Koetter Says Jameis Manages “Pissed” Koetter

Heartfelt stuff from Dirk Koetter after today’s thrilling victory.

Asked on the Buccaneers Radio Network about America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, finding a way to complete 20-for-30 passes and lead the winning touchdown drive, Koetter went big picture rather than talk about the plays Jameis made.

“The thing about Jameis is he’s resilient, and no matter how things are going, he’s always upbeat,” Koetter said. “Everybody could be down on the sideline, and Jameis is still the leader of the pack, believing we’re going to find a way.

“I can get pissed at him at times and, you know, yell at him. And he’ll look at me and say,Β ‘Alright, Coach. We’ll get it. We’ll get it.’ Jameis is a special, special kid and we’re lucky to have him.”

There was a lot of feeling and love in Koetter’s voice.

It’s a quarterback-driven league and the Bucs have a top-tier gunslinger and leader.

Sophomore slump? Pfffft.

“Jameis is a special, special kid and we’re lucky to have him.” – Dirk Koetter

Remember THAT you last remaining doubters.

Jameis WON’T stop until he holds that Lombardi in victory. Through leadership, talent or skill.

  2. BucsFan90 Says:

Blessed to have him. Jameis is the future of this team

  3. Stu Says:

Or 4 of them…Lombardi trophies that is.

  4. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Remember the original Rocky when the old Burgess Meredith character the crusty old trainer begs for the chance to work with Rocky because of the history.

Koetter has been around the game at many levels and knows the real deal when he sees it. It didn’t take long in training camp last year before #3 won DK over.

DK realizes he’s like Colonel Parker…a chance to manage Elvis!!! #3’s do not come along that often and I think DK is very clearly aware of his opportunity to work with a potential HOF QB. When Koetter said that #3 played the best QB he had ever seen that KC game he wasn’t spouting hyperbole. He’s saying #3 is playing like the very best and if he keeps it up we’re all going to be witness to something special. DK would like to witness it up close from the sideline. Who can blame him? He’s a smart man.

Some of y’all are a little apprehensive and that’s okay, but understand something is happening whether you wanna accept it or not. Crazy thing is this just the beginning.

    PRIMETIME HERE WE COME BABY!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Buc1987 Says:

BTW..I no longer pinch myself that JW is our QB. I get it now, and FULLY embrace it. Sure I was all in on this kid, but we’ve never had a franchise QB play for the Bucs. A real one. JF showed flashes had the will, but lacked the want to.

Jameis has the will and the want to, to win 10 Super Bowls. I know it’s hard to embrace as a Bucs fan. I know, I get it. He’s it though, so enjoy the ride. I know I will, even though the journey has only begun.

  13. cmurda Says:

    NOSBOS,

Yes it is and us die hards definitely deserve it. It has been tough sledding for about a decade now. #3 is everything I thought he would be when I was riding the Winston train before we drafted him.

  14. 1999Bucsfan Says:

I didn’t know until just now but they flexed our Dallas game to Sunday Night!! We’re getting our respect FINALLY!!!!! GO BUCS!!!

He’s only 22 people. Wow, just wow!!!

  17. Vincente Says:

    Sunday night football baby!!!!

  18. Biggun Says:

A legend in the making… we deserve this and thanks Lovie for sacking some games for this guy!

  19. tval Says:

Couldnt be happier for bucs and jameis fans. Didnt take too long to prove the doubters wrong, did it?? 😝😝😝😝😝😝

  20. tval Says:

Such a great trial run for playoffs

  21. Tampa Tony Says:

If Jameis could get the turnovers under control and Licht gave him a few more weapons this team could be truly dangerous

  22. Billy Buc N Brazil Says:

This team right now with Freddie Martino is a truly dangerous contender.!!

  23. Brion Says:

He’s …still…just a “play action” guy right now tho, right? I mean he isn’t’ top tier. He just cleaned up his turnover ratio.

  24. ndog Says:

Joe please remind your friend Steve when you do your show with him that he said he was done with JW just 5 weeks ago. Since he thinks he knows everything just give him a little reminder of how clueless he really is.

  25. Tampa Tony Says:

    @Brion

How so? Jameis has at least 1 turnover in every game except two…

  26. Buc1987 Says:

Tampa Tony expects turnover free football from the QB position or said QB is no good.

