Silly Season In Full Bloom

March 23rd, 2017

Slips?

Today, Joe smells a filthy outhouse.

Long-time readers know Joe avoids nearly all mock drafts. At best, they are exercises in futility and, at worst, are just crap thrown against the wall.

Helmethair Mel Kiper recently published his latest (weekly?) mock draft (they should be banned until the week of the draft if you ask Joe). As for the guy many analysts believe is the best all-around running back in the draft, Kiper not only thinks he will still be on the board when the Bucs draft at No. 19, but the Bucs will pass on him!

That guy is one Dalvin Cook.

Joe cannot fathom Cook lasting that long and, if for some reason the Bucs did pass on Cook, that tells Joe the Bucs dug up something that spooked them.

Look, it’s not like Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht has shied away from guys with checkered backgrounds. He drafted ASJackwagon. And while the guy mostly kept his nose clean, it was his head that was the problem. Then, of course, there was America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, who has been nothing less than a model citizen.

So if Licht passes on Cook, that screams from the high heavens the Bucs found a major red flag.

Kiper has Cook dropping to the Packers… at No. 29!!!

On face value, this just seems insane.

NEVER DRAFT A RB in the 1st RD UNLESS……he’s the next coming of BO JACKSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. mike Says:

As long as he checks out medically, you got to take him at 19. I would love it if Kiper is right and we can chose from cook, davis, the de from missouri and th TE from Miami… that would be great. Looks like howard will be long gone (I think cook and davis will be too).

  3. meh Says:

Corey Davis is a MUCH smarter pick than Cook. We should not be looking at RBs in the first round at all, but passing up Davis for Cook would be nuts.

  4. Ace WigSplitta Says:

Cook is the best back in this year’s draft! He comes from a pro system which demanded that he blocked and could catch out of the backfield. People talk about his shoulders…Yea right the guy was always available never out bc of injury! As for the combine gtfoh Cook clearly is the fastest and most explosive player tape, the kid checks all of the boxes!Ppl please stop with the you can get a great rb in the later rounds, while that may be true but will the guy be a special talent like Cook!If he is there and his background is clean draft him done deal!

  5. gotbbucs Says:

Deepest RB draft in history = don’t use a 1st round pick on one.

What the hell is the problem with you guys? Even if the rest of the offense is perfectly in place, which it isnt, you don’t waste a 1st round pick on a freaking RB.

  6. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ Ace WigSplitta

Have you ever had shoulder surgery?????

Guess what……I have…….and you know what

ask anybody who’s had any major joint surgery and they’ll all tell you it’s never the same again.

He maybe be able to be productive for a few games and maybe a few seasons…..but that’s hardly worth a 1st rd pick!

We don’t need another muscle hamster in Tampa, but a back that’ll productive for atless 6 to 8 years…..

RBs are a dime a dozen and the bucs can still find a good one in rds 2 or 3.

  7. meh Says:

Cook is really not that impressive. He’s good but not great. This draft is loaded with good but not great backs. The first round would be the worst possible spot to take a RB.

  8. jthv Says:

“This draft is deep at RB, don’t draft a RB in the 1st.” – Says people who have ZERO experience with NFL Scouting, Player Personel or Player Development.

But they do have Madden Football Franchise experience and stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

  9. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Anthem, or if you’re the Bucs, don’t draft Bo Jackson! Lol!

  10. Harry in Costa Rica Says:

I have wanted the Bucs to draft DE with the #19 pick, provided their is one that fits the BPA mold. However, if Cook is there to pick, I say take him – since Cook would basically complete our O, he is the one player that can keep our D off the field and rested.

  11. DoNUTS Says:

Think about this…many mock drafts have Cook to the Bucs at 19…when was the last time the obvious mock draft choice ended up being reality? Hardly ever so I think its time to move on toward the real needs of the team>> OL

THIS GAME IS WON – LOST IN THE TRENCHES.

How can you pass on Ramczyk or Robinson/ALA if they are there at 19? You could put any 2-4 round talent (Kareem Hunt!) in the backfield to run the pill in this passing league.

