Spence’s “Weird” Rising

December 4th, 2016
Injury has helped.

Injury has helped.

Last week, when asked about rookie stud Noah Spence, Dirk Koetter referred to his development as “weird” because he has played hurt and was damned near put on injured reserve.

Spence wears a shoulder brace and he told Joe he expects to have an MRI on the shoulder after the season.

This past week, Spence admitted Koetter’s “weird” assessment may not be far off. Spence believes that brace has actually helped him play better.

“I feel like it keeps me focused on having good technique, so I won’t do anything to hurt myself or anything like that,” Spence said.

Look, Spence, with 5.5 sacks, is having a fine rookie season. He is second in the NFL for rookies with sacks. And NFL history demonstrates rookie defensive ends struggle.

Imagine what this manbeast can do with a year under his belt and playing at 100 percent? Dang!

Kobe is a believer. Kid has a motor and plays to till the final whistle

Kid seemed pissed not getting snaps and called a 3rd down specialist. You can see on tape he is really trying and playing the run much much better. However….

Comparing bosa to spence? Are you guys nuts? Bosa has HOF talent. End of this year, bosa will be considered top 5 defensive player in the NFL

This comes as no surprise to me. Noah was by far my favorite pass rushing prospect based on the film I had seen. I remember now just how ecstatic I was getting him in the 2nd round.

  3. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Kobe, you’re really something else. And you’re way off base.

  4. Kobe Faker Says:

Let me add, at 2nd round, that was great value and pick by jason gump. Actually gump has (i cant believe it) has arranged enough players in this roster to be a playoff team THIS year

Kobes Beef is with koetter the clowns playcalling and how to best use the players

  5. Rrsrq Says:

He will be leading rookies in sacks after getting a couple today

  6. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

JOE won’t block you Kobe but I really wish I could, kinda like Facebook … You ARE spam!!!!

  7. Kobe Faker Says:

Why should i be banned? Im not doing anything wrong. Ive always been cordial to fellow posters

    Im a jameis/jenna laine/bucs fan

Sometimes when hurt, it forces players to play smarter and not rely on talent. Spence has admitted to using better technique. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that he is doing more film study and doing a better job translating it to game time situations. Watching film to learn tendencies, stance, and lean, to exploit offensive lineman and protect his shoulder on

  9. The Buc Realist Says:

kobe faker has not been cordial. he has been down right disrespectful!!!! Especially towards the coaching staff!!! and he is a down right LIAR!!!! He lost in a loser leaves town match to never post here again!!!!

You would have thought that he at least change his screen name on the basis of all the wrong opinions that he has posted all year long, let alone the promise he made on the gameday thread of Kansas City

You are just a troll Kobe. Like most trolls though you got what you wanted though as everyone on this site knows who you are. Even if you are considered the least informed and worst poster on JBF, you are getting attention from it. Sorry for whatever hardships you have suffered in life that makes you want this kind of attention.

Spence has admitted to using better technique, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that he’s doing more and better film study. In order to protect his shoulder, he’s watching film, learning tendencies, reading lineman. Combined with his athletic talent, there lessons should really help him BEAST. However, Spence’s toughness CANNOT go understated. The Bucs have had tons of uber talented players but guys that love football find ways on the field. Spence certainly looks like a keeper and a core player going forward.

As much as I dislike a lot what Kobe says. He’s not wrong about Bosa, the guy is a man beast. It’s why even with his character issues he was selected where he was by the Chargers. He is a special talent. He didn’t have any training camp, then when the season started he pulled his hammy. 5 games later he is starting and raking in sacks. The kids talent is undeniable. And if he keeps his nose to the grind stone and off the booger sugar, he could be a HOF type player. His character, not his talent, will be the only thing in his way.

As for Spence he was the best pass rusher in the draft. His pass rush talent is better than Bosa. Bosa is a better all around DE, and physical specimen. But spence has the size and speed combo to be an excellent pass rusher. He will never be a great run stuffer, an she doesn’t need to be. Do not sacrifice his speed for more power/weight. Stay the shape he is and become decent against the run, and elite Rushing the passer.

  13. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Ok I’ve watched plenty of Bosa tape, and i’ll admit that he is a physical specimen, but by no means does the tape scream future hall of famer. And to try and slap that brand onto a rookie is downright dumb in my opinion. Go back and watch the tape of Noah Spence at OSU. They were on the same line together, and you’ll barely even notice Bosa. As it stands now, Spence has 5.5 sacks, 1 more than Bosa. 3 forced fumbles, Bosa has 1, and Noah has 1 batted pass to Bosa’s 0.

The only categories Bosa leads in are tackles, and run plays stuffed.

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Spence was on my wishlist, but I don’t think he’s doing that ‘great’.

I would say he’s progressing well…not great. Yes, he might lead the rookies right now…but that really means little. Rookies are notoriously average in their first year (except for the really great ones, which he isn’t…yet).

I’m satisfied with his progression, but I also have concerns that he almost went on IR and that he might end up needing surgery in the off season, setting him back so he can’t play in the beginning of next season.

  15. Blake_bucsfan Says:

So Spence is more impactful against the pass while Bosa is better defending the run. Here’s the kicker tho, We have a DE that is dominant against the run already, Will Gholston has 16 more tackles than Bosa, only 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and more runs stuffed.

I’ll take Spence for this Bucs team everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.

Now, in the immortal words of Jaboo, Lets get dat W.

  16. Tnew Says:

After d smith handles bosa, then we can talk anout HOF.

  17. Bucsfan951 Says:

    Yay Kobe is back!

  18. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Bucsfan951

    kobe liar never left!!!!!

  19. The bucfan 88 Says:

TBH bosa played well against the Texans there not a good football team this season he played against the dolphins and he was doing nothing I’m not the bit impressed spence played against some of the best and got to the QB look at the tape Noah may not got the sack but he generated pressure bosa has one good game and he a HOF I think u need to give him two more season he’s not there yet bosa to me is lazy I’m just being honest but I’ll give him time

  20. BigHogHaynes Says:

Hey…..I thought I was the worst poster on JBF (was prideful of that), we won at home last week against a somewhat depleted SEAHAWKS team, today we need to go out west and take a win from the SD CHARGERS, this team isn’t depleted, this team will show us where we are…..are we a play/off team or are we an up and coming team, we still need to continue to add talented players to this team ie: R RUSSELL…. GO BUCS GO BUCS GO BUCS! O’ yea Tandy do you want a starting job? Answer the question with your play !! I’m watching you!!

  21. Trubucfan22 Says:

Both are good/potentially great players. As I said, Bosa is more well rounded, while spence is a pass rush specialist. I prefer to have the pass rush specialist. I want the next 20 sack guy on our team. I doubt Spence will ever get to that elite mile stone, but he has a better chance than Bosa, Bosa has different strengths, and his value as a well rounded player is probably higher than that of spence. TBH HOF voters look for the well rounded DEs, pass rush specialist have had a hard time getting in.
