Bucs Off The Hook For Martin’s Salary

Jason Licht will hear the free agency dinner bell loud and clear

A great fact has emerged in the wake of Doug Martin’s sad drug-related downfall.

Per ProFootballTalk.com, the Bucs no longer owe Martin a fat check of $7 million guaranteed next year. Martin’s four-game drug suspension nullifies that part of his contract.

Think Eric Wright.

[Martin will] also be one violation away from a 10-game suspension and two away from a banishment with the ability to apply for reinstatement after a year.

The announcement makes the team’s decision to not play him last weekend, and its intention not to play him this weekend, more understandable. It also means that the guarantees applicable to Martin’s 2017 salary have disappeared, making it easy for the team to avoid paying him $7 million next year.

Joe has no reason to think the Bucs will stand behind Martin if they don’t owe him any money. He may have a problem, but that still doesn’t excuse him being a bad teammate.

  1. Warthog Says:

    Poor Drug Martin 🙁

  2. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Good luck Dougie but that money can be used as bonus money for Dalvin.

  3. Todd Says:

Yep I see us going for dalvin now

  4. Philip Says:

Is martin a candidate to be released and resigned to a cheaper contract?

  5. Fred E. Buc Says:

Well, this explains a lot. It explains why he seemed so recluse. Clearly he’s having either a drug issue or a pain issue. Clearly the Bucs don’t want to saddle the fact he’d miss the first three games next year…can’t have that. So I hope they lock of Quizz Rodgers, keep Barber, and maybe sign another guy in free agency. I’m not hot on keeping Sims…he is always injured…moreso than Martin, and sucks running up the middle.

  6. NewTampaChris Says:

I hope he gets help but as a fan, my main concern is the team. This is just another hole to plug, especially in the category of “weapons for Jameis.”

  7. Chris Says:

Nole I stand corrected I think you’re right. Cook and if he’s gone Fournette

  8. Chris Says:

No way do we hand the ball to Rodgers for 16 games next year

  9. Chris Says:

Unless Kotter finds a Julio Jones type wr in this draft

  10. BucDaddy82 Says:

    Dalvin Cook or Christian McCaffrey

  11. Rod Munch Says:

Yeah – so the Bucs go from having the most money in the league this offseason, to having even more of the most money…

I mean there isn’t hardly anyone worth signing since 28 teams have more than $15-mil in cap space and only 4 teams are in cap trouble, but still, the Bucs will have the most this year and can carry it over and have the most again next year after having the 2nd most last year. Evans will get his big contract, so that will cut into everything, as will Kwon, but those are still in the future – for now the Bucs will actually have problem getting to the salary floor.

  12. Fred E. Buc Says:

From a position of strength to one of need now. Not good. The Bucs need help now at WR, S (X2), DE (X2), LG and probably CB and TE, and now perhaps RB. Seven positions so going to dip back into free agency where we get burned repeatedly and the draft. I’d rather bring in a seasoned S, DE, and CB and draft WR, S, LG, DE. TE and DE have some latitude depending on when/if Brate comes back and what they do with H. Jones, J. Smith, etc. Too bad we’re digging out of a hole again…but that’s a problem we’ve had to overcome before.

  13. Buc believer Says:

@warthog….. poor Doug Martin? are you freekin serious????? dude makes 7 million per year and cant stay away from dope? The guy is a moron! if you want to get high do so in a year or two after football then get wasted. What an idiot!

  14. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    BucDaddy

Don’t know if we could pull it off but I’ll give you this…I think Dalvin Cook and Christian McCaffrey are both better backs than Doug.

  15. dee Says:

Now we have to draft rb

  16. Ocala Says:

We hopefully will have an opportunity to draft Fournette or Cook

Either would dramatically improve our offense

I’m very confident Doug Martin wil be released in the offseason

  17. Jameisbucsfan Says:

    In Dalvin we trust.

  18. Patrick in VA Says:

I’m all for them helping the guy get help and I’m sure that on a personal level every one in the facility will be there for him, but he let his demons hinder the team’s season. We could have done a lot of damage with a solid running game. He put himself first there, so it’s hard to have much sympathy in terms of whether they give him the money.

