Hey, Donovan Smith haters. Where was 10-sack man and perennial stud Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril last week?
The fact is Avril and his beastly ways were invisible.
You can thank left tackle Donovan Smith a lot for that.
Speaking on his Buccaneers Radio Network this week, Smith was asked to give his up-close impression of the vaunted Seahawks defense.
“They’re good, but, you know, sometimes people don’t like getting hit in the mouth. And as we lined up, our motto was to go out there and, ‘Bully The Bully,'” Smith said. “Go out there and play lights out. The way were started the game, in terms of opening the lanes and everything, and you seen it in the run blocking and the pass [protection], that we were ready and excited for the challenge and the task at hand. … After a while you saw them slowly slow down and not be that defense anymore.”
Very cool stuff there. Joe wonders how the Pro Football Focus nerds who despise Smith grade bullying and imposing will?
Ali Marpet added on the show that Sunday was a “mindset game” for the offensive line, which set out to not just beat Seattle but to punish them. “To bring the hammer,” Marpet added.

All they have to do is show that they can maintain that “mindset”.

These 2 need to play alot better against speed rushers which they have problems with
*Bosa and Ingram is going to have 2 sacks each and cause 5 penalties from these two molasses smiley faces

To answer your question Joe, I believe the PFF tribe gave Donovan Smith a solid grade for the Seahawks game. They couldn’t deny his improved play anymore.

Anyone who has ever really watched D. Smith know that Avril is the kind of guys that he handles well. Bosa, is the kind of guy that D. Smith typically handles well. Ingram.. another story. KF, watch the tape, Bosa has never been confused for a speed rusher. He’s a high motor, high effort guy. Dotson is the guy we need to circle. Sure, smith has his bad games. Atlanta and Raiders come to mind, but he’s had enough to not get the criticism that he receives.

The Seattle players acted more like divas than bullies, and I absolutely love the attitude by the offensive linemen! They just need to maintain thei discipline and keep the penalties down.

As much as Licht earns the criticism, most notably for picking a kicker in the 2nd rd (terrible idea), you also have to give props where deserved. The Marpet, D Smith, VH3 picks ,just to name a few, were brilliant.