  12. Capt.Tim Says:

    Typical of every NFL draft.
Teams talk skill players, and Draft bigguns’
This draft has some extraordinary DEs. The Bucs can get a game Changer at 19.
I then believe they trade back into the first( typical Licht), and get John Ross.
They can Draft in 3rd round, that has the skill set they want.

    Its all fun after that

  13. Nybucsfan Says:

I would not draft a running back at 19 with bad shoulders. The shoulders take a lot of beating at that position

  14. Defense Rules Says:

Draft the BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE who’ll fill one of our priority needs (WR, RB, TE, C, DT/DE, Safety) with our first pick. There are 18 teams drafting above us, so lots of potentially outstanding players will be off the board by the time we draft. If Cook is the BPA, Bucs have to grab him. But I do trust Licht & Koetter et al to figure out which player still remaining at that point is the BPA to match our priority needs. So long as it’s not a long-snapper, I’m good with whatever they decide.

  15. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Jthv you know you come off as very arrogant. And just out of curiousity, how much experience do you have as a scout/ gm. My guess is that you have none as well.

  16. Erik w/ Clean Athletics 'The Kwon Alexander of Bucs Fans' Says:

I can honestly see us passing on Cook for Njoku or someone else, even if he’s there at #19.

But If we do take Cook, I’ll be happy with the decision and I’ll pull for him to be great and hopefully he makes me love him like Jameis did.

  17. jthv Says:

Cook played in 38 of 40 possible games in college career, HE HAS BAD SHOULDERS!!

Shoulders looked very bad when he destroyed Michigan’s top rated defense in the Orange Bowl 2 months ago.

***I’ll be happy with the BPA that fits our needs at 19, but IMO, nobody does this better than Cook if he’s there. Plain and simple.

  18. Capt.Tim Says:

“Draft a Rb in 3rd round”
    Sorry

  19. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Michigans best player didnt play in that game #1

And he fumnbled the ball 6 times this season because of that shoulder.

And its only going to get worse in the NFL. Against bigger, stronger, faster defenders.

  20. Supersam Says:

    Overrated thug

  21. jthv Says:

    Blake,

I am very arrogant and NO, I don’t have any experience.

But I also don’t articulate my opinion of 1 position being more valuable than another in the bottom of the 1st round as fact as some of the posters here do.

If the Cowboys drafted Jalen Ramsey instead of Zeke one could assume they wouldn’t have won 14 games. AND that pick was in the Top-5, not 19. So clearly, the Cowboys needed a RB and they took one despite what the positional value is as it was their #1 need. Sound familiar? I arrogantly reference facts, not spew misguided opinion.

  22. jthv Says:

He fumbled 6 times because of the shoulder?

So the fumble against Ole Miss in which he let go of the ball at the 1 yard line was because of his shoulder???

    Jeezus … come correct bud

  23. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Yeah dude, my boi JoeyPoppems did the research the other day, coming off of surgery in 2014, he fumbled 5 times, no surgery 2015 he fumbled once, and coming off surgery again in 2016 – 6 more fumbles.

Whether your famboy mindset accepts it or not, his shoulder injuries and fumbling woes are certainly correlated.

  24. Bucs76 Says:

Funny comments here, I am no football GM, but logic makes up for a lot…to say Dalvin is not that good, is pretty laughable…only the all time leading rusher at FSU. I think we remember how well the last all time leading rusher from FSU was. Anyone think warrick Dunn was overrated?

  25. macabee Says:

One week Cook’s in the top ten, the next he’s falling out of the first round. I have no preference here, nor do I offer this as proof for the draft. I post this to show what some pundits are saying. They may be right, they may be wrong. May Licht make the best decision! I just watch the games.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2699215-2017-nfl-draft-biggest-questions-still-facing-top-prospects

  26. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Oh btw everything you just said regarding zeke/ ramsey is speculative opinion. Not fact.

Also not sure if you know this, but arrogance means that you value your thoughts and perception more than others.