If he were to be cut from the team and then brought back at a much lower “prove it” type of contract, I’d be happy to have him back and playing angry like he was last year.

  19. Ocala Says:

Thankfully the Bucs have the most cap space in the NFL for 2017

  20. Patrick in VA Says:

Between dropping VJax, Martin, Verner, and Sweezey’s contracts we should be able to get pretty wild in free agency.

  21. Trubucfan22 Says:

I would like the bucs to give him a second chance. Resign him to a more team friendly deal. Deal with the suspension, have quizz and sims still to fill in. If Martin doesnt return to his former glory then replace him in 2018. We do not need to draft a RB high in next years draft. That would a colossal mistake. Not when we need O line upgrades at 4 of the 5 positions. No RB can run behind a weak o line. Fix the o line first.

RB should be the last position we think about drafting early. You can find talented RBs late in the draft.

  22. Warthog Says:

Lol Buc believer … you missed the bit where I called him Drug Martin lmao

  23. Trubucfan22 Says:

You people are crazy for wanting to waste a first round pick on a RB.

  24. NewTampaChris Says:

The Cowboys had already invested in their O-Line so spending a #4 overall pick on Elliott made sense. Not sure it does with the Bucs. Depending on the draft board, I lean to O-line & WR high in the draft, RB in the 4th/5th round, and look to spend lots of free agency cash on defense and at WR. Speed, please.

  25. unbelievable Says:

TruBuc and NewTampaChris have it right.

1st round pick on RB is simply a luxury we don’t have right now. OL, DL are much much more important, plus we badly need a WR and S. Some of those could be dealt w/ in free agency but honestly there’s not a whole lot of good players available this offseason.

  26. NJBucsFan Says:

Latavious muarry is a FA…no need to use a 1st Rd pick on RB

  27. Lord Cornelius Says:

Damn. I never saw this coming honestly – Doug always seemed like a good dude off the field with his head on straight but you never know with drugs.

It may explain why he was bad this year – because I thought his problems were always more mental than physical. Miss timing runs / missing holes he should hit / not taking the proper approach always / etc are all mental; and all the things that I noticed in his game that declined this year for whatever reason.

Run blocking was still bad; but in a weird way it’s always exciting to think about a shiny new RB toy. It’ll have to come in the draft looking at next years’ free agents.

In FA we can probably add:

1-2 O-lineman. Either premiere G or T; and another depth signing. Should be decent options available.

1-2 WRs – Not sure I’m a fan of Jeffery or not. Just scared he’ll never be dependable. I’d like to grab a guy like Kamar Aiken / Kendall Wright / Terelle Pryor – guys who can be #2 or #3 WRs. Then get Cordarelle Patterson as your 4th or 5th WR / KR specialist

1 CB – I wouldn’t mind spending some cash to get a guy like Stephon Gilmore – he’ll likely be a top 5 CB contract but if we locked him up we don’t have to worry about our 2 starting corners for like 5 years. Trumaine Johnson may also be available.

1-2 D-lineman – Jabaal Sheard / JPP – one of those at DE, and Dontari Poe DT. We need more quality players since our DTs suck when McCoy & McDonald get hurt.

That’s probably about it. I don’t like the safeties in Free agency or the RBs. If we signed all those people we could go BPA between RB/WR/S rounds 1-3; and then draft O-line & D-line in the later rounds to develop. COuld also go O-line if the right value is there early

  28. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

    Amen Pat.

  29. Aubpierce Says:

I hope Doug invested in the stock market. I doubt he will be back.

  30. Cobraboy Says:

I’d like him back on another “prove it” contract.

    The guy can play.

The questions about “what’s wrong with Doug Martin” have now been answered.

I wish the guy well dealing with his demons.

Didn’t Sapp also have some drug issues?

  31. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Thank you for thst chart Lord, these bright guys act as if all team needs will come from the draft. Welcome to Tampa Dalvin Cook.

  32. Shadow man Says:

No chance we take cook. I don’t even want him. Good college guy. Likes to fumble at the 1 when no one is near him. We don’t need that type of crap

  33. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

    Welcome to Tampa Dalvin Cook.

