Calling Roddy White

December 4th, 2016
Call him.

Call him.

Former Falcons have found home in Tampa Bay since Dirk Koetter has been around.

Last year it was Joe Hawley. This year it has been Jacquizz Rodgers, Brent Grimes and Antone Smith. Josh Huff has a background with Koetter, too, from a past Senior Bowl, and Cecil Shorts played for him in Jacksonville.

Could Roddy White be far behind?

One reason Koetter has brought in guys he knows is that they know his offense to various degrees, more or less. To bring in a guy cold off the street, it would take weeks sometimes to learn the full playbook. That learning curve is either non-existent or limited with guys who have a background with Koetter’s offense.

Now after today seeing Shorts go down today with what sure looked like a season-ending knee injury, and to see Adam Humphries suffer a concussion — who knows how long he will be out — could Koetter all one of his best receivers who has been out of football since last year?

One reason White never signed with an NFL team is he made it perfectly clear he was only interested in signing with a team who had a shot at a Super Bowl. Now Joe is not saying the Bucs are Super Bowl-bound — take it easy! — but damn, wouldn’t White be interested in an easy paycheck and perhaps a playoff team, rather than having his wife nag him why the revenue just got shut off?

A few weeks ago, the Bucs were not even a drunken thought of a playoff team. Now, they are serious contenders.

With the Bucs scraping the barrel for a wide receiver in a push for the playoffs, why not call White who has playoff experience playing for Koetter?

Um. He’s been on the couch and might not be in good enough shape to really contribute in time…. we need a guy for next week…

  2. JonBuc Says:

    Josh Huff…’nuf said. 🙂

  3. feelthepewterpower Says:

I’d rather bring back Kenny Bell, frankly 😉

  4. Billy Buc N Brazil Says:

    I agree 100%!!! Why not!!

  5. walkergodeep Says:

    He’s not family.

  6. Stpetebucsfan Says:

I know this sounds crazy and isn’t all that comforting, but Freddie Martino keeps backing it up with catch after catch. Same for Cameron Brate. I think we’ve accepted Brate as a legitimate target at long last…get used to hearing the name Martino.

I gotta say one thing for the kid…he absolutely does not seem over awed by the big stage at all…he looks right at home.

I sense that his attitude has perhaps as much to do with White not being here as his play on the field. Even if he was signed tomorrow, im not sure how much of a factor he would be, not having played football in so long.
There must a reason behind not wanting to sign RW, (does anyone have any insight information ?) they didn’t sign him after v-jax went down im not so sure they will sign him at this point in the season.

In other news, I don’t know if anyone has said this yet, but I saw that the Bucs-Cowboys game will be on Sunday Night Football. That’s what I saw on my NFL Mobile App.

  9. Chris Says:

Doubt it. Have Huff, assuming he’s healthy, and Dye on the PS and let’s hope hump will be ok

  10. Stu Says:

When is the earliest they could re-sign Louis Murphy?

  11. JMicSoundsNice Says:

We actually have a QB that’s making players better, Joe. Or is your championing of America a fallacy? #Americaisgreatnow

  12. tmaxcon Says:

    Louis Murphy lol hilarious….

  13. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Josh huff will most likely play this week. And he has that Game Braking speed we have been looking for.

  14. Dooshlarue Says:

    St. Pete

I don’t think Joe is fond of players that haven’t already made a name for themselves.
I think he prefers the warm fuzzy feeling of a player with shimmery past production stats.
I mean, how can you possibly sleep knowing you don’t have another big name WR on your roster?

You really think a guy that was singing in a velvet room can be a quality pro player?
Next you’re gonna tell me that a guy from Hobart College can be a beastly lineman.

    Next man up please.
    Go Bucs!

  15. firethecannons Says:

Let us please take a pass on outta shape Roddy white. Martino, and Shepherd are players, Josh Huff, Charles Sims should be back soon too.

  16. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Would love to sign micheal floyd this offseason. Budget low risk high reward kind of signing

  17. Getaclue Says:

I wouldn’t mind seeing Simms in the slot

  18. James Walker Says:

    Shepard.

  19. Magic Marpet Says:

walkergodeep, “he’s not family” that’s pretty good. Haha. I’m not opposed to the idea though. I wanted him in the offseason, right after boldin. We should have signed boldin.

  20. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    Getaclue

Bingo. Sims can succeed in the slot. I’m not sure he’s not better suited as a hybrid slot player than an RB anyway. Again I always think Lennie Moore but ya gotta be real old to remember him. RB/WR combo for the Colts..great combo with Johnny U.

  21. Magic Marpet Says:

At least have him in for a workout

  22. Waterboy Says:

Roddy White is a Falcon. Even though he’s not officially on the team they showed a clip of him sitting in the press box at one of the Falcons games this season so that tells me that’s where his heart is at so leave him there.

Like I’ve been saying for 2 years he’s our best slot receiver.

Check the date fellas. Check the date.

  24. Chucklehead Says:

Martino has stepped up big time. Shep is there, but what happens if one of them go down. No guarantees Hump is cleared to play next week. I think we need to make a move. Just not sure White is the guy to call.

  25. Capt. Blighe Says:

And start Rodgers at RB !!

  26. Ga. Buc fan 40 years Says:

In Kotter We Trust !! Hey JOE I want to see that confidence poll this week.

  27. Ga. Buc fan 40 years Says:

Sorry Dirk I’ll learn to spell one day. ( KOETTER )

  28. BuccaneerByBirth Says:

I say give Simms a try at slot. Also, its time for Huff to come up. I think Stocker and Humph are both fine (besides concussion protocol) But Shorts’ CAREER might be over after that injury.

  29. cmurda Says:

I was all about Rowdy when V Jax went down but there’s a reason Koetter and Licht didn’t get something done. Like some have said, it’s about time to get Huff returning kicks and see his impact at receiver. I stay the course as is and activate Huff.

  30. webster Says:

White is old and washed up. Let the youngs guys continue to grow with Winston. These are valuable reps for young guys in the playoff chase both now and for the future. White has had his day and it is over evident by the fact no other contender has signed him. I will be glad when joe stop bringing up this absurd thought. The next man up mentality is alive and well with this bucs team. They embrace it and i think its time the joes did too.

  31. nate12345 Says:

    can vincent jackson come back:?

  32. Joe Says:

    can vincent jackson come back:?

Unlikely. Bucs can only bring one more player back from IR and it appears it is Charles Sims.

  33. Jeagan1999 Says:

Hate to see anyone go down, and Shorts has begun to step it up…but I’m more worried about Adam Humphries at this point. Martino and Sheppard have played well….and we will need to add another guy just in case….but with Sims coming back, Evans and Brate already playing fantastic ball this season, we need our slot guy/punt returner back!

    Get well soon Adam!

  34. Pete Mitchell Says:

I’m curious to see if Shep becomes the man on those little tunnel screens. He is an elite athlete. Tunnel Screen = the new Bennd-around.

  35. James Washington Says:

Why on earth would anyone want Vincent back? The guy has done nothing since Jameis was drafted. He was just a shell out there and didn’t contribute. There were games this year everyone’s jersey was dirty and filthy and his was pure white at the end of games.

  36. Owlykat Says:

▼Bell is Worthless Except For Underwear Football
Don’t forget we have Shepherd who is tough as nails with all his Special Teams experience and faster than any of our other receivers and has great hands. He just needs more starting WR reps. He is also tall too. And we have Huff who is explosive and knows our playbook. Don’t waste any more time on useless Bell! Shepard should be our number two WR next year. We can get another ST player cheap off the streets.
