Koetter Addresses “Carryover” Theory

December 26th, 2016

Joe bows to the old school wisdom and analysis of Dirk Koetter.

What a fun, to-the-point guy. No baloney.

Asked about the mysterious “carryover” theory spouted by fans, media and other head coaches, Koetter sort of scoffed at the notion during his afternoon news conference today.

This made Joe laugh, considering Lovie Smith was blubbering last December about how the Bucs, in their final two games of 2015, were really playing with a clean slate while starting the 2016 campaign. A new year was starting in late December, Lovie said, and the Bucs had a chance to carryover a winning mindset and results into the following season.

Today, Koetter talked about how teams have lots of roster turnover from year to year and asked rhetorically about the defending AFC champion Broncos, “How did that Super Bowl win carry over for them?”

Bravo, Coach! Beautiful response.

The Bucs’ 0-4 stain to close 2015 didn’t carry over to this season. Koetter had his team ready and raring to go in their opening-day win against the Falcons in Atlanta.

Joe believes a small percentage of teams do take a good vibe and confidence into the next season. But it is rare. Joe thinks the 2010 Bucs, after winning two of their final three in the dreadful 2009 season, would be an example.

That team needed a small taste of victory to progress. The current Bucs aren’t in that boat entering Sunday’s game against the Panthers.

DK was talking about the Broncos, not the Panthers, but point well taken.

First, Joe celebrated his love affair with the GM by crafting a beer in his honor. I’m sure a JBF Koetter Kabernet is soon in the offing.

The Bucs should use week 17 to experiment. Put Dirk back up into the booth so he can see the field and perhaps call the games better than you average middle school head coach, leave Mike Smith up there too and make Winston the sideline HC.

I know this is crazy and most fans will disagree….but if all of you believe that players play better in contract years…then our best chance of winning is to start Glennon. There isn’t anyone on the team that has more to play for than Mike. What a parting gift to Glennon or a curse…..depends on Mike.
While we are at it, we can play Conte, Tandy, Myers, Evan Smith, Jaquizz and others who have really something to play for.

Rod…… Idk where you came from but please take your ignorance back to wherever it was. Dirk was never up in the booth last year or when he was with the falcons.

Your @$$ must be real jealous of the $h!+ that comes out of your mouth.

    Kabernet..lmfao!!!!

I’d like to see Peyton Barber get some carries this week.

  8. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

This is why I say if you can’t WIN in the playoffs, you should not go to the playoffs and hurt your draft position.

  9. JonBuc Says:

This team doesn’t deserve to be in the playoffs. The Dallas loss was understandable…losing to the Saints proves they are unworthy. They sure got out hopes up though…didn’t they?!

  10. yrbndr Says:

To the haters, you couldn’t wait for the Saints loss. You aren;t fans, go back in your hole! This team and season has so much to be excited about! Go Bucs!

Dirk is calling the plays that he thinks give us the best chance to win. That’s his job,and the bucs have tried rollouts and other plays on first down occasionally and they weren’t that successful either. Can’t run play action without a better run game and all good coaches will keep trying to establish it.
koetter has kind of been let down by Martin’s production this year.
