Practice Makes Brent Grimes

Interesting after-Christmas work

Great, great stuff going on behind the scenes at One Buc Palace last week when the Bucs were preparing for what was a very meaningful but ultimately meaningless victory against the Panthers.

You want to know how to find committed players. See who’s dialed in after Christmas with no playoffs on the line.

Enter Brent Grimes, a very wealthy 33-year-old Bucs cornerback who had a hell of a season and a critical pick-6 in the one-point win Sunday.

Speaking on the Buccaneers Radio Network immediately after the game, Dirk Koetter was asked about Grimes’ big play.

Koetter went right to what was happening on the practice field.

“First of all, Brent Grimes had an unbelievable week of practice, he must have had six or seven picks in practice this week,” Koetter said. “You know, I just had an inkling he was going to make a big play at some point.”

How bout that! Grimes, the veteran, locked in for six or seven interceptions during a week of no-pads practices. (Note: media only gets to watch roughly the first 30 minutes of practice, during which players are primarily warming up.)

Of course, Joe was wondering who the hell Grimes was picking off? Generally, the first-team offense doesn’t play against the first-team defense in practice.

So was it Mike Glennon playing loose with the football? Or was it No. 3 QB Ryan Griffin?

Joe will wildly speculate it was Glennon, just to publicly help Dirk Koetter’s fresh backup QB wish to come true.

im surprised they kept throwing at grimes side

Yeah, because Cam decided to throw towards Grimes because the game didn’t matter. Had the game mattered, he would have made different decisions. SMH