And I must add that it’s pretty dumb/ hypocritical of you to discount other philosophies due to lack of inexperience when you have none yourself.

  27. Bucballbaby84 Says:

@TheBucsAnthem do you remember what happened when the bucs drafted Bo Jackson? I’m pretty sure I can do without that scenario again.

  28. jthv Says:

    LOLOL “research”

2 of those fumbles were in the Rose Bowl vs Mariotta where the ball was punched out.

1 was the drop before the endzone while celebrating.

So 1/4 of your “research” is bullspit, should I research the other 3/4 for accuracy too??

  29. nate_tweetz Says:

I have a feeling many of the Cook haters on here talking about not drafting a RB in the 1st round were the same clowns praising Gruden for not drafting Adrian Peterson and drafting Gaines Adams! SMDH

  30. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Ok what possible difference does it make that a defender punched out the ball? #1 he still coughed up the rock and # 2 defenders do that in the Pros too.

Are you joking or just that blinded by your homerism?

  31. jthv Says:

And I’m not saying Cook @19 or Bust.

But saying he wouldn’t be the BPA @19 for our team is completely laughable.

  32. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Again that is your opinion. Not fact. Not even close to being a fact.

  33. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ Bucballbaby84

Ha ha ha ha………..times have changed obviously…….

  34. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

This article kind of flies in the face of the Joe Mixon article. Because it is Cook, it’s justified?

  35. jthv Says:

The difference is you pretty much stated matter of factly that his 12 career fumbles were due to him having bad shoulders.

Once presented with evidence that 1/4 of your “research” is bull, you double down and ask what’s the difference, a fumble is a fumble?

    Come on man, keep up.

  36. SB Says:

All of our prayers should be with Jameis and his family as his grandmother just passed away.

  37. Blake_bucsfan Says:

No, i said there is correlation between the 2 and the numbers back it up. Just because you refuse to accept it doesnt make me wrong.

  38. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If Licht feels Cook is the pick, then I support it. Once the picks are made, there is no point in crying over them anyway.

But I prefer to address one of the lines in round one…with OL higher on my list unless some incredible DE falls to us.

I don’t believe Licht will draft a WR before round 4, not with the free agents he has brought in. I could see a CB in round 3…the kick returner whose name I don’t feel like spelling right now 😉 .

I think Mixon will plummet, contrary to what some fans believe. I think he’s be there in round 4.

The smart move is to address the lines first, because games are won in the trenches. Good lines improve the production of ALL the other positions. It only makes sense to make the lines the priority. They might not be the exciting picks like RB or WR, but they are the smart picks.

Bottom line though…BPA at any position of need.

    Including Safety.

  39. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Man, I got moderated for a smiley face. The system is really picky today.

  40. jthv Says:

Joe, the title to this post is 100% accurate!

  41. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

jthv, 9 isn’t much better than 12 fumbles, is it?

    I’M DONE

  43. mike10 Says:

I think Cook’s grading out as a 1st rd pick is more a product of the other running backs coming out, rather than his actual skill-set.

I see a quick burst, choppy feet, a very strong runner, and good out of the back field.

However, I do NOT see the break-away speed, that warrants a top 20 pick. He gets caught by too many safeties and corners. If he can’t break free in college, he won’t in the pros.

  44. Broy34 Says:

Look through the archives. I just said yesterday the bucs will pass on him. There are other great running backs and right now everyone is thinking ill wait til the second

  45. Blake_bucsfan Says:

“Whether your famboy mindset accepts it or not, his shoulder injuries and fumbling woes are certainly correlated.”

    I also said this.

  46. Joeypoppems Says:

    @jhtv @Blake

Since I was brought up I will chime in. First off I wouldn’t say, and I haven’t said, that the injured shoulder was 100% the reason of his ball security issues. It is just a possibility. There is a chance it is just a big coincidence. Either way it is something that should and probably will be brought up during his evaluation.

Like you said jhtv. We don’t have any experience in this line of work so if I can find a possible connection between the two then I’m sure teams can too.

  47. mike10 Says:

I’m seeing a lot of posts above that I agree with.