  34. Doctor Stroud Says:

I wish him the best and hope that he recovers from this, but the observation that he let down himself, his teammates, and fans alike is exactly right. A follow up question to him should be: how did this impact his performance against Dallas? The Bucs were on the verge of making the playoffs.

  35. Ndog Says:

Draft o and d lineman for the entire draft and use the free agent dollars on a number 2 speed receiver, a saftey, a corner and a return man. We need to start to dominate up front. I think D Smith and Marpet are average to above average everyone else can/should be replaced. On the dline as we all know McCoy is good but not special the rest are all specialist playes only good at rushing the qb or run stuffing. So we could use 3 new starters on the dline. This is how we need to improve as we cannot have the ball shoved down our throat again on d and we NEED to be able to show run on 3rd and 1 and actually have a chance to get it.

  36. Buc believer Says:

@warhog….. oh yes i see it now my apologies. i was just lighting up a fat one and dropping a hit at the time i read it! lol

  37. Ndog Says:

WE NEED TO START DOMINATING THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE! Anyone can run behind a dominate oline. Just imagine if Marpet and Smith were our worst lineman!

  38. tmaxcon Says:

    Oline

    WR

    RB

  39. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Trubucfan22 Says
“You people are crazy for wanting to waste a first round pick on a RB.”

Exactly. We should not take a RB before the 4th round…if at all. There will be guys in free agency.

The two lines and WR are the most important positions.

Btw…everyone is assuming that the Bucs will walk away from Martin, or that they will not pay him. That doesn’t mean they will do either.

And Mike Florio has been wrong many times.

  40. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    tmaxcon Says
    “Oline
    WR
    RB”

    Correction:

    Dline
    Oline
    WR

    RB in free agency

  41. Bob in valrico Says:

surprising that Doug get involved with adderahl after it led to Freeman’s
downward spiral. The team probably wishes him well. But Doug did hold the team over a barrel on his contract.Doug was prepared to sign with another team if he didn’t get a big contract. So,I would not be surprised if the team parts ways with Doug.Hope he follows through on his statement.

  42. Shadow man Says:

We have a problem if a d3 product is our best linemen. Get a tackle in Fa and draft a center and guard in the first four rounds.

And please for the love of god do not sign Jeffrey or Pryor. Both are trash

  43. Rob Says:

O line in Rd 1. Period. Cook will be gone already and even if he is there a stud o line guy will be more useful for yrs to come. Protect Jamis. He needs more time. O line plz jason

  44. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Cook is maybe there for us in the 1st round. McCaffrey is a 2nd round guy.

  45. Spartin Says:

They are not going to cut him. They are building a family atmosphere and like any family, you support the ones with issues. Joe is negative about a lot of things. The young man made a mistake, stop acting like you all are perfect and get over yourselves!

  46. Kobe Faker Says:

kobe wants a offensive playcaller…no matter what round

  47. Mojiska Says:

Maybe last week’s benching was to try and negotiate down to the 2 game ban served at the end of the this season. Resign to a prove it deal. Win win.

  48. Patrick in VA Says:

So, here’s an idea. We’ve got a truckload of FA money to spend. Would it be the worst idea to beef up the o line and pick up Adrian Peterson in FA? We could get two good years out of him while we’re building up the line and developing a mid round RB behind him.

  49. Shadow man Says:

Kobe why are you even alive still? Go away. Dirk is our coach much to your chagrin but he’s not going anywhere. Sometimes we wish you were the one getting busted for coke

  50. Cobraboy Says:

Don’t forget Kwon Alexander got a 4-game hook for such violation?

    He came back pretty strong.

  51. PABucsFan Says:

We DONT need a 1st round running back people. We need an O-line and S in the first round I believe. If Jamaal Adams is available I would choose him, if not draft Corey Davis at WR. As far as I can see, there is no tackle worthy of a top ten pick, because the the class is weak this year. RB is strong and deep this year, perhaps picking up Dont’a from Texas at RB would be a smart choice. Draft High IQ and versatile. Picking up a S is key and more young, hungry DBs.