That’s my take on Tampa Tony over the last MONTH.

    That’s a fact.

  27. Buc1987 Says:

    Go ef yourself btw.

    Is your last name Kinsman?

  28. Buc1987 Says:

    Clean up what turnovers?

Call it like you see it. YOU unfortunately do not.

You have been undeniably anti-Winston from the get go and expect so much more from him. No not expect…but DEMAND. So just call it like you see it, or how most of us see your posts….Winston did something wrong with that girl at FSU and has still has lot’s to prove on the Field.

Yes that’s the way I take it. Cause ya know why? Your CONSTANT negative critique in the face of most Bucs fans joy over JW.

So again. Go ef yourself, continue to shrug and sigh over the fact he’s on YOUR team.

See this has nothing to do with me being a Nole and everything to do with reading your past posts. You’re a hater. You hate this kid. I know this, cause I’ve dealt with your ilk pre-draft. Keep it up though, as it should be a fun sidebar to read your posts as Jameis develops into an elite QB in the NFL for the Bucs.

A heartfelt welcome back to my favorite fair-weather Bucs fan NOS-BOS.
I hope the light outside your closet isn’t too bright. If it is just close your eyes……

    and wait on it.

    Go Bucs!

  30. chipbuc Says:

Tampa Tony only he could find a negative to harp on after a big win. Tampa Tony and Bucnut2 two aholes who are just haters!!!

  31. Tampa Tony Says:

@87- In a league where the games are so close turnovers can hurt you especially with a team with a very small margin of error. The elite and winning qbs protect the ball and give their teams a chance to win. I don’t expect perfection but there is gonna come a time when Jameis needs to protect the ball to win a game.

  32. Tampa Tony Says:

It’s not hate if it’s true.

Sorry you guys are so mentally soft (like Lovies teams) that you can’t take the criticism of our QB. And for the record I was Pro Winston when it was draft time. I’m still a fan of his I’m just eager for him to take his game up a notch and clean up the turnovers. It’s a valid criticism sorry the FSU nuthuggers can’t put aside silly college allegiances and see that he has an issue with ball security

  33. BuccaneEric75 Says:

TampaTony, he’s also set an NFL record for passing or rushing for a TD in EVERY game he has played to start a career. One would think with all of the bad QB play we’ve had over most of our history that you would be happy right now. Guess not.

  34. DelawareBucsfan Says:

Just ignore the creep guys. Jameis just led us to a hard fought victory today, so at the end of the day he found a way. Ignore the hate guys. The more you respond, the more he likes the attention. I hate his comments like everyone else, but right now, he has no legs to stand on and it probably kills him every minute of the day, so just let the guy self destruct slowly like he’s doing. It’s actually kind of funny and entertaining hahahaha

  35. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Dark Prescott only had 139 passing yards against the Vikings, but they won. I guarantee you that NOBODY on joecowboysfan.com is saying he should be benched. The grass is always greener, I guess.

  37. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Winston leads the league in QBR, while under pressure and in QBR on throws outside the pocket. He also leads the league in QBR on play action passes. Not bad for a 22 year old.

  38. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Winston also leads the league in the distance passes travel in the air. Dink and dunk, he is not.

  39. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Doosh, I’m not sure what you mean, but, okay.

  40. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Doosh, oh, I see. Dak Prescott. I reread it like 8 times before I realized it. lol

  41. Ed Says:

Loved Winston, Brate, McCoy, Hargreaves, Martino, Evans, Ayers, Hump and Tandy today, they all balled.

Great win, so good to see the Bucs putting it all out there.

Very unhappy that officials did not penalize the hit on Humphries and Shorts. Both were unnecessary roughness.

  42. Shane Says:

I think we can beat the Cowboys ………..

  43. SeanyMac in SC Says:

We can thank Lovie for four things:
    1 – two dreadful seasons (2-14)(6-10)
    2 – got Jamies Winston
    3 – got Jason Licht
    4 – got Dirk Kotter

Nothing fair-weather about NoSBoS. When the season started, he was hounded off here by the yahoos/haters cos of the losses. He’s our lucky charm, and I for one, am glad he’s back. Go Mighty Bucs!!

  45. David Rogers Says:

Turnovers hurt, but the ability to score at the end of a half and at the end of games means the difference between W and Ls. The teams are so close these days, it’s the most important trait in a QB.