Shout out to GotBucs, meh, DoNuts…

Let’s just say it would tell me a lot about Licht if he drafts a RB in the first rd this year… too many other spots that need to be addressed, and too many RBs in the draft and left in FA.

  48. jthv Says:

    Bonzai,

    9 in 766 touches, so 1 in every 85.

He scored a TD 1 in every 15 touches, so 5.5 TD’s per fumble.

    Numbers don’t lie

  49. Waterboy Says:

Wow he has great balance, vision, versatility and ran thru quite a few tackles. You can’t teach or coach that, either you have it or you don’t.

I’m normally in the camp to not draft a RB in the 1st rd but this year’s draft class is not only deep in RB’s but also deep in DB’s and WR’s and with Corey Davis not being able to run the 40 before the draft I’d take Cook every time if both are on the board at 19. I’m also aware of the short career spans of RB’s but if Cook can’t last 5 yrs his last 2 years would be Winston’s 5th and 6th season in the league and by that time I expect him to be playing at his peak level which should give the Bucs a pretty dominate offense.

  50. jthv Says:

    Mike10,

Did you watch the highlight video Joe imbedded in this post? How many times was he caught from behind? The guy is explosive with pads on.

Interesting to know what he runs with his pads on? Is he strong enough to carry his pads and not allow them to slow him down much from his 4.9 underwear speed? Hmmm

  51. Joeypoppems Says:

As far as Kiper’s mock draft goes. At least he had us making a good pick if we pass on Cook. Bucky Brooks mocked us Jarrad Davis, the LB out of Florida. In Brooks mock Cook was off the board so we didn’t pass on him, but this is just a bad pick imo.

I don’t understand why some people on here list LB as a need. Depth might be a need, but not a starter.

In today’s NFL, you don’t need a trio of great LBs, you need a trio of great CBs. Daryl Smith had 3 consecutive seasons with 120+ tackles in Baltimore before we signed him. Last year he had 35.

Why the decrease in production? Not because of age, but because he barely played. Teams play in Nickel coverage for almost 70% of the defensive snaps. When we were in Nickel, Daryl Smith’s spot came off the field. Why invest big in a starter that will play 30-40% of snaps?

We can find someone who can be compitent for 30-40% of the snaps. We drafted Bond in the 5th round last year. I think he should get a shot.

  52. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

    Get’em jthv😉..

  53. Blake_bucsfan Says:

The only thing jthv got is his panties in a twist.

  54. jthv Says:

    JoePopp,

couldn’t agree more, when I saw Brooks’ mock I almost spit out my rum, almost. An LB? Did he do any team research or was he throwing spit on a wall?

I would bet a DE or DB before a LB.

    That’s truly a Silly-Season mock.

  55. Marcbucs88 Says:

If you had the chance to draft Ezekiel Elliott, would you pass on him? What about Marshawn Lynch? Just because “guys are available in the later rounds” doesn’t mean you are garunteed a slam dunk. David Johnson may have panned out, but anyone who saw “All or Nothing” know that’s was a complete crap shoot.

That’s all any of this is at the end of the day, tbh. A crap shoot. If you think the guy is going to be a stud, you draft him. End of story. Besides, I think Jason Licht knows more about football than anyone on this board. So, whatever he decides to do is good with me.

  56. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Joe, are any of these prognosticators, super chummy with GMs? where a GM will tell mayock, kiper, mcshay, to start knocking someone so that it is the intent of having ppl or gms think the stock is going down and a team can get the player? I mean in today’s political climate, why wouldnt one of these guys scratch a buddy who is a GMs back?

  57. jthv Says:

  59. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Man that never gets old. Thanks for the vid Joe, now I’m ready to start my day. @#”Greatness”..

  60. Joeypoppems Says:

As far as my opinion on Cook goes. As long as his shoulder is good then I’m fine with the pick. I said it yesterday, I just want them to draft a starting caliber RB. I’m not gonna worry about which round they take him in. It wouldn’t shock me at all if the interest in guys like Hunt, Mack, and Brian Hill were just fall back plans if Cook is gone by #19, not initial targets.