  52. PABucsFan Says:

If Pat Eifert from Ohio State is available in the 2nd that could be a worth while move

  53. tmaxcon Says:

    Spartin

All that family BS is meaningless if don’t win. Martin screwed the fans and his teammates therefore screw him. Talented football players win games not feel good family BS

  54. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Here’s what I wanna know from you “fix the O line folks”. #1 where was that sentiment after 2015 when a sober DM and Charles Sims lead the entire league in combined rush yardage. #2 submit some names of who you speak of that you wish for Licht to draft. Who are this years Tunsil and Stanley.

  55. Spartin Says:

Yup, he directly bent you over and gave you the weeny. Stop crying, Jameis Winston is the one that leads the family hype huddle. We all see it before every game. They wont cut him, they’ll renegotiate that 7 million and use it other places. Hopefully O-Line.

  56. stopthemadness Says:

First round picks are generally a gamble when you take a RB. Cook is the real deal though. Not just by the stats, he’s the best running back I’ve ever seen play for the Noles. He’s special.

  57. Defense Rules Says:

Spartin, the Bucs won’t cut Martin because he got into drugs. They’ll cut him because he was an ineffective RB … the drug suspension just gave them an out. Lots of very good RBs available in FA & the draft, for a lot less than $7 mil a year and who won’t be on suspension for the 1st 3 games of 2017. I like Doug Martin too and I hope he gets help, but the Bucs need to improve their running game if they expect to contend for anything next year. And yes that means improving the talent level in the RB group AND the OLine.

  58. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

All you defense people keep dreaming. Koetter’s a offensive who’s griping about Fameis not having enough weaponry to work with right now. Don’t hold your breath on defensive players this draft. We kinda did that last draft.. Remeber.

  59. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

@ NOSBOS I am in the “WEAPONS” category for the 1st round. But the c/g from LSU is a mid 2nd the c/g from Ohio state pat elflen is a early 2nd Indiana C/RT us a mid to late 2nd.

  60. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    @ NOSBOS
I think Cook can and will thrive behind ANY line. FSU o line wasn’t very good @ all, and the defence knew what was coming but they couldn’t stop Cook. I am firmly in the draft Cook Camp now.
    #DRAFTCOOK

  61. PABucsFan Says:

Can we get out of the mindset that “all Noles are great?” I get that is where Jameis is from but Aguayo isn’t looking too hot. Bryant was much better this season. If he can prove himself these next years then perhaps, but to Aggie Cook is the best RB in the class is absurd. His vision needs work and ball security has been a problem. Not worthy of our first round pick. We have bigger holes.

  62. Bucnut2 Says:

PLEASE NO more over-hyped under-performing NOLES. We already have one!! Don’t need another

  63. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

If J.R Sleezy is healthy we may only need a C, or RT? Sweezy @ RG Pamphile @ LG Or RT? Marpet @ C or LG or RG? We can do some shuffling and this line can be a GREAT run blocking unit. D Smith is naturally a run blocker (maybe RT?) Sleezy is a GREAT run blocker. And all we need is to establish the run and our Play action pass will do the rest

  64. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Their are actually people out there that feel we should draft a D linemen with our first pick. Are you kidding me.

  65. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Shut up sucnutz

  66. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

bucnut ya daddy under performed when he made yo whack @$$.

  67. Buc1987 Says:

    No worries.

lightningbuc said he’d gladly pay his salary for the Bucs.

  68. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

I feel you GOAT. These folks making me scratch all my hair out wit some of these first round proposals bro.

  69. buccfan305 Says:

Damn I never would have known Dougie was a Druggie. Must be pretty bad to loose 7 mil next year just to get Hi. Hope he gets the help he needs.

  70. Mike Johnson Says:

If I were martin, I’d insist on a trade once my recovery is complete. Cheap
a .. Bucs . Instead od assisting the man and providing help. we are already talking about not paying him. The guys only missing 2 games which we..were not going to win anywho’s!!! I bet another team would salivate at the bit to have Doug. He’d be another player on along list who left Tampa Bay and did well. I hope he leaves and Shines..elsewhere! Doug was playing ok. Hell, as we witnessed the last couple of weeks…when the holes are not there, the running back gets stuffed.

  71. Buc1987 Says:

I still want a WR or OL with the first round.

Cook can’t run if the hole’s not there.

On the other hand if they draft Dalvin at least Jameis can still run…for his life.

