with the Browns here. But of course, there is possibly Hard Knocks. Joe, get them to hurry up with the regular season schedule already! Gotta figure out this year’s road trip! Hmmm. Green Bay and nostalgia (if in Sep/Oct) and cheese and beer and sausage and Mil Brewers too; Buffalo and Niagra Falls (if in Sep/Oct); Minnesota and new stadium with technology or Rays need and meet the Twins on Friday night? Get this season going already!

Like every other preseason…work in the rookies..finalize the roster…and GET THROUGH IT HEALTHY!

  4. Fred E. Buc Says:

Buc Bonzai…I know what you mean. By then, I’m so starved I watch the HoF and Thurs night pre-season games…

  5. rayjay1122 Says:

Yeah Preseason football is rough to get through but since the off season is so freaking long we ingest the preseason due to severe football deprivation.

  6. Fred E. Buc Says:

Oh yeah, that’s right…last year it was Carson Wentz and the Eagles….not the Bengals…

  7. Jaykpatel Says:

Love having two road games for building team.

  8. DallasBuc Says:

Yeah who was the bozo GM that paid all that loot for Michael Johnson?

The last is the worst. Nobody plays, it’s all guys about to get cut and we’re *over* pre-season football.

At least the first game begins to quench the football thirst.

  10. SB Says:

Hidden behind a paywall at BSPN but I thought you guys should see it anyway.
    1. Carolina Panthers: 9-7 (9.3 mean wins; SOS: 31)
    2. Atlanta Falcons: 9-7 (8.6 mean wins; SOS: 17)
    3. New Orleans Saints: 7-9 (7.2 mean wins; SOS: 22)
    4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 7-9 (6.9 mean wins; SOS: 16
    ,……
This is their early predictions for 2017.
Really has someone bumped their head they actually see us going backwards???

  11. Jeremy Says:

On a positive note… We should look good in the preseason though because all of those teams will suck this year

  12. BucTrooper Says:

I like when we get 1 and 3.

Joe, any comment on the Bucs emerging as THE top candidate across several news outlets for Hard Knocks?

  14. Fred E. Buc Says:

Just got an email from the Bucs about a presser/media event tomorrow detailing the renovation of the RJS West Club starting….soon. I was lucky enough to get an invite/VIP treatment but it will also be carried live at buccaneers.com at 11:00 am tomorrow. If it is going to look anything like the brochure they sent out, gonna be a happening place in 2017!

  15. DallasBuc Says:

PFT reporting that RJS will be under construction right up to the start of the season.

  16. Rod Munch Says:

Good to hear on the RJS renovations – just hope they work on redoing the corridors. If they were to somehow widen the club seats corridors that would be awesome, but I don’t see how they have room for that. As always add more bathrooms too.

  17. Fred E. Buc Says:

They are upgrading restrooms, TVs in the club, adding a third sports bar, improving concession offerings, and installing surroung sound in the loungh, plus getting new furniture and fixtures. They are replacing the seats with better ones but I don’t think legroom or width changes, although some of the most expensive ones will be high back. West Club this year, East Club next year, and I think with upgrades over the last three years, that will complete $150 million in renovations, 130 of it paid for by Bucs and the rest by taxpayers….going to be top-notch stuff.

  18. Miko Says:

NFL scheduling getting worse every year…same old…why don’t the Bucs play Miami anymore? …regular sked will be similar to last year too 🙁