  61. Maze Says:

Obviously because McCaffrey is the better back with more upside and character

  62. Pickgrin Says:

“Silly Season In Full Bloom” – for a second there before reading – I thought you were referring to the “innocent girl” theme in your last article Joe…

Cook is one of the best RB prospects to come out in quite a few years. Anyone who thinks differently – go watch the DC highlights clip Joe posted above and then watch it again. Cook gets the edge better than any RB I’ve seen in a long time. Count how many times on those highlights he takes it to the outside, turns it upfield down the sideline and is just flat out GONE – TD! Cook is a TD machine! He can score on any play from anywhere on the field. 38 running TDs in just the last 2 seasons.

I am not on board with trading up to get him, but if Cook is there at 19 (highly unlikely IMO) – that’s a no-brainer to draft him.

  63. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

I eluded to it lay night. If you noticed in the video he broke on one play got behind the defense clutched his right hammy and went to the ground. Got treatment in the sideline and came back in the game. This occurred three or four times that game. He finished that game. See I love Dalvin for the same reason I love Fameis #1 on my list humility. They are super talented but not divas. I’ve witnessed Dalvin on the sideline congratulating his teammates. He told the back up last season bro”you gotta be better than me”. I’ve seen the video of him after a game telling teammates so what we won we still got work to do. See that ish can’t be taught that’s usually just in you. If noticed I’ve said nothing about physical talent. I love Dalvin Cook and f@$! anybody that has a problem with that for real.

  64. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Pick what happens when he plays against a defense that can set an edge and it’s not there to get to?

  65. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Pick coming from someone who hasn’t always been pro Dalvin And still may not be pro Dalvin salute my G.

  66. Pickgrin Says:

NOS BOS – I’ve always been “pro-Dalvin”. I’m an FSU fan – seen most all of his games and know full well what he is capable of. Dude is a special talent.

I’m just a realist and know that Cook is WAY too good a player to be available at #19. If he is and the Bucs draft him – you and I will both be celebrating over it.

  67. jthv Says:

Using this as reference — http://www.espn.com/college-football/player/gamelog/_/id/3116593/year/2016/dalvin-cook

Look what he did against the likes of S. Florida, Louisville, Florida, Miami, the National Champs Clemson and Michigan. Look at what he did to these teams on multiple occasions between ’15-16 when he was the focal point of their defensive game plans.

    The kid is a stud.

  68. Trenton Says:

Dalvin will get into the HOF over Zeke 20 years from now… you heard it here first

  69. Mr Smith Says:

If we pass on Calvin Cook whoever gets him will get the best back in the draft!Yes Jason Licht needs to grab him at 19 if he is available

  70. Mr Smith Says:

If we pass on Dalvin Cook whoever gets him will get the best back in the draft!Yes Jason Licht needs to grab him at 19 if he is available

  71. DPewter Says:

I would be surprised if we didn’t pickup OJ Simpson, David Njoku, David Corey, or John Ross if any of them were still on the board. However If Cook was still on the board and we take him it wouldn’t be a mistake.

Due to his injuries some teams might be apprehensive to drafting Cook which could lead to him falling to the bucs a realistic scenario. However I believe a true Y TE who can block and pass catch is the missing piece. I am also convinced the brass isn’t completely done with Martin.

  72. mike10 Says:

Jthv, watched all 9 min, twice. The only safeties/DBs he beat were ones that took a bad angle. I didn’t see him win too many foot races.

  73. Mr Smith Says:

The next Frank Gore with a better offense and Defense

  74. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

That’s whus up Pick. I’m of the mindset that there are RBs and every so often there are Special players that happen to play a particular position of they’re choice i.e. Julio Jones. There were other good WRs from that class but JJ was special so the length that the falcons went to to ensure they acquire him wasn’t outrageous in my opinion. If Dalvin is at the top of Licht’s draft board I will not be disappointed by any measure taken in order to acquire him. This has absolutely nothing to do with homerism. All to do with how special a talent I believe Dalvin to be.