  72. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I know Cam Robinson has had his issues, but he’s a run blocking beast and underrated in pass protection. He’d bring some nasty to our “nice guy” offensive line. I’d like Cook or Williams too. Offensive players, please.

  73. Cobraboy Says:

    Mike Evans GOAT Says:

If J.R Sleezy is healthy we may only need a C, or RT? Sweezy @ RG Pamphile @ LG Or RT? Marpet @ C or LG or RG? We can do some shuffling and this line can be a GREAT run blocking unit. D Smith is naturally a run blocker (maybe RT?) Sleezy is a GREAT run blocker. And all we need is to establish the run and our Play action pass will do the rest

I won’t be at all surprised if Marpet is moved to C because of his smarts and nastiness, and Sweezy goes to RG.

Dotson is going nowhere, and Benenoch (sp?) shows enough potential to contribute. Not sure about E. Smith or Hawley. Both may be used up. Hawley was a non-factor as the season went on, getting consistently blown into the backfield. E. Smith defines “meh”…

    Team needs some O-Line depth.

  74. Kobe Faker Says:

anybody have approx the new cap number?

that is a sh1t load of money to spend

we can really address alot of holes with that

this is going to be fun offseason

*I think wash could only pay for 1 reciever. would love either d jackson or p garson.

  75. BringBucsBack Says:

Good teams / scouts find good RB’s in the late rounds all the time. It’s been said and I agree, strengthen the O (and D) lines then, everyone can run behind it. Bring Martin, ‘Quizz & Mike James back and NEVER, EVER give Sims the ball in between the Tackles. That’s what Parcells would do!

Q: What is Doug’s guaranteed pay next season, if the Bucs bring him back?

  76. LakeLandBuc Says:

I think we should trade down and pick RB D’onta Foreman from Texas, we need a big back.

  77. LakeLandBuc Says:

Or better yet, try to get Foreman in the 2nd round.

  78. Kobe Faker Says:

    Le veon Bell

proven/ no guesswork if he can play

  79. Gencoimports Says:

If the Bucs cut Martin, I wouldn’t be surprised if Patriots snap him up 2 seconds later. They seem to have a habit of turning around the fortunes of ex-Bucs.

  80. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

FSU all time leading rusher but he can’t find holes 87??? Sound a little off your rocker bro.

  81. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Now we 😂 need big back. Freeman been rolling since joining Atlanta.

  82. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

See this is what y’all not understanding, its less about Cook being a RB and more about him being a special player. You go get those type why. They change games and evoke fear. See Julio Jones.

  83. T REX Says:

Go get someone that respect the Bucs. Doug was garbage 3/5 seasons. He stole money from the org. Time to make tough choices and move on. Doug screwed us not the other way around.

  84. Ocala Says:

The Bucs have $85.4MM in cap space available for 2017
Cowboys are in the worst shape at -$1.4MM

  85. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Anyone screaming WR and the name coming out your mouth not Mike Williams you’re sadly misinformed. John Ross my @$$ I bet he ain’t f@$!in Mike WilliWilliams.

  86. Real Buc Fan Says:

Mike Johnson why are the Bucs Cheap they just gave him a new contract. They seem to be assisting him they kept everything on the down low until the NFL and Martin released their statements. We don’t know what he failed it for but I don’t think you need to go to recovery for performance enhancing drugs. Maybe pain killers or recreational drugs. I wish Doug Martin the best and hope he gets help. But finding out he was hanging out with ASJ is a bit disturbing. I can’t blame this on the GM, coach or the Glazers this is on Doug Martin. Guess we need to just sit back and see how this plays out.

  87. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

See I ask for names GOAT stepped up to the plate and gave me some and ain’t even in “fix the wall crowd”. I wanna hear from some of y’all. And don’t bite off what GOAT said. Tell me names, who are O linemen we should draft.

  88. Real Buc Fan Says:

All I can say is with all the cap money we will have we need to be careful. To me free agency is like fools gold I very rarely works out for the big contract free agents.

  89. Real Buc Fan Says:

    ^it

  90. Tarzan Says:

Even if dalvin was there i hope they dont take him even as an fsu fan. Chances are corey davis or John ross are gonna be available. I think if McCaffrey is there at the start of the 2nd round they could go after him. Build from the line of scrimmage from both sides and keep building out. Safety, corner,wr etc.

