JPP And The Defense

February 20th, 2017

Not just a pass rusher.

Last week, Joe declared being warm to the thought of Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht chasing three-fingered Jason Pierre-Paul, pass rushing specialist of the Giants.

And this notion was stoked this morning when Joe heard what Tom Crean-clone and Giants beat guy for Newsday, good guy Bob Glauber said on “PFT Live,” hosted by the creator, curator and overall guru of ProFootballTalk.com, the great Mike Florio.

(Florio’s TV show is excellent, as one would expect from Florio, but for some strange reason it just isn’t in Joe’s TV morning wheelhouse. Joe is much more inclined to gawk at the TV news hotties while nursing coffee — Ainsley Earhardt and Robin Meade force Joe to give his remote a workout each day. Hell, with apologies to hard-working Peter Schrager, Joe cannot get into “Good Morning Football,” which Schrager co-hosts with porn glasses-wearing Kay Adams on NFL Network. Joe gets the impression that show is geared to a demographic that doesn’t include Joe. The show is a bit too caffeinated and a hint too ADD. Sad to admit, Joe watches much more of “Hot Stove” on the MLB Network than “Good Morning, Football,” which is only watchable in small spurts — yes, MLB Network’s Lauren Shehadi is very easy on the eyes. Recently, Joe had an epiphany and decided to start DVR’ing Florio’s show so Joe can still get his daily doses of Earhardt and Meade.)

This morning, Glauber told NBC Sports Network viewers he would not be surprised one bit if the Giants franchise JPP to protect him and then continue to work on a contract.

What got Joe worked up — not quite as much as staring at Earhardt, Meade or Shehadi — was how Glauber referred to JPP’s run-stuffing as “relentless.”

Granted, Joe doesn’t watch many Giants games and tries to stay away from the NFC East, which is crammed down our throats yearly. That’s thanks to Dick Ebersol and NBC, their alleged best division. So frankly, Joe was unaware JPP was that good of a run defender.

Even with the addition last year of promising Noah Spence, who knows if he can return fully from his shoulder surgery? The Bucs are still searching for a friggin’ double-digit sack guy. Still!

This is why Joe is inclined to keep an open mind about JPP. Jacquies Smith is simply unreliable because of injuries and no, Will Gholston is not a consistent pass rusher.

Hey, Jason Licht can throw quite a bit of Team Glazer loot around this offseason. Why not take a run at JPP? Unless of course the Bucs have thrown in the towel on ever getting 10 or more sacks from a defensive lineman.

Just stop mentioning Jac Smith altogether Joe he is beyond unreliable and a waste of a roster spot at this point. If bucs want to compete consistently they need to stop relying or Gambling on unproven, unreliable flash in the pan injury prone bums. It’s time for the bucs to raise the standards

Michigan DE Taco Charlton will be a 60 tackles, 12 sack guy in the NFL.

  3. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Lol, well if you are correct Lakeland he will go number one overall and will have bust in the HOF in 2037. Unfortunately, guys that are made to late first rounders are a bit of a gamble so who knows if that actually happens. If he does do that and Tampa passes it will be a big regret in the future.

Just saw Charlie Casserly’s mock draft. And he has Solomon Thomas falling to 17. If that happens…. Solomon Thomas, unlike Dalvin Cook or any running back, would 100 percent be worth trading up for. He could transform our pass rush for years to come. Kid is a straight up monster.

    @LakeLandBuc

I a also pretty high on Taco Charlton. Idk if he will have that production from day 1, but if he can improve mainly his timing off the snap…. Sky is the limit for him imo.

rather have Campbell he and GMC whoa!

Sorry Joe, but I’ll take Kay Adams all day/night over the other two you mentioned.
    Porn glasses and all!

I agree with everything you’ve said about Good Morning Football, the show is highly unwatchable due mostly to how loud everyone is. It’s way too early in the a.m. for all that screaming. Hey but at least it’s not First Take or anything else ESPN thinks is good TV.

  9. Joe Says:

    how loud everyone is.

Bingo! Lotta hollering! Just a bit too much coffee.

“Hot Stove” is sort of a relaxed, I’m-still-waking-up kinda show.

Hey but at least it’s not First Take or anything else ESPN thinks is good TV.

    Amen!

Which two? Joe mentioned three. 🙂

For Joe, nothing against porn glasses-wearing Kay Adams, she would be No. 4 in that group.

I realize JPP is a long shot, but if he hits the market, Licht needs to go after him. JPP said last year that he nearly took the Bucs up on their offer, and that they had actually offered more than the Giants. He decided to give the home town discount for a year.

So, if he hits the market, we need the guy. He’s proven he is driven to succeed. He overcame his injury and found a way to be a difference maker. That shows grit and determination.

A signing like that would be Simeon Rice-like for the Buccaneers, and would push our defense over the top.

    Oh, man!

If we try for JPP he needs to give us the 5 finger discount.

Wow I’m surprised Joe isn’t getting hammered for watching fox news lol.

Wow I’m surprised Joe isn’t getting hammered for watching fox news lol.

Clarification: Joe watches the chicks. 🙂 Joe can get news anywhere but you have to give him a reason to click over. God bless Roger Ailes!

(Notice Joe also included sultry Robin Meade who works for the sister network of “Fake News” CNN. LOL)

  17. Buc believer Says:

I agree with Joe, Ainsley is who I like to wake up with every morning too!

  18. tmaxcon Says:

    Robin Meade so very hot

  19. tmaxcon Says:

The only thing hotter than Fox’s Blonde lineup was the old wet t shirt contests at sheppards. I guess that would be considered a war on women in today’s PC mess of a world.

  20. Alstott up the gut Says:

Jared Odrick has been released. Signing him over A Spence would be a nice depth upgrade for not a lot of money (if shoulder injury from last season checks out) for the defensive line. Draft a pass rusher and sign depth.

  21. RawBucFan Says:

We should prioritize 2 free agents above all else WR Desean Jackson (much needed #2 receiver) & DT Jonathan Hankins (upgrades entire DL, run D & versatility in case of injury). Resign McDougald, Gholston, Shepherd, Robinson & Rodgers for continuity, ST & locker room. This allows us to take best player available in draft in each round for potential starter or depth. Critical offseason. Division is there for the taking!! What u think Bucs fans??

  22. Buc1987 Says:

    Captain Cavemaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!

  23. Buc1987 Says:

“Fox News will finish 2016 as the most-watched network in all of cable for the first time in its history, beating out non-news channels such as ESPN, USA Network and TBS.”

    Wow.

  24. Buccfan37 Says:

I don’t watch any of the fake news big shot networks. Far more truth available on the internet. Who knows how long that will last with the control of the internet turned over to China who severely restricts content in that nation.