  75. Bobby M. Says:

Personally….grab Blount off the street….draft another RB in rds 1-3, RB is solved for this year. Blount is a baller, coming from the Patriot way, we need some veterans that are actual winners in our huddles.

  76. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Mac I read that and after reading I find it funny that people inside the league are saying as such but experts like Blake feel they got it all figured out. Draft night quickly approaches.

  77. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Bobby I wouldn’t be mad at a return Blount. Most teams are exercising a committee these says anyway.

  78. jthv Says:

    Mike,

In the video he broke multiple 60+ yard TD runs … just curious, are 60+ yard runs not a “footrace”? In the video, he broke multiple 70+ yard runs … same question applies.

While I will agree that there is some pretty bad angles taken by the defenses, players don’t get faster from College to Pro, they get smarter which allows them to play faster.

Dalvin has elite vision already, pair that with the significant upgrade with offensive blocking in the NFL and the results you see in the video may become a career pattern and not a product of Man vs Boys.

    Splitting hairs here Mike

  79. mike10 Says:

    Jhtv

Those long runs are either 1. Again, with the secondary taking bad angles, or 2. With the secondary low and in the box where they lose the battle the second Cook blows past his OL.
I get it, he’s a great back. Just not top 20 IMO and not a top 10 RB in the league today..

Let me just say I’m a believer that our OL needs upgraded this year, before our RB spot. And that there are many other avenues available, esp this yr, to get a quality starting RB to put atop our RB depth… if we don’t get the guy in the draft, fine, don’t reach – you go get someone in FA for the next 2 years. We have the cap room and would be better off with a quality vet who will get us over the top. Remember the next couple years are our most important before we have to start paying The Big 3 (Kwon, JW, and ME).

  80. Dewey Selmon Says:

Cook will go to the Colts @15 Perfect replacement for Gore.

  81. Dubcity06 Says:

Kiper has us taking Corey Davis. Much better pick than a RB

  82. Brandon Says:

Enough on not being able to fathom the Bucs passing up a RB in round 1. The last time we heard that talk it was about the Bucs moving up to take Trent Richardson. The same Trent Richardson that is completely out of the league. Instead we took Mark Barron while I was clamoring for Luke Keuchly…. while people told me he wasn’t worth it.

  83. mike10 Says:

Brandon I’m there w you on the Keuchly pick. I wanted him too. Silver lining is that we got L David that yr.

  84. BurgDweller Says:

Nobody has made a better living at guessing than Mel Kiper.

  85. Sauerpickle Says:

Bucsanthem, hahahaha…… as if Bo Jackson was a championship rb? Sheesh, that’s some advice for sure. If you go look at the last 15 years of drafts, it’s far easier to find a rb in those early rounds that were successful more so than any other position out there as far as playmakers go.

  86. Blake_bucsfan Says:

If not for a freak injury, Bo Jackson would’ve gone down as one of the best ever.

  87. gotbbucs Says:

Quit watching highlights, a good video editor can make almost any college skill position player look great. Dalvin is a very good RB, no doubt. All this team needs though is a guaranteed chain mover, our home run threats are lined up on the outside. Perrine will be the most productive back in this draft.

My opinion is to not build your team around a RB, build it to use a type of RB that you can find in most drafts.

    Forrest Lamp in the 1st
    Budda Baker in the 2nd
    Samaje Perrine in the 3rd

  88. WideRightDevil Says:

Man, this dude is a Touchdown waiting to happen. dang.

  89. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

My thing is this folks talk about shoulders everyday. But did he at any point go to Jimbo an say “coach I think I need to sit out a few games so is not to hurt his draft stock” no. 38 out 40 games played look real good to me. And the bowl game according to the media there was never a chance of him sitting out and allowing his teammates to play without him. Warriors,I love’em and will welcome them to my fav pro team anyday.

  90. JJBucFan Says:

D Pewter- I hope we don’t pick up OJ Simpson, that guy is washed up! He does have “killer” instincts though. LOL. I am very afraid of Njoku. Unbelievable specimen, just hasn’t done it long enough for my liking, he screams of workout warrior to me (combine freak). Having said that, he could also be the next Jimmy Graham which wouldn’t be half bad.