  91. LakeLandBuc Says:

Nole….We could have had Devanta Freeman instead of Charles Sims. Foreman is similar to Mike Alstott and Legarrette Blount.

  92. K2 Says:

I wish Doug the best. I’m glade that the fans stay behind the coach…even before they knew the full story.

  93. LakeLandBuc Says:

John Ross in the 1st, D’Onta Foreman in the 2nd

  94. LakeLandBuc Says:

K2.. Doug could have fought his suspension and played Saturday and this Sunday.

  95. BUC_40 Says:

    Muscle Hamster… aka….Focus Hamster

  96. 808BUCS Says:

O-line should be our first priority! It all starts up front. Win the Trenches, Win the game. Simple as that.

  97. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

    Who is John Ross???

  98. BucDaddy82 Says:

Ryan Ramcyzk, OT, Wisconsin or Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame

  99. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Cobraboy Says
“Don’t forget Kwon Alexander got a 4-game hook for such violation?”

Wasn’t the same. Kwon drank Red Bull, which is on the banned list. He did it as a rookie before he knew better (one of the camps).

  100. Gencoimports Says:

    John Ross is either

    1) a WR for the Washington Huskies
    2) J.R. Ewing’s son on the series Dallas

Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says
“All you defense people keep dreaming. Koetter’s a offensive who’s griping about Fameis not having enough weaponry to work with right now. Don’t hold your breath on defensive players this draft.”

Unless he wants to keep Mike Smith around. And, lest we forget…the defense carries the team in Tampa.

  102. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    PABucsFan Says
    “…Aguayo isn’t looking too hot.”

    Oh yes he is…lately.

  103. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Mike Johnson Says
“If I were martin, I’d insist on a trade once my recovery is complete. Cheap
a .. Bucs . Instead od assisting the man and providing help. we are already talking about not paying him.”

First off, it is the media and fans who are talking this stuff, not the team. Secondly, it isn’t the responsibility of a team to take on the consequences of a players actions. Doug Martin made his choices, and he knew if he got caught he would pay a penalty. He still did it.

What I am wondering is if he was on drugs LAST YEAR in order to get his contract…in which case he deserves nothing at all.

  104. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Ocala Says
“The Bucs have $85.4MM in cap space available for 2017”

Is that accurate???? How did they manage that????

    Seems awfully high.

  105. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

And finally, this goes out to every college football fan here…

…college football sucks. Boring as heck, and the rules suck too.

There…now you can all focus your hate on one target and get along.

  106. BucDaddy82 Says:

Excessive attention seeking is not a character flaw. It is a brain wiring response to early developmental trauma caused by neglect

  107. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Bonzai I hear what you saying bro but man I’m looking at the saints young offensive talent. And falcons really loaded up when they added Gabriel. We can not stand by and rely on old tradition. We gotta load up at some point.

  108. Bucnut2 Says:

Nole- not sure that I have I eve heard more biased comments than yours. Take off your Garnnet colored glasses and look at the REAL world. YOUR QB leads the entire NFC in tunrovers!!

  109. Bucnut2 Says:

NOLE- not sure that I want you RB, your QB has been a HUGE flop

  110. Bucnut2 Says:

  111. Bucnut2 Says:

  112. Tom S. Says:

To the posters who are opposed to a RB in the first round I ask: Have you heard of Ezekiel Elliot?

And before someone says the o-line is garbage, all but one of the starters are around from 2014 when both the Drugernaut and Dancin’ Charles Sims managed 4.9 ypc each.

  113. Tom S. Says:

    *2015 not 2014.

  114. Kelvin Says:

Come on everyone! Who in the world are those OL prospects you all want to pick in the 1st RD? I have been surfing every respectable source for draft analysis and there is almost no one believing on an OL being a top 15 player outside the OT from Alabama (who btw has his own share of off field baggage).

Trade Down and grab BPA while we pick a 3rd and a 5th on the move. Only WR’s Jhon Ross and Corey Davis will be worth in the top 20. Had we finished with a top 10 selection S Jamal Adams is the pick. RB Foreman is the best fit at RB for us and we could get him right at the end of the 1st.