  91. JJBucFan Says:

Okay, I just watched the highlights again. Someone please show me how Fournette or McCaffrey are better. Those “bad angles” some of you are talking about are because he set the defenders up for that or plain out ran them. He ran 4.49 so anyone that says he isn’t fast is smoking crack. Emmett Smith ran 4.6 something and if he got a step, no one could catch him. He sets defenders up better than anyone has in years. Shady McCoy does that very well. Not the fastest guy but quick as he!!. Cook has a little of that and a lot of speed. Those highlights were against some of the best teams in the country. B!$$h Please!!

For people wanting a DE, I’m sorry but how many DEs have we drafted in the last 10 years? How many went on to be good, let alone great? Big mistake not going after someone like Connor Barwin with a non-stop motor and plenty of experience. I hope there is still a decent DE in FA or one becomes available after the draft because not comfortable with Jack Smith coming off that ACL.

  92. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

And I’m talking bout no one ever caught Emmitt from behind.

  93. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

And you right JJ give me the guy with the High motor over the more talented guy anyday.

  94. NFLNut Says:

JOE … it’s not just Kiper … I commented last week about the NFL Network’s David Jeremiiah’s mock that had the Bucs taking a CB I’ve never heard over Cook and the Chiefs drafting him at #27!

Many seem to think Christian Mac has leapfrogged Cook and I also said that could happen about a month ago as some teams put “character” way ahead of performance and might be scared of Cook’s past and entourage …

COOK AT #19 WOULD BE A STEAL IMHO … THOUGH MIXON IN THE 2ND 3RD REPRESENTS EVEN MORE OF A “VALUE” PICK IF YOU CAN STOMACH DRAFTING HIM …

  95. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

NFL you really put credence on what those type say. They’ve been changing every other week for weeks now bro. To me they’ve been instructed to be more diverse this year considering last year this time everyone was saying VH3 and draft night came around and it was VH3. Not good a look for the nfl.

  96. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

There are four writers that can be seen on Buc.coms that have us drafting Dalvin and haven’t changed for weeks. Out the spotlight dudes who’s Intel may very well be somewhat accurate. Give me a minute I’ll find the names.

  97. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Kiper McShay Jeremiah Brooks all have a specific job to do every year round this time. Build interest.

  98. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Yeah Anthem, Dallas really swung and missed with Elliot. Love how guys are always talking about draft BPA. I guess that applies to all positions except for RB.

  99. Bucsfanman Says:

    Yawn! BPA at #19!

  100. Wausa Says:

Bucs have perhaps the worst group of running backs in the NFL.

Dalvin would significantly improve the Bucs offense.
I hope he is available when we pick in the first round

  101. Destinjohnny Says:

If u scout properly u can find simulator talent in the later rounds

  102. Joeypoppems Says:

The Bucs definitely do not have the worst group of RBs in the NFL lol. I would take our current group of RBs over the Jags, Giants, Raiders, Jets, Bengals, Chiefs, Packers, and Lions. We need to upgrade but we have better than other teams.

  103. 813bucboi Says:

bucky brooks has us taking jarred davis at #19….his stock is rising….that would give us the best lb group in the country….defense wins championships…..GO BUCS!!!!!

  104. JJ Says:

Then Bucky Brooks just put the crack pipe down

  105. Joeypoppems Says:

Jarred Davis is a bad pick. You don’t need 3 good LBs in today’s NFL. You need 3 good CBs

  106. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Agreed Joey, we just need depth at Lb.

You need a legit secondary in todays NFL. Especially in our division.

According to Jenna Laine the bucs have been showing STRONG interest in Obi Melfonwu since the senior bowl.