Be smart in free agency. There is some quality depth to be built with players like the C from the Titans and WR C. Patterson from the Vikings. RT and C are the most important positions to fix. Luckily this year’s Centers in the draft are good. 2nd rounders.

    Go Bucs!

  115. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    @sucnutz
You not accepting JW3 as Ur QB just reiterates why you should head on over to the Titans website. You Lovie lovin Mariota Maid. We don’t need or value your opinion here.

  116. MadMax Says:

Sign Adrian Peterson, work on the O line too (draft and free agency)

then draft Nick Chubb in the 3rd or 4th

  117. MadMax Says:

@Patrick in VA, bingo….just did a word search and saw your post.

How do you feel about Chubb?

  118. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Shouldn’t be AMAZED nut, just good quality common sense over here dude.

  119. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

See Tom S. when you hit’em wit facts like that they simply get the hush mouth.

  120. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

That is why all this “fix the O line” noise dose not resonate with me bro. Baloney I tell you.

  121. Charles Braxton Says:

    Adrian Peterson = Super Bowl

Adrian Peterson=Super Bowl JW+AP+ME New triplets

  123. Skipper Says:

Bunut your name suits you, you are f##king nuts. That FSU QB is why we won’t have a losing season for a change. Watch much college football? Dalvin Cook can take it to the house anytime he touches the ball, see anybody on our roster that can do that?

  124. Trubucfan22 Says:

Bonzai. Kwon did not drink red bull. Red bull is not banned in any sport. Blaming it on a “Energy drink” was a cop out and most likely a lie. Or maybe he mixed his PEDs in his red bull idk but a regular super market energy drink is not banned by the NFL.

  125. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Chubb is staying in school. Donta Forman in the 2nd? Idk If cook will be there where we pick in the 1st. If he is then by all means take cook.

  126. Cobraboy Says:

    Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Wasn’t the same. Kwon drank Red Bull, which is on the banned list. He did it as a rookie before he knew better (one of the camps).

You sure? Keep in mind that according to the CBA neither the team nor NFL can say much about the specifics of the failed test, so we have to take the word of the player.

Here is the list of banned substances by the NFL. I don’t know much about “energy drinks” and their ingredients, so perhaps you can point out which is in the Red Bull that Kwon supposedly ingested.

  127. MadMax Says:

So Chubb is staying, thatll improve his stock if he improves, which he should.

BTW, Im not getting all the hype on Myles Garrett! Maybe top 10, but first overall? He’s just not impressing me at all in this game. Chevis is doing a better job.

  128. LakeLandBuc Says:

Leonard Fournette and Dalvin Cook will be long gone when we pick.

  129. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Bucnut, just because you think Winston sucks, doesn’t mean that Cook won’t be great.

  131. Rod Munch Says:

Anyone thinking the Bucs should use a first round pick on a RB, I don’t think they get how the NFL works. The Bucs need two starting safeties, three corners, three WRs, a backup TE, a RT and now a RB.

For all the talk about the Bucs having by far the most money in the offseason, go look the FA list and tell me who you think the Bucs should drop big money on… then remind yourself that nearly every single team (28 of them) in the league will have upwards of $25-mil available if the cap goes up like it did last year.

There aren’t very many good FA’s out there, and those that are good will be resigned or tagged. This FA class is really weak and the spike in the cap over the last few years means its going to be even weaker than it is now come the offseason.

Resign Martin on a 1-year deal if he’ll take it. We know Martin will have a great year next year since he always has a great year every odd numbered year. Meanwhile use the picks to finally restock the defense – remember the Bucs went for quite a while with no defensive picks and signing big budget FA bust after bust. RB can’t be near the top of the to-do list, not with depth needed everywhere and with very little to pick from – the draft can’t and shouldn’t be used to try to fix the RB situation.