  107. Capt. Blighe Says:

McCafferty over Cook you homers, Ross Peppers or McCafferty at 19

  108. Joeypoppems Says:

They met with Melifonwu after the UConn Pro Day. I’ll be following him wherever he ends up. I live in Connecticut and we don’t have a lot of talent coming out of UConn that often lol

  109. Joeypoppems Says:

If Melifonwu does end up a Buc It will be interesting to see how Mike Smith uses him. His size gives him some versatility

  110. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Capt. I read an article that spoke highly of McCaffery today but the writer noted at the end of the piece he is a “scheme specific”football player.

  111. Buccaneer scotty Says:

I think it will be Nijoku! Period no matter who else is there they brought him in and they love the kid!

  112. Joeypoppems Says:

They will bring in many more guys too lol

  113. MadMax Says:

Go DE at 19, then if Cook is still there (doubt it) move back into the 1st like we did with Martin. And if Evan Engram is still there in the 2nd and we still have it, get him!

  114. JAB83 Says:

looks like he is being shout out a cannon everytime… Fire them cannos never meant so much…

Where is Gene D on those calls… Hmmmmm… We might be hearing them soon????

  115. JAB83 Says:

    Shot out of a cannon

  116. Eric Says:

After watching the highlights I wasn’t all that impressed. The holes that he was running through were gigantic. He wasn’t running through people and no he wasn’t blazing fast as some of you suggest. 4.5 is rather pedestrian for a 1st round RB. I don’t think he is garbage but he is no Bo Jackson….not even close. Jackson could have given him a 10 yard bump and still BEAT his a$$! He reminds me alot of Caddy Williams in many ways except Williams had much better highlights, hell Martin was way more impressive coming out of college. To say he is the best RB is just HOMERISM at it’s finest. Enough with FSU clowns saying a player is better just because he was a Seminole. In case those of you who are obviously biased didn’t know, you sound so stupid with the crap that comes out of your mouth.
Fournette, McCaffery, Samuel, and Foreman look more explosive and don’t have a shoulder problem. I had shoulder surgery in 2009 and I can tell you like almost anyone else who had shoulder surgery that it never gets back to 100% and continues to get worse with time. It’s in the back of my mind during every activity I have to use it. I work in the bay area as a firefighter and after every fire it hurts for a couple days. Once the adrenaline starts going you forget about it and pay the consequences later. I say we go TE, WR, CB, OR DE in the first.

  117. Reno bucs fan Says:

    COOK WILL BUST OUT!!!
He runs upright and flat footed. No ability to cut. He has to lean like he’s on a bike in order to change direction. For the love of good I hope the Bucs don’t draft him.

  118. Skipper Says:

Interesting reading some of the comments here, Cook runs flat footed, mike10 says all of Cooks long runs which were many, the DB’s and safeties took bad angles. I watched most all of FSU’s games, opposing defenses game plan to stop Cook, not many had success. Nothing wrong with wanting someone else at 19, but to scoff at Cooks talent makes me wonder if the Naysayers watch college football. I’ll predict Cook will be offensive rookie of the year regardless of which team drafts him.

  119. mike10 Says:

    Skipper.

I’ll challenge that. I think he’s a great back, just not a top 20 pick. I see a lot of things that I like about him. He can make that first guy miss, which he will need often with our OL. He will be great between the tackles but won’t beat out Kenny Vaccaro, Desmond Trufant or Captain Munnerlain in a foot race.

There are too many other players at that position available, requiring less of an investment.

  120. JJ Says:

Mike10- how many RB in the league WILL beat a DB in a race? Are you serious? Historically Dbs are the best athletes and fastest guys as a collective group. Of course there are freaks like C. Johnson and Ross, but overall these are the best athletes in the world. They may be able to run him down (with an angle) but it is another thing to get him to the ground. He created most of those “bad angles”. You guys are so ridiculous. I give credit to Gators, canes, wolverines, etc. the tape doesn’t lie. If we don’t take him at 19, it will be because he is gone, plain and simple. BTW, if you watched any Noles games at all, you would realize how bad the OLine has been the last 3 years.

  121. JJ Says:

Funny how nobody trashes C Mc or Fournette, but so much venom for Cook tells you everything you need to know about the poster. It’s okay to not want him, but to trash his infield production is insane.