  132. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Rod Muncher
    Reference post above^^^^^
And that’s without ANY Wr or Lbs

  133. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Cook Is not the answer. Look gentlemen, the only top tier running backs in the league that are not perpetually injured, are big bodied power backs. Jamal Charles on any given day has the potential to be the most dynamic player in the league, but he never sees the field because his body can’t hold up. Legarette Blount has 17 touchdown and helps the Pats seemingly every season with huge late season games, Le’veon Bell balls out on a regular basis, before age caught up with them Marshawn Lynch and Adrian Peterson carried there teams to the postseason with varying degrees of success, Demarco Murray and Derrick Henry had an extremely average Titans team poised to win their division before MM went down with a broken leg.

Bucs fans especially should know what happens to small running backs… They simply cannot withstand the onslaught of physical punishment that NFL running backs endure. The only running back that we should be pining for is Leonard Fournette. This kid is primed to be an electrifying force, and provide the proverbial jumpstart our offense is desperate for.

As much as I would cherish being able to pick a dominant offensive line prospect in the 1st round, from the little bit of research and gametape I’ve watched on youtube from this years top O-line prospects, this year appears to be a weak crop.

Jason Licht has shown a willingness to trade up in the draft for a desired player, and In my honest to god opinion, Leonard Fournette would be worth our 1st and 3rd round pick, heck throw in Doug Martin or Charles Sims. I’m that confident of the game changing ability this kid showcases on film.

    Have a look for yourselves.

  134. Blake_bucsfan Says:

@ Rod Munch, Ezekial Elliot? Adrian Peterson?

  135. Pickgrin Says:

    @Cobraboy

That’s one hell of a list. No wonder its hard for these guys to keep up with every single substance they are not allowed to injest…

  136. NFLNut Says:

You really want to trade the #1 AND #3 pick to grab Fournette when you could most likely draft DOnta Foreman with just a 2nd round pick?

Foreman is 24 pounds heavier than Forunette and 15 months younger and is coming off a 2,000+ season on a team that had a terrible QB and the D was always geared to stop him … I don’t know … if I was a Bucs fan I wouldn’t be mad if the team used a 2nd rounder on him …

  137. Jim Says:

A lot of salivating here, following Martin’s bust…

  138. USFBUC Says:

    FA and Draft Dream List

    WR – Gordon, Pryor
DL – Pierre Paul, Poe or Fairley
    CB – Johnson or Bouye

    Draft
    1 LB/S Peppers
2 RB Foreman by trading up
    3 TE Leggett
    4 WR Samuel

  139. VolBuc2 Says:

WOW!! STUPID! I feel no compassion for someone who takes drugs, especially with all the help that is our there.

  140. dkdubbnole Says:

Bucnut must not see what all Winston has to work with… Dude has one (1) receiver/tight end that was even drafted to throw to. Not to mention the horrid offensive line. I’m guessing you completely forgot about the debacle in Dallas where Winston had someone in his face immediately the entire second half of the game. When you are under duress the entire time and are still relatively new to the league, mistakes are going to be made along with a slew of turnovers

When Peyton Manning came to the NFL he struggled pretty bad too, but I am guessing you’ve simply chosen to ignore that. In his first 5 seasons, Manning threw 100 interceptions and had another 11 lost fumbles. Does that mean he was overrated and sucked too?

Winston will be just fine. People seem to forget he technically should still be a senior in college and was drafted the first overall pick because this team was hot garbage leading up to his arrival. Once this team has a better o-line and more weapons on offense, you will see more points and much better production.

It amazes me how many “fans” the Bucs have that hate Winston because he went to FSU. I didn’t hate Sapp, Testaverde, Winslow or currently James because they went to Miami. I didn’t hate Rhett, Culpepper, Anthony, Green or currently Hargreaves because they were Gators… I also don’t hate any players that attended other college football powerhouses that are now Buccaneers. Your college football hatred is causing you to wish ill will on your pro team and it is ridiculous.

  141. Mike Johnson Says:

Martin is a very good back peoples!! Our offensive line is the problem. They play well for a couple of games then seem to..dissapear the next 2. No consistency. Did you see how them Hogs from Dallas were blowing up our Offensive line? Did you truly note Dallas’s offensive line performance? That’s what we need to concentrate on. Getting some strong beef in here. As for taking away Martin’s salary, I don’t think that’s wise. Let the guy rehab and give him another shot behind a good O line. Stop being impatient and thinking the grass is greener when its..cheaper!!
